I third this. Or at least show some of the favorite cards you own, whether it is because of the card itself, something about it that is customized, some rare promo or version.
jqxok Absolutely agree with this. The cards seen thus far as "examples" within the sleeves have been awesome. Seeing a full array of favorites, hard to finds, etc would be awesome. Surely the TCC has great things lying around!
Just a suggestion: at the end of each review video, especially for card sleeves (where everyone wants pretty much the same thing) could you show the best card sleeves/ whatever other product that you have reviewed, so that people like me do not have to look through all your other videos on the subject, and can find out what to buy easily. I realise this is harder with things like deck boxes, where there are a huge range of designs and prices, but for card sleeves it would be really helpful. Thanks!
He actually made a video of the best product he has come across and the accessories he recommends. I highly suggest that you go watch the video because it has every best accessory from TCC compiled, from play mats, to sleeves, to deck boxes. Hope this helps! :)
Thank you so much for doing all of these review videos. I find them invaluable, and they've really helped me sort out the gems from the crap, switch to double sleeving, and better invest my money in my gaming supplies.
Just like you said, Dragon Shield sleeves are the best! I enjoy shuffling my new red deck with a commander of the Dragonlord Kolaghan. It feels really nice, and the dark red is very appealing. Thank you for your advice!
Some time around mid-2000's I bought Ultra Pro sleeves that were made in Japan. It actually says on the packaging, Ultra Pro and Made in Japan. I just noticed it recently when I was comparing card sleeves, after I watched your videos. One obvious difference my sleeves has is that there is no Ultra Pro Seal on the front portion. And the sleeve size is longer than 66mm x 91mm. I've tried the stretch test on just one of the sleeve and it passed. However the shuffle feel is much like the KMC Supers. Maybe you can feature Ultra Pro sleeves from Japan sometime. Thank you, Professor.
It's crazy, Ultra Pro used to be awesome. I have textured back Ultra Pro Sleeves from the late 90's and early 00s that I still use today and they are in great shape. New Ultra Pro Sleeves break quickly and only last a few weeks with heavy play.
A little more of what I've noticed with my Ultimate Guard sleeves; After a while they get dirty very easily, even if kept in a deckbox most of the time and used about twice a week. Apart from that, I think a very important factor with grading these is the amount of sleeves you're getting. At the store where I'm buying mtg products along with sleeves, ultimate guards are about a whole 1€ cheaper than ultra pro sleeves, while containing 80 card sleeves in a single pack. Ultra pro, on the other hand, along with some other manufacturers contain 50 sleeves per pack, which practically forces you to buy 2 packs even for a deck without sideboard. So basically in the end I'd pay more than twice more for ultra pro than for ultimate guard just to get 20 extra sleeves for reserve/whatever.
Thank you for this, I am planning on purchasing the Legendary sleeves from Legion to sleeve the 62 (or 124) Transforming cards from the World War Hulk expansion so I could keep them together & just switch which one is displayed, instead of keeping the alternate cards separate and switching them with the regular cards when the Transform condition is met.
I'm a little confused by the ultimate guard double mattes. My first pack, black, were just amazing. I was blown away, currently my standard showdown deck is double sleeved with kmcs inners. Then I went back and bought a pack of some pretty turquoise. Can't double sleeve at all. Still, I have them, and they shuffle will really well so theyre my drafting sleeves now.
I really would like to see a review from you on the new ultra-pro matte sleeves. I know they come in aqua and I believe they come in 2 other colors but can't be sure. I have no idea how or why but these new ones are super great, I used them on my standard deck and had it double sleeved and have yet to break one. They shuffle easier, and seem much less cheap too.
I have been playing magic since about 1994. I have tried most of the brands that have been available in Europe. I ended up on KMC Mat series from Japan.
I've been playing for almost a year, and the first sleeves I ever used were ultra pro matte sleeves. I will admit, I am still using them, solely because I haveexperience with them and know they are decent. I may consider eventually trying some of the turqoise dragon shields(I heard that they are printed flat rather than curled, but just the turquoise ones), or maybe kmc hyper mats, but for now I'll just stick with what I know. Your reviews do help me tremendously though, because when I do de ide to use different sleeves, i'll know exactly which ones to use.
The background music for the ultimate guard sleeves was slightly disorienting as I've been trained over the course of many of your set reviews to hear that music and connect it to a very positive, high quality product. Awesome review as always though! Keep em up, I love watching them.
My Ultra Pro metallic gold sleeves (used for my favorite deck) have an amazing shuffle feel in my opinion and are also the only ultra pro sleeves I've owned that haven't split on me yet.
I have a packet of these clear ultra pro sleeves and 1 white ultra pro sleeves, the clear ones would not split at all even with all my might trying to split them it would not budge, the white sleeve however broke within a second of me trying to rip it. Honestly ultra pro has some great and some bad sleeves.
So I've been using the Legion Teal Double Mattes for 3 months and after the first month, the corners became bent and seriously hindered mash shuffling, I recommend using KMC or Dragon Shield instead.
Any plans to review the Ultimate Guard inner sleeves with the resealable flap? I'm really curious if those prevent air bubbles and if they add too much thickness to a deck.
Couple suggestions: KMC metallic and other varieties, and also a video (or image at the end of videos) to compare grades side-by-side between sleeves reviewed in the first batch vs third batch (all of the batches, really) would be great. Or a "best of" when you think there are enough for a best-of (and worst-of) videos would be super. In the meantime, KMC HyperMat for me, 2 weeks (packaged separately??) of draft for $10? Sure thing. After that, the 80 go onto a new 75 to test!
Thank you very much for the video! The information helped me decide which sleeves to buy for my new deck as I was at the shop trying to figure out which ones to get. Thank you very much!
If you're looking for card sleeves with art. May I suggest Bushiroad or Broccoli. They're made in japan so it can be quite a bit expensive to buy but they're nice if you like anime art and they seem to be pretty good quality as well. Though I suggest using KMC character sleeve guard if you plan on using them.
Any chance of a page with images and descriptions of reviews on sleeves/boxes/mats with your grades beside them for easy reference. I love your impartial reviews and only wish there was a faster way to find your A grade reviews.
It would be really helpful, since you have so many videos on card sleeves and deck boxes, if there was a list somewhere we could access that has them listed in grade order with maybe a short sentence blurb about them
Personally I found that the Ultimate Guard matte sleeves are tougher than the regular sleeves. I found that when shuffling the regular UG sleeves sometimes the top corners would catch and split. The matte sleeves however, no problem at all!
I wonder what happened to ultra pro card sleeves. I bought there basic clear sleeves back in '96 I believe and it's hard to rip them like you do with the stretch test.
You should review the new dragon shield matte sleeves they are by far the best sleeves I've played with on the market my previous favorite was kmc hyper matte's that is until after some time of playing I noticed that the cards would work they're way up to the top of the sleeves...but I've been using the new dragon shield matte sleeves double sleeved on my modern deck and I play every week with it and have the best feel, shuffle and durability thus far
+Real Bagels Have Curves Yeah but they're all strong enough for regular use. They aren't designed to be ripped open. You pull them open and they break...wow. Didn't see that coming.
I usually use too much force when shuffling so I'm always breaking my sleeves except the ones form Dragon Shield, no matter how force I put when mash shuffling them... they never break
I tried out the ultimate guard supreme matte; they had a good look and feel, but I did have your mentioned problem of not being able to get in an inner sleeved card(even though they are THEIR inner sleeves) without it sliding up; just such a tight fit. Too bad. edit: I will say after some use with them for one of my duel deck packs that as far as single sleeving goes the big names don't have much more to offer over them; they are a nice tight fit, have a good feel, shuffle well and better transparency than ultra pro without more glare. Great for the price, at the very least, if single sleeving.
Those videos about sleeves are awesome. I think you could put in the description the order of all brands you tried, it would be even better to know the good ones and in which video we could find it :) tks for the videos!
minihali Well i'm pretty sure you take good care of your cards then (unlike most people where i'm at). A lot of people do not care about where they play, hence why Dragonshield's glossy sleeves get sticky quickly for the majority of casual players.
TCC, you always talk about the life-time of sleeves. In my experience, the reason I'm buying a new set of sleeves is because the old ones get dirty and look bad (Ultra Pros can warp at the top of the sleeve). Does, for example, KMC Hyper Mat somehow stay clean and good looking, or do you have to clean them with something?
Whoa. I saw the preview image for the video and now I want sleeves that have two color backs. That way you can fix a card flipped upside down very easily. They'd probably break easily though. Question: Do you have a list of all your sleeve ratings?
So I can double sleeve my cards with the Ultra Pro Deck protecter cards and the KMC Perfect Fit sleeves? Is that right? And I assume the Ultra Pro's will be the outer layer then?
Whenever you make a review video, it would be nice if at the end of the video you would include which product you give the best grade to, even if it wasn't one of the products that you reviewed in the video.
You have expressed your disinterest in Eggs, but what about doing a deck tech for April first explaining how the deck works, and why it's the greatest deck in the format! :D
While this is off topic on this video about sleeves I have a question: Hey Professor, what do you think should I put a Xenagos into the mono red aggro deck that u made? If not tell me what would be another good thing to trade my Hero of Iroas for? Would a Xenagos Be good in this deck or maybe you can make a Green Red Budget? Please let me know. I know you hate seeded boosters as much as I hate them but I got Hero of Iroas fron a FNM one of the rewards was a seeded booster and I got Hero of Iroas. Ty for your attention. :D
I don't double sleeve my cards the normal way. I just put them in their Yugioh sized sleeves then put them in standard sized sleeves. I don't know if this bad for cards in any way, but it does end up looking cool. My ABC deck is in a orange inner sleeve with a matte blue outer sleeve.
Just watched a couple of your videos...great work! Do you happen to have a website or some such where you have a current listing grade of all the sleeves/binders/boxes etc. with grades towards you criteria? Just to be able to compare them all easily at a glance. I find it difficult sometimes to remember which ones to search for online without having to come back to the videos and recheck them. Thanks, and keep up the awesome work.
Always enjoy watching your product test videos. Would be great if you could also evaluate the perfect fit sleeves by Ultimate Guard because the KMC perfect size are pretty hard to get for me.
where I buy (capes) of the deck? You know plastic or come together in saites that u had placed? !!! Where u bought this deck gives me please Emoticon smile !!!
Greetings Professor I would like to know which clear sleeves you think are the best for both sleeving and double sleeving. I recently purchased a newly translated deck-building card game called "Barba*Rossa" which have cards that are the same size as magic cards. I have double sleeved them all with kmc's perfect size and ultimate guard clear sleeves. I do need to test them out, but this combination seems to be allright.
Hey professor! Have you considered HCD supplies? I got a playmat from them and I'm planning to get some sleeves from them. The playmat is so-so but I dunno about the sleeves yet.
Wenneke van der Veen Yeah, I used to but I've been having a lot of debate with people over the proper prices to list. I'm actually working on a kind of formal outline for how I list prices that I will apply equally to all videos, but I kind of want to talk with viewers about it in an upcoming video. In the meantime, I omitted them for this video.
On the Ultra Pro Gold Metallic sleeves, would they be much better if I put them in clear KMC Matte sleeves? I love the gold look, but I don't want them breaking.
Great video, I loved it, I also found some sleeves that you haven't reviewed yet, and I was wondering if you could evaluate their quality in the future. These are the sleeves: MTL Card Sleeves: Size 63,5x88 500 PCS for MTG, LCG, Thunderstone, Mage Wars ...
Glossy Metallic sleeves also tend to be reflective like mirrors, making their tournament legality questionable at best. At worst they are illegal or, if you are unaware, reveal information about your cards to your opponent when drawing cards or shuffling.
Hey Professor, very good review (as always), but after 8 videos of sleeve reviews how are your thoughts about comparing the best sleeves of each video? You just take the sleeve that recieved the best grade in each of the 8 videos and then compare them against each other, so we know, which are the best of the best ;)
KMC came out with hyper mat purple. They are terrible. 7 of them split at the corners on the first night using them. Then the next day at pptq 9 more split. Nothing like my other hyper mats.
I don't really understand the importance of the split tests. I've bought probably every brand of sleeves and I have been sticking to the UltraPro Mattes for my smaller gaming cards such as Cardfight Vangaurd and Yu-Gi-Oh. They do not fair well when coming to the split tests but they have lasted for me quite long and I really enjoy the shuffle feel. But why do you try to destroy sleeves as if two Hulks were playing sleeved MtG on the Himalayan Mountains?
sleeves with strong welds are less likely to split the seams and should last longer. I have had to completely replace many illustrated ultra pro sets because a few seams split here and there. Knowing which brands have stronger seams will hopefully save me many tens of dollars.
A sleeve that can be torn apart with ease probably won't last long compared to one which cannot. It's not a test to see how easy it is to pull apart; it's to determine about how long the sleeves will last.
Hey professor, can you please do a review about kmc premium hyper matte sleeves? Massdrop is having a new drop of 6 of them, tell us what you think. Thanks!
Hello. Question. Is the green and gold dragon shield sleeves the only ones that have a glossy pearl look to them? The red is glossy red but not pearl looking like the green. Can someone tell me? Thanks!
I think at this point you' should really consider hosting a summary of all your reviewed sleeves somewhere (like a google doc spreadsheet). Digging through 8 videos to find the best option for my cube is a chore -_- (I think it says something about the quality of your reviews that I'm still going to do it though)
Could you once possibly make a video, where you show your collection ?
ohohoho yes that would be awesome!
YESSSSS
YEEESSSS!!!!!!
I third this. Or at least show some of the favorite cards you own, whether it is because of the card itself, something about it that is customized, some rare promo or version.

I do what I want.

These reviews are my favorite part of this channel. They are honest, and quite a pleasure to watch. Keep it up professor!
I wished I liked magic because I love this youtuber.
Nothing is stopping you brother! ;D
As a board game hobbyist myself, I agree.
1337FrUstraTiOn Ive got so many other board/card games going That i can't afford it. So i do play but like with the starter decks and stuff.
1337FrUstraTiOn So its not that i don't like (at least now) but its too expensive with my other hobbys that o already have.
Just a suggestion: at the end of each review video, especially for card sleeves (where everyone wants pretty much the same thing) could you show the best card sleeves/ whatever other product that you have reviewed, so that people like me do not have to look through all your other videos on the subject, and can find out what to buy easily. Miron Liu I know that, but it would be easier if I didn't have to search for that video, and that video may become out of date.
Legion sleeves is my new top rated sleeves, bought a bunch of them!

I like the tightness of the ultra pros. Means less dirt and air will get inside.
Finally a review on ultimate guard sleeves ! Keep up the good work, professor. Love your reviews :)
I'm a little confused by the ultimate guard double mattes. My first pack, black, were just amazing. I was blown away, currently my standard showdown deck is double sleeved with kmcs inners. Could you do a video on your collection your cards card sleeves plymats deck boxes everything and where do you find the room to put it all
I really would like to see a review from you on the new ultra-pro matte sleeves. I know they come in aqua and I believe they come in 2 other colors but can't be sure. Finally, Ultimate Guard sleeve review.

+Sadah clarbet That's very true. I find they're double mattes split whenever I shuffle. I love and hate them because of it. They're also super flimsy.
Steven Smith In the works!
Tolarian Community College Awesome!
Thanks for the info on the sleeves I use legions raven sleeves on all my decks.
I think the ultimate guard metalic sleeves are fine if you don't shuffle. I have them down for my extra deck.
Just in time for game day! Thanks professor!
I wonder what happened to ultra pro card sleeves. I bought there basic clear sleeves back in '96 I believe and it's hard to rip them like you do with the stretch test.
I've double sleeved with the illustrated legion sleeves. It was relatively hard, however.
I use the outer Character Guard sleeves anyway - thus really protecting the pretty sleeves as well as the cards!
Whats the point of the stretch test? I feel if somebody gets his cards into such a situation then there's something really wrong
where do u buy these
XD
it's to show the difference in strength on video.
Have you thought of reviewing oversleeves? They fit over they standard sleeves for a double or triple sleeve. I know ultra pro makes some.
Mrtfarrugia In the works! :)
I am interested in seeing your insight on the Adventure Time and DC Comics line of sleeves from Cryptozoic.
Can you do a video on the quality differences between different colors of Dragon Shields?
Richie Demo I'll look into it, but that's going to be hard because there's a lot of colors.
Those videos about sleeves are awesome. I think you could put in the description the order of all brands you tried, it would be even better to know the good ones and in which video we could find it :) tks for the videos!
I'll just stick to my dragonshield's
Honestly Dragon shields just feel really cheap and wear easily
Dominick Majors Yeah, they are tough, thick, and protect your cards well, but they get sticky easily since most of them have a glossy finish.
My sleeves aren't sticky, and I have played heavily with my deck for a few months now!
minihali Well i'm pretty sure you take good care of your cards then (unlike most people where i'm at). A lot of people do not care about where they play, hence why Dragonshield's glossy sleeves get sticky quickly for the majority of casual players.
Why thank you!
TCC, you always talk about the life-time of sleeves. Does, for example, KMC Hyper Mat somehow stay clean and good looking, or do you have to clean them with something?
Hi professor Would you consider doing a fun series where you take a handful of random cards from your collection and building a deck from them?
Proxy
Whoa. I saw the preview image for the video and now I want sleeves that have two color backs. That way you can fix a card flipped upside down very easily. They'd probably break easily though.
Question: Do you have a list of all your sleeve ratings?

Great review, very detailed and informative. Thank you!
On the Ultimate Guard Site are also available the MASTER SLEEVES. They seem to be the best of their line, are you going to review them ?
war pippud Eventually. ;)

I just love bright card sleeves!!
Could you possible make a budget green and black deck video? Just an idea :)
Professor, have you noticed any differences just by color? I think i did have that issue once
So out of all the sleeves you have reviewed, what would be the BEST sleeve out there for double sleeving?
He has said before that the kmc hyper mats are the best
could you please review the ultra pro: pro-matte sleeves? They seem better than the average ultra pros
I just love the Sand Color by Ultimate Guard! Why does nobody else do that color?
Greetings Professor
I would like to know which clear sleeves you think are the best for both sleeving and double sleeving. I recently purchased a newly translated deck-building card game called "Barba*Rossa" which have cards that are the same size as magic cards. I have double sleeved them all with kmc's perfect size and ultimate guard clear sleeves. I do need to test them out, but this combination seems to be allright.
Will you be reviewing the Dragon Shield Mattes when they come out?
Great video! Still sticking to KMC's.
I bought 100 Legion RTFC sleeves, and they fell apart on first shuffle. In fact, many fell split while sleeving!
I just got my legion deck box and sleeves today!
Hey professor! Have you considered HCD supplies? I got a playmat from them and I'm planning to get some sleeves from them. The playmat is so-so but I dunno about the sleeves yet.
Can you include the average prices of products in your review video's? It would make it so much easier for us too choose the right sleeves :)
In your next video could you take your camera to your card store and tell us what it's like at your card store?
Can you please tell me what to add in a Red-White Battalion deck?
Great video, I loved it, I also found some sleeves that you haven't reviewed yet, and I was wondering if you could evaluate their quality in the future. These are the sleeves: MTL Card Sleeves: Size 63,5x88 500 PCS for MTG, LCG, Thunderstone, Mage Wars ...
Glossy Metallic sleeves also tend to be reflective like mirrors, making their tournament legality questionable at best. At worst they are illegal or, if you are unaware, reveal information about your cards to your opponent when drawing cards or shuffling.
I'm glad there's someone on TH-cam to barbarously rip apart their sleeves because I'm sure as hell not going to do it with mine.
Could you review the channelfireball sleeves? I think they're made by legion but I haven't seen any reviews on them.
Please Help.
Will a double sleeved 60 card deck fit in a satin tower deck box??
Hey Professor, very good review (as always), but after 8 videos of sleeve reviews how are your thoughts about comparing the best sleeves of each video? You just take the sleeve that recieved the best grade in each of the 8 videos and then compare them against each other, so we know, which are the best of the best ;)
Would you mind doing a best of the best video? And were those decks you were sleeving? I like budget friendly casual decks. Mind doing dech techs?
can you please do the new MTGHQ sleeves?
KMC came out with hyper mat purple. They are terrible. 7 of them split at the corners on the first night using them. Then the next day at pptq 9 more split. Nothing like my other hyper mats.
Finally i found a video(this video) that have all the answers about sleeves that i had
Ultra pro cube box review!!
jam ham ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah
jam ham ...
Just spent eleven minutes confirming my love for Hyper Mats.
Are there any good sleeves with rounded edges on the market? I'd think that would improve shuffling by alot...
Hey professor, can you please do a review about kmc premium hyper matte sleeves? Massdrop is having a new drop of 6 of them, tell us what you think.
Thanks!
What about the Ultimate Guard Master Sleeves?
I like your new mat!
great stuff professor! keep em coming!!
Thank you for your reviews, keep them comming! :)
Why dont you try a review for website sleeves? Like starcity and channel fireball among others?
Is there any type of Sleeves I can use with my KMC Hyper Matt as outer layer? The KMC Perfect Fit perhaps??
KMC perfect fit are amazing with KMC Hypers from my experience
+isaiah tarver Thank u!
Hello. Question. Is the green and gold dragon shield sleeves the only ones that have a glossy pearl look to them? The red is glossy red but not pearl looking like the green. Can someone tell me? Thanks!
Ultimate guard master sleeves.... When?
André Fosstvedt Not soon. :(
Tolarian, where do you get all of your ultimate guard items?
I can't seem to find it anywhere.
What do you think about triple sleeving cards?
I think at this point you' should really consider hosting a summary of all your reviewed sleeves somewhere (like a google doc spreadsheet). Digging through 8 videos to find the best option for my cube is a chore -_-
(I think it says something about the quality of your reviews that I'm still going to do it though)
