    Its great to stay in bothys .you can't beat that feeling of putting your feet up Infront of a warm open fire . Flickering through the darkness of the night . Esp when its blowing a hoolie outside . Your warm and dry and no wet kick to dry when you get home epic 👍👍👍

    bothys are meant for travellers needing shelter so why not use it. its not like you are going to turn people away if the weather turns bad and someone turns up and needs it for safety, might change the video but its for everyone to use. it would be a bit different if you were having a party in it and intimidating other hikers/travellers

    Long time bothy user, going back to black and white days.
    Also a volunteer for the MBA ,to pay back.
    I would say at busy bothies ,50 percent bring tents anyhow.
    There's always been a convention not to share generally estate bothy locations and some other private ones. One I paid to stay at last year were quite explict that they wanted no mention of it on open social media.
    Stayed at that bothy myself about this time last year after being over to an MBA bothy futher east.

    There's some tactical support police type lads patrol the area and I've been pulled 4 times in the area for hammock camping on waters edge , so would now go higher up on fells . Not everyone shares the leave no trace camping , raven crag was chocker one night , fires going , cans laid about , it's a shame . Thirlmere is a beautiful area and way too easy to get to but if folk respect the wild camping codes will still be able to enjoy these beautiful places

    I can't understand why it is a "secret"
    Bothy's are there to be used and as long as you are respectful (unlike those who built the fire ring), I see no harm in anyone using them, if they were only used by a handful of people every year, they would soon fall into disrepair.
    I would suspect that most of your viewers by the nature of the channel would show such respect

    • @dawnmoriarty9347
      @dawnmoriarty9347 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume it's "secret" as in not publicised/advertised. Could be landowner liability issues if someone gets hurt. That's certainly a concern amongst Irish landowners

    • @Lee_Proffit
      @Lee_Proffit หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dawnmoriarty9347 As most bothy's are free to use and often maintained by walking / climbing clubs, I don't think that there would be any liability issues.
      I think that it is more a select group wanting to keep it as there's, which I can kind of understand, but by definition bothy's are free for anyone to use as long as they respect the place

    First off, I love your videos since I've subscribed about 2 years ago or more.
    Just a tip like you've mentioned, have the simplest intro/slogan like you have with "Get up, get out & just be that person" is as epic as it gets! No need to explain to any people who are only opinionated without facts. Best thing for them, let those who follow you jump in on them and drop your own facts from time to time to show how small minded they can be. Focus on your channel, living & just being that person.
    Thank you in advance for being you. Not much realness in people these days, slowly coming back into fashion lol. You don't need to explain yourself to any of us, you just being you is enough for those who are following you on this journey.
    About camping in bivouacs. I completely agree. It's been a tradition for all explorations. I don't see the issue in it as they are all over the world, especially on the Appalachian trail as a good example every 20mls+ for anyone to use as they see fit.
    Love the videos bud! Shout out from your Bhoys across the pond in Ireland. Best of luck with your channel in the future! 🍀👍🏼
