@@mrrodriguezHLP button and stick controls are very nice. First half the game I used motion controls and the Gyroscope gets out of wack most of the time. Last half of the game was a lot more fun with button controls and Ghirahim is a lot less annoying

But it does have a lot of quality of life problems and annoyances that I'm really really glad are fixed in the Switch version. Never had any problems with the motion controls on either the Wii or Switch though, I love the motion controls. So I can sew how it's a problem for people that didn't like them back on the Wii.

I don’t know if they set up the Wii’s sensor bar properly or now as the game actually uses that to cancel drift but personally I’ve had a great time with the wii version. I’m fine with motion controls as long as it is an optional thing. VR and casual switch titles are where heavy motion controls are now I guess.

The best motion control implementation that I've played is Splatoon 2. It's shockingly on point. Skyward Sword HD is so, so much better than the original, but it's still pretty janky in some spots.
The Tommy Boy scene with the HUD is why I subscribe. This channel really has a knack for combining some of my favorite things and making it hilarious. You two are a great team.
I don't get why Skyward Sword is so hated, I think the games are amazing even though it has some wonky controls still has one of the best stories, boss fights, music and even more
Because out of the Zelda games it is the worst one. Controls make up most of the fun or viability of a game and that at least for me personally makes it unplayable. However if anyone finds fun with it go on :D

Sometimes I would be like damn that was buggy but it was not unplayable and the controls and mechanics were actually lots of fun. But in the end its just my opinion vs yours.
I personally hated it due to its muddy/lackluster artstyle (in game), repetitive bosses, backtracking, lack of exploration, lack of sidequests (compared to other Zeldas), terrible controls, and forgettable dungeons.

I'm always in awe of the editing effort that goes into these videos. Maybe someday I'll end up going through Skyward Sword myself now that the remaster exists. The backtracking of the last third of the game and the constant show-and-tell day stopping certainly put me off of doing anything more than watching Chuggaaconroy play through the game.

As far as the non-Motion controls of Skyward Sword: I wish they would have changed, " hold LB to look around using R stick" to " Hold LB to use the Sword with R stick". I can't tell you how many times I've tried to turn the camera, only to pull out my sword! Ugh! It's frustrating! I refuse to even try the motion controls; I have bad memories of using the Power Glove as a child!
Yep the joycon controls feel gimmicky. In the tree cutting game I put my procontroller flat and treat the dpad like a joystick I hold with my thumb and pointer finger. And switching between zR side weapons is really difficult. I wish I could just pause and select an item, like in Ocarina or Windwaker. Or the game would pause while you were selecting.
My new channel I have the switch version, and it has the options for both motion control and pro controller. What I’m saying is the non motion control option on pro controller doesn’t change how gimmicky the controls are. I think I did a bad job wording it

You can't get past certain points in the game unless you use actual motion controls, or manually map individual gyro movements onto the buttons of your controller, which makes for a borderline unplayable experience. Just get the remaster, since it's better than emulated SS in nearly every single way
Use the "Y" button often to re-center your controller and that eliminates like 95% of the issue (doublecheck that percentage with Fi), that being said it'd be a lot cooler if picking a different item didn't uncenter you in the first place.
Please make a mock "Sounds of The Legend of Zelda, to annoy your girlfriend with" commercial. Like the campy 90s greatest love song collections infomercials.
So many godly television clip choices/references (amazing editing from Matt), plus perfect commentary from Shelby. I lost it at Fi being C-3P0's drag persona, not to mention the 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' edit, my god.
Which makes sense why I never finished either, while I did every single other one. I won't say they aren't fun, but the little things like mentioned above, the daunting size of breath of wild, and both having to use the crappy motion controls, and in the case of the switch a diminutive controller that barely lends itself for properly pressing buttons in my mitten hands, make for a poor experience unfortunately. Which sucks cause I really was looking forward to both those titles when they came out.

I remember using the motion controls on the wiimote (I think I got like one of those wiimote + types that had explicitly better motion controls?) as a kid and I absolutely enjoyed it. Sometimes the motions didn't quite line up, but that was like 5% of the time! Otherwise, they went perfectly all the time. I remember skyward sword very fondly, and the motion controls were a massive part of the fun to me.

Well to be fair, the closeness and repetitivness of the environments are a way bigger flaw in the game than anything else, especially after playing BotW
@@sasook I kinda agree and disagree, since it comes to how we go about BotW. I like to get lost along the way, because there's always something to do going from A to B. A shrine, a camp, a korok, a boss, another shrine, etc... I Wind Waker it took long going from an island to another since there's rarely something in between, but the feeling of solitude is a part of this game since you alone go look for your sister. But for Skyward Sword ? Not much discovery and tangent. Go A to B. Forest, mountain, desert. Do it all once again. Even compared to OoT or MM where you also visit the same place, in those game they are completely different. But in SS ? The drowned forest or the infiltration of the mountain? Good ideas, but too little, not enough.
@@ElsyeaR What you listed was a big gripe I had with the game - no matter where I went, the large majority I was finding exactly what you said, shrines/koroks/camps/miniboss over & over & over & over & over again. Sure SS can be repetitive too but at least it’s not a 200 hour game. Exploring BotW’s map takes _forever_ & I found it very annoying & very repetitive to encounter the same stuff regardless of region for literally hundreds of hours. So in that regard I actually do prefer the SS “one & done” approach where the game makes it clear like “this is what there is to see here, & you won’t see it elsewhere, so enjoy it” for each region.
SS HD was great. Huge improvement over the original. I played exclusively with motion controls, too. Only time I occasionally had issues was during combat. It worked a lot better if you constantly reset the motion sensor. The baseline it uses drifts too much if you don't hit the reset button every couple minutes.

Shooters in general are great on Wii with motion controls + analog stick for movement. It's like a mouse + a controller. But even more natural.

Well to be fair, the closeness and repetitivness of the environments are a way bigger flaw in the game than anything else, especially after playing BotW
I kinda like them over BotW’s emptiness though. Too many times in BotW I felt like getting to the next destination just took way too long.
@@sasook I kinda agree and disagree, since it comes to how we go about BotW. I like to get lost along the way, because there's always something to do going from A to B. A shrine, a camp, a korok, a boss, another shrine, etc... I Wind Waker it took long going from an island to another since there's rarely something in between, but the feeling of solitude is a part of this game since you alone go look for your sister.
But for Skyward Sword ? Not much discovery and tangent. Go A to B. Forest, mountain, desert. Do it all once again. Even compared to OoT or MM where you also visit the same place, in those game they are completely different. But in SS ? The drowned forest or the infiltration of the mountain? Good ideas, but too little, not enough.
@@ElsyeaR What you listed was a big gripe I had with the game - no matter where I went, the large majority I was finding exactly what you said, shrines/koroks/camps/miniboss over & over & over & over & over again. Sure SS can be repetitive too but at least it’s not a 200 hour game. Exploring BotW’s map takes _forever_ & I found it very annoying & very repetitive to encounter the same stuff regardless of region for literally hundreds of hours. So in that regard I actually do prefer the SS “one & done” approach where the game makes it clear like “this is what there is to see here, & you won’t see it elsewhere, so enjoy it” for each region.

SS HD was great. Huge improvement over the original. I played exclusively with motion controls, too. Only time I occasionally had issues was during combat. It worked a lot better if you constantly reset the motion sensor. The baseline it uses drifts too much if you don't hit the reset button every couple minutes.
