After I read Obesity Code, I eliminated sugar, added a sugar free protein shake per day with fruit, lots of veg and protein, enjoyed fats like butter, nuts, olives, avacado, oh and no pasta or rice, potatoes on special occasions 😊. I’ve lost 55lbs in 6 months. I don’t count calories at all I just ask myself “what’s the best choice right now”. Oh and I try not to eat at night. For me it’s a sustainable way to eat forever, not a short term diet. Thank you Dr Fung!
Update: I stalled for a long time. Months. Now I’m losing again. Up to 80 lbs. I’m currently trying to up my exercise to everyday instead of every other day. I’m taking a Kung Fu class too.

He forgot to mention that total calories consumed have to be less than calories used up by physical activity. In the end this is the only frigging thing that matters.

Perfect and great to hear. 70+ lbs here also. You obviously have the two things required. An open mind (that the Gov, 'doctors', and food pyramid are a lie/fraud) and DISCIPLINE. Unfortunately, most lack the later requirement.
Dr. Fong and fasting has changed my life I owe so much to him. This is the only way I have been able to lose weight fairly easily and look good and not have my skin flabby and feel good have a good mind not depressed and try each and every day to be better than the day before. I’m trying to get to one meal a day but it doesn’t come easily I hope that the year 2021 will be that year
Every single time I get discouraged about weight loss, I listen to one of Dr. Fung's videos and I am ALWAYS, ALWAYS encouraged that I am on the right path, and not just for weight loss, but for overall health.

Alternate aggressive fasting. No food just water for 24 hours, then just lunch and dinner the next day. Then no food for 24 hours, then just lunch and dinner and so on. Did that for about almost 2 months. But I also was eating healthy and working out. Now I just fast every once and a while and have kept the weight off. Total of 75 lbs lost and maintaining my goal weight

Removing refined grains/sugar and fasting have been game changers for me. I realize now why I was ALWAYS hungry before but barely hungry now. It wasn’t hunger. It was insulin.
I am losing weight and belly fat for the first time since menopause at 45. I finally have hope for better health. Thank you for giving me a way that actually gives lasting weight loss. Dr. Fung, I am glad that at the top of your list you put the elimination of sugars and refined carbs first, before you worked your way down to fasting. While many can jump into fasting, for others it is difficult. I always find that when you remove sugars and carbs first, and allow your body to acclimate to this way of eating, it makes fasting much easier.
Yes, you'll stay at relatively low fat percentages just by eating real food. Doesn't mean you can get to 12% body fat easily or something, but getting to 20% body fat with nature's foods is easy. Definitely the way to go before attempting fasting. There's no point in fasting if you're just gonna keep stuffing your body with bullshit foods all the time.
@@MyChannel-j3r I think it’s really interesting how, the minuet I cut out carbs, my caloric intake dropped dramatically. People say to avoid fat because of it’s high caloric density (and other reasons) but overlook its strong satiating effect. I fast for 4 days a week (96 hours) and I feel so much better. I never realized it until now but Eating all the time makes me tired, sluggish ,and uncomfortable. It’s scary to think that if I hadn’t seen your content I would still be feeling that way. The funny thing is I thought feeling like that was normal.

But when I wake up at morning I feel like gas is filled in my esophagus which even exerts some opposite force when i drink water and if I don't eat until noon then i start feeling little burning sensation in upper abdomen region. Here in India, I've heard most doctors recommending to have 3 meals at fixed timings and nobody thinks skipping a meal is healthy (I.F). But one day I skipped Breakfast and Lunch, that whole day I was bloated and finally had my Dinner at 10pm. This is my situation. And i wonder how people can fast for days. Pls guide me because doctors can't help me as they don't consider fasting as a good thing.

I have done steps 1-4 since I was 20 years old. Shop mostly at health food stores. Eat whole foods. Cook myself. Eat lots of veggies and I eat a variety of meats and fish and healthy fat. I am now 64. Over the past 10 years, I gained about 5 pounds a year. Most of it was on my belly. I got to a point (last year) when I realized that I was now OBESE! This did not feel good and it was alarming. I made a decision to lose the weight - not so much because of how I looked - but because I knew that it was affecting all my internal organs, my joints, etc. I had already tried to lose weight (instead of gaining it) for years and nothing worked. I didn't get it because I am NOT someone who eats the garbage that most people do. I drink mostly water and I monitor how much - about 64 - 80 oz. per day. I also drink a warm cup of lemon water in the morning. ANYWAY.... let's just say I have always done a TON of things to keep my body healthy - and YET - I gained the weight. I was about 40 pounds overweight. At that point, I stumbled upon INTERMITTENT FASTING! What a Blessing! It resonated with me so I started to incorporate I.F. into my life. That was about 10 months ago. Slowly the weight has been coming off. I have lost 34 pounds. Slowly is good - as it is the healthiest and most effective way to keep the weight off. I also added walking 3 miles, 5-6 times per week - briskly - so I work up a sweat! I was diagnosed last year with fatty liver disease and was SHOCKED! I don't drink, I don't eat or even purchase sugary foods - junk foods - EVER, etc. Yet I had the beginning of fatty liver disease. Since I started the I.F., that has gone away. Completely. I also know that I.F. can help diabetes. I don't have that issue and never have - but I was probably close to it. AGAIN, I.F. is the BEST way to "lose weight" -- but it's not just about losing weight - it is about helping your body and all the body parts to function well and not have to work harder and sometimes they cannot help you to function anymore if you do not treat them well. THANK GOD FOR I.F. I used to eat breakfast and always felt like I had been drugged. Especially if I ate the "healthy steel cut oats" - no sugar of any kind added - sometimes nuts or blueberries. When I stopped eating breakfast and fast EVERY SINGLE DAY now for 19 hours and have a eating window of 5 hours - THIS has given me my life back!!! I have so much more energy than I did before. I am so happy with I.F. I recommend it to EVERYONE!
Great to hear your story! I know most of us become more insulin resistant as we get older. IF and eating real whole foods, especially meat fish and eggs is changing my health for the better. Now I must increase my daily activity.. I work out but apart from that I'm sedentary doing only about 1500 steps a day if that! 3miles a day is awesome and a goal I need to set myself..

Just want to know, can I include it in my eating window? Also, I am a 51 year old woman. I weigh 86 kgs and fat lot of abdominal fat. Now I notice fat is everywhere....on my upper arms, hips and thighs too. How can intermittent fasting help me? I am sure I am insulin resistant bcoz I have fatty liver and abdominal fat too. I do 16.8 Fasting Monday to Friday, I do 20.4 Saturday and Sunday, so far I've lost 25lbs in 8 weeks, I start my first meal with full fat organic yogurt with strawberries, blueberries and pecan nuts and a pint of lemon water to wash it down, for my second meal, I'll have two poached eggs on one slice of high fibre wholegrain bread and a pint of lemon water to wash it down, for my last meal I'll have a large salad with lots of green leaf vegetables, with a lean protein such as turkey breast or chicken breast, or a mackrell fillet and of course a pint of water to wash it down, I can honestly say I'm losing weight and I'm not going hungry on this weight loss lifestyle plan, I'm just a little bit pissed off with myself for not doing this years ago, Happy Fasting Everyone x.
I loss 70lbs in 7 months on IF since Covid started and working down to eating one meal a day in a 30 min- 1hour window while eating whatever I wanted like pizza, steak, fettuccine alfredo, shake shack burgers, haagen daz ice cream, crispy creme donuts, carrot cake, etc for dessert. In short I ate whatever I wanted during my strict daily eating window. Now I'm maintaining the weight loss into 2021 on a daily 6-8 hour eating window on mediterranean diet while still enjoying foods I love, walking, limit stress, and rest. I lost 10 lbs. in 1 week: don't eat unless you're actually hungry, actually chew food/smaller bites (eating slower), don't eat for as long as possible before bed (16 hour fast half by sleeping), watered down black coffee, and mostly i just tried to pick food i thought my body would have to work harder to digest like carrots, celery, broccoli, cabbage, meat with no sauce except mustard. 10 more lbs. to go, but its really fun seeing progress! I've been doing keto and fasting, but still having a hard time losing weight. BUT, I still eat artificial sweeteners every day. So as of today, I'm cutting them out. When the doc says they don't work, I believe him.
Do you think sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit that claim natural zero calorie sweeteners are bad? Do they make you gain weight? Or they dont help you lose weight so its okay to eat them?
@@dulminadeeify Low insulin levels = weight loss + fixed insulin issues. Artificial sweeteners raise your insulin. Even if they have no sugar or calories, your insulin still goes up.

Great! I am 60 and since menopause have battled weight big time. I had just recently resigned myself to being a hopeless sugar addict whose future is just being an old fat lady. I have done Weightwatchers successfully many years ago but it is so much cooking and buying ingredients that cant be found and endless exercise. I know all those diets are too high maintenance and wont last. This is a simple, logical approach. I have only started a couple 9f days ago and lost 5 pounds already. I am inspired. Whats even more incredulous about making the scales move is that I cant exercise much due to severe hip osteoarthritis.

He talk alot regarding KETO tha can be a turn off to many however if you look at the foods the are natural and the big thing is sugars and carbs processed meats like lunch meats other processed foods such as boxed food lipton. Exclude as often as you can those two things. This includes sweet teas even pre bottled green teas are filled with sugar.

I have done the same, and with the same result. I also need to pass urine at night much less frequently, and I don't need levothyroxine any more. I'm sure that my 'hormones' are in much better balance.

It's due to a lack of electrolytes. Most people don't take in enough but when you fast your body needs much more. For a calorie free cheaper alternative to sports drinks mix in salt, "no salt" potassium, and baking soda into water daily. Your body will let you know if you need to increase or decrease the amount. If you are having a little diarrhea you've had too much salt. If you're cramping not enough. Check out snake diet on TH-cam. Cole is loud and in your face but truelly is all about helping people get the weight off and heal themselves. 👍
i was overweight once upon a time, tried lots of diets, slimming pills and teas, none of them worked, fortunately someone actually recommended agoge diet to me, never been happy with my weight loss journey
people may have over indulged on carbs at one time and the bad ones at that . carbs are not bad and neither is heathy fats . but you can over indulge on bad carbs and bad fats and both will lead to weight gain and bad health . if you have to lose 40 lbs than fat is your best fuel source because you have a lot of it to use . so added complex carbs or any carbs wouldn't be ideal . but that is not to say complex carbs are bad and don`t have its place in a heath diet . the right carbs at the right time can be very beneficial to a lot of people . athletic people . people who work in a fast pace work environment(construction or someone who is on their feet all day ) take LeBron James . he lost a lot of weight on a hyper keto /paleo diet . but he said when the season started he had to switch back because he lacked the energy for a full 4 qt game . so much so that he had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before and at halftime in the locker room for snacks . now if you are 40lbs over weight and sit on the couch or go for walks as exercises than pb&j sandwiches won`t be good for you . but for others its a great fuel sources at the right time .6am breakfast oatmeal and one egg and 4 egg whites mixed with spinach and tomatoes . 9-10am snack plain Greek yogurt with walnuts lunch 12-1pm 4-6 oz of grilled meat with brown rice and steamed veggies.330-4pm workout (weights )430-5pm complex protein shake after you workout 7 -730 dinner baked fish a large mixed green salad(olive oil and djon mustard and lemon dressing and a stemmed veggie . there you complex carbs and protein healthy fats from meat and olive avocado oils . you can live healthy and have carbs .
i personally prefer low carb than following keto. it's too restrictive and counterintuitive as it tells us to avoid even foods from nature such as complex starch and fruits
Makes complete and total sense .... common sense even. Overeating and eating the wrongs foods doesn't make any sense if we really stop and think about it and quit letting the government and big corp tell us what to put in our bodies.

Problem is even fruits, vegetables are man made. None of the fruits and grains existed as we eat today, existed until man started to "breed" them for sweetness and sugar. Same with meat (grain fed) not good. Omega 3 to 6 ratio is way out of whack.
@@ricos6243 Difficult question to answer. Go for grass fed meats and eggs. Organic vegetables. Minimal fruit as low GI as possible. Is the ideal, but not always possible. But I try to do it as often as I can. Very tough and expensive to do.

Dr. Fung, thank you for your work and insights into fasting. I am morbidly obese but over the past year have worked my way into and alternate day fasting lifestyle and while the weight loss is slow it is helping and I feel so much better physically and mentally! Reading your books and watching your videos had been a huge influence on my decision to start fasting. It makes so much more sense physiologically than any of the diet plans i have attempted. I have been obese from young childhood so I know it will take time to heal my body from the insulin resistance it has developed over the years. I am hoping to prevent diabetes and lower my A1C out of the pre-diabetic range as soon as possible.

Easy steps. However, in my opinion each day is more difficult to find healthy and natural food. Practically, every product that we find in the supermarket is full of sugar, even medicine... No matters that, I’ve started a year ago with this life style and more recently with intermittent fasting, and let me tell you that it works! I’ve lost about 24 pounds. I was suggested to lost weight because I have patellar chondromalacia, despite I was not overweighted. I’m much better now, but definitely looking for healthy food is a real challenge. It’s a matter of learning and discovering... and avoiding “influencers plans”. The other issue has to do with frequency of eating. I recently wanted to pay for a training program, and at the end I didn’t buy it because the plan only works if you eat at least five times in a day... So, I’m in the process of creating my own plan base of some literature review. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
@ZenGainZ Totally agree! I’ve done some research about the topic, and it’s quite frustrating to face on the food business. However, learning makes to look for the best, and it’s not the most expensive.
That's only because we aren't doing what Dr Fung said and eating foods we recognise. If you buy meat, eggs and vegetables - they are the same as they have always been. It takes resolve to say "no" to all the items in the various isles of the supermarket and just stick to the fresh food section, but that's literally all it takes. We need to make preparing our own food the status quo and stop buying food that was made for us by a food factory. Once you do that, you are putting your health in the hands of that company. We need to stop eating for convenience. Better to not eat than grab a quick meal from somewhere you can't trust.
Packaged food is just poison. Meat and potatoes is all anyone needs to eat, and for some people all meat is better especially for weight loss. If you are poor then you don't need a lot of meat though, just cook some and portion it out of the week/month whatever. But since beans cost about a buck a pound and you can get a whole chicken for less per pound than that and eggs for even less I don't think it is generally a real issue.
Long ago I read that to shop healthy, stay out of the aisles in the middle of the grocery store! Just around the edges, most likely, dairy, veggies and meat! You probably don't want to look at "health" food either, they slip in those sugary treats. Use the bulk foods dept if you have one.
Dr Fung I’ve been following you for years. I am a diabetic and that one time weigh 275 pounds. With an A1 C of 11. I bought your book followed your advice and have seen great success my A-1 C is now 6.3 and my weight is now below 200 pounds. If Covid hadn’t hit I would be farther along on my path but I got lazy. I’ve re-committed to the principles you’ve taught me and I’m using fasting for weight loss and seeing great success I just wish the whole world knew about you. You are awesome and you’re saving lives thank you Dr. Fung.

After being misdiagnosed and getting wrong treatment for months, and then going through the right treatment for an aggressive lymphoma, I ended up with 121 kg. I've lost more than 40 since I said ENOUGH in late November 2019 and took the decision to gamble all or nothing, to take drastic measures and research and experiment, made many mistakes of course, but kept at it and I found your books, podcast and videos, now January 2021 I'm just 3 kg from my ideal weight. Same here, turned 50 in the lockdown! same weight I was at 20. I'll never diet again, ADF is so much easier. You have to work with your psyche as well as working with your body! A fast is completely tolerable when you know you can eat tomorrow. It's also retrained a lot of habits, I thought you had to have food or you'd ............collapse or something! I'm not keto anymore (tried it, not for me) but I have less fear of fat now. More fear of sugar. I only do ADF when my weight has crept up, when I'm happy with my weight I do 1-2 fasts a week.
Just to say wish "my darling dr Fung" (this is how my man calls him 😂) a happy new year 2021. He has helped me a great deal, I just be feeling like a diva after losing weight following his advice. I reached my goals just in three months.❤️❤️

I started IF March 1, 2021 and lost 13 1/2 lbs at 54 years of age. I am plant based. I was struggling with processed stuff. I started cleaning up my food. I had been doing 12.:12 and could not lose. I wasn't deliberately doing fasting I just don't eat after dinner. I felt like my body wanted more of this so I started doing IF with my sister. We support each other. I love it. I also exercise at least 3-4 times of week (resistance, strength and aerobic). I notice when I can go longer during the month and when I need to stay at 16:8.
The magic in all of this, is that there is no magic! Just follow the steps and stick to the plan, and you will get there. Thanks Dr. Fung. Your info and books have helped my dad lose the need for insulin and other diabetes meds. His A1C is 5.1 and is doing better.👍🏾

Thank you for your wisdom Dr. Fung. I ned to lose 100lbs, and finally feel that you approach is something I can follow. Eating small meals throughout the day does not work for me, because, even though I eat nutritious foods, I have difficulty with portion control. I am now eating basically a keto diet, between five and eight p.m.. I am also walking my dog and will ride my bike as weather improves. I am surprised how easy it is to do without eating during the day, when I am busy, I don't even think about it other than to make sure I drink plenty of water from my Berkey. I feel confident your methods will work for me, and look forward to my next doctor's appointment and being able to show that I have actually lost twenty or more pounds. And, I have a walk-in closet filled with beautiful clothes, I know I will be able to fit into once again. That's brilliant! To say nothing about being able to move more freely again. I have lost weight in a variety of ways, fasting along with keto / paleo / low carb was by far the easiest and most pleasurable way to do the job. I have lost 6 kg in 6 weeks( I was 70kg for 40 of years ) by followed your advice Dr Fung, my blood pressure and glucose is under control ( my type 2 diabetes) last week my GP took Bendrofluazide off from my prescription, hopefully Metformin my next checkup and I had ordered "The Diabetic Code Cookbook" are on the way. Dr. Fung is great. His list is so helpful. Straightforward talk. Love it! Once you get fat adapted, I am, fasting is easy. Not hungry all day. I do OMAD easily. No problems. Not hungry all day. Look forward to my animal based dinner every night. I’m able to do one, two, and even three, day fast with these. I’ve lost 55 pounds in a relatively short period of time.I have a BMI of 24. I’m 63 years old and I’m at my junior high school weight. Work out five days a week which I think is also key to looking good and feeling good. I threw out (donated anything good) bags and bags full of old clothes that were two and three sizes too big for me. That was liberating. I went from 240 pounds down to 185 pounds at 6 foot one. I’m only sharing my story here just to encourage others to stay the course. Now I am on a longer fasting time because of Ramadan. Fasting is no problem when I think about how we become healthier. My family was amazed when I went down to 125 from 174, was gaining never weighed overc140lbs. At 66 I will follow your protocol for life. Salam Mr. Jones!! Congratulations on your new found health by intermittent fasting!! It’s wonderful to have Dr Fung teach us how to allow our our insulin levels to get back to normal. I’ve started intermittent fasting for a month and lost 10 pounds and also lost exhaustion, strong food cravings, and joint pain. Islamic fasting has been hard for me in the past, but about 5 years ago I realized headaches and nauseous feelings come from eating sugar foods the day before the fast. Took a Canadian to call them out, farm eggs are super food, fasting and an omlette diet will drop 20 lbs a week, no hunger, 1 large one omlette at 7 pm every day kept me full, added onions, veggies, cheese, and stayed active, in 90 days i dropped 92 lbs, so much for eggs being bad for us, but i stress find a free range farm, minonites in my area sold them

My son is 30 yrs old & epileptic... have tried keto & intermittent...it brought down the weight but seizures continued...what should I do..
After I read Obesity Code, I eliminated sugar, added a sugar free protein shake per day with fruit, lots of veg and protein, enjoyed fats like butter, nuts, olives, avacado, oh and no pasta or rice, potatoes on special occasions 😊. I’ve lost 55lbs in 6 months. I don’t count calories at all I just ask myself “what’s the best choice right now”. Oh and I try not to eat at night. For me it’s a sustainable way to eat forever, not a short term diet. Thank you Dr Fung!

Dr. Fong and fasting has changed my life I owe so much to him. This is the only way I have been able to lose weight fairly easily and look good and not have my skin flabby and feel good have a good mind not depressed and try each and every day to be better than the day before. How? What did you do exactly?
Alternate aggressive fasting. No food just water for 24 hours, then just lunch and dinner the next day. Then no food for 24 hours, then just lunch and dinner and so on. Did that for about almost 2 months. But I also was eating healthy and working out. Now I just fast every once and a while and have kept the weight off. Total of 75 lbs lost and maintaining my goal weight

Dr. Fung, I am glad that at the top of your list you put the elimination of sugars and refined carbs first, before you worked your way down to fasting. While many can jump into fasting, for others it is difficult. I always find that when you remove sugars and carbs first, and allow your body to acclimate to this way of eating, it makes fasting much easier.
Yes, you'll stay at relatively low fat percentages just by eating real food. Doesn't mean you can get to 12% body fat easily or something, but getting to 20% body fat with nature's foods is easy. Definitely the way to go before attempting fasting. There's no point in fasting if you're just gonna keep stuffing your body with bullshit foods all the time.

@@MyChannel-j3r I think it’s really interesting how, the minuet I cut out carbs, my caloric intake dropped dramatically. People say to avoid fat because of it’s high caloric density (and other reasons) but overlook its strong satiating effect. I fast for 4 days a week (96 hours) and I feel so much better. I never realized it until now but Eating all the time makes me tired, sluggish ,and uncomfortable. It’s scary to think that if I hadn’t seen your content I would still be feeling that way. The funny thing is I thought feeling like that was normal.

But when I wake up at morning I feel like gas is filled in my esophagus which even exerts some opposite force when i drink water and if I don't eat until noon then i start feeling little burning sensation in upper abdomen region. Here in India, I've heard most doctors recommending to have 3 meals at fixed timings and nobody thinks skipping a meal is healthy (I.F). But one day I skipped Breakfast and Lunch, that whole day I was bloated and finally had my Dinner at 10pm. This is my situation. And i wonder how people can fast for days. Pls guide me because doctors can't help me as they don't consider fasting as a good thing.

I have done steps 1-4 since I was 20 years old. Shop mostly at health food stores. Eat whole foods. Cook myself. Eat lots of veggies and I eat a variety of meats and fish and healthy fat. I am now 64. Over the past 10 years, I gained about 5 pounds a year. Most of it was on my belly. I got to a point (last year) when I realized that I was now OBESE! This did not feel good and it was alarming. I made a decision to lose the weight - not so much because of how I looked - but because I knew that it was affecting all my internal organs, my joints, etc. I had already tried to lose weight (instead of gaining it) for years and nothing worked. I didn't get it because I am NOT someone who eats the garbage that most people do. I drink mostly water and I monitor how much - about 64 - 80 oz. per day. I also drink a warm cup of lemon water in the morning. ANYWAY.... let's just say I have always done a TON of things to keep my body healthy - and YET - I gained the weight. I was about 40 pounds overweight. At that point, I stumbled upon INTERMITTENT FASTING! What a Blessing! It resonated with me so I started to incorporate I.F. into my life. That was about 10 months ago. Slowly the weight has been coming off. I have lost 34 pounds. Slowly is good - as it is the healthiest and most effective way to keep the weight off. I also added walking 3 miles, 5-6 times per week - briskly - so I work up a sweat! I was diagnosed last year with fatty liver disease and was SHOCKED! I don't drink, I don't eat or even purchase sugary foods - junk foods - EVER, etc. Yet I had the beginning of fatty liver disease. Since I started the I.F., that has gone away. Completely. I also know that I.F. can help diabetes. I don't have that issue and never have - but I was probably close to it. AGAIN, I.F. is the BEST way to "lose weight" -- but it's not just about losing weight - it is about helping your body and all the body parts to function well and not have to work harder and sometimes they cannot help you to function anymore if you do not treat them well. THANK GOD FOR I.F. I used to eat breakfast and always felt like I had been drugged. Especially if I ate the "healthy steel cut oats" - no sugar of any kind added - sometimes nuts or blueberries. When I stopped eating breakfast and fast EVERY SINGLE DAY now for 19 hours and have a eating window of 5 hours - THIS has given me my life back!!! I have so much more energy than I did before. I am so happy with I.F. I recommend it to EVERYONE!
Great to hear your story! I know most of us become more insulin resistant as we get older. IF and eating real whole foods, especially meat fish and eggs is changing my health for the better. Now I must increase my daily activity.. I work out but apart from that I'm sedentary doing only about 1500 steps a day if that! 3miles a day is awesome and a goal I need to set myself..

Just want to know, can I include it in my eating window? Also, I am a 51 year old woman. I weigh 86 kgs and fat lot of abdominal fat. I do 16.8 Fasting Monday to Friday, I do 20.4 Saturday and Sunday, so far I've lost 25lbs in 8 weeks, I start my first meal with full fat organic yogurt with strawberries, blueberries and pecan nuts and a pint of lemon water to wash it down, for my second meal, I'll have two poached eggs on one slice of high fibre wholegrain bread and a pint of lemon water to wash it down, for my last meal I'll have a large salad with lots of green leaf vegetables, with a lean protein such as turkey breast or chicken breast, or a mackrell fillet and of course a pint of water to wash it down, I can honestly say I'm losing weight and I'm not going hungry on this weight loss lifestyle plan, I'm just a little bit pissed off with myself for not doing this years ago, Happy Fasting Everyone x.
I loss 70lbs in 7 months on IF since Covid started and working down to eating one meal a day in a 30 min- 1hour window while eating whatever I wanted like pizza, steak, fettuccine alfredo, shake shack burgers, haagen daz ice cream, crispy creme donuts, carrot cake, etc for dessert. In short I ate whatever I wanted during my strict daily eating window. Now I'm maintaining the weight loss into 2021 on a daily 6-8 hour eating window on mediterranean diet while still enjoying foods I love, walking, limit stress, and rest. All things in moderation is key. We got this
I lost 10 lbs. in 1 week: don't eat unless you're actually hungry, actually chew food/smaller bites (eating slower), don't eat for as long as possible before bed (16 hour fast half by sleeping), watered down black coffee, and mostly i just tried to pick food i thought my body would have to work harder to digest like carrots, celery, broccoli, cabbage, meat with no sauce except mustard. 10 more lbs. to go, but its really fun seeing progress! I've been doing keto and fasting, but still having a hard time losing weight. BUT, I still eat artificial sweeteners every day. So as of today, I'm cutting them out. When the doc says they don't work, I believe him.
Do you think sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit that claim natural zero calorie sweeteners are bad? Do they make you gain weight? Or they dont help you lose weight so its okay to eat them?
@@dulminadeeify Low insulin levels = weight loss + fixed insulin issues. Artificial sweeteners raise your insulin. Even if they have no sugar or calories, your insulin still goes up.

Great! I am 60 and since menopause have battled weight big time. I had just recently resigned myself to being a hopeless sugar addict whose future is just being an old fat lady. I have done Weightwatchers successfully many years ago but it is so much cooking and buying ingredients that cant be found and endless exercise. I know all those diets are too high maintenance and wont last. This is a simple, logical approach. I have only started a couple 9f days ago and lost 5 pounds already. I am inspired. Whats even more incredulous about making the scales move is that I cant exercise much due to severe hip osteoarthritis.

He talk alot regarding KETO tha can be a turn off to many however if you look at the foods the are natural and the big thing is sugars and carbs processed meats like lunch meats other processed foods such as boxed food lipton. Exclude as often as you can those two things. This includes sweet teas even pre bottled green teas are filled with sugar.

I've been doing intermittent fasting for about 18 months and lost about 8 pounds, but my waist has reduced from 36" to 32" and lost my man boobs.
I have done the same, and with the same result. I also need to pass urine at night much less frequently, and I don't need levothyroxine any more.
I'm sure that my 'hormones' are in much better balance.

It's due to a lack of electrolytes. Most people don't take in enough but when you fast your body needs much more. For a calorie free cheaper alternative to sports drinks mix in salt, "no salt" potassium, and baking soda into water daily. Your body will let you know if you need to increase or decrease the amount. If you are having a little diarrhea you've had too much salt. If you're cramping not enough. Check out snake diet on TH-cam. Cole is loud and in your face but truelly is all about helping people get the weight off and heal themselves. 👍
i was overweight once upon a time, tried lots of diets, slimming pills and teas, none of them worked, fortunately someone actually recommended agoge diet to me, never been happy with my weight loss journey
So we really don’t have to follow a ketogenic diet
We just have to combine intermittent fasting with an all natural foods diet
That’s what I’m doing. I have lost 17 lbs so far. I am doing a daily smoothie and a shot of wheat grass to break the fast every day.
people may have over indulged on carbs at one time and the bad ones at that . carbs are not bad and neither is heathy fats . but you can over indulge on bad carbs and bad fats and both will lead to weight gain and bad health . if you have to lose 40 lbs than fat is your best fuel source because you have a lot of it to use . so added complex carbs or any carbs wouldn't be ideal . but that is not to say complex carbs are bad and don`t have its place in a heath diet . the right carbs at the right time can be very beneficial to a lot of people . athletic people . people who work in a fast pace work environment(construction or someone who is on their feet all day ) take LeBron James . he lost a lot of weight on a hyper keto /paleo diet . but he said when the season started he had to switch back because he lacked the energy for a full 4 qt game . so much so that he had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before and at halftime in the locker room for snacks . now if you are 40lbs over weight and sit on the couch or go for walks as exercises than pb&j sandwiches won`t be good for you . but for others its a great fuel sources at the right time .6am breakfast oatmeal and one egg and 4 egg whites mixed with spinach and tomatoes . 9-10am snack plain Greek yogurt with walnuts lunch 12-1pm 4-6 oz of grilled meat with brown rice and steamed veggies.330-4pm workout (weights )430-5pm complex protein shake after you workout 7 -730 dinner baked fish a large mixed green salad(olive oil and djon mustard and lemon dressing and a stemmed veggie . there you complex carbs and protein healthy fats from meat and olive avocado oils . you can live healthy and have carbs .

i personally prefer low carb than following keto. it's too restrictive and counterintuitive as it tells us to avoid even foods from nature such as complex starch and fruits

Problem is even fruits, vegetables are man made. None of the fruits and grains existed as we eat today, existed until man started to "breed" them for sweetness and sugar. Same with meat (grain fed) not good. Omega 3 to 6 ratio is way out of whack.

@@ricos6243 Difficult question to answer. Go for grass fed meats and eggs. Organic vegetables. Minimal fruit as low GI as possible. Is the ideal, but not always possible. But I try to do it as often as I can. Very tough and expensive to do.

Dr. Fung, thank you for your work and insights into fasting. I am morbidly obese but over the past year have worked my way into and alternate day fasting lifestyle and while the weight loss is slow it is helping and I feel so much better physically and mentally! Reading your books and watching your videos had been a huge influence on my decision to start fasting. It makes so much more sense physiologically than any of the diet plans i have attempted. I have been obese from young childhood so I know it will take time to heal my body from the insulin resistance it has developed over the years. I am hoping to prevent diabetes and lower my A1C out of the pre-diabetic range as soon as possible.

Easy steps. However, in my opinion each day is more difficult to find healthy and natural food. Practically, every product that we find in the supermarket is full of sugar, even medicine... No matters that, I’ve started a year ago with this life style and more recently with intermittent fasting, and let me tell you that it works! I’ve lost about 24 pounds. I was suggested to lost weight because I have patellar chondromalacia, despite I was not overweighted. I’m much better now, but definitely looking for healthy food is a real challenge. It’s a matter of learning and discovering... and avoiding “influencers plans”. The other issue has to do with frequency of eating. I recently wanted to pay for a training program, and at the end I didn’t buy it because the plan only works if you eat at least five times in a day... So, I’m in the process of creating my own plan base of some literature review. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
@ZenGainZ Totally agree! I’ve done some research about the topic, and it’s quite frustrating to face on the food business. However, learning makes to look for the best, and it’s not the most expensive.
That's only because we aren't doing what Dr Fung said and eating foods we recognise. If you buy meat, eggs and vegetables - they are the same as they have always been. It takes resolve to say "no" to all the items in the various isles of the supermarket and just stick to the fresh food section, but that's literally all it takes. We need to make preparing our own food the status quo and stop buying food that was made for us by a food factory. Once you do that, you are putting your health in the hands of that company. We need to stop eating for convenience. Better to not eat than grab a quick meal from somewhere you can't trust.
The difficult part is changing the habits of a lifetime, and going past the bananas and bread in the supermarket without stopping....
Packaged food is just poison. Meat and potatoes is all anyone needs to eat, and for some people all meat is better especially for weight loss. If you are poor then you don't need a lot of meat though, just cook some and portion it out of the week/month whatever. But since beans cost about a buck a pound and you can get a whole chicken for less per pound than that and eggs for even less I don't think it is generally a real issue.
Long ago I read that to shop healthy, stay out of the aisles in the middle of the grocery store! Just around the edges, most likely, dairy, veggies and meat! You probably don't want to look at "health" food either, they slip in those sugary treats. Use the bulk foods dept if you have one.
Dr Fung I’ve been following you for years. I am a diabetic and that one time weigh 275 pounds. With an A1 C of 11. I bought your book followed your advice and have seen great success my A-1 C is now 6.3 and my weight is now below 200 pounds. If Covid hadn’t hit I would be farther along on my path but I got lazy. I’ve re-committed to the principles you’ve taught me and I’m using fasting for weight loss and seeing great success I just wish the whole world knew about you. You are awesome and you’re saving lives thank you Dr. Fung.

After being misdiagnosed and getting wrong treatment for months, and then going through the right treatment for an aggressive lymphoma, I ended up with 121 kg.
I've lost more than 40 since I said ENOUGH in late November 2019 and took the decision to gamble all or nothing, to take drastic measures and research and experiment, made many mistakes of course, but kept at it and I found your books, podcast and videos, now January 2021 I'm just 3 kg from my ideal weight.
Your work was one of the main pillars of my struggle to get out of the downward spiral my life was falling into.

Same here, turned 50 in the lockdown! same weight I was at 20. I'll never diet again, ADF is so much easier. You have to work with your psyche as well as working with your body! A fast is completely tolerable when you know you can eat tomorrow. It's also retrained a lot of habits, I thought you had to have food or you'd ............collapse or something! I'm not keto anymore (tried it, not for me) but I have less fear of fat now. More fear of sugar. I only do ADF when my weight has crept up, when I'm happy with my weight I do 1-2 fasts a week.
Just to say wish "my darling dr Fung" (this is how my man calls him 😂) a happy new year 2021. He has helped me a great deal, I just be feeling like a diva after losing weight following his advice. I reached my goals just in three months.❤️❤️

I started IF March 1, 2021 and lost 13 1/2 lbs at 54 years of age. I am plant based. I was struggling with processed stuff. I started cleaning up my food. I had been doing 12.:12 and could not lose. I wasn't deliberately doing fasting I just don't eat after dinner. I felt like my body wanted more of this so I started doing IF with my sister. We support each other. I love it. I also exercise at least 3-4 times of week (resistance, strength and aerobic). I notice when I can go longer during the month and when I need to stay at 16:8.
The magic in all of this, is that there is no magic! Just follow the steps and stick to the plan, and you will get there. Thanks Dr. Fung. Your info and books have helped my dad lose the need for insulin and other diabetes meds. His A1C is 5.1 and is doing better.👍🏾

I have worked by way to eating only one meal a day. And I pretty much eat what I want. Which I realize now was a mistake. It's those damn desserts and bread. LOL
Thank you for your wisdom Dr. Fung. I ned to lose 100lbs, and finally feel that you approach is something I can follow. Eating small meals throughout the day does not work for me, because, even though I eat nutritious foods, I have difficulty with portion control. I am now eating basically a keto diet, between five and eight p.m.. I am also walking my dog and will ride my bike as weather improves. I am surprised how easy it is to do without eating during the day, when I am busy, I don't even think about it other than to make sure I drink plenty of water from my Berkey. I feel confident your methods will work for me, and look forward to my next doctor's appointment and being able to show that I have actually lost twenty or more pounds. And, I have a walk-in closet filled with beautiful clothes, I know I will be able to fit into once again. That's brilliant! To say nothing about being able to move more freely again. I absolutely LOVE you Jason Fung. I am in about to launch myself in the health industry and I direct clients to your material all the time. I have also studied in several relevant fields. I have lost weight in a variety of ways, fasting along with keto / paleo / low carb was by far the easiest and most pleasurable way to do the job. I have lost 6 kg in 6 weeks( I was 70kg for 40 of years ) by followed your advice Dr Fung, my blood pressure and glucose is under control ( my type 2 diabetes) last week my GP took Bendrofluazide off from my prescription, hopefully Metformin my next checkup and I had ordered "The Diabetic Code Cookbook" are on the way. Dr. Fung is great. His list is so helpful. Straightforward talk. Love it! Once you get fat adapted, I am, fasting is easy. Not hungry all day. I do OMAD easily. No problems. Not hungry all day. Look forward to my animal based dinner every night. I’m able to do one, two, and even three, day fast with these. I’ve lost 55 pounds in a relatively short period of time.I have a BMI of 24. I’m 63 years old and I’m at my junior high school weight. Work out five days a week which I think is also key to looking good and feeling good. I threw out (donated anything good) bags and bags full of old clothes that were two and three sizes too big for me. That was liberating. I went from 240 pounds down to 185 pounds at 6 foot one. I’m only sharing my story here just to encourage others to stay the course. I picked up 5lbs in 1 yr. Thank you I feel like I have to restart my thinking to prevent from slipping back to old eating I eat at 5pm once a day. Now I am on a longer fasting time because of Ramadan. Fasting is no problem when I think about how we become healthier. My family was amazed when I went down to 125 from 174, was gaining never weighed overc140lbs. At 66 I will follow your protocol for life. My daughter purchased your book as a gift for me , but its her reading I am watching your videos until I can borrow my book. 😆. Oh! Salam Mr. Jones!! Congratulations on your new found health by intermittent fasting!! It’s wonderful to have Dr Fung teach us how to allow our our insulin levels to get back to normal. I’ve started intermittent fasting for a month and lost 10 pounds and also lost exhaustion, strong food cravings, and joint pain. Islamic fasting has been hard for me in the past, but about 5 years ago I realized headaches and nauseous feelings come from eating sugar foods the day before the fast. This week, I plan to intermittent fast as an Islamic fast also. God willing, it will go nicely. All the best to you. Peace

I include limited carbs and no package processed foods. Intermittent fasting as Dr Fong explains has many metabolic benefits. The United States government told us no more than 2 eggs per week. I am now eating 2-3 eggs every single day.
On my OMAD, i eat 6 in an omlette, often 3 days a week, at same time my cholesterol dropped
Took a Canadian to call them out, farm eggs are super food, fasting and an omlette diet will drop 20 lbs a week, no hunger, 1 large one omlette at 7 pm every day kept me full, added onions, veggies, cheese, and stayed active, in 90 days i dropped 92 lbs, so much for eggs being bad for us, but i stress find a free range farm, minonites in my area sold them
I wish there was a Dr. Fung for mental health like how Dr. Fung spread the truth about diabetes and obesity. Something to help for depression.
