Hello Adam, thanks for tuning in, mate! Glad you enjoyed. Yes, it's a great little bothy this one, and Ilin a great location too. Definitely worth a trip to stay overnight.
Hi Ryan, it is my first time watching one of your videos. Well done for doing your best. I wouldn't have touched it especially for risk of infection. Just set it out the house and set it ablaze with fire. Pure filth what some ppl would do. They could have took it out ans burnt it to ash. Sorry you had to endure that, but hope your enjoyed yourself. You seem a decent guy. Thanks very much, mate, I'm glad you enjoyed. Yes, it's an ever increasing problem, and I tire of seeing it. Nice one for the sub, it's much appreciated. ATB, Ryan.
Hi Ryan, thank you for this video! Never knew it was there until this so it inspired me to go and make a video there too. We found your entry into the log book and gave the Wild about Wales channel a mention to our few subscribers. Awesome, thank you again.
Thank you, mate, much appreciated! It's a great bothy in a beautiful location, I've enjoyed the nights I've spent in there. I'll take a look at the video when I get a chance. Thanks, Ryan.
Oh bless your heart, i love the way you look after your dog, and you respected the Bothy, when others don't, yes good to leave a gift for other travellers, and you cleaned up afterwards, great video cant wait to see some more.....
Good on you for cleaning the Bothy up - did the same thing at Nant Syddion recently - some of the things that people leave behind or lay down on the floor boils my blood. On my channel if interested. It was a goodun. Re-this bothy it has a lovely view across Craig Goch eh? I imagine the Devon people enjoyed it. Well, good going. Just a simple question. I've been on youtube 13 years. I wonder if you can tell me how you get nearly 700 views in less than a day for a bothy that's not a honey spot? Like many I'd love to be as fortunate. All the best. Mark
Thanks, Mark, and to you for doing the same. I will take a look at your Nant Syddion video when I get time, I enjoyed your source river Wye walk, nice easy watching. My last 3 videos have been getting lots of views, I'll be honest, I don't know how. The only thing I can think of is I've been using Instagram as a platform to promote my videos, and I create a short on TH-cam for each video I make - I think this helps a lot. If I figure it out I'll be more than happy to share it with you, mate.
@@wildaboutwales Alright there bro. A pleasure and a pleasure to see you at the bothy. Yeah, I'm sure there are tricks that I haven't even sussed out or tried - sharing them would be much appreciated. Ah, the Wye source - I have a few videos up there. It is special. Thanks. Hope you enjoy Nant Syddion another Cambrian classic. Have a great week ahead.
@@wildaboutwales In 13 years I've done that bro. My thumbnails are good, descriptions and SEO and my vids are always beautifully edited. Ah, it's a wonder.
That bothy looked immaculate when you left there mate, well done. I don't blame you not taking someone else's shit in your car. Some people shouldn't leave the care home 😂. Never done a bothy overnight but done my lunch in a couple. No pressure, but I'm now in a routine of looking forward to your weekly videos. So keep them coming 🤞
Thank you, mate! It's a great night in a bothy, my second one here and I really enjoyed. You've always got that little bit of worry of who'll turn up though, it looks like a few idiots had stayed here judging by the comments in the visitors book - I was lucky I had good people turn up on this one. Glad you're enjoying the vids, mate...I'll be keeping them coming, going to get some hikes in soon 👍🏼
Really enjoyed this one, Ryan! Some excellent camera shots mate! Glad to see your eye for a video is as good as your eye for a photo! And the place looked immaculate after you left, fair play.
Enjoyed your vid! It's strange, isn't it, that the person that basically vandalized the bothy with human waste, actually made the effort to trek out there to do it-so one assumes that they have done it before, and will do it again-guess that's they get out the great outdoors.
Change is as good as a rest, Ryan ! The bothy certainly looked in a far, far better condition after you stayed👍 What is it with some that can at least clean up after themselves? Let alone leave what you discovered. Makes me wonder if there's a lower subspecies of homosapien living amongst us..... Well done again. J
It's a great location, unfortunately it's hit and miss these days if it will be empty or not. Shame you didn't get it to yourself. Thank you for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Great intro! Can I also add that it's great to see collection of rainwater and a toilet you can flush with it! Everywhere with a roof can collect rainwater, it's a great idea if someone can get a barrel in (I say this because I know I can't and have respect for those that make these places good). I really like that there is a formal toilet. I know that not everyone respects the "dig your own hole" method and I am sure that the people who lived in these places back in the day had at least a "long drop" privy with a bucket of earth. Add some ash from the fire when you go and it isn't as likely to smell bad. Solves the "messy camper" problem and it is a system that worked well for a long time. If you can make one like the one here with a flush then even better.
Firstly, I was going to say you eat better on nights out than I do at home - but after seeing Toby's portion I think he does too - min Ryan you spoil him rotten with the markies...I couldn't believe how many there was amongst the rest of the stuff plus that load of sausages next morning...lol 😂 I have looked over at the bothy many times but never walked over and had a look at it - it looks idylic from the other side of the res. I instantly recognised the map the gentleman (Jack) was showing you with the Teifi Pools - I have camped by the side of Llyn Egnant a few years ago with a friend - we have a video of it on the channel. I also know the bothy he was talking about. I think others should watch your video on how to leave bothies after use - well done you. Was going to ask - is it tradition for the cake to go with the whisky - it looks like coffee n walnut? atb Al
Thanks, Alan! Toby seems to have a huge appetite as soon as we get outdoors, he's always running around and digging so he needs the calories. Yes, it's coffee & walnut cake - it goes well together on the palate with whisky. It's beautiful from that side of the Res, even more so in the summer. It's best to get there from the northern end of the Res, it's very boggy though, even in the summer.
Love your adventures 🤍 ooooh those meatballs looked gooood ! If them other 2 was there while I was cooking Id b like norhing 2 c here honey ! No sharezy sharezy 😁 any man that cooks his dog nice food like I do !! Is a good geezer 👍🤍❄️
Hi Carla, glad you're enjoying the channel and thanks for watching. I drag him with me everywhere I go in all weathers, and he never complains, so i have to spoil him 🙂
I love the Elan valley and have been visiting it, from London, for the last 30 years. My two boys love it there too. We've passed this bothy from the road opposite many times and I have often wondered whether it was a private home or not. Thanks for your work.
Those same rules apply here too, unfortunately they don't seem to apply to some people. Yes, you've got some cracking bothies up there, I will be visiting some on my next trip up to Scotland. Thanks for watching.
A good tip, once the stove has got going close the doors, it will seem hotter with it open but that is radiant heat also will burn more fuel with doors open, any 'convection heat' what you want will go straight up the flue and will not warm the air in the room just like an open fire (Only 5% efficient) only the persons close to and in front of the fire will feel the glow heat. That is why many stoves have a glass panel door/s (not so some bod can leave it open) so you get best of both worlds, also can hold on to the fuel much longer by controlling air intake to slow runaway heat up the flue. Gaz UK.
Good advice, thank you, Gaz. Unfortunately the glass is missing on one of the doors on this fire. I'm hoping the MBA may have fixed it by now, as it gets cold in there during the winter. ATB, Ryan.
Earned a sub from me, loved the way you checked everything before letting your dog in and for cleaning up to an incredible standard. Never understand people that can carry stuff to a bothy or on a hike or to the beach etc but can't bring their rubbish back home when it's lighter. Never stayed in a bothy but there's a lot to be learned from your video. Stayed for a long weekend in the area in an out of the way place, beautiful area, I had always called it Elan like the way you pronounced it but have heard some people referring to it as Ellen valley, wasn't quite sure which was correct . All he best.
Thank you for the sub and welcome to the channel. It's a great little bothy this one, I've had a couple of great stays there. Funnily enough, I've recently discovered that it's pronounced El-lan (L+Lan) so I've been pronouncing it wrong for years. It's funny as I hear most people pronounce it as Elan, like we do. ATB, Ryan.
I really enjoyed the video, very relaxing to watch, thank you. It was lovely to see how well you treat your dog and also how considerate you are of your surroundings. I have subscribed and look forward to checking out your other videos.
Another quality video 👍. But again having to clean-up other peoples mess. I think thats why I never fancied staying in a bothy. You don't know what you are going to find and who's going to turn up. Also I like to buy Toby a collaspible bowl for his sausages, but I'm sure he don't mind as long as he has them. No wonder he likes camping 😂.ATB 😉
Thanks very much, John. Yes, it's a bit worrying if anyone will turn up, luckily I had pleasant visitors on this one. I was reading through the bothy book and it looked like a few idiots had stayed there on a few different occasions - just glad I didn't choose one of those nights. Toby's plate went missing overnight from outside the bothy, which was strange. You're right though, he didn't mind 😂
This was the first bothy I stayed in a couple of years back. A big party of lads turned up for a party so ended up in my tent with my the dog as not to disturb them. Did have a few of their beers mind 😂 I’ll head back this year and see if I can get to stay on it. We hiked up for the visitors centre. 👌🏻
That's the only thing with a bothy stay, it's hit and miss if you'll have visitors or not. I hope you get to have it to yourself for the night. It's nice to sit and relax by that fire. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Fantastic video, shame about that hazardous find especially as there is a toilet attached which a lot of bothies don’t have, well done for clearing it up. That said it looked like a cracking night with good company and whisky with cake and that fire was awesome could almost feel the heat.
Good man, Keith. I'm sorry I didn't take it, but I'm sure you understand why. It's a shame that people can't just respect the bothies and the work you put in to maintain them. Thanks, ATB, Ryan.

Only just discovered your channel and glad i did. I mainly wild camp in Peak District and Yorkshire Dales, always with my border collie. Loved this video although it sickens me to hear of scum leaving such rubbish behind. The same leave no trace obviously applies wherever and its these few low life that ruin it for us all. Anyway great channel and love your welsh accent 😂.. not sure but think its south wales🤔
Thanks for tuning in, mate, and I'm glad you enjoyed! Welcome to the channel. They're great dogs to have aren't they, good camping companions. I've yet to venture up your neck of the woods, it's on my to do list though. Yes, mate, South Wales, it's a Valleys accent. ATB, Ryan.
Great video! Hats off to you for leaving the place better than you found it!! I just don’t understand people’s mentality about just leaving their trash behind for the next person! I camp here in the States and it’s just awful what people leave behind! Absolutely no respect for the camp or the people coming in behind them! Like you, I’m hauling out more than I brought in. Give Toby a big hug for me! Love him!
Thank you, Chris, I'm glad you enjoyed, and thanks for watching . Yes, I don't understand how people can just leave their mess everywhere, especially in the great outdoors - well done for doing your bit, it's a shame we have to, but it's good we do. I shall pass that on to Toby from you 👍🏼
This is the Flextail Tiny Pump, mate. I've put a link up to it in the kit description. I've just purchased the Flextail Zero pump, it comes with rubber adapters rather than the hard plastic ones. I've still yet to use it, so can't say if they'll make any difference. It may be worth researching though.
Incredible what kinda stupid and primitive people are around. Can't understand those. Good to see that there are some, who really make a difference. Thanks for the video! Whisky from a glass - that's what I call style! May I assume it was a Walsh whisky? All the best, keep on goin', cheers Michael
Thanks, Michael! Yes, you cant even escape them in the wilderness of the mountains anymore. It was a Scottish whisky, Glenfiddich 15 & 18yr olds. No doubt I'll be pouring a glass of Welsh whisky soon on one of my next camps.
I didn't see any rats, but I think there had been a problem with some common rats in the building. We've only got 2 breeds of snakes over here, and you rarely see them.

Thank you, buddy! I'm glad you enjoyed.
Fantastic video hi from the west of Ireland
Thank you and thanks for watching. Greetings from Wales.
Really enjoyed this mate and that food looked amazing. Fair play for cleaning that place up not many would do that.
Thank you, mate! Glad you enjoyed the video. ATB, Ryan.
I've liked, shared and subscribed. Really enjoying the content especially the scenery and the info.
Thank you, it's very much appreciated 👍🏼
You are the man.
Lol, thank you, Des.
Beautiful area and really nice accommodations ( after your cleaning)! Sorry to had to handle such a mess! Overall great video !
Thank you and thank you for watching 🙂
ATB, Ryan.
The whole video is great, but I mainly wanted to comment on well you look after your dog, he's a lucky hound.
Thanks, Colin. He's a great dog and we're lucky to have him. Thank you for watching. ATB, Ryan.
I really enjoyed the video, very relaxing to watch, thank you. It was lovely to see how well you treat your dog and also how considerate you are of your surroundings. I have subscribed and look forward to checking out your other videos.
Thank you for watching, ATB, Ryan.
enjoyed watching
Thanks for watching, Ronan. ATB, Ryan.
Thank you, Martin. It was indeed a nice evening, and I enjoyed that fire. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
Cracking vid! Good to see the right thing being done when so many bogans don't. Give Toby a Cush from me.,.x
Thank you, Kellie. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. It's a beautiful bothy so it deserves to be looked after. ATB, from Ryan & Toby.
Excellent to see a responsible use of a Bothy keith Boot maintance officer Grwyne Fawr PS I disposed of the Sh?? , thanks again
Good man, Keith. I'm sorry I didn't take it, but I'm sure you understand why. It's a shame that people can't just respect the bothies and the work you put in to maintain them. Thanks, ATB, Ryan.
Fab As ever !!!
Cheers, bud 👍🏼

@@moog37-j3b Thanks so much, it's nice to hear you're enjoying the channel. I'm sure you'll have a great time in Wales 🙌🏼
I shall pass that on to Toby from you 👍🏼
awsome vid just subscribed to your channell from darlington north east
Thanks, Neil, much appreciated . Welcome to the channel, mate.
Is that the Flextail pump 1 or 2 mate? The adapaters fall off mine, annoying. Thinking of upgrading.
@@wildaboutwales thanks mate
There's a new generation who don't give a fuxck if they leave shit/mess/rubbish. That meal you did gets a 10/10
I'll take a 10/10. Thanks thanks for watching.
Wot! No cheese and buiscuits?
Good point. That would've gone nice with the whisky.
This is the way!
Some people are disgusting but you sir are a gent
Thank you, Heather 🙂
That's glamping. Why do people carry so much? It's basically an aisbandb. Can, bivvy, knife and a ferro rod .
I've done plenty of bivvy camps, so I fancied trying a bothy camp for a change to enjoy the experience.
Iam from Australia why do they call them Bothy’s
Hi Neil, thanks for watching. I believe it's from the old Gaelic language. 'bothan' which means hut. ATB, Ryan.
Are there rats......?? I Abhor rats/snakes....
I didn't see any rats, but I think there had been a problem with some common rats in the building. We've only got 2 breeds of snakes over here, and you rarely see them.
Ryan good video.Toby is lovely dog.I use to have a Staffy just like him he eats well and seems to enjoy himself.🐕🦮🐕🦺
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, he's a good dog, I'm lucky to have him. Thanks for watching. ATB, Ryan.
