  • Power outages are a real thing during hatching season. We had out power go out four times in one week thanks to some wild storms. Here's what you can do to hopefully keep your eggs incubating and keep a good hatch.
    I always forget stuff in the videos so check out the blog post too: roughandtumblefarmhouse.com/w...
    Once you've hatched your chicks if you need a refresher on how to care for chicks check out this other video of mine on chick care basics: • How to Care for Chicks

    oh good lord ! ...first response is to "keep those babies warm" ! we really appreciate how you mentor other folks by sharing your "mistakes" (learning moments). Thanks again

    Our incubator was plugged into a smart plug. Alexa thought nobody was in the room, so it decided to turn it off in the middle of the night (Alexa's hunch was not set up, but it kicked in automatically). Thank you for your informative video!!

    Hi there! Here in Southern Oklahoma and a nasty thunderstorm caused our power to go out. Thank you so much for your video filled with tips. God bless and take care!

    If you are incubating eggs on a regular basis and a failed hatch would set you back, I would recommend investing in an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). This is a type of power strip that has built in batteries that automatically switches to battery power and sounds off an alarm so you can appropriately respond.

      Ooooh I hadn’t heard of one of those but I am definitely going to look into it. Thank you!

      Or you can buy a 12 volt 2amp battery supply since most of the incubator works at 12 v.

    Update: Our lights were out for a little over 4 hours. House temp was probably low to mid-60s. Out of 13 fertile eggs, 12 have hatched healthy baby chicks.
    Original: I just lost power. It's my 1st time incubating. We're at day 11, and I immediately put a towel around them. Luckily, right after that, I found this and took it off. So hopefully everything works out!

    Please respond if after plugging again when can I manually rotate eggs, and when to candle. Cover was on with no power for 5 hrs. They are on 7th day of incubation
    Thank you

    Omg i can breathe again. Power company decided that they will power outage me the 12.05 for a couple of hours and my babies are nearly ready to hatch (15.05) so i have been so worried about them. Curse the company that does have to do maintenance in the yearly hatching time!

    How do you set the timer to the time when the power goes out, so if it goes out on day 14 but comes back on in 20 minutes. How do u put the timer back to 14 days? It automatically resets to 21 days...that will mess up the turning schedule . So is there a way to plug in and start it at 14days or whatever days are left?

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
      @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the same incubator I do, this has instructions for how to change the days. See step 4. media.tractorsupply.com/is/content/TractorSupplyCompany/tsc/product/1/29/21/33/1292133_Man1.pdf

    My power flickered and I think it affected the countdown on the machine. It’s got me second guessing because I didn’t write it down and was totally dependent on that countdown. It days I’m three days till hatch-give or take a few days if it did take away time. Think that’s a huge deal to up the humidity if it is a day or two off?

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
      @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t think it would be make or break right there at the end. Especially if you have been consistent most of the time. I believe I’m the humidity being too LOW would be more of an issue as then it can dry out and make things harder for them to break out of.

      Do you mean it took longer than what it said for the eggs to hatch?
      Or did the incubator add days to what you thought it was set to?

    The power went off in my incubator while I was asleep. I think it was off for 2 to 3 hours, so I just turned it back on as soon as I saw it out. Will the eggs be okay? They are around six days into incubation.😮

      I wouldn’t worry too much about such a short window, especially with them being in their first week.

    I have an ac adapter I can use in my car for my incubator. 🤔

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
      @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had read about that as an option! I think it's great for shorter term outages but I think it might be trickier if you have it out for a long time. It would be a bummer to run your car for so long.

      I did the same thing so don’t feel bad! I mean it seems to make sense! The other reason aside from oxygen I forgot to mention, is that if you only keep them kind of warm they continue to develop but may develop funky.
