I absolutely use white vinegar and baking soda for a deep clean of my washing machine. I even use it in a regular load to freshen up my day-to-day laundry and i use it for fabric softener instead of store-bought fabric softener and sheets which are full of chemicals. Make sure not to overdo it with this ingredient because it can also damaged your machine by also stripping the belt that holds the drum as well as many other items in your machine. So less is more when it comes to cleaning your machine as well as cleaning your laundry. Too much of a good thing can break down your washing machine as well as you dryer. Each washing machine as well as dryer has a recommended way of cleaning it as well as what type of laundry detergent and fabric softener that you can actually use. Personally i use one to two tablespoons of liquid laundry detergent . And a wooly ball with some pure essential oil for my dryer instead of dryer sheets. Just started to do these just now since my 2023 new washing machine and dryer were constantly breaking down. Never used too much laundry detergent. Never use fabric softener and fabric sheets. Never overload your laundry machine or dryer. Never overdo it with the white vinegar and the baking soda. Hopefully I will not need to repair my washing machine and dryer anytime soon.
The ONLY true way to get rid of the smell is to remove the top cover that fits over both the inner and outer tub, where you will find the undisolved fabric softener and muck that's come off of your clothes, caked up around the top of the outer tub. You need to scrub that crap off of the outer tub. You can throw bleach and vinegar/baking soda at it all you like but you will never get rid of the smell. Washer tablets come close because of the mixture of citric acid and other chemicals but those can only do so much. You also need to leave your washer lids and doors open after each wash so that moisture can evaporate. You're welcome...
Vinegar and Baking soda also works for sinks, coffee pots and tubs. You can never have enough of either. Just remember 50/50 mixture. Powder than Liquid. Hot water rinses help out too
So many people use baking soda and vinegar. The issue I have with this is that it doesn't make a cleaner. When you combine them the make salt water and carbon dioxide. You actually neutralize each chemical when you out them together. It would make more sense to me to use them one at a time. The reaction between baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and vinegar (acetic acid) can be represented as follows: ``` NaHCO3 + CH3COOH -> NaCH3COO + H2O + CO2 ``` This equation shows that baking soda and acetic acid (vinegar) react to form sodium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide. thanks for this video - i have a whirlpool - no agitator top loader and the lid locks once it starts filling - i’m hoping i can add the 2 cups of vinegar and then fill with hot water ????
Good question, I would try to use a magnet possibly to keep the lid open until you have water in the tub then mix vinegar. It won’t work as well otherwise. The magnet would just sit on the contact point then you can remove it after putting in the vinegar
So my top load washer keeps on having brown stuff come up whenever I do a wash. I have removed the pulsator from the bottom and cleaned the brown stuff as much as I can. I have also done a tub clean of the washing machine with affresh washing machine cleaner 3 straight times and there's still brown stuff that is coming up. I haven't tried a white vinegar solution yet, but I'm not sure how to do that. Do you know anything else that I could do?
It seems like a little bit less might be coming out each time I did it, but it's really hard to tell and it could be my mind giving me false hope haha. My washer is the LG top load washer. I'm not sure how old it is. Not sure if that helps. th-cam.com/video/zGielFT8jx8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=howdumb7. It's almost identical to the link here.@@BStride
@@Ninkira Yes I did. I think I just kept on running a tub clean with white vinegar and turn it to the hottest setting until it there was no more brown stuff coming back.
Just going to leave this here in case someone finds it useful one day: in our case, it turned out that the drainage tube was pushed too far into the waste pipe and the used water was unable to drain out of the washing machine as a result. All our clothes stank, even when prewashed, using double the detergent and fabric softener. We tried everything including all kinds of cleaning, with vinegar, baking soda, washing towels at 90º, the lot and nothing helped, but this did.
Hey don’t think there is one on models after 2001, if 1995 -2000 there would be two fine mesh filters under the agitator on GE at least products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=17426
Yes, I suppose you could. When I was researching this, it was mostly recommended to do them separately to get the abrasive properties from the baking soda first then cleaning properties from the vinegar in a standalone wash.
I did this. I threw in some dirty laundry as well. Some old pillow cases that weren't getting completely clean. I think it may work on old t shirts as well. It really got into the fabric. It was cotton though and I would not swear that would not cause some fading. On some fabrics. Though mine came out just fine. I now do a soak with vinegar on some things. I think the baking soda takes a couple cycles to get out of the fabric.
Hey, I would try the vinegar wash like in the video. Why do you think smells so bad? Have you removed the auger and cleaned under that and cleaned the fabric softener cup?
Why? This worked 100%, mine smelled like mold. My utility door always open and whole house smelled mold. Closed utility door for 2 days by accident. When I opened door, smell was overwhelming!! After doing this video..room AND house now smell normal. All this time thought it was house and it was the washing machine! 😂

True, good point
Thank you! Inexpensive products! appreciated advice😊
Glad the info helps! :)
Thank you for this video. I got me my first washer last year when I got my first apartment and my washer is starting to get an odor to it lol
Hope this helps

@@BStridethank you I have the same issue. ❤
Can you use cleaning vinegar instead?
I would imagine so just make sure it’s all washed out after

No problem
This man has the SAME EXACT washing machine I got lol
Me too, I love it when that happens. Probably doesn't matter in this case, but it doesn't hurt either.
Does anyone happen to know if Kenmore top loading washer has a filter? If so do you know where it might be? 😊
I think for kenmore it would be under the agitator or within it- if it does have one. Newer models may not have one.
Mine does not have one
Thanks a lot !!
No problem :)
Will this work with cold water? I dont have my hot water hooked up
Yes it should work, just would work bit better with warm water
What can I add or right? You are perfect looking wise all I could say is thanks you allowed us to witness your beauty thanks again and stay well
Hope the video helped!
So after cleaning with baking soda, i need follow with the vinegar? Do these 2 steps go together?
You don’t have to do both steps but you can. You can do just one or both
The lid locks when machine starts. How do I bypass the lock??
Could try to place a magnet on top of the lid lock switch before running between lid and basin just during clean mode before putting in cleaner
I don’t know where to find the filter on my top load washer

Had both types. Never even HEARD of a washer filter. Lol
Can both vinegar and baking soda be used simultaneously?
Yes, I suppose you could. When I was researching this, it was mostly recommended to do them separately to get the abrasive properties from the baking soda first then cleaning properties from the vinegar in a standalone wash.

@@michaelweston1042 good to know, how long (as a practice) have you been soaking your clothes with the vinegar?
@@BStride A couple years, occasionally I do this. I use things till they are unusable. For things I like anyway.

Leave the door open so water inside tub evaporates no smell.
Yes, good tip 👍🏻
The tub basin’s not the problem. It’s the water lines in the back of the machine.
Yeah I can see this as well, water lines generally aren’t replaced many times until they fail
My washing machine smells REAL bad, like rotten eggs. I don't have baking soda, can i use something ekse like dish detergent?
Hey, I would try the vinegar wash like in the video. Why do you think smells so bad? Have you removed the auger and cleaned under that and cleaned the fabric softener cup?
Use one CASCADE dishwasher pod in your machine on the "clean washer" cycle if you have one else use your longest, hottest cycle with the most water.
Are you saying I can take a rag, wet it with some vinegar water and wipe the inside of the tub? What a novel idea.
Sure May as well while you have it there
I only had apple cider vinegar I hope I didn’t ruin my he machine
That should be fine
Stop with "Super". What does it mean? Not all washers have that! Most don't!
Same as xtra large size load
Pretty "wordy" but thanks for posting the info.
Thanks for the feedback
i am going to "GO AHEAD" and vote thumbs down!
