  • This is how I get out of a creative rut. Follow along as I paint a palm leaf in watercolor using the negative painting technique. If you’re dealing with a creative block, I hope my advice helps.

I appreciate hearing your emotions as you go through the painting. I feel the same thing but didn’t know anyone else experienced nervousness at different points.

Yes, I think we all have those feelings sometimes. I get nervous during every painting.

You’ve given me ideas for some older pages - I won’t call them paintings yet. Thank you!

Fun. Negative painting is a great way to change up unfinished work…even if it’s just practice.

    Jackie,
To prevent the tape from tearing the paper, use a hair dryer on the tape to soften the glue and then gently lift it a bit at a time in the same direction, and it works.
Make sure to use a hair dryer as a heat gun is too fierce.
I got the tip from watching the fab' Australian abstract artist Scott Swinson.
Thanks for another great video, take care, David xxx

Those are beautiful colors that you used, and the result is lovely. I have that same sketchbook both in the size shown as well as a smaller one.

Thank you. Do you like the smaller sketchbook? When I’m pressed for time, I like to paint 5x7” size, so I’ve been eyeing the smaller one.
