I understand exactly what you mean. You literally taught me how to "aim" with a bow in an earlier video, so the detail in your teachings come with clarity.
That’s interesting! I will try it myself later in the garden ☺️👍 Thank you so much for sharing! ☺️🙏 Exit: I have tried and with the Bamboo Archery ring it is relatively easy to practice with this set-up, since the ring is pressed against the middle finger. So it’s only a small movement… 😁👍
Absolutely incredible coincidence! I tried this about 5 days ago when I read some article focussing on the thumb/middlefinger lock (more or less ignoring the index finger support) and it felt like a revelation. The arrows come out noticeably "cleaner" and felt way more precise. I am definetly looking forward to more videos of this !
Wow, this suggestion changed almost everything for my "self-taught" archery quest. U're an amazing communicator, I hope I can travel to malta someday and take some workshop with you... I'm following you since quite a while ago, but I've never had commented on your videos, but now that I finally decided to break the silence, I had to say... So many thanks for your content, it has been core in my research. Big thanks! Keep doing a great job man cheers! 🙇
Finally tried this technique and it works fantastically.I have to practice it more so it’s more natural.Armin you are the God of archery.Thank you Professor .
That is great Input. Not sure whether i am doing it right, but thumb is now much straighter and therewith less under tension. Produces less pain and tighter groups.
I checked it out, as soon as i saw your Video. Place : Austria/20.5° Bow: Gozer Nomad L2 #42 28" Arrow: Gold Tip Traditional 500, Length 32", GPI 8.6 Drawlength (till ear) 31" ------------------- Smoother release and solid Bow-chatra. Significant tighter 3-shot-groups at 18 m (all around 8 cm Groups) Even for my anchor at 31 " the sliding thumbrelease works better then the L-release. Herzlichen Dank
I have been doing something similar that I thought of as kind of a shallow hook in order to have a cleaner release. Not the same, I was not thinking about moving the thumb forward... I will have to pay attention more and try your technique to see what is what... Thanks again!
🤯 Great technique! I've been shooting with a shallow hook thumbring for a while. Always using the Kyudo style release of turning until 'it shoots'. But this 'sliding thumb' technique seems to result in even less string oscillation.
In the book of Arabic Archery, they say to move you your thumb first. Your thumb is what opens the release not the index finger, your thumb pushes the index finger just like what you are doing here. And on some of your shots after the sliding release your hand was still over your shoulder in a crescent moon shape especially on the 53 pound bow you were using. This means there was a clean follow through (according to Arabic archery military manual) After doing this for awhile now (and while doing this speed shooting) I think This maybe have been the way of doing it. It does all that is described in the old books. (Even with accuracy) It’s super accurate, efficient and you can do it fast, this definitely is the faster way of releasing, while still being accurate. I know this to be true 1,000 percent. The other way doesn’t really work while shooting super fast. When I’m shooting multiple arrows quickly this is the only way to shoot and be accurate and still be able to load fast. And now after watching this video and learning even more, I’m going to be using the added teachings u put in this video to become even more accurate. I thank you big time for this sir. You taught me a lot in this video. (Especially concerning the draw elbow and this video, showed me a lot concerning the release, I’m going to be stealing this teaching 😆 j.k) but in all honesty I need to do a video on this asap. I cannot thank you enough sir.
Thank you for this useful tutorial, struggling before on how to release thumb draw due to different technique used. The thumb slide method is much better when releasing the arrow from the string to reduce vibration. Currently using a turkish horsebow for training.
after couple rounds i think this does help with the release even with heavy bows. before this video, my method is i draw to my anchor, and when release i gentlely "open" my thumb, its mostly crisp but sometimes when i'm tired my thumb will be drag foreward. now with this sliding release, i still draw to my anchor first and then i do the slide, its less shock and cleaner but yes need some practice. holy, its so helpful, Armin thank you for this.
Thank you, i m trying thumb release after watching your videos for 2 weeks and i have more pleasure than i had with my tree fingers technic. (sorry for my english..). It s seems more natural for me and more dynamic
i solved the fishtail inducing string vibration by moving my pointer finger to the other side of the string. i believe that i learned that from you. thanks
Great video, I really love when you make these. I have been struggling with a clear thumb release forever. Granted, I train alone (at least, since I have not been in Malta ;)), but I have been practicing for four or so years and still cannot get there. I recently moved on to Slavic, mostly because I like to keep trying out new things, but I found that release much easier (at least, after you figure out that the arrow is going way to the right from where it would go with thumb release). My Mediterranean draw is also still smoother than my thumb, though I have not really practiced that one in years. Somehow, thumb release has not clicked in my brain yet, though I love it as a technique. Will try out this new method, thank you Armin!
Thanks for the technique. Better accuracy and tighter groups with only a little practice. Works really well for me with lighter bow, feels a little insecure with 45lbs, I’ll have to practice it more
I'm relatively new to archery (started in March 2022) but as far as technical interest goes, I'm so very inclined.. have since purchased 2 traditional bows (30 &40lbs), a cheap compound (which I tuned and got the point of grouping 4" at 40-50m), a barebow (samick sage copy 40lbs) and have started to make my own (albeit assembling) my own arrows from pure carbon & feather fletched (for the trad & bare bows) and ultralow vanes (3 & 4 fletched)for the compound. The journey is really interesting and tuning arrows to fit the many bows means I now have an arsenal of arrows (wife says looks like I'm going into battle ha ha).. varying spines, lengths, materials etc.. Now looking to build my own bows (trad Turkish) with efg, cane & bamboo laminations and hardwood handle and siyah (wish me luck).possibly also build own arrows out of bamboo, wood and maybe cane and local tuber plant stems which are really light and tough when dry.
i am having so much trouble. i dont know if its the arrows, or my release, or the bow is too heavy. the arrows fly all crooked even at 2 3 feet distance, and i cant hit anything. 😭 not to mention the string slaps me and the fletchings scratch me from time to time. 😥
Work on form and aligning your back, shoulder, and arm all into a straight line. String slap, try to rotate your forearm so that your elbow is pointing to the left of your bow. For the fletching hitting you, you want to knock your arrow slightly higher than normal maybe like a 30 degree angle pointing downward when you draw it back it will be where it needs to be so it won’t hit your hand
Armin, it looks when you use the ring it would be different from the glove--kind of a 2-stage release. As you straighten your thumb and slide it alongside the finger, the ring is still briefly hooked under the second finger (kind of like the way a Korean male ring is used). So the thumb would be out of the way first, then the ring releases an instant later. Am I seeing that right? What a fun technique to play with!
I have short fingers, and this is the way I have always used this type of draw, I didn't realize I was doing something different thanks for showing this kind of a release, works great for me. at 20 yards I use 6 targets to keep from robin hooding my arrows, I shoot bamboo arrows.
I know what you mean, overt the last 6-8 months my aim improved considerably and on shorter distances I started robin hooding arrows, and because I use carbon arrows with explosion-proof rings my teammates started to call me the javelin maker xD Not exactly a badge of honor but I wear it proud :D
Thanks Armin, what u teach there almost give me any enlightenmeng on how did Imam Abu Hasyim perform his technique because i see u hold a bot that string with index finger...that imam when he lock during pull the bow phase, his index finger crossing the string.
That's exactly how I release and yes I expired how painful it is when the string touches my finger. I try to tilt my hand and my thumb more than but I'm searching for a glove like this. Because it feels unnatural than. Where it is to buy?
I'm sitting here fiddling with my fingers. This technique seems very natural with the second finger lock. But it seems a bit awkward with the first finger lock. If that is the case in practice, it would explain why this technique is not in wide use. It may be perfect for your release style but that is a minority style. Have to try it!
Thank You! But how else would string twist work??? (especially if you translate Ferke/Farke/Farka literally as "rub"!) (now ignoring the militant school saying flick thumb and index to an explicit L... 😬)
If you have a strong enough bow where you are pulling back harder, your hand will naturally flick back and away from the string when you release... It is not supposed to be a flourish, just an explanation of what happens naturally when doing a clean release with a strong bow.
@@0ooTheMAXXoo0 thanks, but not exactly the same what I meant. Yes, with enough tension your hand and arm do flick back. I was more talking about the fingers what they are doing (or not). Like with artificial overdoing the back flick (follow up), so many videos show exaggerated L's with thumb and index finger.
Hello Armin, each time I have tried to hold the arrow end, my arrow will keep moving over to the left side, so what I Happy doing now is putting the arrow between my fingers and pulling back on the string, is that still OK doing it that way?
This channel is deeply annoying: I'm waiting for my bow to arrive after deciding to pick up archery again after a 17 year break, wanting to pass the waiting time by watching archery videos. Thanks Armin 🙏

More like a Fantastic Friday😃! The Snake, the Griffin (!!!), a new technique, and a 6-minute Friday! Thank you, Armin 🙇♂🏹
Thankyou Master Armin! Have a great weekend🙏
Interesting technique, I'll try it for long range shooting like 50-70m because right now I struggle to stabilize my release at these distances

This makes a lot of sense. Visually it seems it would provide more consistency than opening while twisting the drawing hand.
Haven’t had time for archery or videos recently. Forgot how much I enjoy you! I’ll go shooting this week and try this release. Thanks, Armin!
Thx Armin, I have to try! 👍🏻
Awesomeness Thank you

Nice buddy!! It's like the double set trigger on a sniper rifle . One hallmark of a good archer is a silky smooth release
Nice thumb draw glove!!
Danke!
Great videos Armin, thanks so much.
Hi Armin, thanks for another tool in my techniques arsenal to try.

This is gold
That's going to be difficult with war weight bows.
does not have to be for every bow ;)

ok, something to try next day at the range
I know you’ve talked about the shooting glove you use but seeing it more in use, I’m very interested in purchasing one. Where can I find that “model”?
mine is from Freddie Archery
Sorry Armin, i tryed twice to telegram you, but my message always fadet.
No Idea how to contact you or what to do else.....

not that hard, I have my email in every video description, but not any telegram link :)
Please mention who makes your glove please
Cool. Why the twist on the wrist at the release?
I wonder if this can work on Olympic recurve
One usually does not shoot an Olympic recurve with thumb draw
U lose draw length as arrow creep forward
thats why we dont creep forward :)

yes, tomorrow :)

Not if you pull back at the same time and that’s the thing I wanted to show here
Definitely gonna try this as soon as my thumb is less sore lol.
i've always thumb released this way and didn't know better it seems haha
Thumb on middle finger didn't work for me, but I do agree with creeping back just past full draw.its night and day🎯🎯🎯❤🇺🇸
