"Unreasonably strong opinions about trivial stuff" is perhaps the greatest part of Boyfriend reviews. 10/10 would watch again.

I don't think it's truly that Trivial, considering how often you'll be dealing with all that BS. It's like the saying goes "The straw that broke the camel's back"

And yeah, my wife allowed me to play AC for a while and... the people who designed the tons of windows you need to go through for the simplest of things, should get a job in public administration NOT games development. The trivial stuff causes more stress than actual failures ;P

When I played animal crossing with my girlfriend and ran out of stuff to do and got bored I just started chasing her with an axe and while hitting her with an axe doesn't do anything the sight of an axe murderer chasing his victim in the adorable animal crossing graphics was surreal and somehow quite entertaining 10/10

i love how the mr. rogers montage got me feeling all choked up and ready to cry and then it segued into loan problems and tiger king had me burst out laughing. i have never felt so many emotions in such a short period of time.
I adore New Horizons, however he makes really valid points about the game's flaws.
One thing that *really* brings me down is the fact there's little to no way to interact with other players, mini-games, interactive expressions, interactive objects, you can use to have fun with your friends, that's what this game desperately needs, hopefully the updates made to this game will increase interactivity, it would be incredible.
He makes another good factor about crafting. I hope the devs make an update to the game where you can access the storage for materials, and automatically craft the things you want
No, those arent't valid points. That's how the game is and how fans like it. If you don't like Animal Crossing, don't try to change it, just stop playing. It's that easy.

Animal crossing is a slow burn, and I completely understand why some people will never get into the series, but asking the devs change things you find bland and boring is just kinda... Pointless.
That said, it could totally stand for some QoL tweaks, as mentioned in the video, so I agree with the reviewer there, but you specifically talk about tweaking gameplay, and (depending what you meant by that) that would be a huge no for me. Could they ADD to the gameplay? Sure! But don't change the fundamentals.
AC has always been about playing it your way, so if you can't find fun things to do with the multiplayer as it is, then maybe it's you (not YOU specifically) that isn't fun, and not the game.
I had my sister, her bf, my niece come to my island for Easter and made a fun mini game for us to play, all using what's readily available in the game. Would a premade mini game have been fun? Yeah, sure, but for how long?

I can’t help but feel “Really Nintendo? You had a decade and this is the best you can do?” I love animal crossing for many many many reasons but I actually think stardew valley is better/there is more to do and the mechanics make sense/are better thought out.
Part of me wonders what everyone would think of the game if we weren’t in lockdown and had nothing better to do.
Still love the game but thought it was a bit of a let down, especially for as much build up and time that had taken place since the GameCube version.
This game has so many quality of life improvements it makes all the things the didn't fix stand out. I love AC but hearing the same repetitive dialogue every time I want to fly to an island isn't charming after the 50th time nevertheless the 500th time. Sometimes being an animal crossing fan means suffering a lot of stupid pointless stuff to mindlessly grind towards meaningless rewards. Or something like that.

And after fiving two of these buttons the function to climb and to jump over rivers there would be still one button remaining for Melee-Attack which would instantly force the person your hitting to "leave" your Island.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is so addicting that it has turned my mother into a gamer. Not even joking she was teaching me how to play the other day. Has anyone ever experienced this phenomenon of a non gaming mom teaching a gamer about a game?
The Legendary Skittle my mother and father have played every single day since it came out and I bought it. My mom will come in and tell me to get off the game because she wants to play...But at least my museum is getting finished pretty quick lol
My mother taught me how to play Ultima Online because one of her friends who played it got her into it. I was already a gamer by this point, but yes, yes I have.
My mom got addicted to plants vs zombies when it first came out, it got to a point where she would play survival on the hardest difficulty and be bored. She could play a round of survival for weeks and she also maxed out her money earned in the game. She said the game was too easy, and even though i play videogames regularly i have never got nearly as good as her in the tower defense area. She has since quit pvz and doesn't care for any of the new ones.

@@BigBoss-sm9xj Dark Souls 2 compared to 1 and 3 is the worst entry imo. They tried a bunch of new stuff that didn't exactly work. Also despite having stories that aren't in your face and not related to each other, you can skip Dark Souls 2 and not miss out on anything.

How have I never found this before? This reminds me of all the hours I spent watching my brothers play games either I wasn't old enough to play myself or because it was their turn to play. There were some games I loved watching (Oblivion and Fable immediately come to mind), but there were some that were really boring (I honestly can't think of any right now), so this concept of a backseat-review reminds me of those days.
He's absolutely right about the Nook Terminal cancer. Trying to purchase multiple things from it is such a pain because the dialogue is constantly stopping you. And then I realized, each of the stores has WAY too much dialogue in general. Every time you leave they stop your character and say bye. Why not just let me walk out the door and wave as I do? I know it is only a couple of seconds, but jeeze I'm getting tired of mashing the b button to make the dialogue go by faster every time I walk into and out of a store.
It's a very Japanese thing. They're accustomed to store employees always greeting you and thanking you for coming by, so of course that influence would make it into AC.

I literally erased the game from the potential buys list after this honest review.
It's not about the trivial things tho, it's about the experience as a whole. You can't just knock a game off your list because of minor inconveniences the game has. Sure, they can add up in games, but animal crossing is a game where the experiences overshadow the minor things to the point where the minor things can even become charms in due time. Give the game some time.

I have to say, Matt nailed the reasons why Animal Crossing is feeling like a real drag. That lack of multiple quality-of-life features sometimes makes me wanting to go back to Minecraft.

Just recently discovered your channel and it's such a breath of fresh air! Boyfriend and I recently got into gaming cuz obviously, self-quarantine. He's a lot more comfortable playing games growing up with brothers and I'm a total beginner. Your videos are exactly what I want from reviews haha
You'll get used to it, don't get discouraged by confusing controls and such. There is no better thing like playing a game with your girlfriend or listening to her talk about something fun that happend in game.

Going to other people's homes and such not knowing what they have done or who they have interacted with and doing the "normal things" is one of many reasons the United States has the highest amount of coronoa virus cases. Being safe is top priority here, the coronoa virus is dangerous, and many people _still_ don't care about being safe. Granted, "ba ba" assumed an awful lot here, he/she assumed they weren't being safe, they didn't live in the same house, etc. Acting like they knew them. You shouldn't be so quick to dismiss people tho, that goes for practically everyone here. I also don't get why you call them racist, they said the n word to a person with a profile picture of someone who doesn't have a black skin color so I'd assume they are black and use the word frequently, like it's a habit. Many of my black friends use the word frequently, so I don't see how it was racist.

@@Besayren that was a shorted version of something like this: "How dare you, developers, make me "stop, open the item wheel and equip something" (which is 4 button presses and annoying as dang) to do something so a) simple and b) extremely often used in the gameplay as hopping over rivers or climbing ledges? Things like that should be a lot easier and faster to access, and you could have done it easily, since you have three buttons on the controllers that literally have no functions at all. This crap is important, bad usability is what makes people leave and never come back. Imagine TH-cam making you expand a list of reactions to leave a like or dislike, or ask you every time after you click on a video if you REALLY want to watch it. Annoying, right? That's an example of making things only ONE click further away than they should be. And you bloody make me do four moves to perform the most basic maneuvers that I sometimes need to do several times in 20 seconds! This is unacceptable and how dare you make this game so annoying!"

Y'know, Matt is right, there are absolutely an absolutely massive amount of inconveniences in the game that does make it a chore to watch and play sometimes
From what I've heard it's even WORSE compared to previous games in the series for some horrible reasons
@CarlyKpdx Like if they want people to enjoy a slower pace, don't put in BS artificial time wasters!!
Do things like increase timers or add timers for building and such, but allow you to do multiple diferent ones at once.
That or like...making things harder by requiring more sources an other stuff.
@CarlyKpdx I mean you can still have a nice slow pace but being unable to craft multiples items of something, etc etc it's just little quality of life stuff to make the grind a little more enjoyable
@CarlyKpdx There is absolutely no reason the gold tools should break at all. We still have to craft pretty much everything else, why not just reward us for getting every fish in the game with an indestructible fishing rod? And you can't even customize the gold tools to reset their durability which makes them almost worse than regular tools.

Years ago I was working at a Gamestop when the _Dead or Alive_ volleyball game came out, and we had two pre-orders - both made by women. I only saw one pick up, a girl with her _very_ embarrassed boyfriend. She claimed she wanted to play it because it was about making friends and giving gifts. He didn't want any part of it.

Narffet Les I’ve heard that series was surprisingly popular with women, they liked the tropical environments, the costumes and social interactions. When I was younger (female) I wanted to buy it myself, it looked so relaxing.
