Is it possible that it represents some dream an astronomer has and he's waiting for Raj to point out that the shirt is wrong so he could suddenly AHA tell Raj that he needs to learn more about his own field of astronomy before making crude observations, which is in itself bad astronomy or in this case the dream represented on my shirt Bazzinga!

Never thought of it, but count them. I count twenty boxes. There are four apartments per floor. They live in the fourth and the stairs go up to at least a fifth floor. 4 apartments times five floors is twenty, hence the twenty mailboxes. Simple logic!
I don't understand how two physicists have to share an apartment but a waitress at the cheesecake factory can afford one by herself.

The kind of 'little misunderstanding' you have the size of a national conflict.
If I remember Galileo was the first scientist to offer proof that the sun is the center of our solar system (and thus the Earth orbits around it), rather than the Earth being the center of the universe.
The Pope was not pleased by this and ordered Galileo, under pain of being tried for heresy and execution, to recant his statement and published works. He did so, but only under duress, and was still imprisoned for the rest of his life and no longer allowed to formally publish.
This wasn’t Galileo’s only theories or contributions to science, he is often noted to be the father of physics, but his heliocentric theory and subsequent battle with the Pope and the Catholic Church, are the most famous points of his life.

cs_90 galileo was punished for saying that earth revolved around the sun not the other way around. So Sheldon said calling what happened between them a misunderstanding is like saying galileo and pope had a misunderstanding.. As in.. Misunderstanding does not even cut it, it's too small a word to describe what happened. Sheldon and his exaggerations.
Pope was God's representative on earth (or so some people believed) and thus he always right as he said whatever God's will. Pope said and believe that earth was the center of the universe which also included our solar system because human was created in the image of God (God look alike). In short, Pope (or all of christendom) believed and preach that the sun, the moon, the stars rotates/circles the earth.
Galileo published a book which stated that the earth circled the sun. The book came with evidences, reasons, and knowledge. The Pope was not happy (tough in fairness, Galileo didn't insinuate that christianity is idiot). So he threatened Galileo to changed the book and stating that indeed the earth is the center of the universe. Or, he will have Galileo drink a liquified/molten lead. In short, do as I say or die (well, Pope viewed himself as God's on earth).
As we all know well, the Pope as an institution still exist even today despite all the facts on history. People conciously 'swept it under the rug'.

I'm amazed that almost no one can get the history right. Even though Heliocentrism was banned by the Church in 1616, it was widely discussed and accepted as a scientific alternative to the geocentric system at the time, just not as an accurate representation of reality, as it would've theological implications (Earth revolving around the sun was scientifically proved to be correct in the 18th century actually). The book was written in the first place because he was encouraged by the POPE himself. The issue wasn't advocating heliocentrism, but how he mocked the Pope in the book.
More further, the book had mistakes like not considering that planets moves in ellipses rather than circles and had a completly wrong explanation to the cause of the tides, wich he used as his main argument for the Copernicus theory. Kepler's theory was already known by the time and since the greeks the cause of the tides were linked with the moon and not with Earth orbiting the Sun.

Galileo should've thanked the Church, espescially Cardinal Bellarmine, for being lenient on his ass. All the Church asked was to base his proof on any observable parallax shift in the stars, but he insisted moons were enough. He's lucky he only got tried, cause you couldn't get away with that pure theory shit in universities back then, you had to back that shit up. And the Church made sure you did.
