This controller deeply unsettles me. When I play with it, I always get a sinking feeling, that, if it runs out of batteries or if it disconnects, then I am doomed. It crushes me to play with this more than 2 hours, because I always feel scared after a while because I paid a lot for these and my wife and kids, five total with me included. I might as well treat these controllers as if it was 250000 dollars each and my life is on the line. My son doesn’t like the Xbox but he played with me because it was Father’s Day weekend. I’m not the only one in my family who is scared of this, as my son constantly bangs on the wall screaming after it disconnects. 3/10.

This controller is really good for high pressure gaming situations. Though for me it disconnected a few times wich could cause many annoying situations. Watch as logitech rebuilds this things with high grade components and charges 70$ for it, and it comes out sturdy as hell. To basically call it "The Logitech Sub Section"
Memes aside, you didn't mention the one thing that makes this controller vaguely interesting; the hardware xinput/direct input switch. This still has some minor potential utility in older games, specifically I've found it useful for using it with dosbox emulation.
Ah i think some other controllers have that switch as well. I think something really cheap by SpeedLink, no? Anyway i refuse to play on anything but Xbox360 controller (via PC wireless kit) and it's sometimes a chore with those older games, because in XInput there is no force feedback (which can be fixed) and the two triggers are all on one axis, which isn't always great, so have to use some remapping software. Having the option in hardware is definitely a good call.
I had a F710 back then and was playing Battlestation: Midway deep with my friends. It was the last game I played before the bluetooth went off only to found out that it's not waterproof and that time the game no longer register my input. It was a breathtaking experience till things got filled up. edit: got a penta kill with this controller. Definitely a great buy for unchecked budget operations.

One thing you didn’t mention is how Logitech controllers are able to get up to a quintuple kill without even being connected. You really got to the bottom of it and earned a lot of subs from that
The wired F310 version of this controller has served me pretty well, considering how cheap it was. I agree that the D-Pad could be better (I prefer something closer to the SNES' D-Pad), but I quite like the feel of the ABXY buttons.

This gamepad usability split in half and sank faster than the Titanic itself and imploded at a depth deeper than a cheap hobby sub built entirely of parts from amazon! I'm sure ol Captain John Smith himself would've been proud, using this last gen gamepad on the bridge of that magnificent unsinkable beast of a ship right up until the AA batteries died and right when that bloody iceberg was dead ahead of them! I got this controller shipped to my home in Ocean Gate, New Jersey, the quality is so amazing, it feels like its worth 250,000 dollars. I could play for 96 hours on this thing and not get tired! This controller is so absolutely breathtaking, I somehow got 5 extra kills, after the controller disconnected! This controller is a absolute Titan, and I will be sure to use it in the future! I have used this controller for Project64 since it didn't recognize the Xbox One controller or the Series S/X controller. It's not a bad controller it's brilliant for emulators.
i deeply understand how amazing this oceanic experience is a downside is when the batteries stop working but i do get a 5 kill every time its amazing . i recommend playing sabnuatica with this as it is great for water like open world games

Say what you want but good ol' Logitech F710 controller was probably best quality thing on this trashy submarine. I got it for like 3 or 4 years now and it's my favourite. And I had plenty of different controllers including originals that came with PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox360 (with USB receiver), and clones from different brands. It's well made, battery life is great, the wireless connection works fine, never had a problem. It's eazy do disassembly for cleaning and to put it back together. It's disgusting that people started bashing the controller, because it was used in failed submarine that looked like garage made junk that can't even come close to equipment used by serious people like James Cameron. And it's freaking horrible that Logitech suffered, because crazy dude thought that it's good idea to use a gaming controller to control a submarine even when I'm like 99% sure that it wasn't the controller that failed there.
I have some nostalgia with that exact controller. I remember using it at your Toronto downtown apartment. When emulation was new. On your laptop we played retro games and i was blown away that you can play Nintendo game. It's common now but back then I couldn't believe you had all the games.
I have mine still from 12 ish years ago, recognised it immediately in the sub footage. It is still sold at EB games here in Australia. Its probably one of the most uncomfortable controllers I've ever owned, even the kids don't like using it. Side note, would be super interested to learn about what the dongle was plugged into, it would have to have been outside the pressure chamber, wondering if they were running this thing off a rasberry pi.

the f710 is an amazing controller but it really does come down to what you are playing. for pc games in general the xbox controller is a better controller but for emulation on the pc the f710 really holds up cause ergonomically its basically a play station controller which also makes it a more comfortable super Nintendo controller. it can switch between xinput and direct input has a guide button and extremely accurate thumb sticks. the sticks are accurate enough that you can beat the staff ghost times with it in fzero x.
When I play with my PS 5 Controller I just destroy noobs with it but when I got back with this controller when I was young and fresh I felt under pressure It felt like I was in danger again. It took my breath away when I realized how deep of a nostalgia this experience was! I felt trapped when I handed my hands on this controller because games were fun again. Yea sure the Controller had issues but that was fine. The only really bad thing that has happend to me while using this controller was when I was playing subnautica the controller allowed me to go down but when I tried to get back up it did not let me. Overall it is still good.
The battery issue is why I bought a usb type c adapter and the f310 instead and it works great literally my favorite controller. Don't have to deal with dongles bluetooth pairing or batteries or charging just plug in and play.
Never tried the wireless version, but I know I have an F310 in the garage somewhere. Never gave me any issues. Like you said, it's nothing shmancy, just gets the job done. :0)

I've heard they were using Windows. Apparently visible in some footage from past dives, but I didn't actually look at this myself.
