Witcher 3 Cinematic’s are some of the best I have ever seen. A ton of people would love to see you do them I’m sure of it. As a side note when breaking down a night to remember (one of the cinematics) pay attention to the lyrics, a lot of reactors miss that.
Greater Terran Union stellaris invicta from The Templin Institute. they make story from game play. pretty interest i hope at least try Prologue it is most ten minute each
There are more of these Star Wars trailers! One more for the old republic, then one for knights of the fallen empire and one for the eternal throne. Would love to see a Star Wars fan react to these too!! Love your work
25:37 This is before the establishment of the rule of two so there's a lot of Sith in the galaxy. There are even multiple sith fighting each other for the title of emperor and forming their own groups. But you'll see more of that in the next cinematics :D
They need to go back to that. Rule of two is stale. They need to jump into the future and few hundred years, and pray fans forget the sequel trilogy ever happened. Maybe in the year 2035, put it on the shelf for another decade
if someone is still reading this a year later and you want to look deeper into the lore of the Sith especially the rule of two, the Darth Bane novel trilogy (also available on audio book at audible and other retailers) is really really good and definitively worth a read/listen.
The soldiers here are aren't clones, they're regular people. Clones are introduced in Attack of The Clones and these cinematics take place roughly 3,000 years before the movies. If I had to guess the reason they look so similar to Clone Troopers is purely for the familiarity factor of giving you something to relate with if you saw the movies before watching this. For the in-universe reason, the sith and republic constantly took inspiration from Mandalorian armor designs to design their own armor/military with.
exactly, a lot of tech and overall design came from Mandalorians so it wouldn't be crazy to have some similiarity in design of these soldiers and clones.... and as you said, it's important for them to make it so that even average player and not crazy fans, can recognize sides, characters and be able to get right into the universe. I'd say they did great job
The helmetless republic trooper in the trailer is Jace Malcolm, and he was also in the last trailer, losing his helmet in an explosion (which gave the smuggler his time to shine on-screen as Jace was recovering in the background). He was referred to by the smuggler as "Corporal", and since this is taking place years after that trailer - you can see at 1:33 he has a special shoulder pauldron to signify his new higher rank as the commanding officer of Havoc Squad (the specific unit in this trailer). If that wasn't enough info, the Jedi is Satele Shan, she and Jace Malcolm are together and had a child named Theron Shan.
Oh... Naughty. When I saw his face I just thought oh he's a clone trooper, he looks a lot like that actors face. Then again as it's been pointed out, this was way before the clones.
@@kaizammit Yup, this game takes place around 3,000 years before the movies. These troopers are just men and women enlisting in the military and becoming battle hardened through fighting Sith and Imperial soldiers on a near daily basis. They'd give the clone army a run for their money imo.
16:22 - That dude, even more than the Trooper leader, was a large part of why I went Republic Trooper Vanguard for my first character starting in the Beta and going forward. I don't know how much of a gamer you personally are, but this short spoke to my Tank heart. It takes a certain kind of crazy to want to be the guy that jumps into a situation, finds the biggest threat, and challenges it to a fight.
The Old republic cinematics get better and better with each one. The next one in the series is called "deceived" which is amazing. Funnily enough the deceived trailer which is last one for the base game was acutally the reveal trailer for the game, before the Return and Hope. The original release order for the trailers was the Deceived, Hope and then the Return, but in the games timeline its The Return, Hope and Deceived. Blur studio's who made this, are some of the best CGI trailer studio's right up there with Blizzard. Blur Studios are responsible for the CGI for, The old Republic, Halo 2 and Halo wars, The Elder Scrolls online trailer movie, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War intro. They also helmed netflix's Love, Death and robots series. Love your reactions, i have made few animated projects in 3ds max for fun and therapy. Wish i had your eye for all the little details.
That's a really interesting release order. Halo Wars 1 and Dawn of War 1 are coming soon so I've got a lot of exciting videos coming your way. That's awesome that you're making some animation and it's important to be creative if you have that spark. You'll have to show me sometime.
blur studio also worked on marvel movies, deadpool, and bunch of others. But they did start with CGI trailers and they are best people at it. They always understand game they making trailer for.
4:22 - The Force. She's basically doing a very, very localized Force Push in a way that's rare to see and hard to do. Her ancestor, Bastila Shan (from the first Knights of the Old Republic game, 300 years before the MMO) was also unusually gifted with the Force, able to do a power called Battle Meditation (it links in an entire side and provides synergy.)
The force power she’s using is called Tutaminis which absorbs/dissipates the energy. While it was a common ability that all Jedi were taught, it was really hard to actually block blaster bolts and lightsaber blades. Examples of Tutaminis are: Yoda blocking force lightning from Count Dooku and Emperor Palpatine in episodes 2 and 3, and Darth Vader blocking the blaster bolts from Han Solo in episode 5
@@CommanderBly5052 Thank you for the in depth breakdown. I tried to keep it as simple as possible for someone without the same context, but your reply giving examples helps a lot and gives someone who wants to dig down a place to start with the exact Power name.
That establishing shot of Alderaan, is also symbolic, as it's showing how the Republic is the light in the galaxy and the Sith Empire, represents the darkness.
Kai she stopped it with the force, if you look at Malgus's face when he goes to stab her you can see the brief look of shock or surprise on his face. Also thanks for more of these Star Wars cinematics, they really are something ❤
I thought so but I did the standard oh no! Simple body blocking, gets me every time. Haha. More Star Wars to come so you're in for a treat. That's if you enjoy these videos that is. Funny enough, currently playing Jedi Survivor this very second.
I'm loving it currently, I've not played a game like this for a very long time and it's made me fall back in love with Star Wars. Even smashed through Ahsoka this week. Currently just got the force dash so Christ knows how far I am.
@@loganobrien8087 I've heard of that. Someone actually asked me to react to the opening or the trailer for it. Was it you? Is it worth checking out for the channel....
What i really love about your reacts is that you first watch the whole video and react without breaking the videos flow and then after break it down. I really hate it if creators watch the video first time and then constantly stop to talk over what they see and potentioally ruin the flow of emotions you are supposed to get for the full running video
I hate those too! I have to see it how it was originally designed and want to feel what the filmmakers want me to feel. I'm glad you like the way I do it, thank for being here fella. KZ
12:09 - I've seen these short films dozens if not over a hundred times and it wasn't until this breakdown that I really fully appreciated the significance of the movements. By breaking usual convention by multi-axis movement in each slice of time and jumping days between shots in seconds it really grabs the viewer and throws them along the course of this "lightning war." Likewise the peace, then the troop formation on the plains and then the single file progression through a flaming scene. Very strong and historical connotations for each of those type of movements.
Thanks for reacting. I have these cinematics saved on an external drive so I can rewatch them sometimes. Some of the best star wars story telling since the original trilogy. Better trilogy than the new disney stuff too.
I'm really enjoying these and looking forward to seeing the rest. These are definitely better and the Jedi move like Jedi. I finished Ahsoka yesterday and I moaned with every light saber battle.
Malgus is such gigachad! He survived this, with no unbroken bone catched evac shuttle, threatened pilot to land just to kill 2 Jedi with 2 padawans and only then got treatment
Lorewise, the rule of 2 did not become a thing until thousands of years after the Old Republic era. Right now, there are armies of sith and jedi all over the place. It is glorious. Great video!
Fyi: the cinematics you're watching take place more than 3,600 years before the events in the Star Wars films. during this time there are essentially two superpower galactic "nations at war over control of the galaxy as a whole the titular 'old republic' (though to them in current obvi) and the Sith Empire, the latter ruled by the Sith (who were a species as in Malgus' master from the first cinematic), yes the ships at the end are the republic ones, and the troops on both sides are just patriotic troops like today's military, fighting to keep the enemy at bay(or conquer the galaxy respectively) hope this helps!
18:22 - I think they wanted to represent the frenetic, kinetic side of this part of gameplay - a PvP warzone (as opposed to a more formalized and smaller scale Arena match.)
3:47 - Yes, from the sort of prelude/announcement trailer of Return to Hope and the launch of the game the face of Satele Shan got some significant changes and upgrades.
5:16 - Indeed! What they're doing is establishing the Class leaders for each Faction. Master Satele Shan ends up leading the Council, the trooper ends up being of extreme importance to the Trooper storyline, Darth Malgus is important in the Sith class storylines, etc.
The Jedi is Satele Shan, the Republic soldier is Jace Malcolm, and the Sith is Darth Malgus. All 3 were in the Return trailer. Shan and Malcolm have a son together, Theron Shan. Satele used a Force ability called Tutaminis to absorb Malgus' lightsaber, the same ability Yoda used to absorb Darth Sidious' Force lightning in Revenge of the Sith.
Her name is Satile Shan, she used 'Tutaminis', to block the light saber hit from Malgus. usually used to block blaster bolts but I guess she was very very good with it.
The next one - ‘Deceived’ - is fantastic, but there’s also a few more that we’re made afterwards, ‘Sacrifice’ and ‘Betrayed’, which follow a different story. And finally, ‘Legacy of the Sith’ brings back Malgus, the main South in the last two cinematic. Highly recommend these three to watch in future.
This is set hundreds or thousands of years before Star Wars Episode 1 so The Sith Rule of Two would not Exist yet. Darth Bane created The Rule of Two, in response to what he viewed as inevitable, self-destructive infighting within the Sith Order. There was infighting between members of the Sith Order each one wanting more and more power and control over the Sith, they were technically exterminating the Order themselves from the inside, instead of focusing on fighting the Jedi
I particularly like how the damage of the granade he set off in his hand is depicted. Like Jace (the trooper) got damaged mostly on his right side of his body as he set it off in his right side. And Malgus got damaged on the left side of his body more as it detonated more on his left side.
One thing I noticed is that when the Sith Fighters screech past the screen, it’s a single shot. The camera pans around the fighters and even past them, you can still see some dark trees in the back, as they fly toward the Sith invasion force. Absolutely amazing
34:25 You say that running scene is first time we see her using double ended lightsaber in this video, but we also see it in previous video and just before she starts running we see her spinning the lightsaber with one side already on before she ignites the other side at 3:20 and I think that is actually really well made reveal of light saber. It does show that she wields double-bladed lightsaber, but it doesn't really make big deal out of it making it main thing even when it is in the middle of the screen. It is almost teasing viewer first that you see her wielding lightsaber with quite long hilt and then it pans to hilt when she ignites the other side. It also reminds me how in Episode one we see Darth Maul wielding double-ended lightsaber first time in Star Wars, but in first time we see his lightsaber on he only uses one side and gives some viewers this nice tease that his saber is "Unique" from what we have seen before.
Great content Kai! I caught your Astartes vid and thought you did a fabulous job analyzing and also authentically enjoying and being engaged. Your content continues to be excellent, and I appreciate that you seem comfortable acting as a subject matter expert that isn't afraid to treat us like intelligent adults while keeping things accessible. Liked and subbed, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much fella! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and the peek behind the curtains to filmmaking. It's an honour to have you subbed and I'll do my best to bring you the video breakdowns you want to see. KZ
On the topic of worldbuilding: the soldier mentioned in the beginning that this is Alderaan. The planet that gets blown up by the Death Star a few thousand years later.
1:34 - Well spotted and remembered! Yep, that's Darth Malgus from Return! Likewise the first Trooper was the one escorting the Smuggler and Satele Shan (the Jedi survivor from Return).
32:52 - Brilliant catch here, because while the would-be executioner IS important enough to have two guys holding up his would-be victim, he had to wait until the big boss got his kill, and then when it is his turn we have the Sith still fully armored and wearing his cowl and helm - says the executioner still feels threatened.
The Old Republic takes place long before the Rule of Two was implemented, so there are a TON of Sith Lords everywhere. That's ultimately what led to their fall with all the infighting and power grabs, which is why Darth Bane created that rule to stop it from happening again, but also to preserve the Sith for future endeavours. And yes, that is Darth Malgus and Satele Shan, as well as the same Republic Trooper, Jace Malcolm, from the first one. Players could be Jedi Knights, Jedi Consulars, Troopers, and Smugglers (on the Republic side), or Sith Warriors, Sith Inquisitors, Bounty Hunters, or Imperial Agents on the Imperial side, so they were also given representation in the cinematics, rather than just focusing on the Jedi/Sith.
@@kaizammit wonderful breakdown, it's crazy how something as simple as light and camera movement can make the difference between watchable and memorable. Shows just how much time and effort goes to making these gems. How could you disappoint with such articulated analysis kai. I lived every second
Happy new year everyone! and as I know there's a lot of bad out there and hope to help counter it with good, I just want to start the new year off with sincere thanks and love for all you do and remind you that you are awesome, and we appreciate you!!!
The game was a (story-driven) MMO like World of Warcraft, and each side had more or less 4 mirrored classes you could play as which the main characters in the trailers reflect. Every class had two subclasses to choose from, one was always a damage dealing subclass, the other was either tanking damage or healing depending on your class. The Republic had: Smuggler, Scoundrel/Gunslinger (Healer) Trooper, Commando/Vanguard (Tank) Jedi Knight, Sentinel/Guardian (Focused on Lightsabers, Tank) Jedi Consular, Sage/Shadow (Focused on Force powers, Healer) And on the Imperial side: Imperial Agent, Operative/Sniper (Healer) Bounty Hunter, Powertech/Mercenary (Tank) Sith Warrior, Juggernaught/Marauder (Focused on Lightsabers, Tank) Sith Inquisitor, Assassin/Sorcerer (Focused on Force powers, Healer)
18:30 I think the thing they were going for keeping the camera in tight like that was so that you didn't see the Republic trooper coming from the Sith's perspective, so that we get the sense that the Sith aren't just all powerful wizards. That with a good tactic, they could be killed by regular Republic soldiers. Think like the opposite of the Darth Vader hallway scene from Rogue One. I'd say that goes for why they used pretty much all the tight close shots. They wanted you to feel like you were a soldier right in the middle of it and that you could be taken by surprise at any moment. Or at least that's how I saw it. Also, I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks it's kind of funny that I as a weirdly visually disabled person would be so interested in what is primarily a visual medium?? This event happened 2500 years before the events of the original Star Wars movie (A New Hope). Darth Bane (who invented the Rule of 2 won't be for another 1500 years. At this point there were thousands of Sith and Jedi.
25:47 The Rule of Two was made long after this cinematic takes place. It was when the Sith were thought to have gone extinct because theybwent from an empire to only Two people. Remember in the “Return” Cinematic Malgus Kills his master when his master is weakened in order to rise up in the empire. Well Later on a Sith named Darth Bane realizes the Sith will never get anywhere because you have 1000s of guys all fighting eachother and theyre expected to also fight the Jedi who are united. So the Rule of 2 was established to prevent massive infighting After The Old Republic takes place. Instead of A hundred people killing eachother and building their own armies of apprentices to kill political rivals, or sith rivals you have a Master who looks for someone to surpass and take his place if they are stronger. And an Apprentice who is trying to learn everything they can and ultimately betray their master to take their place and prove their strength.
All of these are far better than anything Disney-Wars has ever produced. Give these people control over the shows and movies. They'll at least respect the I.P.
33:33 - ...Y'know, I agree. Should have been a land from a jump, Force Blast, into a Force Speed charge at Malgus or something that converts the initiative and surprise into efficient and effective action.
25:26 - This precedes the Rule of Two by a very, very long time. This is the time of the return of the Sith Empire, that once controlled Korriban (as seen in Return). * Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is around 3956 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin, which is the end of the original Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope) * The Old Republic MMO is 300ish years after that, so around 3650 BBY * For most of the time from that era until around 1030 BBY the Sith and the Jedi were around equal numbers with ups and downs and power swings, but always the Sith were hampered by their infighting and the Jedi just had to be patient and act when they Sith were fighting each other. * Finally as a huge confluence of events came together and the Jedi just about erased the Sith, Darth Bane decreed the Rule of Two as a way to stay strong and stay alive. There should be one to hold the power, and one to covet it. All of the dark side energy concentrated down to its purest quintessence. The only way for the Apprentice to take control was to kill their own Master. (This had happened a lot in the Old way of doing things, this as just a bit more formalized now.)
Great breakdown! The 'good guys' are the Republic, the Old Republic of the game's name, and yes their colours are white and orange, matching the soldiers' armour. There's a metanarrative too - we've seen the Sith Empire come in full force in Return, sweeping away all in their path, and in this video we see them begin to stumble - the victory is hard won, but it *is* a victory.
Something I found really interesting is that when Satele (the jedi) shows up the shot starts with the dutch angle and, as the force wave hit the camera, it gets shaken into a more horizontal orientation.
I feel like this one was the one that was made first. Cause of a lot of issues you've pointed out, they're still figuring stuff out you know? I've learned so much from this video though! Thanks a lot!
SWtOR as a game tells a story from 3800 years before E1 "The Phantom Menace". Thats why you see so much Sith and Jedi in the videos. I played SWtOR for a few years. The storytelling in the game for each class you can play is so nice and full of twists based on your choices made in the conversations with the npc´s. The power she (Satele Shan) uses is called from the "Tutaminis" skills, which is all about absorbing power. Like Yoda did against Dooku in E2 when Dooku threw lightnings towards Yoda and he absorbed them. Or against Palpatine in E3
So the Rule of Two comes into play after the collapse of the Old Republic, at that point in time the sith was rendered nearly extinct so it was implemented to let the image of the sith die while they plotted in secret.
Sorry about the wait and now with my new format, expect it much sooner. I'm also enjoying Star Wars at the moment as I'm playing Jedi Survivor so yeah, expect it within the coming weeks, not months. ✌🏻
@@kaizammitNice! I will say something of note in this one is that the first time Malcolm rushes Malgus he does so with a knife, but the second time he does it with a detonator, so it’s a bit of development of character that change in tactic
thank you for the great reaction! if you liked this one you should definitely check out the next two trailers "deceived" and "betrayed", those def brought it to the next level
After watching the Halo and Overwatch reactions, I was going to recommend these cinematics! Glad to see you found them! Also, you definitely deserve more subs, I don't ever subscribe to channels even after months of watching but subbed to you after one video. Keep it up!
Great reaction! It is very interesting to see your detailed reaction to the films Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope and others. These are cool classic movies 👍🔥
40:24 yeah It's was going to kill both, but Satele (the Jedi) was the one who actually used the force to make it weaker, because she didn't want Jace (the soldier) to sacrifice himself.
@@kaizammit I don't really remember if it was told in the game or if I read as a fan fic or fun fact somewhere... It has been some years since I last played, but even if it's not official, it makes sense to me. The grenade is the same that is used at 15:40, and Jace was going for the kill. However, if you pay attention, the explosion is white like if it was a stun grenade, but it clearly wasn't since it damaged both Malgus and him. So what I remember reading is that Satele basically supressed the explosion with the force, because (Spoilers?) her and Jace are lovers (of course, in secrecy, because the Jedi don't allow it), and she didn't want to lose him.
All three of the main characters in this cinematic were in the first one. In the case of the soldier, he is the one that survives, uses the heavy weapon to drive off the troops after the smuggler's pistol bit and catches Satele Shan (the Jedi master here - she was an apprentice in the first one) when she jumps for the spacecraft's ramp. I believe the difference you are spotting in her character design is to denote the difference in age and experience as there is an in universe time gap between these story clips (I believe this war is supposed to last about 40 years on and off).
This game is set ±3000 years before “A New Hope” The Soldier we follow is called Jace Malcom. If you go back in the first cinematic, he's the soldier that makes it out with the Cowboy and Satele (or the Jedi). Malgus... I don't have enough IQ to count how many times you face him...
I know someone already commented on this, but this was during the time of the Sith Empire (Not the Galactic Empire made by Sidious.) There was the Sith Council and the Sith emperor, which was the ruling body of the Sith empire. Satele Shan is the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order at the time of this cinematic (or soon after) and she is the Padawan from the first cinematic. The main Republic commander in this cinematic is also from the first cinematic, he was the soldier that escaped with the smuggler and Satele and is one of the playable classes for the republic alongside the smuggler class and the two different Jedi classes, which is why he had so much focus in this cinematic as he "represents" some of the players' characters.
She stopped the lightsaber with the force and her hand. at the time of this games release only three Jedi lines had the power to absorb and redirect energy - Skywalker, Horn and Revan. Bastila is Revan's grand daughter.
in the first trailer (Return) Satil is 12 years old, Malgus is 19. In the second trailer (Hope), they are already 36 and 43 years old, in the third (Deceived) Malgus is 47 years old. And in the latest trailer (Disorder) Malgus is already 70-80 years old
If you've seen Revenge of the Sith before its the only other time that Tiutaminus (stopping something with the Force with your bare hands) is used, Yoda uses it to absorb/repel Sidious' lightning, its an incredibly rare and powerful ability, very very few Jedi have been able to pull it off throughout all of Star Wars history
3:00 This is old republic, at the time there were whole jedi vs sith battles. Waay before rule of 2 was created (by Darth Bane, i recommend his story a lot, as much as im 100% light side guy, i really love his character and story and how he alone from miner became a sith lord :D ) Also many of them were much more powerful than what we saw in the movies. Lot of factors inlucences it but mainly a lot of knowledge was lost and partly the order/siths simply degraded during many battles/wars/catastrophies 4:15 Yes, this is with her own hand, it's not easy skill anyone could do, but it (was) possible for jedi to stop the lightsaber like that. I believe this is similiar power (if not the same) that what Yoda used in the movies to stop Palpatines electricity Overall great breakdown once again! There are couple of "filmmaker reacts" on youtube, even with videos about swtor trailers, but i feel you are the only one who actually go that deep and explain everything. Keep the awesome work and how this is not the last SW content! :D
Thank you!! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the videos and nope, there is more Star Wars coming and I won't leave it months like I did this time. I very much enjoyed reading your comment. Thank you. KZ
There's a fair chance the audio mix issue is related to TH-cam's audio compression. It's long been known to result in pretty flat audio. And compression in general tends to flatten out sound levels.
Great video, I was waiting for this one. I would say is maybe watch the full cinematic first without pausing and then break it down? I just like seeing the initial first time reaction as well. Looking forward to the other Old Republic cinematics!
Thanks fella! I normally start the reactions from 30 seconds to a minute into the video. The breakdown starts after that. I don't like reaction channels when they stop it every few seconds so I made sure I never do that. Glad to have you here.
I'm not going to leave it so long like I did between return and hope so expect it soon. I wonder if it will be my favourite too. Guess we'll find out. KZ
There was 6 years of war between the first two trailers. Then 6 more years before the third. So yes Jace, Malgus and Satele age and change between them, from rookies to leaders.
These Cinematics revolve around a few main "Hero" Characters from the Old Republic. Satele Shan (the female Jedi), Jace Malcom (The Elite Soldier) and Malgus the False Emperor. You come across, answer to, or fight with each of them (or their Families) SWTOR is an amazing story experience. Kai I am really enjoying watching you react to some of the cinematics that have brought me joy for so many years, and then break them down with your skills. Cheers mate. and I look forward to you watching the others.
Thank you fella and I'm glad you're enjoying the breakdowns. I love this stuff and I'm happy I get to share it with anyone who wants to listen. Thank you for being here.
Yep, that's Malgus once more. He appears in a couple more cinematics, steadily incorporating more cybernetics as time goes on. The female Jedi is Satele Shan, and she becomes the Grandmaster of the Jedi Order before the events of the game take place. The badass trooper is Jace Malcom, a member of a Republic special forces unit known as Havoc Squad. Essentially, they're the best of the best.
What Satele did blocking the lightsaber was use a very rare force power called tutaminis. Its basically force absorption. You see the same thing in Empire Strikes Back when Han shoots Vader in Cloud City. Satele, Vader, Yoda and Luke all used that force power. As well as Coran Horn in the Expanded Universe now Legends. The giant force push that Satele did after was releasing all the engery she was absorbing from the lightsaber. Had she held it long enough she could have drained Malgus's lightsaber and killed its power source.
This is set before the rule of two, the main characters are Darth Malgus & Satele Shan. Satele was holding Malgus' saber with the force, kinda like how Yoda deflects lightning without a saber.
Your breakdowns are interesting. The camera movement also reflects the types of fighters. For the soldier, war is chaotic. The camera shakes. For the Sith its violently moving as they fight. But for the Jedi it is calmer. And more smooth, reflecting the Jedis calm and trust in the Force
So, here's the lore on this one. Set in 3,667 BBY, this trailer depicts the Battle of Alderaan- a conflict in which the Jedi Order retakes Alderaan, which is occupied by the Sith Empire (not to be confused with the later Order of the Sith Lords). 2:40 Actually, that's the typical strength of Force Lightning. It's strong, but nowhere near as strong as Palpatine/Darth Sidious' Force Lightning. 2:55 Prior to Darth Bane's founding of the Order of the Sith Lords in 1,000 BBY, the Sith numbered in the hundreds to thousands, similar to the Jedi Order. But then Darth Bane created the "Rule of Two," the rule that forbid there from being more than two Sith at a time: a Master and an Apprentice. The logic was that if the apprentice grew stronger than the master, then each successive master would be stronger than the previous one, and would eventually become strong enough to topple the Jedi Order (and eventually, this is indeed what happened). 3:25 Satele Shan. She was the apprentice in the "Return" trailer. She is a Jedi Knight by this point in time. Also, she's a descendant of Bastila Shan and Darth Revan (a Jedi who became a Sith, then returned to being a Jedi). 4:00 No. Satele was a practitioner of Form IV: Ataru (the aggression/acrobatic form), the same form specialized in by Yoda and Ahsoka. Malgus' form looks a lot like Form V: Djem So (the ferocity/perseverance form), which relies on being massively powerful. Satele is fast, but her form (which utilizes a saberstaff) forces her to remain at mid-range and attack with a specific speed and pattern. She was easily knocked off of this pattern by Malgus' brute strength (which is why Satele backed off for a moment before re-engaging). 4:15 Satele was able to resist the lightsaber with her hands with a force ability called Tutaminis (the same ability Yoda used to absorb Darth Sidious' Force Lightning in Revenge of the Sith, except Jedi of this ancient era could use the ability to a far higher degree/proficiency than Jedi of Yoda's time). 4:50 This force ability is called Force Burst. It's basically a supercharged Force Push.
Yeah... I like how our Villain in these video's takes damage and evolves as the cinematics go on. Though if I recall correctly, they were released in reverse order. You are most fortunate to watch them in the proper order first time around.
I am loving the Star Wars and Blizzard cinematic breakdowns. Such thought and detail you put into it, explaining all the technical aspects that go into making these movies. It is so fascinating that you are able to explain the reasoning so perfectly as to why I love these cinematics (that I was oblivious to when watching them). I like reaction videos, but your breakdowns are on another level. As an aside to the rule of two thing, others have already said the Old Republic was well before the Rule of Two became a thing. Darth Bane realised the Sith kept on losing because many weaker Sith could gang up on more powerful Sith, making them overall weaker in the long run. So he basically arranged to eliminate every Sith but himself, then took a young apprentice to begin the Rule of Two era.
I'm glad to have you here and thank you for letting me know you're enjoying the videos. I'll look at the next one very soon as I'm proper into Star wars again thanks to playing Jedi Survivor. I've got more blizzard to come too. Depending on how the poll goes on my Patreon, you could get one next week.
Playing a Vanguard Trooper in the original release of Star Wars: The Old Republic was one of my favorite MMO experiences of all time. It felt like they hit all the right notes with the overall theme of the class campaign (well, outside of the last chapter, but that was pretty crap for most classes, unfortunately), with how utilitarian and "uncool" the Trooper's starship was, with *most* story companions... But above everything else, there's something magical about playing a non-Force user badass in a world of Force users. I'll never forget the first time I smashed a lightsaber user in the face with the stock of my rifle. Can't top that :D.
You should do the old Republic cinematic "sacrifice" it's even more of this and the first one. Its more personal too. Its a shame we cant get starwars movies like these :(
18:20 Mate, its a pissing man/a soldier without fore ability absolutely bodying a Sith Acolyte That level of storytelling and moment resonated with me to when i first joined the military and felt like Damn, i gotta be That cool A wide shot might have gone well, but you have so much complexity and beautiful moments happening in that short sequence, including the troopers behind, that I feel a wide would have lost some of that impact and magic. It grounded it on a personal level for me as a viewer at least
That's awesome to read. I'm glad you connected with it. They could have used a wide originally and then thought exactly what you typed and changed it back. You never know unless you're in the room. Cutting room that is.
You mentioned something particularly interesting, namely, the so-called "blink shot" The reason you didn’t see Malgus blink his eyes until the last second is because blinking is often regarded as a sign of empathy, proving deep down, you are human, you have emotions, and that you care. Malgus is a Sith. It is rare, albeit not completely unheard of, to meet a Sith who has any sort of empathy, emotion, compassion, or respect for anyone but themselves. So the blink shot did an amazing job depicting just how spiteful Malgus really was, but at the same time he had some level of respect and admiration towards Havoc Squad, at least in terms of skill.
It shows the intensity of him as a character and never take your eye of the prize in this case, the enemy. In Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, Director Edgar Wright deliberately made actors hold their blinks to ramp up the intensity. Little things like that go a long way in films. Very good. Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed the video. KZ
And you know the insane thing, after malgus gets kamahamaha’ed, he gets up and finds two Jedi in the area and proceed to kill them and a really Injured State
I'm certainly not an expert in any way but I feel like you may have explored all that CGI cut-scenes have to offer, any chance of diversifying into live action or other styles of animation?
You're totally right, I've covered one live action piece of content and loved it. I'm filming a live action film reaction next week as my first feature on the channel. Currently working out the format so stay tuned. KZ
🟠If you have a suggestion or a piece of content with an amazing story, please let me know, I would love to see it!

Witcher 3 Cinematic’s are some of the best I have ever seen. A ton of people would love to see you do them I’m sure of it. As a side note when breaking down a night to remember (one of the cinematics) pay attention to the lyrics, a lot of reactors miss that.
Never played the game but I love the cinematic for Elder Scrolls. Especially the one with the badass knight fighting the 3 main characters
Greater Terran Union stellaris invicta from The Templin Institute. they make story from game play. pretty interest i hope at least try Prologue it is most ten minute each
I recommend that you watch the rest of them in order. From the retake of korriban to the conflict of the new empire's twins (or they're sister)
Ahhh that makes sense and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks fella. KZ
Man I love how engaged you are in the reactions. Flows really well.
Thanks man and thank you for taking the time to check this video out. KZ
Like the phrase goes.
"Imitation is a most sincere form of flattery."
They'd give the clone army a run for their money imo.
oh man I didn't know that my boy bagged satele, what a chad
The SW:ToR cinematics existing is why i came to this channel ^^
Good thing I've got another four to go.
Blur also did work in the Deadpool movies
@@kaizammit Ooohh that game was awesome!
How are you liking it?
I'm loving it currently, I've not played a game like this for a very long time and it's made me fall back in love with Star Wars. Even smashed through Ahsoka this week.
Currently just got the force dash so Christ knows how far I am.
@@kaizammit Glad you love it!! I've been playing Baldurs gate a lot recently, there's soooooo much to do haha
This trailer is just Jace(The trooper) and Malgus(Sithy boy) fighting to see who can be the most injured by the end of it.
This comment made me laugh more than it should have.
Malgus is such gigachad! He survived this, with no unbroken bone catched evac shuttle, threatened pilot to land just to kill 2 Jedi with 2 padawans and only then got treatment
My favourite quote of all times "a single spark of courage can ignite the fires of hope"
Yes those ships at the end were Republic, the Empire had Star Destroyer style ships
One of the few channels where the reactions feel real and the breakdown/explanation usually teaches me something about film
I'll be covering them all so I 'HOPE' you 'RETURN' to check them out. I don't know if you'll get what I was doing there. KZ
All of the Old Republic cinematics are top tier. Like you said before they remind me what I used to love about Star Wars.
Me too!
Loving these long-form breakdowns! Keep it up!
I'm glad you're enjoying them! Thank you for being here. KZ
The elder scrolls online cinematics are pretty awesome, and of course the rest of these old republic trailers!
KZ
34:38 - Nice, yeah. Perfectly valid gripe and suggestion.
On the topic of worldbuilding: the soldier mentioned in the beginning that this is Alderaan. The planet that gets blown up by the Death Star a few thousand years later.
Dude, this planet has the worst of luck.
Good stuff! Been waiting for this
1:34 - Well spotted and remembered! Yep, that's Darth Malgus from Return! Likewise the first Trooper was the one escorting the Smuggler and Satele Shan (the Jedi survivor from Return).
Beautiful MASTERCLASS! Many thanks.
Let's GOOOOO!🎉 can't wait to see why I love this so much. Thank you in advance kai for making this experience even better
Thank you for watching and I hope I cover enough facts for you. You'll have to let me know if you enjoyed this one or did I disappoint!? Gulp..
@@kaizammit wonderful breakdown, it's crazy how something as simple as light and camera movement can make the difference between watchable and memorable. Shows just how much time and effort goes to making these gems. How could you disappoint with such articulated analysis kai. I lived every second
Thank you so much 😁
Happy new year everyone! and as I know there's a lot of bad out there and hope to help counter it with good, I just want to start the new year off with sincere thanks and love for all you do and remind you that you are awesome, and we appreciate you!!!
Happy new year fella! Keep creative.
The Republic had:
Smuggler, Scoundrel/Gunslinger (Healer)
Trooper, Commando/Vanguard (Tank)
Jedi Knight, Sentinel/Guardian (Focused on Lightsabers, Tank)
Jedi Consular, Sage/Shadow (Focused on Force powers, Healer)
And on the Imperial side:
Imperial Agent, Operative/Sniper (Healer)
Bounty Hunter, Powertech/Mercenary (Tank)
Sith Warrior, Juggernaught/Marauder (Focused on Lightsabers, Tank)
Sith Inquisitor, Assassin/Sorcerer (Focused on Force powers, Healer)
The tightening on the battle scenes give the sense of Claustrophobia and intensity of warfare, many WW2 movies do it I believe.
At this point there were thousands of Sith and Jedi.
i recommend reacting to all star wars cinematics in chronological order. they are so good. film worthy material!
* Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is around 3956 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin, which is the end of the original Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope)
* The Old Republic MMO is 300ish years after that, so around 3650 BBY
* For most of the time from that era until around 1030 BBY the Sith and the Jedi were around equal numbers with ups and downs and power swings, but always the Sith were hampered by their infighting and the Jedi just had to be patient and act when they Sith were fighting each other.
There's a metanarrative too - we've seen the Sith Empire come in full force in Return, sweeping away all in their path, and in this video we see them begin to stumble - the victory is hard won, but it *is* a victory.
i exited to your reaction to the third one of the cinematics! alle Kotor CInematics are awesome, a masterkind
Something I found really interesting is that when Satele (the jedi) shows up the shot starts with the dutch angle and, as the force wave hit the camera, it gets shaken into a more horizontal orientation.
Clever little things those camera angles. I'll have to check it out.
Ayyyyeee, you reacted to hope I'm glad, awesome reaction
Thank you for watching fella!
So the Rule of Two comes into play after the collapse of the Old Republic, at that point in time the sith was rendered nearly extinct so it was implemented to let the image of the sith die while they plotted in secret.
That's interesting. Work from the shadows. I like it.
The MC was in the first trailer too
Isn't Malgus in al three of the og trailers?( jk i know you talking about jace)
I’ve been waiting for this for months!
Keep it up!
Oh wow, thanks fella. This is my second Star Wars video so if you haven't seen that one, check it out. It is the old video format though. KZ
"Oh! It's um... I dunno her name" 😂
I'm trying to learn names but damn, it's difficult with all these franchises. 😂
Oh really!? I never saw her hands. Is it told later on in the game?
This game is set ±3000 years before “A New Hope”
The Soldier we follow is called Jace Malcom.
Honesty I can't wait to see your reaction to the next 2 cinematics called "Sacrifice" and "Betrayed". Both are masterfully crafted videos.
in the first trailer (Return) Satil is 12 years old, Malgus is 19. In the second trailer (Hope), they are already 36 and 43 years old, in the third (Deceived) Malgus is 47 years old. And in the latest trailer (Disorder) Malgus is already 70-80 years old
She was 12 in that! Wow, I didn't realise and that was a time jump. Yikes.
I am not sure what happened to the audio later in the video. But I think there were a few changes in the video after Star Wars was acquired by Disney
Okay, that's interesting. Thanks.
at the risk of sounding impatient, you HAVE to watch the rest of these lol, they're all amazing.
Hint taken! Haha

This is old republic, at the time there were whole jedi vs sith battles. Waay before rule of 2 was created (by Darth Bane, i recommend his story a lot, as much as im 100% light side guy, i really love his character and story and how he alone from miner became a sith lord :D )
Also many of them were much more powerful than what we saw in the movies. Lot of factors inlucences it but mainly a lot of knowledge was lost and partly the order/siths simply degraded during many battles/wars/catastrophies
4:15 Yes, this is with her own hand, it's not easy skill anyone could do, but it (was) possible for jedi to stop the lightsaber like that. I believe this is similiar power (if not the same) that what Yoda used in the movies to stop Palpatines electricity
Overall great breakdown once again!
Ahhh, that makes sense.
Great video, I was waiting for this one. I would say is maybe watch the full cinematic first without pausing and then break it down? I just like seeing the initial first time reaction as well. Looking forward to the other Old Republic cinematics!
I always watch the cinematic in full without stopping, then I break it down. My full reaction is at the beginning. Did you not see that?
Wow, I think I missed it somehow @@kaizammit 🤔🤔 Amazing video mate!
Thanks fella! I normally start the reactions from 30 seconds to a minute into the video. The breakdown starts after that. I don't like reaction channels when they stop it every few seconds so I made sure I never do that. Glad to have you here.
I legit can't wait for your analysis of the next trailer, "Deceived" - it's my personal favorite of these.
I'm not going to leave it so long like I did between return and hope so expect it soon. I wonder if it will be my favourite too. Guess we'll find out. KZ
You gotta keep doing the rest of the Old Republic cinematics
Been playing SWOTR for years but I just realized - it's Satele and Theron's dad.
Damn!! That's awesome.
This is set before the rule of two, the main characters are Darth Malgus & Satele Shan. Satele was holding Malgus' saber with the force, kinda like how Yoda deflects lightning without a saber.
Nice! Thanks for letting me know.
This channel is gonna get huge in a couple months. I can feel it.
May the force be with you! Haha. Thanks man and I hope you're enjoying the content. KZ
Dude... I love it.
Yeah... I like how our Villain in these video's takes damage and evolves as the cinematics go on. Though if I recall correctly, they were released in reverse order. You are most fortunate to watch them in the proper order first time around.
Sometimes it's cool to be late 😜
continue with the rest of the cinematics from thie game. they are amazing.
As an A level film student I'm finding your content entertaining and educational
Amazing! I'm glad you feel you're learning something. The entertainment is just an added bonus.
Its a shame we cant get starwars movies like these :(
I love ur breakdowns 🫡
18:20 Mate, its a pissing man/a soldier without fore ability absolutely bodying a Sith Acolyte
That level of storytelling and moment resonated with me to when i first joined the military and felt like Damn, i gotta be That cool
A wide shot might have gone well, but you have so much complexity and beautiful moments happening in that short sequence, including the troopers behind, that I feel a wide would have lost some of that impact and magic. It grounded it on a personal level for me as a viewer at least
That's awesome to read. I'm glad you connected with it. They could have used a wide originally and then thought exactly what you typed and changed it back. You never know unless you're in the room. Cutting room that is.
You mentioned something particularly interesting, namely, the so-called "blink shot"
The reason you didn’t see Malgus blink his eyes until the last second is because blinking is often regarded as a sign of empathy, proving deep down, you are human, you have emotions, and that you care.
KZ
This takes place roughly 2,600 years before Darth Bane created the Rule of Two.
And you know the insane thing, after malgus gets kamahamaha’ed, he gets up and finds two Jedi in the area and proceed to kill them and a really
Injured State
Is that the next cinematic!!? KZ
KZ
Awesome! Can't wait! @@kaizammit
