Comparing Gen 2 to Gen 5 is hilarious, the only relative comparison to have is Gen 2 to Gen 3 at most but GEN 5?! Comparing GEN 5 to GEN 2 is mad. There's about a decade difference when the games came out LOL

On the subject of locking certain Johto pokemon to postgame, here's a couple of gen 1 pokemon that also would have been nice to have earlier: Cubone Diglett (fast and arguably OP in the maingame with earthquake, but it's frail so it evens out.) Pikachu (There are almost no new Electric types, especially with the lack of Mareep in Crystal.) Electabuzz (same as above). Grimer Kangaskhan (you already have Tauros, so why not) Mr. Mime Also why don't we get any fossils? Not even one?

I played this as a child and loved it, but as an adult I've put far more time into it than I ever could have as a child. It isn't really nostalgia so much as I genuinely think this and the remakes are some of the best games ever made.

Yes but i still like gen 2, but as someone who has played it a lot i can accept that it is fundementally flawed generation not for everyone and that the pacing drags, the level curve is ass, the representation of gen 2 mons in gen 2 games is very poor and kanto does not pose much challenge till last 2 fights so it feels even more like padding. Altho i like gen 5 most as an adult i think 2 and 3 take my heart in childhood.

Randomly stumbled across this video while I’ve been playing through Gen 2 Johto again. As a longtime fan of the remakes, fully committing to a Gen 2 playthrough finally after all this time of me telling myself I wanted to but but just… didn’t since why wouldn’t I play the version with more up-to-date mechanics?… it’s only given me more of an appreciation for Johto than I already had, moreso than my actual first main series game in Pokémon Pearl. (Every version of Sinnoh that isn’t Platinum is objectively horrible.)

Gen 2 isnt just amazing by itself tbh. Its the trifecta of gen 1, gen 2, stadium cross compatibility that makes it great. All these games enhance each other when combined.

Chikorita/Bayleef is a good Pokemon to set up with if not win against Whitney. With moves like Reflect to negate the first boost of Rollout and Poison Powder to whittle her HP away, it's a great tactic especially if you're lucky enough to have Chikorita start as a female. Also, in Crystal, you had a 1% chance to encounter Sneasel in Ice Cave, the room with the Rock Smash boulder

No. I think crystal is the definitive way to experience the game boy games. I was born two years after crystal came out, and played the heck out of these games on the 3ds with my 1 year younger friend and we both enjoyed it

I’m a huge fan of gen 2, and I like your video about it, however one thing I’ve noticed that nobody takes into account when reviewing these games is the games we came from, just the sprites alone were a massive improvement and at the time peak design 😂 yeah it wasn’t that great looking back but coming from red blue or yellow it was a massive upgrade visually and mechanically, alot of your comparisons are to future game mechanics but that just a part of learning! Eventually they figured out the sloppy mechanics like the phone calls being random and not very game changing for you

I'd argue having so many Gen1 Pokemon in Johto is not a bad thing. You see, most kids were STILL fascinated by Gen1 pokémon back then, Kanto still felt "new" to most fans, as gen1 games had came out in the west so late. None of the problems you mention I felt as a kid back then, it just felt like more content. It even makes sense geographically if you think about it, Johto and Kanto are physically connected together, it makes sense to have gen 1 pokemon in johto, and gen 2 pokemon in Kanto. I believe the games could've been better, but they were already 2 years behind schedule, and considering the amount of content they were able to fit in a 1MB cartridge is mind blowing. I don't think they had bigger cartridges back then.

Get a life, they are not that hard, you can literally finish them using only one Pokemon (whichever you like), and finally it's not that deep. Play the game and S H U T T H E F U C K U P ✨

Yes. Yes it is. And for me Hg/ss is equally overated. Bad rival. Bland region. Postgame is boring too (Class instead of mass) And worst of all: That atrocious level curve. Gen 2 brought VERY important changes and new things i give it that in that regard it is absolutly important and good. but the games themself? Mediocore at best.

i loved them when they came out, but at this point i can barely stand playing gen 1 or 2, why play them if i can play Fire Red/Leaf Green or Heart Gold/Soul Silver

GSC are absolutely the worst games in the series, funny enough HGSS are like the 2nd best in the franchise behind the master piece games of BW2

Both tlou 1 and 2 don’t take advantage that they are games. They are just movies with generic third person shooter gameplay in between the scenes. Granted the first game I guess the player grew to like Ellie along with Joel and I didn’t think tlou 2 was that bad but I can’t deny the pacing fucking sucked

Revisiting GSC after all these years was enough for me to see they have loads of flaws and have the move sets suck. Alas at the time though I probably was too excited about it being new and upg certain things to care. Still salty about Crobat not getting the Sludge Bomb Tm tho.
