  • We're taking you behind the scenes with John and Blake filming a multi-day wedding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Video was a huge priority for this couple and it allowed us to get some awesome behind-the-scenes footage to share with you. John walks through his process for each part of the day and Blake shares some helpful shooting tips and tricks. There was so much great information we had to split this into two videos. Part one covers the day before the wedding including a portrait session with the couple, the rehearsal dinner, drone shots, and much, much, much more. Make sure you're subscribed here on TH-cam so you don't miss part 2 dropping next week.

    Thanks for this. I got into making TH-cam videos during the pandemic (with an iPhone 12) and just recently am getting into shooting other people. I’ve been binging your pod and can’t thank you all enough for the resource you’ve been!

    love this. when i watch wedding films of your caliber it can feel like it's really complicated to make a film like that, but seeing being the scenes is actually encouraging to see that your filming process is fairly simple and doesn't need to be stressful:)

      So glad to hear it helped! It’s the same thing every wedding hopefully. Two people getting married. The rest is just details. Keeping it simple, focusing on fundamentals, and being kind to people, is my strategy.

    Hey guys, random gear question, would you be willing to post a link or reply to this comment on the name of the HMDI to HDMI cord that Blake is using for his gimbal? I've been searching all over the internet to find one as thin as his that doesn't tug on the camera, but still can deliver high resolution image. Thanks in advance!

    HI
    I watch the backstage video with interest. I notice something that unfortunately I also notice in my shooting, and for which I am looking for a solution by asking other filmmakers.
    I'm referring to the gimbal, it seems to me that this one in the video is a zhiyun crane 2, like mine, and I notice that the stabilization is not absolutely smooth in the movements (just look at the edges of the image at 4.07 minutes for example, I still have to look at the rest) at this point I think it's a problem with the gimbal which actually can't stabilize so well.
    I thought it was a movement problem, or my 50mm 1.8 which is probably not stabilized, but the strongest doubt remains the gimbal, which should do its job.
    I continue to watch the video with interest.
    CIAO!
    Scusa per il mio inglese 😄

    This is so great! Can you tell us a little more about your audio set up for the rehearsal dinner? I caught that you are running XLR into an amp, but how were they running the entire venue sound? And does that ever affect whether or not you can bring your own mics? I'm lugging my own PA system to most rehearsal dinners and it's a little exhausting lol!

    • @HowToFilmWeddings
      @HowToFilmWeddings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We go more in depth on the full film inside the course. But the venue had no sound, and the musician ran their instruments into the amp. We brought a mic and cable and plugged into the amp. It projected the audio and we recorded it into a portacapture X8 at 32 but float, and put a Sony tx660 on the mic in a sleeve as a backup

    Man, here where i live, Perth WA, no way you can sit outside on most days and throw on a mic, it is just to windy. Most wedding videographers here overlay speeches from indoor recordings as outside is mostly unusable. It can be done with wraping up the mic or big de@d cats but most avoid it.
    Was laughing at the question, answer, i am marrying him because he has kind eyes. It is interesting that people give these shallow throw away answers about their partner. 🤣
    Very surprised, the gimbal operator didn't use some more dramatic shots, you have the, still slow moving monopod shot and you could of got some nice low shots, high shots, parrelex shots to give a different look/variety. Also some really closeup shots as you have the time to stylise the shoot as you are not under time pressure.
