3 (5) Minute Friday: Field Tip vs. Broadhead - Different Flight with Thumb Release?

- Today I try to answer a question of a subscriber.
Is the flight different of a Broadhead to a field tip, when you shoot thumb release?
I don't have a big selection of bread heads here, so I could only test it with the ones shown in the video. I think the higher poundage the bow is, the less difference you will get. I shot 46#ish and sometimes the Broadhead went a little bit to the left. Besides one :)

I do not do archery, I found your channel because of a misspelled search on my part. Thank God, because I absolutely find your videos fascinating & educational. Your precision on the information makes it easy even for a non-archer to grasp, understand, and enjoy. Thank you for making these videos!
thank you
Ok, good note on the alignment of broadhead and noc 👌 thanks, learnt another new thing
I love 3 (5) minute Fridays!! That was really interesting, thanks Armin👍
Love the end credit s too
Love my thumb glove from Archer's tidbits. Minimalistic and comfortable. Sometimes i forget i have it on
I know what you mean hehe
Very interesting. Thanks for the 3 minutes Friday 🙏
This is why modern broadheads doesn't use two barbs anymore.
Sweet stuff AH love the short format viel Spaß
Looks like Cold Steel Broadheads😉
plastic :)
yeah was even written on the box hahaha
How do you feel about the leaning forward stance used by Justin Ma and Joe Gibbs. Is that more specific to war bows?
It's better described as hitching the hips . And its all about heavier weights, you can use the technique with lower weight bows .
But don't do it wrong by hunching
Look at rydragn TH-cam channel
He gave a great response to Matt Easton . Matt was hunching while pulling a higher weight bow .
The technique was develops across many historical nations for a multitude of reasons, but as Ma explains, it's mainly used to engage the back and shoulder muscles in a stronger position.
As someone above said, it's a great way to draw heavier bows using technique rather than complete strength, but despite this, when you train archery enough, your muscles will hopefully be strong enough to shoot in many different positions like in horseback archery, turning to shoot backwards, or downwards like jarmakee. It's just one of the many techniques you should have in your mind and muscles for when all sorts of different archery situations pop up!
its one of the good ways to do it
I love the short content... as my mother would always say "sh*t or get off the pot!" 😁
Thank you Armin for testing it. I honestly wanted to know the arrow flight with broad head thumb release, but broad heads are forbidden at any range where I live.
It seens aa though you could correct a habitual left buas by giving the broadhead a right bias
Magnus stingers fly exactly like field tips no tuning needed. They are also down right nasty. I've taken 3 moose with them shot from a 70lbs compound at 15 to 25 yards from the ground. 2 were complete pass throughs and one got stuck in the back side shoulder blade. All 3 moose only made it about 100 yards before falling over. That being said I wouldn't even attempt a shot at one over 30 yards away. That would be a job for the 45-70 gov. or the 30-06.
Quick question, I made a one month pause from shooting and now I keep scratching between my thumb and the skin that connects the thumb to the rest of the palm, and can't remember how I fixed it last time.
Nock the arrow a bit high so it's on a bit of an upward angle from tip to nock.
@@bethearrow675 that will force the arrow to travel a bit downward, and i know i fixed it some other way.
keep your thumb and index finger relaxed (bow hand)
@@Ayce47 No no it works just fine. We are talking millimeters here. If your arrow is traveling downward you got it at too much of an angle.
Hey there armin I am beginner in archery and I watched your video how to aim but it was a little... you know... straight forward so can you please tell me how to aim thank you ,kudos☺️
hi. Simply go through the video very slow, all is explained there. there is not more to say :)
Thanks armin wasn’t expecting a reply from such a great archer🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏼
Ha, that is what I am getting consistently, drift to the left. Are those arrows over spined or under?
if then under spined
Dynamic spine is very low because of the heavier tip I suppose
Did you also try 3 or 4 bladed hunting tips? when practicing with sharp broadheads I use cardboard/carpet target and a little vaseline on the shaft to stop them sticking, stops losing the tips in field targets, also, I will keep the broadheads sharp and pristine, by only using the one to understand any difference in trajectory, all things being equal with tip weight. Those broadheads look really large, so not surprised there was deviation with nock alignment.
What bow are you using good sir?? And the weight?
Hue hi by Vegh around 50 in that draw length
when i try to shoot thumb release my arrows like to fling out more to the right and arent accurate at all, and if they hit they are angled i think its because of the bow im using, because they dont flight right at all but i could be doing something wrong as im new, i just think my bow is more square and has a large arrow pass causing it its almost like the arrow falls off before shooting. the bow is a "KAINOKAI Traditional Handmade Longbow Horsebow from amazon at 40# @28"
Can have many reasons. Arrows might not match the bow, bow to upright, not clear release (no back tension) hard to say. Usually the arrows tend to go a bit to the right and as long as you shoot with both eyes on the target, you will adapt quickly
Accuracy wise, that’s the difference between retrieving your arrow and prepping the carcass, compared to tracking it for hours because your shot resulted in slow death
Von wo ist dieser Daumenschutz? Ich hab es nicht verstanden.
Archer's Tidbits, did a video of the former version a few weeks ago
If the broadheads influence the flight path vertically on the left and right, wouldn't a horizontal adjustment make sense? Theoretically, they should then work like a wing. (Until the arrow rotates)
yes
Wow interesting, the broad heads catch the wind just like a fletching! You could probably do some trick shots with that 😎
I guess with higher poundage the deflection will be less
We need a comparison of that Hou Yi Bow with the Zhuran Bow
With 2 blades you need to center them to avoid turning. They should be horizontally flat not vertically. This is more important for Mediterranean release where you also would aim with the arrow.
yepp
arrows spin during flight so thats redundant
Maximilian Pierce true but if you aim with the tip of the arrow you want the blade not be in the way of your sight
It's not fair that you get to play with bow and arrows when I have to work on Friday. 😁
yeah I am almost very sorry :D
@@ArminHirmer I bet you are 😄 Enjoy the weekend
I always laugh at myself when I occasionally shoot broadheads,I always flinch as I draw the blade closer to my hand . I know I will be perfectly fine it’s just the unconditional flinch .
It was worse the one and only time I tried “fire”arrows. ( never again btw)
I realized I was drawing open flame towards my hand and a wood bow and the arrow should be a lot longer
With compound bow it's very common for a fixed blade broadhead hit just a little bit to the side of a field point
My thorn brodheads fly just like a field point
hello Armin i very much enjoy your videos! i really want the 40lb Kheshig from Alibow, can you please recommend what arrows you like to shoot out of this bow??
the ones from this video, mu new favs: the D-Stroyer Carbon, check the review
I would go for arrows heavier than 11gpp and stiffer arrows seem to perform better for me and a few others with the Kheshig!
Would shoot better with katrah using broadheads
of course, I just wanted to compare it this way. More to come :)
Happy haircut
Just started watching and already fear you robinhood these cool arrows because of the broadheads )
hehe just scratched one nock, so all good
there are many broadhead designs...
Using field tips make your target also way more durable.
Broad heads are more used for hunting as far as I know.
of course, but as somebody asked this interesting question, I wanted to know
Sometimes it's just because, not for making it right
Lol! Typical, the weird one didn't have the manners to become the damaged arrow (lost board head in the hay bale) With a little realignment, all was good. Such is so often the way, too. Life Lessons.
