Fun fact: The notes that are being played here consist of A, B, and E. The main high plucky sound you hear is A, and E, while the slow pad sound has a B in it The A and E are perfect fifths / fourths apart, meaning that if you play these notes together, it doesn't sound like a major, or a minor chord, the ratio between the 2 notes is very consonant. If there was a C or a C# also being played it would break this ambiguity setting the tone for the system that Nintendo wanted. The B note plays an interesting role. B is the second note of the A major / minor scale, as well as the 4th in the E minor / major as well. So playing a B note along with the A creates an A suspended 2 chord (Asus2) or an E suspended 4 (Esus4). These chords once again, are neither minor or major but could easily be resolved to one by changing one note. This also adds to the ambiguity of the theme where the emotion and feeling of the system could go any direction. The notes and chords do not change so there is no sense of progression into a specific emotion. Contrast this with the settings menu where the chords do change from I believe D, to F, to C, to Eb and this creates a minor progression in C minor in the settings menu which is why it feels a bit darker and a bit unsettling and/or relaxing My guess is the menu is a neutral or home place where, who knows what kind of game you'll play? It gives a sense of wondering and thinking because of the suspense the chords and notes give with no direction or push towards an emotion. Especially with the new animated icons in the DSi menu, makes you feel like you have many doors to go into with all the time in the world to decide. Will it be Zelda with it's dark dungeons and exploration of the seas or by train? Mario with it's bright and colorful levels? Maybe some Pokemon with it's adventurous land and battling other trainers? Maybe taking some pictures or browsing the store for some new games? The choice is up to you.

I'd charged it 2 months ago and it hasn't dropped at all since - lasting longer than every other battery-operated thing I regularly use, idle or while used. Quite literally the sound I grew up with for so many years.

This is my very first DS Handheld Console and i played the HECK out of it! I still have my New 3DS XL but man what an incredible childhood! I had a lot of DS Games before i lost some accidentally.
My heart, my soul, I wish they never discounted these beautiful creatures in this universe, pvz, mario for the ds. Man good ol times, I grew up with this beautiful device, all I thought was the wii and this. God, I want these back.
I remember it really well when I were 4 years old in 2011. I remember doing the DSi Camera, the additional Dr. Kawishima app and the games that I had on the R4 card along with Jewel Quest.
I don't actually had a DSi as a child, but abt 1.5 years ago i got into the homebrew scene, so i got the DSi of my Brother, was happy about it, i could enjoy all GameBoy, NES, and DS Classics by ONE SD Card, i changet it in for a DSiXL later, i was happy about the clear loud speakers, it's just so damn fun to take the DSi, play some Games and remember the nice part of the childhood. The DSiXL Bricked a bit later, after i got a new one some months later i still enjoy it, sometimes i just even use it to listen to the Soundtrack XD. But even if my first DSi was with 13, i still love this Console, it cant be replaced by a 3ds for me. The Large Screens, Clear Sound, Fast Boot speeds, just make this device a legendary creation by Nintendo. And you as an uploader as the uploader of this Soundtrack definitely deserve sub's or likes. The DSi is just the BEST handheld i've ever used!!!
Yooo!! I really appreciate DSiBrew too! Although it's still fairly new and still got a lot of work going for it. It's still amazing what people are managing to make use of the Nintendo DSi hardware. I remember my sisters having these back in the day and I thought they were fucking awesome like. Then fast forward to 10 years ago on Christmas, my dad got me one since he knew how much I liked the consoles. I played it right away and I played on for many years after that. Thanks dad, thanks for making my early childhood.
Sounds absolutely relaxing and makes you feel right at home with a DSi. Especially since I used to own one myself and was remembered for my interest in photography.
My DSi has held up the best of my DS systems. My DS lite had the typical spine problem everyone got, and my 3ds got badly damaged in a fall (still works though). Because of that, I still hear this music when I want to play DS games to this day.
Aaaah... The Nintendo DS.... One of the first consoles i played.... Hearing this theme makes me cry honestly. I still have my blue DSi XL. And it still works. I can play it anytimw to see how nostalgic it is.... Thank you so much for uploading this man.
I didn't even have one but you can clearly see the effort to make it "social" just by this menu and the built in apps of Sound and Camera. Seriously, it only needed celular support to basically become a smartphone!
...The reason I'm re-living this besides pure nostalgia is because I got my DSi XL on my birthday all those years ago. I've heard the birthday jingle before, but I don't remember it well. If it exists on the DSi, then I'm waiting until the 5th to hear it after years.
Perfect white noise honestly Also I'm trying to comment on more videos that I like, if you see me come say hi, but for now I'll most likely be asleep listening to this. Christmas 2012 germany, i open my gifts and in one was a white Nintendo DSi alongside Mario and luigi browsers inside story, I was happy but not knowing what it was confused too. This music is the first I've heard and will never forget all my memories with the DSi.
2008. It was my Golden Birthday in May. I was turning 7. I was super excited since my family went completely all out for this. My first gift was from my mom. It was the smallest box of a few more smaller and bigger boxes. I reach out to this Small Box thinking not much of it. I open it. And its a Maroon Nintendo DSI XL. I was extatic. This was my first video game console I ever owned and it was all mine. I open the other smaller boxes and I get Mario Kart DS (My favourite Mario Kart to this day) Mario Party DS, and New Super Mario Bros. I recall playing something similar to this chunky thing when my aunt would visit, only it was the lightblue dsi varient. This was the first night I played all throughout the night just lying sideways in my bed playing Mario Party DS (Also my favourite Mario Party to this day) I loved that chunky handheld to death. I would later discover i can Animate on this device using Flipnote. My tiny hands couldn't draw very well with the thin stylus. Luckily i had the fountain pen bundled with it. I later discovered more of the device and it had a camera. I took pictures of my family, my toys, the backyard and my nearest playground. I would go into the album to mess and edit the photos because I can. And would. I would then later find out about the Internet. Whats that??? I asked myself for a long time. I could never understand it. Even with that built in Nintendo DSI + the internet video explaining it in such detail. That was a cool video I would just watch over and over again. I later discovered other games like the Starfy and Zelda series through this thing. My fondest memory is searching the cosmic express from top to bottom looking for secrets. Though I never finished Zelda 4 Swords. I liked what i experienced. These were good times. I would play that chunky handheld to death until I lost it on one of my taxi rides with mom from the grocery store to home. Its 2023. I would still remember all these games i used to play on the DS especially Mario Party. I walked into a Retro Game Store. And there it is. Though it isnt the same colour of Maroon. It was there. A Navy Blue Used Nintendo DSI XL for $125:00. I figured. What the hell. While i was there i would pick up those exact 3 games (not in box except for NSMB. they were all loose D:) and head back home to check this guy out. I would plug in the chraging cable and power it on. And upon the system startup jingle. Followed by the menu ambiet music, there it was. The same feeling i had all those years ago. The sounds of the main menu. The colourful LED glimmer of the lights in my dark room, as i layed sideways playing Mario Party all those years ago. I obviously lost ALL MY PICTURES i took with my childhood console, so booting up the album there was nothing there. I felt empty. Yet as soon as the soft and ambient piano kicked in. It didn't matter. I remembered it all. I remember my hotwheel car collection and my Mario and Sonic plushies sitting upright against the wall or flat on the floor, i envisioned old pictures of my dad and mom, brother and sister, images of the playground right outside my childhood home. I can just feel the sand already. I was brought back to a much simpler time. I miss those days. My point to this comment is just to share my experiences i had with my Nintendo DS and i consider it to be a special part in my life. I loved my Nintendo DS and i loved every memory i made with it. Thank you for reading my comment :)
Still have my DSi and after hundreds of hours playing on it, it works like factory new. I still remember the christmas day I got it and the picture I took to commemorate the occasion.
I remember hearing this music on my Wine Red DSi XL, I used to mess around in the sound app loads of times, according to memory and very few images when doing a close-up.
I still remember playing my dsi for the first and boy. I had amazing games like Mariokart ds, Super mario 64 ds, Mario party ds, and new Super mario Bros. It's too sad that Nintendo doesn't make any portable consoles other than a switch. This was the first system I've ever got, and I still remember it. Turning it on, hearing a startup music and menu music. My Dsi hinge broke, so I play on the 3ds, but it's still not the same. This will be nintendos best console because of the nostalgia, the games, and so much more. Thank you for bringing me back with awesome memories.
A few years ago, we let someone we knew borrow the DS for their kids and then they sold it without our permission. Family photos, my math streak, and one of our games...gone to some random for maybe $20. Not sure why, but I recently got the urge to listen to this and get flooded with memories.
Back when consoles had ambient music, sound effects for opening apps, and you didn't have to pay for a membership to battle other players in Pokemon, or whatever game you wanted to play with friends. The DSi was a true labor of love and I'm so happy to have grown up with it along with the 3DS later on. Thank you to the console that introduced me to one of the many game series I still love to this day. Thank you Pokemon, and thanks Nintendo. Thank you for the good times in my youth. ❤
Personally, the 3DS theme is more nostalgic to me, cause I had more well memories of it, and all I really remember for the DSi was just playing NSMB, Zoobles, and that one Team Umizoomi game.
My Nintendo DSI was stolen from my grandmother’s apartment by people who were using her financially. I remember coming home from my community college classes, making sure she was okay, and searching months upon months for it. This thing was my best friend. It helped me through a lot of trying times and when it was gone, I cried so hard. When I ended up getting my 3DS (the teal one), I made sure to protect it. With every upgrade of the 3DS I got, I just kept thinking of my DSI. I couldn’t stop those thoughts of the games I had, even the R4i I had for it. Sometimes we realize that maybe we lived the golden age and everything now are moments meant to remember those moments..
Ah this takes me back to Christmas 2013 when I was 11 years old. Was so excited when I got this. Now I'm 21 and I just wanna go back to that time again. I miss being a kid.
Do you lads (guys) remember playing games on the R4 card? I sure did with some nostalgic games like New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, Burnout Legends, Scooby-Doo Unmasked, Ford Racing 3, Shrek Super Slam, Sonic Rush and more? 2010 or 2011 was an awesome year in my life since I got a R4 card along with my first owned DS. I remember first playing it in 2009 but it were my nanny's before she saw me play on it.
This music used to scare the SHIT out of me when I was younger. I saw someone else's comment saying it's liminal, and it absolutely is. I guess I'm not the only one who had that experience.
I didn’t get internet until the tail end of the DSi era (2010), so I never really got to use the shop or online functions. I still have hundreds great memories with the DSi and other systems…
What are your favourite memories about the Nintendo DSi?
Just playing the ds on a warm summer day, having fun, laughing, smiling, just enjoying myself. Being in a happy place. I wish I could go back.

Quite literally the sound I grew up with for so many years.
This helps me go to sleep, I love it! Brings back the old days
This is all I used to need to be happy
Back when tech was still pretty limited, and people were more connected. I miss the old world, and I'm only in my 20's. The fast world we live in is overwhelming me.
i feel truly tranquil and complete with this, i loved the dsi.
This is my very first DS Handheld Console and i played the HECK out of it! I still have my New 3DS XL but man what an incredible childhood! I had a lot of DS Games before i lost some accidentally.
the fact that yoshi's voice actor composed it
Damn
That's pretty epic!!
Damn, Yoshi’s also a good composer, what a clever dinosaur
@@tomatelord8126 LMAO I just imagined all the Yoshis playing the DSi menu with intruments as xylophones and flutes 😂😂

This reminds me of how I had a pink DSi but went through a phase and colored it blue with a damn crayon

Christmas 2010 playing Pokemon Pearl for the very first time, take me back please when i was only 8 years old.
My heart, my soul, I wish they never discounted these beautiful creatures in this universe, pvz, mario for the ds. Man good ol times, I grew up with this beautiful device, all I thought was the wii and this. God, I want these back.
i didn't know that the 3DS Home Menu was a remix of the DSi's until VERY recently. i love it
I remember it really well when I were 4 years old in 2011. I remember doing the DSi Camera, the additional Dr. Kawishima app and the games that I had on the R4 card along with Jewel Quest.
I don't wanna write a big story about nostalgia but this sound always reminds me of October and December and nothing else than the magic around it.
And the soundtracks are dope!
Yooo!! I really appreciate DSiBrew too! Although it's still fairly new and still got a lot of work going for it. It's still amazing what people are managing to make use of the Nintendo DSi hardware. Sorry to hear that you bricked your device somewhat in the process but glad to see you got a new one, thanks for enjoying the soundtrack! - Anonymous
Indeed the dsi is the most precious thing I own, it helped me through some many long car rides and camping trips. The best electronic handheld ever.
This brings back so many memories, i remember me and my cousin getting ours for christmas when it came out. Great times
this sounds so interesting having only heard the 3ds one for years!

A mix of nostalgia and so just makes this wonderful
The DSI was short lived, but its shop survived for almost a decade, had so many memories with this thing, good thing i still own it (every DSiware i had was transferred lol)
Are used to have a blue DSIXL it was good memories I still remember this music in the rest of the music. Sadly my DS I XL is destroyed but someday I’ll get a new one.
I remember the time I would take endless random pictures with this handheld and spent many hours on New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Party DS. Tho even after losing my old Blue DSi, that didn’t stop me from getting a new one. Since 2019 I got a Red Mario 25th Anniversary DSi and playing the hell out of it recapturing the memories. To this day I still play it and it will always be my favorite Nintendo Handheld of all time
Lucky you! I always wanted to get the Red Mario 25th Anniversary Nintendo DSi XL model but I was a early adopter and got my Nintendo DSi XL when it first released because my previous Red and Black Nintendo DS Lite model hinge snapped off and broke. Life lesson to always be careful with your old electronics! - Anonymous
I remember my sisters having these back in the day and I thought they were fucking awesome like. Then fast forward to 10 years ago on Christmas, my dad got me one since he knew how much I liked the consoles. I played it right away and I played on for many years after that. Thanks dad, thanks for making my early childhood.
Ooh you say bad noey noey word!!

i miss you guys
guessing you had an old friend group eh
Just realised that the dsi home menu music can be heard in the 3ds menu music
Thank You For Taking Me Back To My Ages Of 5-9 Years.
You're absolutely welcome. - Anonymous
Same here
Sounds absolutely relaxing and makes you feel right at home with a DSi.
My console.
This was where it was at for me in 2009...
The Nintendo DSI was perfect, it seemed like the future!
You mean Whitebeedoh Ds3
I didn't even have one but you can clearly see the effort to make it "social" just by this menu and the built in apps of Sound and Camera.
Seriously, it only needed celular support to basically become a smartphone!
This brings back so many memories of my childhood
I remember seeing the dsi advertised as a kid. So many memories in the summer of 2010. I wish i could go back
Yk I have so many memories playing this menu music just for fun, it is so warming inside.
Listening this music before to launch Flipnote Studio is so relaxing.
Nah man why am i tearing up listening to this
not only you
listen to this while high slightly grieving abt missing my childhood self playing my ds alone silently in my room.
bro crying i had a blue dsi and my bro years before that had a old og red ds i still remember the sounds ongggg 😭❤️
...The reason I'm re-living this besides pure nostalgia is because I got my DSi XL on my birthday all those years ago. I've heard the birthday jingle before, but I don't remember it well. If it exists on the DSi, then I'm waiting until the 5th to hear it after years.
PictoChat pulled through!
Not only you're a legend hearing this, you are also a veteran of the 2000's.
Perfect white noise honestly
Also I'm trying to comment on more videos that I like, if you see me come say hi, but for now I'll most likely be asleep listening to this. I know my younger self did, and I guess history repeats itself. Have a good day y'all
And read Homestuck, I want more people to read it as I want the fandom to become popular again as I am in it and I was in it very late (December 2020)
I mightve not had a dsi but I had a 3ds and I remember that from my childhood and this sound just ever so slightly reminds me of it
You mean the New Nineteenoh 8,5B DS
Because the 3DS has this same menu theme but remixed to sound less compressed.
Still have my DSi and after hundreds of hours playing on it, it works like factory new. I still remember the christmas day I got it and the picture I took to commemorate the occasion.
I remember hearing this music on my Wine Red DSi XL, I used to mess around in the sound app loads of times, according to memory and very few images when doing a close-up.
this makes me feel happy
I still remember playing my dsi for the first and boy. I had amazing games like Mariokart ds, Super mario 64 ds, Mario party ds, and new Super mario Bros. It's too sad that Nintendo doesn't make any portable consoles other than a switch. This was the first system I've ever got, and I still remember it. Turning it on, hearing a startup music and menu music. My Dsi hinge broke, so I play on the 3ds, but it's still not the same. This will be nintendos best console because of the nostalgia, the games, and so much more. Thank you for bringing me back with awesome memories.
My first console, got a 3ds now and the music brings me back
A few years ago, we let someone we knew borrow the DS for their kids and then they sold it without our permission. Family photos, my math streak, and one of our games...gone to some random for maybe $20. Not sure why, but I recently got the urge to listen to this and get flooded with memories.
I was so fortunate to own a ds man.. hours upom hours of memorys this device gave :')
I never had a DSi growing up, but I will always associate this track with nostalgia and looking back on better times.
This is getting me back to my old memories
Man, What good memories I had with the DSi.
I have had my Nintendo DSi since around 2009; it still works as wonderfully as the music 🤗🎶
I’ve had my ds lite from all the way back in 2006 nearly 20 years ago crazy and it still works great
Back when consoles had ambient music, sound effects for opening apps, and you didn't have to pay for a membership to battle other players in Pokemon, or whatever game you wanted to play with friends.
The DSi was a true labor of love and I'm so happy to have grown up with it along with the 3DS later on. Thank you to the console that introduced me to one of the many game series I still love to this day.
Thank you Pokemon, and thanks Nintendo. Thank you for the good times in my youth. ❤
Its so good yet so soothing
Both the ds lite and dsi hold a special place in my heart. The best times of my life
My childhood man. Lowkey miss these days.
This Makes Me Feel All Relaxed
I miss being a kid.
this almost sounds like the 3ds home screen but with different keys and with out these: 1:14
Man, this console got me into gaming in the first place. Huge W to my parents for accepting this. ❤
So calming. rest in peace, DS era.
Omg it’s giving me memories wth
This.. I love this.. used to play my DSi XL all the time.. very nostalgic!
This music sounds heavenly.
The great nostalgia from this sound me just playing Mario kart with my brother in Mexico and just being young man I want to be a kid again... :*)
I love how the 3ds main menu music is just this but without CRUNCH
It’s so nostalgic… it’s enough to me…
I can’t help but shed a tear…
nintendo dsi batteries still last forever. i have my red one (with a whole bunch of stickers) and it still works like new.
This music used to scare the SHIT out of me when I was younger. I saw someone else's comment saying it's liminal, and it absolutely is. I guess I'm not the only one who had that experience.
You are very weird.
