Ok 👍 I’m proud of this!
Our washer was moldy and gross. Many suggested tearing apart the machine and soaking the rubber liner. Buying expensive CLR and scrubbing.
I simply soaked paper towels in bleach - packed liner and layered wet paper towels over mold. I let it sit for 24 hours.
    It worked perfectly.

Andrea, here is another good tip. When you pull the Landry detergent tray out, look at inside with a flash light at the ceiling of the tray slot and you will find tons of mold and mildew in there. Took me about 2 hours to clean it when I first discovered it. Nobody ever bothers to look at the ceiling they normally just look down the detergent reservoir well.

You can push down on the middle plastic part of the detergent drawer to get that to come out then you can clean the inside of it in the top and soak the drawer and soapy hot water in the sink

I agree! I've never had a front loader before, but the new home we bought has one (and no space for a top loader). Had I known the problems it would cause, I would have reconsidered. We now have remodeling plans, including moving the washer to the basement where we can fit top loaders!!

I always leave my door & liquid/softner compartment ajar too & it definitely works!! …I also have 2 indoor cats & a man who has a greasy job so once every couple of weeks or so, I throw 1 old towel in there, I put a 100% natural “floor cleaner” (basically it’s just Eucalyptus Oil, purified water & a plant based suctifant) into the liquid compartment & prewash compartment (my machines manual taught me this) & then I run a full cycle WITH prewash & extra rinse on the hottest setting (mine goes to 90°C) & the inside, pipes ect clean themselves!! Throwing a old towel in there helps a lot cause the towel material kind of scrubs the inside of the barrel (mines a front loader BTW), plus although my manual says you can do it without a towel, personally I always grew up being told if you run a machine with absolutely nothing in it, it’s no good for the machine. Unsure if that’s true these days but the towel really helps scrub that barrel clean & the Eucalyptus based natural floor cleaner along with it being on the hottest setting (much more gentle but more effective than bleach in my experience, the brand I use is Earth for anyone interested), really just erases the fortnight’s worth of grease from uniforms & flushes any cat hair caught up through…
There’s also a “coin trap” you can pull out & clean. It’s behind that little circle cut out along the bottom front of most machines. Sometimes it’s hidden behind a long panel. Not only does it catch things that fall between the seals she’s showing in this video, but you’d be shook how much pet hair, human hair, threads, buttons & so forth get caught up in there too!!
That’s my 2 cents worth anyway & my positive experiences. I actually learned much of it from the manual. 1st machine I think I’ve ever read the manual of & it was full of bright ideas. I regret I didn’t know with previous machines. 😅😅

Modern day fabric softeners and weird soaps that aren’t free rinsing are the culprit. Most soaps back in the day were free rinsing, low potency on cleaning too.

I use Nellie's laundry soap, old school stuff.. Works very well.. great for hard water too.. recently unrelated tore down my front loader and was surprised how clean it was. No soap buildup or odd stuff on the inner or outer tub.. no smell of odd stuff. I run the tub cleaning mode about every 50 to 60 cycles (recommended 45 to 50)... my inner door seal is always clean too.. I don't do any cleaning of that.. but do leave open after use. That's all I do. (Nothing, not much) and my tear down shows to me the soap is not providing bi product problems and time requirements to maintain. 😁

If you just leave the doors open over night that alone will prevent the smell. Hubby didn't listen to me when we first got ours and the smell started. I cleaned it and we did this several more times before he believed me and left the stupid doors open. Now almost ten years later, our washer doesn't have a smell and we do a monthly bleach or vinegar cleaning to keep the build up down.

@AndreaJean : Be aware that using vinegar or any acidic solution (by itself) regularly breaks down metal and causes rust and eventual damage in the long term. Using baking soda does help to dilute any acidic solution.

I absolutely despise my front loading washing machine. It is difficult to keep that rubber gasket clean and it’s sloppy looking to keep the door open all the time to keep it dry inside. I think these machines should come with a warning, because that mold that SO easily grows in that gasket is awful and nasty looking. My machine works really well (after 11 years of use), but when I need to replace it, I will get a top loader.

She never said what kind of washer it was but I believe it's an LG. I just recently bought a used LG front load washer and dryer, I noticed inside the rubber boot was black and it was Staind into the rubber so the appliance guy I bought them from he replaced the rubber boot and water pump. My regular appliance guy came out to look at my fridge and noticed my LG washer and dryer front-load and he got excited, he said these are the best and that there's no belt that spins the washer so you never have a loose belt. Also there's a magnet in the door that lets the door stay cracked open where it looks like it's shut but it's not and it naturally dries out but it's good to take a paper towel and wipe the Rubber seal and to wipe the inside of the plastic door I love my washer it uses less detergent bleach and softener

I have a top loader and we're looking into getting a new washing machine because it is over 10 years old and it getting to the point where we shouldn't repair it we should just get a new one and it looks brand new and it doesn't smell. I never leave the top lid open because it's in my kitchen and I know my kids are going to slam their fingers in the door if it falls on them. The more and looking into a front loader the more work it seems to upkeep it when my top loader I just use a deep clraning kit every couple of months and I just wipe it down every couple loads.

I won’t blame that on the engineer I will blame that on not reading the owners manual and giving it to someone who only used top loaders prior.. She didn’t know and I didn’t know.. now we do and the problem isn’t a problem anymore..

I think the problem is that is a design flaw. I had a Kenmore in my previous home and in the rental suite. No problem with either one. Some one needs to go back to the drafting table. I follow this practice in my current home but feel it should be unnecessary

Be very careful of the vinegar!
It makes the plastics brittle. Next thing you have a cracked drain hose or something else.

My issue with my front loader washing machine is the soap and fabric dispenser. I pulled the dispenser out and it was covered in mold, top and bottom. What’s bad is with mine I can’t get my hand in the very back where most of the mold accumulates. Also inside the top has so many holes where the water comes through the mold gets inside and I can’t get them completely clean. This is my first front loader and does this happen to anyone else or did I get a lemon? Any ideas on how to remove the mold?

    • @felichiah5845
      @felichiah5845 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

No I have heard a lot of people with front load washers with detergent dispenser gets moldy if you can't fit your hand in there I would probably just try to spray it with a spray bottle with them vinegar. I use a denture brush to clean because they usually have two sides of bristles one like a toothbrush and then one on the top of it more angled out so that would help get the mold. But you want to leave your detergent drawer open after every load and pull it out and wipe it and let air flow get to it.

A little care is not a big deal for front load washing machine as you get your laundry treated gently and cleaned much batter with these than top lodders.

My husband left the door closed and we got mold on the seal. I’ve tried everything to clean the mold: baking soda, vinegar, bleach. Nothing works. Any other ideas? It’s like the mold is embedded in the seal....I’ve thought about replacing the seal all together.

@@naturalist10000 both actually. Wipe down the outside and inside of the seal. Let sit for a minute then wipe down with a wet towel using water only. Make sure you clean the little whole in the seal and behind it...
After this add a half a cup of clr in the detergent tray and use the hottest cycle you have on the machine... Run it and the leave the door open when it's done.
I do this 2x/year. No smell in my washing machine. No mold either.
One more thing there is a drainage filter that is accessible via a smaller flap on the front of the machine below the large door. Make sure to drain and clean that as well.
