Following the bracelet critique, Erebus has now adjusted both bracelet styles to fit a wider variety of wrists; these shouldn't be an issue for smaller arms moving forward! That's a brand that acts on feedback, folks! 👏
Yea the O-style that just tries to look like a Oyster bracelet from rolex and the J-style that looks like a Jubilee bracelet from rolex this brand is lazy and just copied other brand and don't even try to hide it lol
Jody! Any comments regarding Ben's point on the J-style bracelet on small wrists or that it lacks some fluidity against the end link? Great watch, I can't wait to get my black helix!
Insta-ordered the bone white and black helix Ascents after the debut video hit. Monstrous value here. In fact it totally resets the bar for all microbrands. The only complaint is purely atmospheric in the sense that the Origin and Ascent do not (yet?) reflect a brand identity for Erebus. They don't visually relate to one another whatsoever. But, we're still early in the game and what they do bring is Jody's extensive catalog of evaluations distilled into a single "best of all worlds" choice for value-seekers. The black dial is the new Sarb for the masses... it really does it all. So I guess in that sense I wanted to own it for the simple reason that the Ascent is the distillation of everything us TH-cam watch geeks have been nitpicking over for so many years and finally reached a new world-beating price/performance baseline created by one of our own. Baby Grand Seiko... with lume? Yes please! That bone white enamel really is gorgeous.
I'm excited to get my Ascent(s), I have a blue enamel and green fumé on order. I thought you were a little harsh on the design of the Origin... it wasn't supposed to be fancy or groundbreaking, it was supposed to be an ultra readable tool diver with excellent specs for the money, and it accomplished that handily. The hands and markers on it are a very original design and I quite like the geometry of them.
I didn't mind the Origin. I liked the tooly design and the variety of dial colors. The Ascent however is on a different level for a different type of guy. If the Origin was for the soldier's then this Ascent is the officers watch. None better than the other but made for different roles.
Great analogy with the soldier/officer's watch! I too do not mind Origin's design at all. In fact I love it more than a lot of the other microbrand offerings of a more modern dive watch design because it is just so sterile and tooly. I love the Pelagos' look so the Origin looks fantastic to me.
Glad my faith was not misplaced on this one! I passed on the Origin, only because I'm really not a dive-watch guy. But I "dove" into the pre-sale on this because on the surface it is exactly what I like. I picked the green helix, so it was nice to see some footage of it here. Fingers crossed that I'm still of the same mind as you after I receive it!
I think this watch looks absolutely beautiful. It's like a GS and an Aqua Terra was tag-teaming a discontinued 39mm OP on a balcony under a St. Tropez sunset, and all their love-juices just merged together around a Miyota movement. Definitely looks like incredible value for money. I'm debating white dial with a J bracelet. 🤩
Good honest look at the Ascent. I ordered the Green Helix version and great to see your shots of it and get your thoughts. I think it will sell well for them.
I went for the Malachite as I couldn't really see the green swirly as different (although I may have pulled the trigger too soon). I hope mine is unique though. . green is my favorite color anyway. As to your take on the Origin, I don't think your off base; it's like a thinner and lighter Helm Vanuatu - and for that I like it a lot!
Your honesty is appreciated...I too wanted to like the Origin, but it just didn't move me at all...but when I saw the Ascent, I was immediately captivated by the visuals and then was drawn in by the specs, and the price made me place an order. I can't wait for September to arrive! I ordered a black enamel with J-style bracelet, though I almost went for the green fumé...so many delicious dial options.
Damn it Ben, I had narrowed my choice down to either orange fume or white enamel but now you slid that purple sunburst back into the running. 😎 Great review and I agree fully - the Origin did nothing for me but this I really like as a responsible man's Aqua Terra alternative. I could afford an Omega but spending that much money for something that I would then just stress over damaging makes no sense when something looks this nice for less than 10% of the price.
Other random person says blue helix except I’m going with the white enamel. That’s literally the only criticism I have of the watch which is there are too many choices. I think it devalues it a little bit. But it’s brilliant otherwise.

Jody even stated the j style was better for small wrists due to the male end links on the o style 🙄 Glad I waited for your review before ordering as I wanted to see how it wears on a small wrist 👍🏻
Yep... all good points. This is totally up my alley. My main daily watches are in the similar ballpark. The Aqua Terra is currently probably my grail, though I don't wear my current premium watches enough to justify the cost. My San Martin AQ homage is probably my #1 for a true daily, followed by the Wise Adamascus, Cincinnati Cincinnatus and either the SWC Bunker or a Squale for more sporty times. I also really like the SARB033 and love most Grand Seikos. I ordered the white enamel on the J-style and honestly, I can see it potentially becoming my #1. My biggest criticism is the font used for the 'Ascent' logo and that is a VERY minor criticism.
I’ve preordered the purple fumé sunburst, on o style with black leather strap pack. My second choice which I still may add is the white enamel on j style :)
Hello Ben, I disagree with your point about the Origin being uninspired, but not theAscent. In fact, I think the opposite. The ascent looks like a mix of a Seiko SARB and an Omega Aqua Terra. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in fact, if it was all brushed I would have bought one.

These look pretty awesome. I think that white one would look amazing with a blue second hand. The green one would look even better with gold hands and indicee. That purple is amazing.
That sunburst purple - my goodness me! That's where my order's gone - I don't think I'll be disappointed!! The only question is whether to spend the extra and get the leather straps. It's probably worth adding them in for the versatility I think.
I have ordered this one on the J bracelet, that purple fume is magic. Looks good on black so I'm having a custom black suede strap with purple stitiching made - the black suede will really contrast and match the showiness of this watch.

Excellent review I am a fan of the erebus watches and own a few of both models (waiting on my ascents) but I appreciate your detailed review and frank honesty, and this is what made me subscribe. Keep up the great reviews.
I think Jody and Steven have really smashed this out of the park. 12 different dials with 2 different straps makes for an amazing 24 different watch combinations. A lot more than some major manufacturers offer and at far better prices. The Citizen owned Miyota 9015 with 8 bps , 28800 bph, will give this watch a touch of class, more of a sweeping second hand than ticking with an NH35 movement and like you stated is well worth the extra money. I never ordered the highly anticipated Origin model as it just didn’t do it for me. This though has driven me mad. All those dial choices, so many. I have changed my order 3 times already! Finally settling on the Black Enamel, a throw back to owning a SARB 033, which I rather stupidly sold for nothing, and also opting for the Blue Helix. I can see Jody and Steven selling this model in the thousands, which for a microbrand is a phenomenal testimony to their ideas and design. Bring on September!
Just received (DHL shipping ) brand new Ascent with Green Malachite Dial - great watch and looking like a pro , runs great and 100 meter water resistance is great bonus !
Given your honesty reviewing a colleague’s brand, I’d love to see your feedback on an Islander watch 🙏🏽been thinking of getting one for a while but hesitating until I see or feel it for myself…though i might settle for your analysis lol
Jodie and Steve have hit a home run here, for sure. My only recommendation to them would be to offer both bracelets as a separate optional purchase, thereby giving customers the ability to change the 'personality' of their watch from dress to GADA at a moment's notice (as well as additional $$ for them). Secondly, at least one TH-camr stated that the quick release spring bars kind of dig in while wearing the watch. Apart form that, this thing ROCKS! I fell in love with the case styling, those magnificent hands, the dial selection, and oh yeah, that lume!. Top notch. Thanks for the review, Ben much appreciated!
women too tbh. i really dislike watches aimed at women. often too small and impractical, meant more as jewellery and never with a mechanical option. i was pleased that the Origin actually fits my 5.5 inch wrist, so its a bit disappointing to hear the Ascent is too big for me.
Good honest review of a very nice watch. I would consider the white dial version if it were 40mm. As for your comments re the Origin, you are 100% correct, if anyone other than Jody produced it, it would of got roasted as it is a very ordinary looking watch albeit well specced. Anyway the Ascent looks the goods and well done to Jody and Steven.
Awesome dial shots! I wish you got more colors as I STILL haven't decided on a dial. For a true GADA, I want one of the enamel dials. Since I have black and blue, I am leaning the white enamel dial as like the black dial will truly go with anything...
I didn't know about the brand. For me, Justonemorewatch embodies the passion for finding watches that are fun. No snobbery, genuine passion. The watches shown here seem to check of everything watch enthousiasts actually love. amazing dial, solid links, automatic movement, sapphire crystal, classic size. He actually did it. Will order one asap.
That actually is an excellent idea. Jody could charge a little more for a Musou black dial and I will be getting one. AFAIK there are no Musou black dial watches that are in this form factor and case shape. The Venezianico Redentore has those crown guards that kind of take away the elegance simplicity of an ultra black dial.
Oh good--it won't fit my tiny wrist, so I do not have to be hugely tempted to buy this one! I like it way more than the first watch from them, for all the reasons you mentioned!
The watch looks good and all, I just don't think it really fills any need that the market is missing. Most of his viewers already have collections, and these just seem like alternatives to the same aliexpress brands he reviews. Wish he could get a little more wild with them and do something unique.
This looks like a mix of an omega aqua terra and a grand seiko. I like it, only the lugs are slightly too long and thecrown is a big bit, at least for the simple design of it.
The issue with malachite is that you could get unlucky and get a bland pattern. It's the equivalent of going for a Timascus case watch without a single star.
What all reviews fail to mention is that it's a Chinese manufactured watch. It looks nice, and has good finishing. The movement is made in China so goodness knows how long that will last? Isn't really just another Chinese watch? A good review, and I agree the crown is a tad over sized. The watch looks great and would be nice to have one, but to spend over $400 AU plus on a Chinese watch it's hard to justify.

Do you think the J-style bracelet will fit my 6.3" wrist? I ordered the watch and I'm not sure if I should cancel it or not.
Maybe shoot jomw an email and see if they're going to do anything about it. Usually there are some revisions before final production
Not sure if you checked the website but you can buy bracelets separately
@@Gary-li7ib I didn't see it, but I'll check again, thanks for your reply!
It is a great looking watch. Can’t wait for mine to arrive
I really like The Orange Fumé one
The mini logos on the helix are crazy!!😮
I don't get why us slim wrist men are so discriminated in the watch world. Especially since 6" to 6,5" wrist is a common size in men.
because you know what they say about small wrists
@@stephensamuel4674"Damn, those are some small wrists!"
Because more fat guys have a bigger mouth 🤣
Blame Sly Stallone and his Panerai in Daylight. The world had been in love with oversized watches for over 20 years because of that.
women too tbh. i really dislike watches aimed at women. often too small and impractical, meant more as jewellery and never with a mechanical option. i was pleased that the Origin actually fits my 5.5 inch wrist, so its a bit disappointing to hear the Ascent is too big for me.
These look great! So many dial choices. Thanks for the review!
I’m 5’8 and my wrist is 7.5. I don’t feel like my wrists are big but most watch enthusiasts have 6 to 6.5’ wrists.
That purple one is STUNNING.
I totally agree with you that the diver was not a home run but this new release from EB looks like a banger.
that blue helix... just WOW! what a nice looking watch!
In honour of the Erebus name they should have made one with the total black dial.
There is one with a black dial
That actually is an excellent idea. Jody could charge a little more for a Musou black dial and I will be getting one. AFAIK there are no Musou black dial watches that are in this form factor and case shape. The Venezianico Redentore has those crown guards that kind of take away the elegance simplicity of an ultra black dial.
Really great review Ben. Stunning videography and great description.
Just wish it had a display case back option, like some companies give.
Hey Ben do a solar watch list for under 300 but without the Bluetooth.
Vario got mentioned in the video and they're coming up with one soon.
i have opted for the purple fume with the oyster and jubilee bracelet. hoping its a as great as it appears
I have a set of EFFY jewelry that would look epic with the malachite dial.
The issue with malachite is that you could get unlucky and get a bland pattern. It's the equivalent of going for a Timascus case watch without a single star.
Definitely on my "top watches to buy when I have the money" list. Thanks for the excellent, thorough review - as usual.
I have to question your opinion on the erebus origin considering you are wearing a lyle & scott shirt.
I am now at a cross road, trying to decide between this on the black enamel and the CW C63 Sealander 39mm in black. 🤔
jesus christ I just fell in love with this watch! it reminds me of a grand seiko model
erebus ascent purple fume is sold out or no longer listed on their website... :(
I think they look great! I'll have to get one, thanks for the review!
i do like the purple fume dial, looks so clean
Do those pin-bar release lugs rake your wrist during wear? 2:57
Jody said in his video that you can feel them when the watch is moving but if it's still it should be fine.
Had numerous watches with quick release like this and never notice that
That Malachite one is gorgeous. Definitely hope it is not going to sell out soon so I can set some money aside to buy it
Great video Ben. Congrats on 200k subs. a great achievement. Ive just landed in York so see you later I guess.
Cheers Tony, yes see you very soon, glad you're coming tomorrow!
Thank you for having the bulk of your content to be visually about the watches. I wish you’d have been sent the orange fume.
Ordered my ascent, but have to wait till September to get it 😢
It was actualy Wise watches this reminded me of the most, the first release never grabbed me this one does.
agreed
These ones look much better. Your comments on the prior models was spot on.
Finishing is very impressive
Well, I was on the fence.... but this video helped convince me. Just ordered the purple. Thanks for contributing to my addiction. XD
Please review the Casio MTP-1183 in blue! I haven't seen a good review anywhere
Why doesn't Ben point this out when it's his favourite thing to do. Really disappointed with his review.
They used the san Martin factory so you decide if the design is worth the upcharge
That finishing 😮💨😮💨😮💨 beautiful
Looks descent, but too small for me. Rather it was 40mm-42mm. For that reason alone I prefer the Origin.
Babe, wake up. Ben's Watch Club uploaded.
