Its great to stay in bothys .you can't beat that feeling of putting your feet up Infront of a warm open fire . Flickering through the darkness of the night . Esp when its blowing a hoolie outside . Your warm and dry and no wet kick to dry when you get home epic 👍👍👍
We have lots of bothies in the Highlands, Scotland. Theyre there for the campers, walkers etc. Make good use of the Bothies. Not doing any harm. 👍👍🙏💯🙏👍👍
bothys are meant for travellers needing shelter so why not use it. its not like you are going to turn people away if the weather turns bad and someone turns up and needs it for safety, might change the video but its for everyone to use. it would be a bit different if you were having a party in it and intimidating other hikers/travellers
@davidjacobs828 Sleeping in a building is not even CAMPING let alone wild camping lol. Bothies are great tho if needed. Dan knows this. Was an enjoyable watch either way
Ho Dan. What a lovely place you've found. I don't see any problem if campers want to spend a night in them. As long as nothing is left behind and it's not vandalised. Of course I know you would never do anything like that. Your a top man. Thoroughly enjoyed this video
Great looking place, the other 2 blokes that came were a pain in the arse. They should have buggered off when they saw you were there first. Cheers from Australia.
I wasn't taking the mick honestly, but yeh looks cool ,and yeh I love camping, but I would definitely stay there, even on my own, looks cosy, safe, ❤staysafe guys, thank-you 👍, hope you had a good time 👍
Long time bothy user, going back to black and white days. Also a volunteer for the MBA ,to pay back. I would say at busy bothies ,50 percent bring tents anyhow. There's always been a convention not to share generally estate bothy locations and some other private ones. One I paid to stay at last year were quite explict that they wanted no mention of it on open social media. Stayed at that bothy myself about this time last year after being over to an MBA bothy futher east.
its a non mba bothy mate so people just trying to prevent it from getting trashed.i regret giving the odd location away in the past but i think the majority of us have stopped giving out locations. pleased you enjoyed it 🔥👍
That fishi and potato is lovely and a good portion. The price of that brand now is really expensive, they are probably the best brand in my opinion, thr curry ones are really nice too
I know bothys are for everyone.... But if came across so little space I'd camp outside. Who wants farts, snoring and space invasion??? Just a miserable ride when you can be in your own tent.
Looks really cozy Dan and it's there to be used, as long as we all leave it tidy for the next people alls good. Where did you get the sleeve for you cup?
Hello mate, I'm fairly sure if you're not meant to be using the bothy there would be a lock, a warning sign saying 'keep out' or a fence etc. Enjoy it, leave nothing behind but brain cells and memories as ol' Hazey would say!😂ATB👍👍👍
Dan it is good that you sleep inside of that old home that way noone can come in your bed with you. not like here snakes move bears and other creatures lurk in the night :) As long its you Dan doing what you love to do we are not leaving .:). Cheers Love ya Barbie FL
Cool spot, looks like company came late, looked like they were thinking bloody snoring too😅, if you proper responded to everyone you would never leave the house. Safe journeys mate
I totally agree that there is no reason not to stay in Bothey like that. Having said that, you don't need to justify the fact that you stayed there by warning the few viewers you have left not to post negative comments. This channel is dead & done. Stupid videos of the non existent haunted woods that you spend all your time camping in told me all I needed to know.
Love this channel!! Makes me so motivated to get out so much so myself and friends have planned a camping adventure summer next year so thank you so much for the encouragement 😊 also thank you for uploading 😄
Also i don't think it's a bad thing sleeping in them as long as you of course leave it as it was, which i am sure that you do. I think its a good thing getting it used thats what it was built for.
Different people have different ideas of what's weird behaviour and scary. Personally I'm not a fan of going to night clubs, but a nice solid bothy on a stormy night is delightful, especially with the right company
At the end of the day no one has the right to dictate to you what you should or shouldn’t do. Do what ever you like mate, it’s your life. You will always get bellends commenting on stuff being negative.. been watching your videos since day one. Be happy that’s all that matters 👌👍
There's some tactical support police type lads patrol the area and I've been pulled 4 times in the area for hammock camping on waters edge , so would now go higher up on fells . Not everyone shares the leave no trace camping , raven crag was chocker one night , fires going , cans laid about , it's a shame . Thirlmere is a beautiful area and way too easy to get to but if folk respect the wild camping codes will still be able to enjoy these beautiful places
If you use them then you'll likely sweep things out, or fix something if you can, thereby extending the life of these buildings. Checking the chimney isn't blocked etc. They're for *using*, use away 😘
No point worrying about what others think. Just crack on and enjoy yourself. The negative comments are probably from people who have never even had a go at any sort of wild camping. Great video as usual 👍🏼
Awww now Dan don't hate on me :) but every time you said FISH my brain heard: MY FIRST WIFE ..... (NOT YOURS or mine, only had one wife so far but you know brains go where brains go when they do go off )
Unless there are people who are in a life/death situation, where their safety depends upon using the bothy, what difference does it make if someone else is using it? I would imagine, should that be the case, you would relinquish the bothy to them and make alternative arrangements for yourself. Then ignore the nay-sayers and do what you want!
Hello Dan , You carry on mate , and do what you are doing , those Bothys are for the use of anyone who is out on the Hills , What you are doing is not harmfull , If it was the middle of the winter , that might be different , but as I see it At least now , people who are new to the area , will know where there is shelter . 😊👍
I can't understand why it is a "secret" Bothy's are there to be used and as long as you are respectful (unlike those who built the fire ring), I see no harm in anyone using them, if they were only used by a handful of people every year, they would soon fall into disrepair. I would suspect that most of your viewers by the nature of the channel would show such respect
I assume it's "secret" as in not publicised/advertised. Could be landowner liability issues if someone gets hurt. That's certainly a concern amongst Irish landowners
@@dawnmoriarty9347 As most bothy's are free to use and often maintained by walking / climbing clubs, I don't think that there would be any liability issues. I think that it is more a select group wanting to keep it as there's, which I can kind of understand, but by definition bothy's are free for anyone to use as long as they respect the place
First off, I love your videos since I've subscribed about 2 years ago or more. Just a tip like you've mentioned, have the simplest intro/slogan like you have with "Get up, get out & just be that person" is as epic as it gets! No need to explain to any people who are only opinionated without facts. Best thing for them, let those who follow you jump in on them and drop your own facts from time to time to show how small minded they can be. Focus on your channel, living & just being that person. Thank you in advance for being you. Not much realness in people these days, slowly coming back into fashion lol. You don't need to explain yourself to any of us, you just being you is enough for those who are following you on this journey. About camping in bivouacs. I completely agree. It's been a tradition for all explorations. I don't see the issue in it as they are all over the world, especially on the Appalachian trail as a good example every 20mls+ for anyone to use as they see fit. Love the videos bud! Shout out from your Bhoys across the pond in Ireland. Best of luck with your channel in the future! 🍀👍🏼

They are a lot more remote a lot of them than this one. Definitely welcome places when you are in deepest Scotland in the Scottish weather.

@englishwoodsman
I think these bothys are perfect for wild camping .
Great video...
@davidjacobs828 But its far from wild camping
@@JonHindley
It's exactly wild camping , as in camping FREE as opposed to paying for camping on a campsite .

I can vouch for the fact that Dan uses Tents all year round , he does not use Botheys unless the weather is blowing a storm .
Cheers Dan😊
i think if a bothy is available then use it ,great video
I don't say anything normally but it looks beautiful keep up the good work
Secret!!! Makes it more fun
My suspicion is that it is "secret " because the owners, probably United Utilities, don't want it known about to stop it getting trashed.
What a great place, I love the bothy camps. They're rare which makes us appreciate them more. Another great video Dan 👍
It looked a cracking little spot. A warm fire, great views. If it wasn't ment to be used it would be locked, stay safe Dan atvb 👍🦊

When did wild camping started with have to be a modern tent wild for a reason
4 grown men sleeping together in the same room when your half hour walk away from the town and cat park.
