Just did this but when removing the rod [yes marked it] the section that shifts through the bush had worn away the electroplating [the rod is steal plated with hard nickle for durability and then cadmium for corrosion protection. Ideally we should have replaced the rod but now you have a dismantled gear shift, a car on stands in the yard, live far from a major city and need the car to run. So even with a new bush there was still 2mm of play on the shaft. Enough to still cause problems. After a visit to our local hardware and an "indaba of men" our McGyver move was to find some shrink tube the right size that is a kind of hard plastic and shrink that over the worn area. Yah I know water etc, etc, and it will probably also wear, but it worked and seem it will be good enough for some time. Easy enough to keep an eye on if you enjoy sliding under a car with the cellphone light on. Gear shift is nice and positive again and next visit to the city and the scapyard we will have to remember to take a look.

i once did this one. i had a feeling it did not go in to second gear far enough i asked my dad to help half way in to the job first thing he did was grab it and push the linkage out was a real pain to find the correct gear i did not mark it so before removing the lolipop ant the linkage hes holding marl where it sat so u can put ti where it was. mine i put back it was in 3 and 4 not in 1 and 2 so when i shifted in reverse it was in 1 real pain

It should be connected by a 13mm nut once that is out the lollipop might be held on tightly but just wiggle it around and it will eventually come out

@@supermancustoms I've tried wiggling it with no success... I'm currently driving without the nut in hope that the lollipop will loosen but it's been a week now and it's still tight
