I own this game before I even owned a n64 I would look at the cartridge everyday waiting for my mom to get her next pay check for the n64. It was painful but I love her for teaching me to be patient.

STORY TIME: As a child my sister and I played Super Mario 64 every single day for what felt like weeks. But for some reason, we just could never find THE LAST STAR. We were always one single star short of getting to the roof to find Yoshi. We eventually moved onto other games, and in turn, grew up ourselves and became adults. We both moved out and left our N64 back home with our parents, along with our childhood. flash forward to about 15 years later. my sister and I traveled back home for Christmas that year. My mom said she had a box of our old stuff waiting for us to go through. There it was in a box, almost frozen in time from 1996. We couldn't believe that our childhood N64 was still intact after all this time. We dusted it off and kept our fingers crossed as we hoped to see that N64 logo animation start. It did! We played Mario 64 again for the first time in over a decade, and it was just like we were kids again. Best part was that it still remembered our save file! we were literally picking back up exactly where we left off. We took turns playing random levels and were having just the best time ever remembering the controls and collecting greyed out stars. But then something incredible happened. We couldn't believe what had just happened in front of our eyes. Randomly in one of the later levels, WE GOT IT! We got the final star! We somehow missed it as kids, but it was now finally ours! Let me tell you, and I am not exaggerating; My sister and I, two very grown adults, leaped up from the floor and ran around our whole house SCREAMING at the top of our lungs! Probably gave our mother a heart attack haha! Almost gave ourselves heart attacks, most likely! So after our burst of childlike excitement, we eventually settled down and scurried back to the system to reap our reward. After 15+ years, we finally encountered Yoshi on the roof and got the proper ending to the game we had been missing out on. It's the most amazing memory I have with my sister, and it would not be possible without this landmark of a game. Super Mario 64 means so much to so many people, and this story is what it means to me. Thank you for reading :)
@@superdejan64 It's more likely they were not skilled enough to get it as kids. Loads of people have stories where there is 1 really hard challenge they never beat because their kid skills were simply not good enough but they hold that regret their whole lives.

That's the problem. Spyro and Crash today would barely be servable as indies without much success. Mario 64 is one of the most fun games of 2020, even if it came out 24 years ago, even without updated graphics.

I was that 10 year old boy on his N64 playing Mario64 after being a NES/SNES Kid and I felt like damn, this is peak graphics and gaming. I probably spent way less time playing it than other games these days, but as a kid, a summer feels like an eternity.

Fix its broken control system and it would've been a slam dunk for the collection, with the original SM64 to roll out NSO N64 so nobody would complain about not being able to play the original. Then they could follow that up with cart rereleases of Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D next year, with the original Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask on NSO N64. Nintendo please hire me as your idea guy

You mean like the SM64 native multiplatform* PC port some people made (based on the SM64 decompilation project) and released on github, that runs at 4K 60fps, has a high-res texture pack available (the original textures redrawn at high resolution by volunteers), and has subsequently been enhanced by people to add things like improved controls (button remapping, analog camera controls, mouse look). * Linux and Windows officially supported, and people have managed to compile it for Mac as well. Supports Direct3D 11 and 12 and OpenGL 2.1 (and OpenGL 1.3 for sm64ex). It can also be compiled to a web application (WebAssembly and WebGL).

I know it's a little old video but I love how fully realized of a writer you are. I've watched a good handfull of these "reviews" or videos (not sure which to call them lol) recently and I've just been amazed at how good this writing is. Each one has multiple funny moments that aren't dependent upon hearing it for the first time or going to be outdated, they are just great jokes. And while I'm aware that you've said that you're subpar at gaming and your boyfriend is stellar, I believe it's probably the same way for him here. You're just unbelievable with how you make these videos and share content and opinion. From the inclusions of things that your boyfriend says to making the video have meaning, it's very fully realized and needed to say it. (Also just great at nailing how my now wife feels about said games that I've/we've played). Hopefully this comment finds you and gives good spirit!
TBH, the DS version of this is the definitive version. 30 extra stars, 4 characters and they fixed the damn camera. I feel like everyone forgets the Remake already exists.

Sometimes I think my girlfriend likes watching me play games more than she likes playing games herself, so I've taken full advantage by introducing her to some of the all-time classics from my childhood as if I were the curator of some grand video game museum.
Asked my parents what i wanted for Christmas (N64), they bought me a NES saying it was the same. I could never play these titles in my life and years went on and on and i even forgot them. I was skeptical to buy 3 uber old games at 60€ but it's damn worth it. So much hours of fun are awaiting me and i couldn't suggest this collection more. Hopefully Galaxy 2 will be added as well, later...
So much dedicated to showing and telling how it was as a kid experiencing for the first time. Super Mario 64 was a landmark game that will never be beaten in how it impacted and changed the world.
I’ve been super depressed lately because of some rough things like losing family and a long term relationship ending but these videos have been a big bright spot. I mean, it was a rerelease on a collection. I'm glad they didn't remake it. A 64 remake would be amazing. Though I'd hate it to be the version of 64 on 3D All Stars. It's an amazing game (3D All Stars) and I love the way it is now
I really enjoy the review but it’s so nice how their relationships is integrated into the channel. It genuinely feels like they both enjoy the process of creating these videos which is not very common, especially for people that try to rip off the GFR format.

Spring of 1997, I was 15, and the Nintendo 64 took me places that I had never thought possible.
Man... I know it's a little old video but I love how fully realized of a writer you are. I've watched a good handfull of these "reviews" or videos (not sure which to call them lol) recently and I've just been amazed at how good this writing is. Each one has multiple funny moments that aren't dependent upon hearing it for the first time or going to be outdated, they are just great jokes. And while I'm aware that you've said that you're subpar at gaming and your boyfriend is stellar, I believe it's probably the same way for him here. You're just unbelievable with how you make these videos and share content and opinion. From the inclusions of things that your boyfriend says to making the video have meaning, it's very fully realized and needed to say it. (Also just great at nailing how my now wife feels about said games that I've/we've played). Hopefully this comment finds you and gives good spirit!

Sometimes I think my girlfriend likes watching me play games more than she likes playing games herself, so I've taken full advantage by introducing her to some of the all-time classics from my childhood as if I were the curator of some grand video game museum.

Asked my parents what i wanted for Christmas (N64), they bought me a NES saying it was the same. I could never play these titles in my life and years went on and on and i even forgot them. I was skeptical to buy 3 uber old games at 60€ but it's damn worth it. So much hours of fun are awaiting me and i couldn't suggest this collection more.
Hopefully Galaxy 2 will be added as well, later...

I really enjoy the review but it’s so nice how their relationships is integrated into the channel. It genuinely feels like they both enjoy the process of creating these videos which is not very common, especially for people that try to rip off the GFR format.
