When looking at the game objectively, Shadow's gameplay is factually superior to that of its past games. Tighter controls, fluid gameplay, good gunplay, the proof is in the pudding.
I feel like one way that Shadow the Hedgehog could have easily been a lot better to stomach was if it decided to let you replay levels you've already beaten without making you go through Westopolis 10 times to get the true ending. I understand why they didn't but it feels like much more forced way to extend play time
in terms of vehicles i get it; sonic himself has used karts, snowboards, street boards, skateboards, hang gliders and the tornado. but here, they're so slow and clunky and the only purpose i saw them was being damage sponges.
Who said the game is non-canonical? Was that just a result of all the people shitting on the game unfairly? Because I think everything to do with Gerald/Maria Robotnik, the ARK, a Project Shadow, and Black Doom being the progenitor of Shadow are all canonical.
I really enjoyed this video. I personally think this is one of the better Sonic games. It's no Adventure 1 or Mania, but I think I like it better than Heroes.
I think one of the biggest issues with this game is that it's designed around replayability without going through the effort to construct its levels in a way as to _actually_ make them replayable. Westopolis is a straight shot to the finish no matter how many times you play it. While you can decide to go for the hero or dark mission, your fundamental experience through the level isn't going to be much different besides having to stop every two seconds to kill an enemy. While on the surface you'd think that these extra missions would help with replayability it honestly just makes the problem worse because while it is certainly not fun to kill every enemy in a level once, it is far worse to have to do it 2, 3, or maybe even more times depending on the level. It feels like the game is almost trying to ensure that these extra missions are as intrusive to your gameplay experience as possible.
Oh absolutely. I think that westopolis was the absolute WORST possible first level they could have chosen for this game, and it leaves a terrible first impression. It's a shame as there are quite a few good ones out there, but a lot of the more common path options default to "Kill x enemies".
I found this purely because I wanted to find someone on TH-cam who didn't just use this game as a butt of a joke. Great takes! There are some very valid criticisms for this game for sure - but a lot of iffy complaints too that seem to underline elitist Sonic attitudes that everything after 2001 was terrible. People moan about the camera and handling, but for the most part I had far more issues with Heroes and Adventure 1 when it came to controlling the characters at high speeds - and with the possible exception of the knuckes/rouge stages in Adventure 2, it gives you far more scope to adjust the camera to look around for secrets/objectives. The gunplay is definitely dated - but it does feel taken out of classic run&gun franchises, so despite the inaccuracy it is still pretty fun and satisfying to use. I genuinely liked the choose your own adventure format - it felt like an evolution of Adventure 2 with the hero and dark stories - although having a final story does kind of undermine all of that. The mission variety is also a valid complaint - and I feel like with the linear stages they should've had "Wipe out x number of enemies" rather than wipe out all the enemies - as some of them are so hard to find, it takes all the pace out of the level, and you just end up doing the neutral mission. Especially Westopolis having easily missable enemies past the goal ring - and Lost Impact for being...Lost impact. I also feel that they could've made the factions a bit smarter - like having their aggression to you be based on your hero/dark bar, or mission completion - to avoid the fact that your allies will often shoot at you. I get that's open to exploitation more - but realistically most casual players probably aren't going to try and game the system like that, so it's kind of a moot point. I also kind of wish instead of forcing in a meaningless two player vs mode - they expanded on the co-op a bit more. I was so amazed that they brought back the player 2 mechanic from the classic games - and I would've loved to see it utilized more - particularly having the option to actually control dooms eye and give him at least an attack. The game is far from perfect - but it had so many neat ideas that I would love to see them attempt again with modern technology and capabilities - maybe something a bit more akin to Fallout - get missions about each maps, some hero, some dark, some neutral, and some with different solutions depending on what you wanna do. Obviously not as complex as a huge RPG - but I feel like making the hero and dark missions feel like part of the story, and not just tacked on to linear rush to the end stages would be better implementation. I have subscribed to you, will definitely be keeping an eye on your work :D
Ok dude, "hell" and "damn" are not really swearing, and can you get over the gun thing already? Did anybody complain and Eggman and E102 Gamma using guns in prior games?
Excellent video, shadow the hedgehog really had some great potential to give shadow’s past some light, but alas it wasn’t the case and we were given a pretty directionless attempt at turning sonic the hedgehog into a devil may cry esc world. Thank god forces at least made shadow seem like how he was in adventure 2 and heroes with episode shadow and some moments in TSR. Maybe there’s still some hope for the edgehog yet, but I’ll be waiting.
I have, actually, and it's really fun but I do think that requiring you to S-rank every mission is asking a bit much to unlock it. It would have been much more satisfying if it just unlocked after clearing last story. Maybe save the S-rank unlock for a multiplayer skin or something.

One of my absolute favorite sonic games

Do you think Adventure 1 is better than Adventure 2?
@@mbii7667 depends, for progression and structure i would say 2, for controls and tresure hunting the first one
Also, you didn’t mention how unlike the Adventure games, they used more than one button for specific moves
2 YEARS LATE SQUAD WHERE YOU AT?!!!?!?!!?

The gunplay of Shadow the Hedgehog was flawless. The auto aim works every time!
Shadow the Hedgehog is seriously my favorite Sonic Game of all time.
Is just a perfect average game that is a little enjoyable

Nice video,it held my attention. I feel like this game had potential.
Great video, Looking forward to your next installment. 8 )
5:00 I remember that giving me nightmares!
Underrated game ! It's honestly not that bad :)
I can’t believe you predicted sonic x shadow generations. Lol
Good video tbh. Shadow is best girl.
Thanks fam
“The voice acting was pretty lacking” lol yeah that's a kind way to put it. But Fucking Sonic Adventures: Shadow the Edgehog edition was my baby!
Why does everybody hate on PS2 Shadow? That's the version I had and it was never buggy and was just as stable as the XBOX version.
Me too, and it's even worst for me because the colors are reversed

Please talk about E-102 Gamma Character?
Have you ever played Expert Mode?

JakeVidya It also shows how slippery Shadow can be (especially with the circus level)
This is the worst defense of a game I've ever seen. You praised like one or two things about the game and most of it was about the potential it had.
Fuck off
