Honestly, that’s what happens when you limit your Pokémon experience to Nuzlockes in the older games. The newer games are rough around the edges, yes, but they are nonetheless worth checking out. What you find may surprise you.

So i highly recommend playing this game. If it weren't for the performance issues, which might be fixed in the upcoming update, this game would be the best pokemon game in a long time.
As for the confusing/new/interesting bits, they completely removed random encounters and replaced them with overworld spawns.
Cooking was introduced in gen 8 but was basically useless. It was very much improved in this game.
Toby Fox of Undertale worked on some of the music in this game, and you can definitely tell.
The bugs and glitches in this game are absolutely hilarious. I highly recommend watching a glitch compilation. It's very worth it.
This game may look open world, but there isn't level scaling at this point in time, so it is actually like gen 1 open world where once you get to a certain point you can do a lot of stuff in any order, but it's highly recommended to do the first few gyms first and the last gym last.

well actually I consider fusing 5 pokemon together with a tera orb to create giant car abominations of the wrong elemental type mid level evil, its like Team Rocket's Eugenics and cloning, but less harmful to the Vavarooms they used than Mr Fuji's experiments were to Mew and Mewtwo

I've literally completed the Pokédex, and the only bugs I've seen are minor graphical glitches, like the lighting changing suddenly.
I mean, there's a bit of those but they were present in Legends as well. The shadows are kinda bad, there's frame-rate issues outside of the immediate area, and things can sometimes pop in as you're riding full-speed. A few bounding-box issues on terrain where you can get stuck, but the game AT LEAST will unstick you to the nearest location after about 10-15 seconds of being stalled. (Just in case you could free yourself.)
However.
The game really does something different with how it's presented, and the story is interesting. (If predictable but remembering Pokemon is meant for younger people... I never go in expecting bold new ideas.) When the reaction goes up for the next episode Alpharad has put out... we'll get a good look at what this game can very much be like.
(You can sequence break the hell out of it early on, before ever setting foot in school, and rack up a LOT of Pokemon. I think my friend and I did something like almost 100 out of the 400 in the region before deciding it was time to start the plot.)

Genuinely loved this game. Ya the all the bugs and stuff are not good and the Pokémon Company really should give their non 3D expert modelers more than 3 years of development, but having over 60 hours already in the span of 3 weeks says a lot. Plus, some bugs are just really funny, I swear every single room I walk into has a random Pokeball halfway in the ground
Gen 6 had mega evolution
Gen 7 had Z moves
Gen 8 had dynamaxing
Gen 9 had tera type
Even though scarlet and violet is a glitchy mess the story is actually pretty good
I must concur. And even if you don’t find ironic treasure in the slew of amusing bugs Scarlet and Violet has, you sure will find treasure in the dragon you meet along the way.
A lot has changed for pokemon passed gen 4. So it's a lot to take in
We have mega evolutions that temporary evolve your pokemon. Even added it them to Pokemon Ruby & Saphire remakes.
Regional varients, different versions of existing pokemon with different type match ups. Like a geodude is rock and electric, and more.

16:10 Duck, you've only played to gen 5, so you've only seen the tip of the iceberg, but pokemon from now on doesn't carry ANY side features over. You can safely assume every gimmick every game introduces will be gone in at most 1 more generation. Even the big featured mechanics.
I mean that’s honestly a great business model. Instead of new Pokémon being the draw for a new game it’s a new gimmick
Scarlet and Violet are fairly buggy and laggy, yes, but the issue has been greatly blown out of proportion by a combination of clickbaiting youtubers and people who are just looking for a reason to bash it. If you're lucky and have minimal bugs and lag, they're legitimately high-tier pokemon games and probably the best 3D mainseries pokemon game yet.
Also, Nemona is basically the pokemon equivalent of a chess grandmaster going easy on a beginner they're teaching, which is a really fun concept for a pokemon rival that I just want to draw more attention to.
Right, explanation time
Pokémon wandering around in the overworld was a thing back in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee. This was then continued for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, Pokémon Legends Arceus, and now Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
Scarlet Violet, or SV, are the first games to have a proper open world and no random grass encounters at all. Also said open world is covered in bugs and glitches.
The new gimmick this time around is Terastalization or Terastalize Phenomenon. Each Pokémon now has a third Tera Type, and during battle you can activate the Tera Type on one of your turns. This changes your Pokémon into that Tera Type and has varying effects.
Naturally Pokémon will have a tera Type based on one of their natural types. A wild Pikachu for instance can only be caught with Electric.
Certain special Pokémon can spawn with special Tera Types from Raid Dens or as wandering wild Tera Pokémon, so like a Fire Pikachu. Notably more rare. It is possible to change a Pokémon’s Tera Type later via certain materials to anything you want though.
When Terastalizing, the Pokémon defensively becomes that type but retains their original offences.
Take Charizard for example, Fire Flying Pokémon. It has a weakness to Rock, Electric, and Water. It also has STAB (same type attack boost) from Fire and Flying attacks. Basically if Charizard and Typhlosion both used Air Slash, Charizard’s Attack would gain a 1.5x multiplier because it’s also Flying Type whereas Typhlosion is just fire.
If Charizard Terastalizing into a Fire Type, it loses Flying as a defensive type but retains STAB. So Flying moves still gain a 1.5x multiplier but Fire moves now get a 2x multiplier because it doubled up with its original STAB and now Terastalize Fire. This however means Charizard is now weak to Water, Rock, and Ground but no longer weak to Electric and not 4x weak to Rock since Flying is defensively out of the picture.
Alternatively Charizard could tera into Grass. This means it would now only be weak to Fire, Flying, Bug, Ice, and Poison but now resist Water and Ground. This also means Charizard gets a 1.5x Damage multiplier on Fire, Flying, and Grass moves like Solar Beam. Three STABs as opposed to one 1.5x STAB and a 2x STAB. The value of swapping varies by Pokémon to offset weaknesses or bolster damage output.
If the Pokémon faints, the Tera Hat shatters and ends. Also you must recharge your Tera Orb after one use at any Pokémon Center, so don’t willy nilly fire this off at a single random wild Pokémon.
Also there are exactly 400 Pokémon in this game in the dex and about 106ish of them are completely brand new

8:42 Non-random encounters didn't start becoming a thing til _Let's Go: Pikachu_ and _Let's Go: Eevee,_ all the way in Gen 7. _Brilliant Diamond_ and _Shining Pearl_ in Gen 8 didn't have them, but that's because they're faithful remakes of _Diamond_ and _Pearl._ Dare I say, TOO faithful. But nevertheless, it's become a series staple since.
10:12 That's the main gimmick of _Scarlet and Violet:_ Terastalizing! Basically, every Pokemon comes with a "Tera Type" that allows the Pokemon to change type once per battle. And yes, the Tera Type can be _any_ of the 18 types. Got a Pokemon with Levitate as an ability? Change it to Electric type and remove all their weaknesses from play! Want to make your STAB moves stronger? Terastalize and watch the bonus increase from 1.5x to 2x! There's plenty of strategic elements to this gimmick, with lots of offensive and defensive benefits.

I just got the game yesterday. Played it today after updating it and I’ve had zero bugs so far. Some frame drops here during the classroom scenes with the legs moving odd. But past that. Nothing game breaking or world breaking. Fun game actually. Like so far it’s got me wondering what can be added or improved next.
I've seen bugs and glitches... from people literally trying to break the game.
The bugs are supposed to be a lot worse playing docked. On handheld the only big bugs from my entire playthrough + finishing the dex were #1- getting caught in the ground and force respawned 2-3 times and #2- a single time during battle the opponent mons eye bulged out for a second. The only real issue is the framerate and lag, but even then its still playable.
@@StarNinja77 I've completed the Pokédex and have been playing while docked exclusively and I haven't even seen those bugs.

ok so a patch was literally just released a few hours ago and the performance on the game is actually notably better already, the framerate is more consistent in some of the areas it struggled in like the lake, and they've already fixed some of the known glitches so it's at least a start.

Ah yes, Generation 9, the most recent editions Scarlet and Violet, long story short, yes these games have received some backlash about how buggy they are, but they are getting some patches, but aside from that, Scarlet and Violet are really good games, the story itself I won't talk much on, but the gameplay is really fun, as for your question on "when did they add overworld encounters", they added that feature in Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee as well as in Gen 8 (pokemon sword and shield) and that continued onward into Legends Arceus (which takes place in ancient times sinnoh). Scarlet and Violet of course has some new pokemon as well, but I'm not gonna say much on them. As for some of the pokemon you saw in the trainer battles, Skwovet is from Gen 8 (sword and shield), and Yungoos is from Gen 7 (Sun and moon) and something else they added in Scarlet and Violet are version exclusive professors, Professor Sada in Pokemon Scarlet, and Professor Turo in Pokemon Violet

Would absolutely recommend reacting to RTGame. He's one of my favorite gaming creators, and his Wii, Minecraft, and City Skyline videos are hilarious, but he plays such an array of games, including Pokemon.
You can see the levels in the game he just edits around it I guess. This game has the best story of any Pokémon game btw. It really is.
Overworld Pokémon has been a thing since Gen 8 (Sword & Shield)
Although the games are buggy as heck, this legit is the most fun generation and god, it's the first pokemon game with an interesting story, that's an achievement. Although I still prefer Gen 4 for nostalgia reasons.
I’m enjoying Scarlet a lot tbh, even in spite of its glaring flaws. One big issue currently-even following the first update-is that sometimes the frame rate will come to a crawl if you don’t save, close, and reopen the game. Just doing that will usually refresh the game. It really makes me think if they had more time instead of releasing the games on an annual basis, it could’ve had a better polish for launch. If you’ve got others to play the game with, then you make your own fun and it becomes a lot more enjoyable imo
Bigger issue however, stems from the fact this game isn’t as open world as they marketed. All gyms and bosses in this game are set at predetermined levels, so even if you challenge in gym in the later part of the map, none of the previous ones ride up to meet your level; they’ll still be super low. This implies that you still have to go in a set linear path, and kinda zigzag back and forth East and west, while still traveling North during your whole adventure. It’s a shame, cuz I was really hoping the gyms could be in any order and that we could come back to one of the starting towns and fight a gym leader with a much more threatening team, y’know? It is what is is, I suppose 😩

honestly Pokemon Violet might be the best Pokemon game so far, there are technical issues but those will be ironed out thankfully, Nintendo's already put out a statement that they're working on fixing them, which is pretty big honestly, like Nintendo isn't the ones actually in charge of Pokemon, Game Freak is, and Nintendo basically lets them make their own decisions, the stocks situation with Pokemon can be kind of odd, the franchise is owned by a number of parties, who Nintendo have stock in, so for Nintendo's official accounts to step in and say it's being worked on means that yeah, it's gonna be fixed, Nintendo doesn't mess around with this type of thing, they're very particular about their image and making sure games are only released when polished.
Also honestly if I had to guess what's causing the technical issues, I'd say it's probably the game engine the games are made on, time's also an issue obviously, the released Legends Arceus and Scarlet and Violet in the same year, but they do have good devs working on the game, the lead map designer for this game was from Monolith Soft, one of Nintendo's other teams, he designed Zelda Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade X's map.
This is a pretty old game engine they're using at this point, they improve the game engine with each new game obviously, but at the very least this has been the same engine since X and Y on the 3DS, and might even be the same engine they used for Red and Blue, instead of just building on top of it each new game they need to either take time off to completely rework it for modern hardware or somehow negotiate with Nintendo to be allowed to use one of Nintendo's own engines, I mean Nintendo already has game engines tailor made for open world games and RPGs, like imagine what they could do with Xenoblades game engine.
New patch was just released fixing some bugs. I’ve been having fun with the game so far and haven’t experienced anything major.

I would say the other video of this series is worth it to watch. It is a fun video to watch.
They really pushed the differences here depending on the version. Two possible riding legendaries, two possible professors, two possible schools (including uniforms) and even Pokémon that can be either from the past or the future depending on which version you get! If it wasn’t such a mess I would consider getting it. Until they do something about the issues though I am not playing anything past Legends: Arceus.

I believe is it worth to mention that this new gen, although it's REALLY messy and glitchy, the game itself is extremelly fun.

Pokemon Violet has an amazing story and is fun as hell with adicting gameplay but runs like absolute garbage with so many glitches it's litterally falling apart at the seems.

So in this game, you can technically challenge any gym, Titan or Star Boss in whatever order you want but there will be some that are harder the others so it would be easier to go by recommended order, if you talk to Nurse Joy, you actually have the option to ask her for suggestions on where to go next. Also there are actual classes you can attend in the game and even take tests, as well.
Nurse Joy just points you towards whichever challenge is closest and unfinished, not whichever one has the lowest levels.
It's a fun game but very buggy
