I've not heard of them before and thanks for the recommendation. I'll add them to my list and check them out. Thanks for checking out this video fella. KZ
You definitely should check out all the World of Warcraft trailers out there. Also I totaly would recommend "A night to remember" from The Witcher 3 cinematics
Fun little tidbit for you, that giant structure Guilliman is kneeling in front of is likely the tomb of his dear brother, Sanguinius, primarch of the Blood Angels space marine legion on the planet of Baal, who sacrificed himself to fight Horus (the big bad guy from the Horus heresy cinematic) and save the Imperium. So that banner of the Blood Angels being there isn’t just adding to the world building, it’s also a nod/context provider as to when and where Guilliman’s speech is taking place
This is arguably the best of the cinematics released by games workshop, specifically because it finally depicts the reality of the lore, which is that nids are horrifically op lmao
This cinematic was fantastic and really surprised me. I really enjoyed the darker tones of it too. Not once did I think of it pushing miniatures and I would say that's a win.
The contrast of the voiceover continuing to repeat ‘victory’ with the Astartes getting destroyed is amazing. Great breakdown as well. It’s crazy how much work and attention goes into these cinematics.
Guilliman knows full well he's full of it when he says "victory". He knows better than anyone how bad things really are, but he can't show it because he is the man every single human looks to and is forced to try and hold everything he and his father hated together to survive. I don't envy him one bit.
Something that probably is important to remember is that GW is a model company and in these trailers they always show of new models, so probably why not so many of the shots are as close as you would like it is because they want to show of these new models. Also there is one more cinematic trailer GW has that you haven't seen. It is for their Warhammer 40K spinoff game: Kill Team.
It would be interesting to see your reactions to the intro cinematics of the three Warhammer Dawn of War games, the visual style really changes between them as does their method of story telling
They're on my list and the original one was a childhood memory (the game). I don't remember the cinematic too much. I hope you enjoy them as I'll probably spilt them up into separate videos. KZ
This is such an emotional rollercoaster of a cinematic. I keep wanting the heroes to win, and they keep getting on the verge...then just getting obliterated. The power scaling is crazy.
I found this one really interesting, I've never seen the space marines depicted so much on their back foot. I actually felt overwhelmed. We also feel that way by watching due to the darkness and smoke or thick atmosphere.
@@kaizammit It puts into perspective how evil the enemy is. Side note, that sound you pointed out sounds like Mongolian throat singing, if my ears don't mistake me
@@kaizammit It does fit well! I also see your point about the movements. I think for me, the Marines are WAY too slow. Those guys are wicked fast and yet they kind of move like C3-PO in this cinematic. Especially when compared to how Sa'Kan moves in the final battle of Pariah Nexus.
I was told that they move so fast, it's like a ghost or something so why do they feel the need to make them walk like that? Good description! Astartes and Space Marine 2 nailed the animation. Heavy but very fast.
You picked up on it a little bit but there's a reason this cinematic features more space marine death and darkness than you're used to. If you pay particular attention to the voice over, it's actually comparing the propaganda to the brutal truth of reality. "Victory is what the preachers cry." Everything he says is repeating the propaganda that the Imperium tells their people while the cinematic shows what is actually happening, the Imperium slowly losing. He even bookends this by repeating "that is what the preachers say" to tell you everything between is propaganda. It is not until the teleport beacon slams into the ground that Guilliman starts speaking 'truth.' It is telling that when the terminators appear he says "it is our hope that will damn us" because we're used to seeing terminators being the turning point toward victory and them mowing everything down. But then we see the terminator ripped apart, the librarian defeated, and finally the red skull symbols on the holodisplay that show defeated worlds. And it closes with an almost defeated sounded "victory" as counterpoint to the truth and the burden that is on Guilliman's shoulders.
Great video as always! Love the detailed breakdown and glad to see You enjoying these cinematics! As for 51:34. Yes, it's an attack. As a reminder, Librarians are Space Marines that are very capable Psychers, using their powers as an addition to regular, physical weapons. That floating Tyranid with exposed "brain" is a Neurotyrant, a bioform that evolved specifically to attack via psychic means. The Librarian was overpowered by it, and he died by being basically fried by it, that's why he fell on his knees and dropped the axe
This is easily my absolute favorite cinematic GW has ever made. Tyranids are my favorite faction in 40K and seeing them fight the space marines, which are supposed to be these super powerful, almost invincible, massive humans, and still be able to pretty much wipe out all of them is so cool to see. This cinematic is also showing just how much of a threat the tyranids actually are. I do agree with you on your points about the camera not shaking enough, they should have added just a little bit more and tried to make it actually look handheld. But with the space marine animations I do see why you say they look a little bit odd but at the same time, they aren’t really humans anymore so they probably don’t move exactly like a normal human, especially while wearing armor that probably weighs upwards of 250 pounds. The part with the librarian definitely does feel “Lego” though, I do agree with you on that. My main issue with this cinematic is that we don’t get more Tyranids vs Space marines for a looong time. It’s such a cool thing to see but next edition there will be a new thing that the space marines are fighting so the tyranids will take a back seat for a while. Hopefully it won’t be too long till the next time the space marines and tyranids are back at it. I’d love to see another tyranids vs space marines edition.
They were also in the Space Marine 2 cinematic and I'm unsure of release of trailers but Battlesector also had them in. I've seen the Tyranids the most but then again, I'm only starting now on this 40K journey.
this cinematic does a great job at showing the scale of 40k, Space Marines have been the poster boys of 40k since the beginning (the Ultramarines almost specifically), and this cinematic throws them into a war where they have no hope of winning. Guilliman knows that he's sending his sons to fight in battles where the vast majority, if not all of them, will not return, but he does it because it's expected of him, and it's causing him a lot of pain to do that to his sons, and i believe that his grief, anger, and frustration with the Imperium is shown quite well here. Aside from some of the same camera issues that you disliked, which i think summed up my problems with it, this is a pretty great cinematic. It does a decent job getting you to want to spend your life savings on small plastic men and paint for them. I don't think this one begins to have anything on the Horus Heresy cinematic, though, and it will probably be a long time before GW manages to one up that one, if they ever manage to.
I wish to see a fanmade video of Sanguinius's Speech on Eternity Door, with scenes of Guilliman trapped in the warp but doing his very best to reach Terra at full speed, Horus, turning from a WarMaster to a 5th God of Chaos, seeing sanguinius exalting his troops "Not because I can win, but because it is right!"
You can tell Guilliman is extremely stressed about everything. Man is the only loyalist primarch(in this trailer) alive and he knows he can’t do it alone. He was never the greatest duelist or commander, but the man excels with logistical issues. Hope the lion can break through imperium nihilus and finally reunite with Guilliman
I want to say also, this video has reminded me what initially drew me to subscribe to your channel. You're a real expert and your ability to communicate that knowledge is compelling, great job.
I quite like the hitting the ground hard and barely sliding ..it indicates the Tyranid had enough power to throw it ..but only that smal distance ..the arch of the fall leading itself to land him fully on his back instead of the shoulders and then back. Him not skidding so much shows the partnership between the power of the Tyranid and the actual weight of his armour....if anything ..it makes the Tyranids action more profound ...like the momentum and kinetic energy is arrested so quickly because of its weight .....if you are able to chuck a heavy enough irregular angled bolder with a machine ..you'll find that once it impacts with that kind of angle ..the surrounding impact site absorbs all that force rather than translating to torque and twisting momentum ...you're looking at it from a filmmakers lense ...I'm looking at it from a physics based understanding Though I agree will most if not all other comments
Given who Gulliman is i'd call it a voice of demigod :) Can't wait when GW puts a trailer up with Lion involved, to see how they incorporate their version of king arthur / lancelot into the wider narrative
I've never paid attenntion to it, but I've reallized thanks to you pausing and going frame by frame on the opening shot that Guilliman's sword tip doesn't actually touches the floor ; at first I thought it was because it bounced a bit, but when you look closely, you actually see the power field around the blade, so it does rest on the floor, just not the blade itself. Crazy detail.
It's not on the level of Astartes (for some reason), but it isn't bad. I 100% agree with you about the part with the Psyker Librarian looking Legoish. Also, super glad you mentioned how the lighting at the start wants you to look at the laurel. Once fans see the laurel, they immediately know this isn't a space marine but in fact Roboute Guilliman, primarch of The Ultramarines kneeling in front of The Eternity Gate underneath the palace. You also brought attention to the added detail shown in the dutch angel after the tyranid gets stomped that shows a banner saying "Blood Angels". This is shown at the same time the narrator (Roboute Guilliman) mentions that they routed the Tyranids at 'Baal'. Baal is the home planet of the Blood Angels space marines legion.
Thanks man! At first I was worried they would be too long so I'm glad to hear you're enjoying them. I'm also enjoying the process a lot more now as it's fun breaking them down and I can share my actual thoughts. Thank you checking out the video. KZ
man.... you better not start charging for these breakdowns..... So detailed, so info rich, damn mate.... I'm not an aspiring cinematographer but now suddenly want to learn more.... You're very talented, keep em coming mate... ps.. space marines have pain blockers hooked into their systems..
I'm no expert, but I also didn't like that 'double look' of Guilliman's at the end. PS. Pariah Nexus is a VERY good animation - approximately 60 minutes (on WarhammerTV)
There's no need for the double shot because the first one takes away from the second where his punch line is. Oh well. Guessing I can't share Warhammer TV content on TH-cam with you guys??
When the apothecary biologis gets slammed, I think he didn’t slide anymore than he did because of the gravis armour which is a very heavy armour. That’s just my take on it
I love your breakdowns. I came in when you did the Astartes video and stayed for how well you broke it all down and I really enjoy how you're starting to openly critique aspects of a cinematic. It's always great to hear both sides of what you think. Before I drop into it. The Blood Angels are another Space Marine group. And that Librarian did die. About the trailer itself - Roboute Guilliman (Primarch/Leader of the Ultramarines) who narrates the trailer is mainly speaking/reciting of the lies and falsehoods the Imperium tells it's citizens - where the trailer itself shows the true reality. Worlds being lost to both the Tyrannids and the Great Rift (Chaos). Guilliman at this point in the lore, while loyal to the Imperium is essentially a heretic due to what he knows about the universe and it's workings. He has nearly stopped spreading the Imperial rhetoric and has started talking of the realities of the Imperium which he does touch base on blatantly at the end of the trailer where he says: "Our people sing of victory. Victory, /as the galaxy burns/. Victory, /as the Imperium rots around us/. Victory, as humanity rages against the dying of the light. Victory... [as worlds are shown to be lost to the Tyrannids]"
I'm glad you're enjoying my videos, thank you for telling me. Now I'm making the content in this style, I can share my thoughts more and believe it or not, I'm enjoying the process more too. I've got a few more Warhammer ones to cover soon like armouring of a space marines and the Dawn of War series. Hope you enjoy those too. KZ
@@kaizammit Honestly, I've been enjoying all your breakdowns. The enthusiasm you show for the trade, the knowledge you have. It all makes for a good watch.
Hey Kai. You should 100% check out the WoW shadowlands cinematic since youve done a few WoW videos now. It sends chills down my spine everytime i watch it
Because warhammer miniatures are 30mm, real light don’t do much, you have to paint it on miniature. Darker paint for shade, almost white for edge highlights. That’s so many animators from warhammer hobby go hard on contrast
this trailer is very cinematic and gets the point across really well, the Tyranids being a huge threat :) the lighting is brilliant but can definitely see the animation being off at times, seen that with many Warhammer animations, official or fan made, characters dont move very naturally, especially when it comes to the Space Marines, either they make them too robotic or they seem too light, sometimes the motion is just really wonky...hopefully at some point you get to Death of Hope which is a great fan project, something a bit different to the rest with its focus on horror, Im really interested what you would say about that one mainly in regards to the animation :)
Space marines are not consistent within the lore, but a few takeaways are as such; they definitely feel pain but are so flooded with battle stimulants (their armour is full of needle sites and it auto-stims them to enhance battle performance) plus their method of selection and creation generally leaves only the most resilient alive in the first place. Remember they're taken from childhood and brutally trialled and tested, often to the point of death, then surgically implanted with 19+ new organs from the age of 13+ which again, most don't survive. Within the books they're often written as somewhat aloof beings who are aware of pain and fear to the point they "understand" it but don't necessarily feel it in the same way as a standard human would. They are after all post-human super-soldiers. I feel this is also why they were animated so clunky. Shit is hitting the fan and normal humans would be in full panic mode, but an Astartes sees it more like, "Well, I'm about to die in the next 5 seconds, better mag dump this thing as best I can so the next guy kills it." So the semi-robotic handheld camera is probably an attempt at uncanny behaviour through cognitive dissonance between what the audience expects but is currently witnessing.
So that man who is talking is the lord commander roboute guilliman pirmarch of the ultra marines (the blue armored space marines) and one of the first sons of the emperor to return to the imperium in its darkest hour
I also did feel it didn't work in some places, especially at the end when they show us one exact shot twice for some reason. If Blizzard team would get this job they'd nail it completely.
47:30 To a degree, but the pain tolerance is pretty much to the point they can shrug off a good deal. So would they throw up their head and cry out if impaled like that? No. If he didn't have the helmet on he'd probably have more of an angry/wincing/determined look to go along with the grasping of the talon hook.
They should make a lot of trenches, mine fields, dragon teeth, fire points, artillery in 3 echelons. No one tiranid never will go through Imperial Fists defence
Im total amateur when it comes to film making and directing. However, I do feel like that last shot of Guillimans face would have had much more dramatic feeling to it if he had closed hes eyes when saying victory for the last time.
Thank you fella! I've not heard of that one and I'll add it to the list. The list is pretty big now which is exciting. Thank you for watching and commenting. KZ
If you ever feel like doing a very long reaction (or spread between multiple videos), the halo movie Forward Unto Dawn is free on TH-cam and is about 1h30 in length. If you want something REALLY long (2h30), the 40k movie Helsreach is also available, albeit in different episodes. A movie version was created by a fan to make it watchable in one seating too.
Interesting watch, I was surprised that I made it through all of it, (given my disappointment with this trailer) thank you for your insight! Marines can feel pain just fine, it's just not conveyed very well here. I'm a massive fan of Tyranids but I can't help that feel that this cinematic is a step down (like 10th edition itself) from the 40k 9th edition cinematic with the Sororitas (and Astartes) vs Necrons. The realism and detail in that previous style is what brings the grit of 40k to the fore, IMO, not so much the slightly comic style of this animation; the plate armour looks nice but when you see the Marine officers with their bare heads they look odd and plastic, like they're toys. I don't want to see my models moving about, I want to see believable people, like the 9E & Space Marine 2 trailer, otherwise I feel like a step back from realism is aiming the whole shebang at kids instead. Basically this cinematic isn't specifically Marines vs Tyranids, it's explicitly the Marine models from the new Leviathan 10E box vs the Tyranid models from that box, Guilliman aside. Everything you see in that warzone is in the box GW released for 10th. The comic moment that you mentioned at 45:55 with the two large feeder-beasts is accurate to the lore; those two oinkers are Psychophages which are designed o hunt down and feed on psykers (which is a bit of an odd one given that psykers are still very rare in general) so they absolutely should've immediately sensed the Librarian and pootled off for their fresh lunch...but TBH if the moment was more comedic then that context wasn't made clear enough. Eh, I think that GW have an issue with quality control at the moment with the new edition of 40k as the hit & miss nature of this cinematic echoes the ruleset it's promoting, as a long-time GW fan I expected better on both fronts. That Terminator with the assault cannon & power fist should've wrecked that Shrike/Winged Prime as it basically pinned itself in front of him and that's exactly where you want something if you can hit it with a giant energised fist designed for smashing into fortifications and tanks (I'm also not convinced that a Shrike can rip a Terminator in half, even if it does look cool, but that's splitting hairs at this point. Yes, the Librarian was spectacularly useless but then he faced off against a Neurotyrant and powerful Tyranid leader-beasts are innately anti-psyker.by nature due to the aura they spread around them to control the lesser Tyranids. Kinda expected better from GW regarding quality.
Thank you so much for watching it all. I always expect viewers to skips to their favourite parts. I found the 9th edition (second half) do be more toy like than this one. The first half was gritty and beautiful all at the same time. This trailer could have easily had a horror vide to it if it wanted too.
Me too fella but I get that vibe. Probably why I like shooting at them. I know Space Marine 2 will be a day one purchase. Scratch that Aliens itch you know?
@@kaizammit "Another glorious day in the corps!" The one really cool thing about W40k does seem to be an expanded Aliens Universe with more extra terrestrials to battle other than bugs
And with each of them bringing a different style of threat. I really like the Universe and I should have got into years ago. Sounds like you should have too.
Great video. Take home message: Master light and add smoke or dust. Would love to see your reaction to Clear Skies I-III. It’s a fab-made mini series using the game Half-Life and mods. It’s brilliant.
Pretty much! That's how you master visuals or the visual narrative depending on the story it is. If you did that then you'd be a great cinematographer or dp aka director of photography.
Hey there Kai! there was a cinematic made recently for War Thunder by a content creator, it's "Air Superiority" by Pandramodo, I'd highly recommend watching it and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
It would be cool if you could react to the The Crew - E3 2013 - Announcement Trailer and Launch Trailer. They are two of my absolute favorite trailers and i would love to share these with you
Lore wise they can feel pain but they are trained and conditioned to be able to block it out and separate it to say the back of their minds. With them being terminators as well they are some of the best space marines out there that you’ll find so they are already probably used to pain and life threatening Injuries. Some one correct me if I’m wrong but with the timeline and the like I’m guessing they’ve all probably transformed into primaris marines anyway so have things like the belisarian furnace which further makes them feel less pain! For ref: 47:25 Always enjoy the breakdowns you do of videos for this universe that I absolutely love. :D
18:54 I agree. The first shot should have been a hit. In fact, I think there should be no mosses from space marines. It would set in the mind of the viewer the real threat is no on quality or superior enemies. The Tyranids' real threat comes from the fact that there are so many of them, that hitting all your shots is not enough. One bullet per enemy makes you tun out of ammo. Having the space marine shoot and hit every time, would drive home that point better than the the shot of the space marine bein buried by Tyranids. Then again, that shot of being buried would have driven the point home.
So understanding it from the lore ...the Tyranids reacting comically was supposed to be serious. Librarians can turn the tide of battle by themselves ...create walls of fire and split a creature like that hive tyrant with his mind ...The space marines were struggling ..they have had reinforcement ..the reinforcements are supposed to turn the tide of battle but as soon as they arrive they are overwhelmed ..... What the librarian's death is supposed to showcase ..it that even with the imperiums greatest space marines ..the battle is so lost ..as the opposition can just quench such density of resistance as easy as we would blow out a candle .... A librarian falling that easily is to showcase just how dire it is ..that there is no hope ..what can they do against such insatiable anger ....and this is just one xenos force
Alot of Warhammer lore is based on the Imperiums perspective. Painting Marines as demi-god like figures of war that rarely ever see casualties. While this is true in alot of circumstances. They are not invincible. Fighting forces much larger than any normal Imperial Guard could never hope to face. But they die in service just as any good human does.
Can you please take a look at the cinematic work in Loona's PTT (Paint the Town) music video? I know it's older, but TBH it's MILES ahead of any other k-pop music video. It's really a treat and I know you'll enjoy it.
@@kaizammit cool, I’d studied in photography and I know most of the things you talk about in your videos but I also learn somethings too and I enjoy your reactions and I look forward to your next video
A lot of people don't seem to realise that Guiliman, the narrator is speaking bitterly, that the claims of triumphs and victory are lies and propaganda. Glad your media literacy is better than that! This video has a lot of small details they didn't need to have, but add shades of meaning. The big door is the tomb of Sanguinius, Guilliman's brother. It symbolises the difference between the past and the present - Guilliman has been in stasis for a very long time, and the galaxy is a very different place to when he left it - he came from a time when he wouldn't have had preachers and propagandists lying about the circumstances from the pulpit, and the Imperium wasn't so rotten at the core. Sanguinius, dead and entombed and depicted as a saint, when he and Guilliman fought against ignorance and susperstition for a secular golden age. Very bitter, which explains his expression. This adds tone to the narration - he's not just complaining the war is going badly, he's bemoaning his civilization has rotted from the inside without him, and the lies and ignorance he has to put up with because they're commonplace now, and he's too busy putting out fires. Maybe the shot of the Marine missing his shot is meant to subtly show that things aren't maybe going as well as they could. I agree about the animation, particularly the smaller Tyranids - they have gone for high fidelity representations of the models they selling, even if it precludes realistic movement. The first one we see dying looks very stiff in the jaw. The use of fog, darkness, and flames have been cleverly used to hide imperfections. I think the stable shots you dislike so much are to display the new models better - the new Dreadnought, the new Apothecary, so it's got the shakey, handheld feeling to tell the story, then goes stiffer so we can get a look at the products. The "AVP" moment is meant to be a homage to two famous pieces of 40k artwork, both depicting the Crimson Fists in their last stands - google Crimson Fists Last Stand and you'll see it.
I checked out that image on Google, very cool! I've not heard of that faction before. Regarding the opposite of the voice over, that's the beauty of it. That's what it's there for to give you that voice of god, another strand of narrative. It's great.
love the comment on how the space marines don't look human, which is sort of reflected in the lore where they are described as transhuman and many space marines veiw them selves as vastly superior to the "baseline human" so the comment to me describes exactly how little or in-human they are.
I work in investment banking and every one of these breakdowns makes me think I should have gone to film school. Completely agree on the motion and framing and I can’t help but notice every time it happens they want us to look at one of the new miniatures we’re about to get that has been rumored for months. There are multiple frames held steady just to show off the miniature we’re about to buy instead of just giving us a cinematic like The Horus Heresy. Is it a cinematic or an add? We saw these minis a minute later painted by ‘eavy metal and professionally photographed for context.
I would love to say it's never too late but since having kids and no time, it's hard to always be so positive. You can always learn it though and that's what I try to share with you. I think it's fine how they did it but the animation and camera motion was off putting. It should have been spotted in post production. Star Wars cinematics have a motion like this but they've nailed it and it fits the world. This should have been different but one that helps compliment the story and fits the 40K world. Maybe you're right, I never saw the models afterwards so this would be me looking at them for the first time so they could have deliberately chose that style of camera motion. Thank you for watching fella. KZ
@@kaizammit Agreed the motion seems to take me out of the story of a grim dark universe. But it’s only the 3rd trailer GW has produced in house so fingers crossed it keeps getting better. That said I still bought multiple of the 10th edition launch boxes so maybe it served its intended purpose. Keep up the amazing work man much appreciated from a 40K fan.
Compare this to the 9th, if it was the same in-house team, I'd be happy. They've definitely grown. Tbh with you, this cinematic worked on me! I want to buy me some kits.
@@kaizammit Progress but it does put it in perspective when the creator of astartes can make this as a teaser though. th-cam.com/video/4aTFVoAGQBI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uTpClspAYPtJOjZt
I know your the Professional but the reason He misses the shot the reason the space marines seem to die in troves in the animatic is because of the words Gulliman Says this isn't a story of heroes beating back the horde of evil, this is not a story of the heroic champions overcoming their enemy, this is a story of the dying of that light, the fall of the imperium, and the encroaching darkness. Gulliman is saying "We speak of victory while mankind dies... we are dying, we are losing, and faith that all will be well will not save us." If the space marines looked implacable unmovable and unstoppable it would lessen the message of his words. For in the Grimdark future of the 41st Millenia You can do nothing to stop the Dying of your light. (Also I know this response is really late to the party but thought I'd share my thoughts even if unwanted)
Yep. One thing that I felt wrong about this trailer is the bobble camera. It doesn't feel human, it felt more of a car than human shakiness. Imagine the dreadnought scene but with more shakiness as it stepped in closer. It would made the entrance more powerful +3 Anyways, please do a reaction and breakdown on "Warhammer 40k Armouring a Space Marine". It shows how even dressing these big guys are dramatic as well lmao Edit: The reason why the Space Marine feels like in control via the first half of the trailer is because they never felt fear. It's ingrained in their minds while being trained. The reason why the main Marine character moves swiftly is because he is wearing Phobos pattern power armor. Lighter and more agile variant of their armor. The Comedic relief you see when the two Bugs just looked at the Librarian is not as funny when you know what their purpose. They are specifically made to hunt down Psykers, eat them, use the mass they ate from the psykers and spew out spores that would weaken everyone (Or just psykers) that comes out on their back. Last but not the least. If you don't want things popping up on the last minute of the vid. Go to Warhammer's official YT channel and watch things there. Sadly, we can't find anything that would disable annotations. Unless there's a extension on the browser that I don't know of.
@@kaizammit Hi, Kaiza. Please look at the edit I made on the comment since I fully digested everything you said on the vid lmao It also answers your question about the annoying pop up shit that these channels do.
You’re absolutely right about the way Space Marines (and characters in general) are typically portrayed in GW’s animations. They look cartoonish to me. Imo the visual style should match the setting. Otherwise, like you said, it can ruin your immersion. About the one Marine missing his shots…yeah. It makes the Emperor’s greatest warriors look a bit less “great”. Awesome breakdown!
i have a recommendation for you, there is this wonderful series called destiny and i think it would be great if you could react to some cutscenes/music from destiny 1 or destiny 2! if i had to recommend some cutscenes it would be either the taken king or the red war cinematics, Thank you for your time!
They are humans but space marines dont move like humans. Their power armor is large and bulky. You wouldn't just be walking around like you're in running shoes and some swimming shorts. You're in multi-ton power armor and you're trying to stop your bulky uparmored legs from slamming into each other when you walk. It's going to look inhuman as their power armored suits try to interpret what their nervous system is telling to suit the space marine wants it to do. Its for a reason. Space marine thrive when moving at top speed. Not so much at slowly walking around a forest. It's how they're portrayed in pretty much anything visually. Space Marine II trailer. Dawn of War. 9th edition cinematic etc etc. It's on purpose.
Too bad that in the end galaxy will be consumed by Tyranids. Because i really do not see any other way for it to end with the way lore is currently. Tyranid numbers are immeasurable and we only seen a tiny fraction of them, with majority of their fleet still remaining outside of the Milky Way. They could wipe out humanity fairly easily, but Chaos is a entirely different matter. So far Tyranids and Chaos forces seem to engage of fairly equal footing. Irony is that Chaos needs mortals to worship it and Tyranids just want to eat everything. Im am not sure how their all-out confrontation would look like. Tyranids mentality makes them incompatible with Chaos corruption, or at the very least very resistant. And their adaptation power seem to exceed what Chaos could throw at them. Like when Tyranids engaged with Death Guard, with latter developing more and more potent toxins to fight former, eventually planet became so toxic that even slaves of Nurgle could not survive there. But Tyranids adapted... Not to mention that Shadow of the Warp could quite possibly allow Tyranids to seal Eye of Terror. Then there are Necrons, that are a huge pain in the ass for everyone and are completely "inedible" for either Chaos or Tyranids.
its cool and all of that, but after watching astartes... i have the feeling that this just looks old school, all characters are stiff as fck, ultramarines are supposed to be fast, deadly and resilient. i dont see that at any moment , so yeah... meh. i hope Henry cavill can beat this..
Yeah its one of the major flaws I've found with much of GWs animation. It's the 41st millennium and there is only shakey camera footage. I find it annoying.

Halo believe and halo reach trailer
Keeping in the 40K theme you should really check out the Spacehulk Deathwing trailers
You should consider doing some of the valorant cinematics. I don’t play valorant but I still love those cinematics.
Such great lore, I love it.
Close. That is actually the Silver Door found in the imperial palace on Terra, behind it is the room where the emperor sits on the golden throne
@@ihaveadigbick I was going to say that looks like the gate of eternity.
The voice acting for this cinematic is top notch! The despair and disgust in that final "victory" gives me goosebumps every time!
His delivery was very good. Totally cleaned up in post production to give it that extra pop.
Really, besides the guard, what race isn't op. good thing everyone isn't at their prime and/or can't work together.
The Horus Heresy one is insane as well
It's on the channel and I hope you enjoy it! It's what got me to like the Imperial Fists.
@@kaizammit boss you need to watch HELSREACH 😊
The contrast of the voiceover continuing to repeat ‘victory’ with the Astartes getting destroyed is amazing. Great breakdown as well. It’s crazy how much work and attention goes into these cinematics.
Imperium of Man is just a lie, pretty much. That detail was really cool, board turning red and he keeps repeating 'victory'...
That is what the preachers say, you can almost hear the contempt dripping from Guilliman’s voice, GW did a good job with this one
I felt this one had a good amount of close ups and wides. Thank you for the recommendation, I'll check that out. I like the title!
KZ
@@kaizammitthe third one is absolute masterpiece in my opinion (the trailer cinematic.. not the game :) ).
Side note, that sound you pointed out sounds like Mongolian throat singing, if my ears don't mistake me
Or something from the singer for Hellblade 2. I love that sound, it fits perfectly with this world too.
Excellent as always. I can tell you know your stuff and have endless enthusiasm to accompany it
Thank you so much for checking out the video and hanging out with me.
Thank you so much and it's fantastic to know you're enjoying the videos. Thank you for being here fella. KZ
From the first miniature anyone tries to paint we all repeat in our heads „contrast, light, shade, highlight”
I quite like the hitting the ground hard and barely sliding ..it indicates the Tyranid had enough power to throw it ..but only that smal distance ..the arch of the fall leading itself to land him fully on his back instead of the shoulders and then back.
Him not skidding so much shows the partnership between the power of the Tyranid and the actual weight of his armour....if anything ..it makes the Tyranids action more profound ...like the momentum and kinetic energy is arrested so quickly because of its weight .....if you are able to chuck a heavy enough irregular angled bolder with a machine ..you'll find that once it impacts with that kind of angle ..the surrounding impact site absorbs all that force rather than translating to torque and twisting momentum ...you're looking at it from a filmmakers lense ...I'm looking at it from a physics based understanding
Though I agree will most if not all other comments
Given who Gulliman is i'd call it a voice of demigod :) Can't wait when GW puts a trailer up with Lion involved, to see how they incorporate their version of king arthur / lancelot into the wider narrative
Really good cinematic and excellent detailed reaction. Excellent introduction to 10th edition.
Bruh I just noticed your door in the background. Thats a pretty neat shape.
6:08 The Face/voice reveal of Guilliman is mega big if you are 40k fan.
Really loving the longer breakdowns, keep up the great work!
The Exodite and Pariah Nexus are really nice and cinematic animated 40k shows on Warhammer+
@@kaizammit +
Sees G Man, is that Dorn? Somewhere Valrak is having an aneurysm…
When the apothecary biologis gets slammed, I think he didn’t slide anymore than he did because of the gravis armour which is a very heavy armour. That’s just my take on it
Hell yeah. a whole hour for a 40k reaction? i feel spoiled.
I hope I don't bore you haha. Thanks again for being here man.
I believe the last few Warhammer Cinematics, You can see the influence of Syama Pedersen, who made Astartes
you should take a gander at the really old Warhammer Fantasy trailers. they where good
Nice breakdown.. perhaps you could make a video of top 10 cinematics that you reviewed in 2023, should be fun
Hey Kai. You should 100% check out the WoW shadowlands cinematic since youve done a few WoW videos now. It sends chills down my spine everytime i watch it
Thats the thing, space marines are not humans well they were but noe their not
Because warhammer miniatures are 30mm, real light don’t do much, you have to paint it on miniature.
Oh really, it goes down the road of horror! Sounds like a treat for the eyeballs. Thanks fella! KZ
Nice reaction!!
Thank you!! Glad to hear you enjoyed it.KZ
I think that same guy who did Astartes worked on this one, and one with syster Danica (second best trailer ever made, after this one:)
Please do the darktide cinematics
The space marine didn’t miss, he was just shooting one that was out of frame.
Love your breakdowns! These are great. I d love to see your pov on th Age of Sigmar 3rd edition launch trailer as well. ❤
Thank you fella! I've not heard of that one and I'll add it to the list. The list is pretty big now which is exciting. Thank you for watching and commenting. KZ
There is a 4th ed. one out now even! you're getting behind haha.
More for me to watch, win, win!
Would you be interested in something like that from me? I couldn't break it down but would happily talk about it as I watch it.
@@kaizammit Absolutely!
Then I shall figure out a way. Leave it with me.
Hehe; "They're comin' outta the GD walls! Let's book!"
I'd be out of there mate spraying spit, pee pee and bullets!
@@kaizammit I've only ever dipped my toes into the Warhammer universe, are Tyranid's basically the Xenomorohs..?
Me too fella but I get that vibe. Probably why I like shooting at them. I know Space Marine 2 will be a day one purchase. Scratch that Aliens itch you know?
@@kaizammit "Another glorious day in the corps!"
The one really cool thing about W40k does seem to be an expanded Aliens Universe with more extra terrestrials to battle other than bugs

That's refreshing to hear, thanks man! My wife tells me I'm too expressive haha.
@@kaizammit It's genuine though, you can tell it is coming from enthusiasm for the cinematography and not reacting just for the sake of it.
It would be cool if you could react to the The Crew - E3 2013 - Announcement Trailer and Launch Trailer. They are two of my absolute favorite trailers and i would love to share these with you
I never been asked about a racing game before. That sounds super interesting. Thank you for the recommendation. KZ
For ref: 47:25
Always enjoy the breakdowns you do of videos for this universe that I absolutely love. :D
Don’t get me wrong though there are shit loads of points where space marines shout out in pain in the books.
This, and those backpacks (built into terminator armour) pump them full of drugs so they notice it less and can fight through more.
Wow, loving the lore. Thanks.
18:54
I agree.
*hunger
Alot of Warhammer lore is based on the Imperiums perspective. Painting Marines as demi-god like figures of war that rarely ever see casualties. While this is true in alot of circumstances. They are not invincible. Fighting forces much larger than any normal Imperial Guard could never hope to face. But they die in service just as any good human does.
Can you please take a look at the cinematic work in Loona's PTT (Paint the Town) music video? I know it's older, but TBH it's MILES ahead of any other k-pop music video. It's really a treat and I know you'll enjoy it.
Victory!
For the Tyranids right?
you need to reacto to both Pariah Nexus trailers from 40k they are awesome
I'll check them out! Thank you for the recommendation. KZ
Astartes is leagues above this in terms of attention to detail and realism.
That was a planet that got absorbed.

@@kaizammit cool, I’d studied in photography and I know most of the things you talk about in your videos but I also learn somethings too and I enjoy your reactions and I look forward to your next video
so what are you gonna say this time? like pacific rim? like doom? or maybe like "shangchi" and how to make this different?
You'll have to watch and find out. KZ
Now this is Warhammer 40k.
It's great.
Even though this amination was made for minifigures this is an amazing cinematic made by Warhammer
It's very good and quite a step up from the last one. They are both different in their own way but I could see an improvement overall. KZ
love the comment on how the space marines don't look human, which is sort of reflected in the lore where they are described as transhuman and many space marines veiw them selves as vastly superior to the "baseline human" so the comment to me describes exactly how little or in-human they are.
You call it catchment ..we call it highlighting

The Avenging Son
Also Forgot to specify this is specifically about the comment at around 18:00 of the video
Yep. One thing that I felt wrong about this trailer is the bobble camera. It doesn't feel human, it felt more of a car than human shakiness.
Imagine the dreadnought scene but with more shakiness as it stepped in closer. It would made the entrance more powerful +3
Anyways, please do a reaction and breakdown on "Warhammer 40k Armouring a Space Marine". It shows how even dressing these big guys are dramatic as well lmao
Edit: The reason why the Space Marine feels like in control via the first half of the trailer is because they never felt fear.
Exactly what I said! Great minds think alike. Dawn of War and Armouring are coming so keep an eye out. Thank you for checking out the video.
@@kaizammit Hi, Kaiza. Please look at the edit I made on the comment since I fully digested everything you said on the vid lmao
It also answers your question about the annoying pop up shit that these channels do.
The cam angle can be written off as a Servoskull doing the recording.
I actually got that reference! Does that mean I can call myself a fan now?
The browser extensions "Unhook - Remove TH-cam Recommended Videos" can be used to disable the end screen cards/annotations.
I love the way they show stuff....is fubar
You’re absolutely right about the way Space Marines (and characters in general) are typically portrayed in GW’s animations. They look cartoonish to me. Imo the visual style should match the setting. Otherwise, like you said, it can ruin your immersion.
About the one Marine missing his shots…yeah. It makes the Emperor’s greatest warriors look a bit less “great”.
Awesome breakdown!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for checking out the video.
well that's the point of the video lol it's made to portray the imperium as not so great.
i have a recommendation for you, there is this wonderful series called destiny and i think it would be great if you could react to some cutscenes/music from destiny 1 or destiny 2! if i had to recommend some cutscenes it would be either the taken king or the red war cinematics, Thank you for your time!
Cool
Hope you enjoyed the video regardless of how much or which part you watched. Thanks for watching, KZ.
Dwoop candlewax.
He missed because hes too cool to wear his helmet, which wouldve helped him aim better :P
I like that reason! It's a good excuse. KZ
its cool and all of that, but after watching astartes... i have the feeling that this just looks old school, all characters are stiff as fck, ultramarines are supposed to be fast, deadly and resilient. i dont see that at any moment , so yeah... meh. i hope Henry cavill can beat this..
Yeah its one of the major flaws I've found with much of GWs animation. It's the 41st millennium and there is only shakey camera footage. I find it annoying.

Sick display picture. KZ
@@kaizammit True. Thanks :-)
He looks like Shane Dawson
The reason the marine missed his first shot is because he’s a primaris marine 😂 if he was a first born Marine, he would have hit his shots 😊

Guilliman is shit and so is Nu-40k
