Dionne Warwick - best live vocals (1967 to 2016)

  • From the 1960s through to 2016, some highlights of Dionne's live performances - one of the most under-rated popular singers I can think of, but an absolute powerhouse when she wanted to be.
    The performances are in chronological order, and each is dated.

      She damaged her own legacy tying herself to the now defunct Psychic Friends network. Her appearace on Celebrity Apprentice didn't help. In addition, her tendency over the past couple of decades to make public appearances dressed like a bag lady are unfortunate.

      Where’s her Kennedy Center Honors, way way overdue 😤 A career spanning 60 years and not been recognised yet - a damn shame!!!! Someone needs to spearhead the campaign for Ms Warwick to be given her Honors whilst she is still with us. I mean she should be a top priority and as much as I love Cool J and co. , Ms Warwick should have been awarded ages ago, before the recent recipients.

      I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO SPEAK ENGLISH THEN, BUT WHEN I HEARD THE RANGE OF HER VOICE (SOFT OR SOMETIMES POWERFUL), HER WAY TO DELIVER THE NOTES AND THROUGH HER "FEELING", SHE COULD TOUCH MY SOUL...

      There are some records in which she really showed her range, even in the early Scepter years. Records like "I Cry Alone", "There's Always Something There to Remind Me", "You're My World", "You're Gonna Hear From Me", "What's Good About Goodbye", her recording of "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man", "Where Would I Go", as well as recordings from "The Magic of Believing", the LP she did with The Drinkard Singers.. Her singles tended to be more Adult Contemporary, but her albums always contained showcase numbers.

They have done their time and altho they may not have the same tunes, like before, it dont matter, cuz like every employment....we all retire one day! So appreciate the impact they once made and be gateful for these legends!

      Burt wanted someone who will interpret his music the way it is. And they won the lottery finding dionne. Its really the best, because Bacharach melodies are perfect as is.

    Whitney was on record saying she listened to a LOT of Dionne, Chaka and her mom. Those were her main influences and in a way we have to credit Dionne as much as Cissy for the vocalist that Whitney became. Whitney borrowed a lot of of mid register and belts from Dionne and that crystal clear head voice from her mom.

    Hey people. All this powerhouses Whitney, Cece winans, Dionne warwick, Deedee warwick were very influenced by Cissy houston. Have you ever listened to her? She's is definetly what a powerhouse singer must be.

      Dionne style is very different from Cissy. Let's not forget Dionne was a musical director.

    • @JustJJr
      @JustJJr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cissy is very different from Dionne. Cissy was was way more heady and operatically shrill where Dionne had a mid chest grounding to her tone. As far as Cece Winans that’s all her mother Mom Winans. She sounds so much like her own mother not Whitney’s.

    She was not underrated. she got to go places where other black women hadn't been. she is just modest and she does not talk about it like her other partners in the business.The 70's really put a hurting on her also because she just could not score a hit to save her ass for about 10 years. But by the late 79 she was back! She really is amazing and is a real legend.
