    Very nice footage and commentary, from all. I have had my T16 Pro for 4 months or so without any issues, well other than my own self induced issues. This is my first transmitter as I am new to the hobby. Currently have 2 planes and 1 small quadcopter I am learning to fly los. I love learning from all you kind folks on TH-cam who generously share your time and knowledge. My next major decision is googles! Thank you again for what you do.😃👍

    I'm surprised they let mode 1 flyers near the school, let alone in it.

    Very enjoyable, great to hear the banter at the club. We have a fair few mode 1 flyers at my club, and some the stunts they can pull would be harder on mode 2. I'm happy thumbing away on mode 2 and couldn't contemplate changing. It's like first person shooters, I can only play using a mouse and keyboard, but my daughters are happy using a joypad.

    I've owned the T16 Pro for around 3 months now, it's been awesome , haven't had any QC issues with it and using it with crossfire is very versatile.
    To be honest , you won't be seeing Access protocols going on anything other than FrSky Products , but most of us don't care about Access , it's dead to us which includes FrSky as a whole.

    I've had my T16 for about 4 months and fly about 10 packs a week and have had zero issues with it. I really like it, I do wish you could tighten the gumballs up a bit more but you get used to it and I've come to like them a bit looser.

    Mode 2 for me is where i started with fixed wing. For me the right stick represented what a control stick would work like in a real plane like a warbird. Pull up, push down, bank left right. I like it on a quad as well, flying fpv. again, correlates well to orientation. Love that plane. Hope i dont regret putting that one back on the hobby store shelf for later. Ah, too late. Hope its still there. Not sure how much longer i can hold out on a t16, looks like a good choice. I recently purchased an xlite s to fly a tinyghawk s and a th freestyle. Hopefully ill like it. Great review, thanks for the effort. Got me fired up, sorry about the small story....haha. haappy flyin

    I had a loose switch (SE) after a while. I contacted support and they asked that I re-seat the ribbon cables and that did the job in fixing it. So if you have trouble, you might try that as well.

    I did see a couple times where you mentioned you were fighting the gyro. I have been flying my Yak 54 3D for years and have never had issues with the gyros. I suspect you are not quite in the standard AS3X mode. There is a mode that is called general flight which has a heading hold on ailerons. I have flown in this mode and it feels very strange at times. You want to be in Standard AS3X mode, which is the center switch position on channel 5. In this mode I have never experienced the feeling of fighting the gyros. It's a very nice indoor 3D plane! Nice flying and thanks for sharing the video!

    The jumper t16 Pro is a really nice radio. A few guys I race with swapped to it from a x9d. I’ve hd a qx7 the last 3-4 years and am thinking of getting the t16pro or the new radiomaster t16s once it comes out. Very similar(it may actually be the same but a different case) but with a black case and a couple more options.

  • @billsomrak
    @billsomrak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, they keep on improving this Jumper TX ... quite improved since the original version. Still, nothing will switch me from my X9D+ . As for Mode 1 vs. Mode 2 ... well, you know way back when I started flying 'digital proportional' rigs, (Kraft Gold Medal series), and I was flying competition (aerobatics and pylon racing), I flew Mode 1. It seemed most natural to separate the elevator (left stick) & ailerons (right stick) for doing really precision aerobatics (like being able to hold a steady amount of aileron during the 3 consecutive axial rolls, whilst feeding in minute amounts of dn/up elevator to keep it 'on a string'). Helped in pylon racing too, as you neared a pylon, you rolled left with your right stick, then listened to your flying mate tell you when the flag man indicated that you'd passed the pylon ... then crank in up elevator to whip it tightly around the pylon. After my competition days were over, there was a significant break in my activity, and I flew some 3 ch. rigs that had throttle on the left, and rud/elev. on the right .. used in 2 - 3 meter gliders. Then came another break before getting into quadcopters. Seemed that all the 'toy grade' manufacturers were pushing Mode 2, so that's the way I went, when I upgraded to my Taranis for a decent rig for higher performance quads. Its always been my contention that a native Mode 1 flyer can always nominally fly a Mode 2 model, but not the other way around. Don't know if you remember an old American TV show from the 80's called "The A-Team", but as "BA" (Mr. T) would say: "I pity the fool who never learned to fly Mode 1!" Ha ha! Cheers!

    Phil is the man! like me you guys are mode one as are most of the flyers on the Euro continent and his comment is correct re separation of the two main functions aileron / elevator.

    Hi Andy, I got T16 plus version, difference with pro is only that it has hall gimbals, external multi module and JumperTX, after half year using it, I’ve got one (module) button stuck, for the rest all working fine. And nobody talking about, that major problem of the jumper multi module is, that it not giving full RF power that they declared, on mine is around 70-80 mW instead 150mW what should be. Causing shorter flying distance, that could be. But when you are using crossfire, it transmitting full power, that why your battery drains faster. Check yours radio.

    Ive had mine ship with a broken part of some complete other product (the part didnt resemble anything internal that might have broken). Also my enter key suddenly had the same exact function as the return key which was obnoxious. I didnt reach out for support for the return key problem because i thought i might have to return the radio and i didnt have the patience for that. The solution was luckily easy to find on an RC forum: swap the ribbon cable ends on the affected buttons. Weirdly enough in the forum, the person posting the solution had the same issue with 2 completely different keys (page button behaved exactly the same as the system button)

  • @grahamjw75
    @grahamjw75 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had an issue with my model select button suddenly taking me to the telemetry screen so I lost the ability to go into my model settings, however after I took the back off and popping the ribbon cable out of the three main menu button pad area and reinserting it has worked fine since so my only guess is the contact pads are very tight together and the ribbon cable must have been slightly askew, other than that issue the radio has been great and I am loving the functionality.

    The reasons people give for using Mode 1 or 2 are really strange to me! I use Mode2 , it makes more sense to me as that's the way a joystick in a real plane works , pitch and roll on the same stick ( unless its a yoke of course in the plane - but its basically the same ). If Frsky start selling XM+ or all their rx's with locked down firmware then I'll just buy crossfire. If they start preventing BNF whoops etc from using D8 or D16 - again I'll stick crossfires in them.

  • @EnglishTurbines
    @EnglishTurbines 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have always flown Mode 1 Andy...and your Master of course is quite correct..When it comes to precision aerobatics with a PLANE..having ailerons and evelator on separate sticks is superior. Girostabilised Quads are a different story, in general they are far easier to fly anyway Mode 1 or 2, it doesn't matter...🤔🤔🤔😀😎 Listen to your Master and stay on Mode 1....lol.

    Andy, I have that Yak. If you like that, you will love something like a Twisted Hobbys Clik. I believe electricwingman has the latest 21 version in stock. You get a 35" span EPP model that flies so, so slowly and does lovely, graceful aeros indoors in a small space. If you have time to put one together, you won't be disappointed. I don't find the AS3X bit of the Yak fights anything as long as no special modes selected but the Clik can just take a standard RX :)

    ive gotta be honest Andy, i never thought i would see a video in the T16 from you and its a very welcome surprise. Respect 10+ for acknowledgement of Frsky's behavior in an attempt to stop this Tx being sold and i also note you said that Frsky 'Claim' it has copied the Horus internals and you didn't say it 'HAS'.
    Its been proved that the internal pcb is nothing like the Horus, something im sure you saw for yourself when you opened yours to do the stick mod, they don't even use the same CPU :)
    You are familiar with Ardupilot, you should check out the Yaapu telemetry widget, it takes telemetry fed from the FC to a Frsky Rx via a inverter cable and give full telemetry on the Tx screen including GPS mapping but you may have already used it on your Horus or the more basic version on the X9D?
    Regarding battery life, its not hard to add an internal charger for easy charging and also upgrade the battery to ether a much higher capacity 2s lipo or make a 5000mah pack using 21700 li-ion cells
    The new protocols that are added to the multi protocol are super easy to update, you just download the multi module firmware, put it in the firmware folder on the Tx's SD card and navigate to it in the Tx's menu and it will flash the internal module in about 3 seconds :)
    For T16 mods, Check out this RCgroups thread if you haven't already seen it- www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3332697-Jumper-T16-hardware-hacks

  • @echobeefpv8530
    @echobeefpv8530 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good review Andy. I am coming from a Spektrum DX6, the reason I bought the T16 Pro is I wanted to be able to buy whatever protocol of quad I wanted. Spektrum is a lot of times either not supported, or sold out. I've had to open the radio once, to reseat the roller cable. I am on a Jumper facebook group, and unseated cables seem to be a most common problem. I chose against supporting anything Frsky, and will continue to do so. They can Access protocol themselves right out of business, and good riddance.
    As for battery life, I don't need Crossfire, so my battery life has been pretty good. I vape, so I already have a lot of 18650's. Good for about 6 hours of flying, I figure. For the price, a good radio, but now I would buy the Radiomaster, unless the price is wildly different.

      Lots of reasons. Most giant scale planes are scratch built which means they either sourced the materials themselves. Bought from plans or at least bought from a hobby shop. Most hobby shops will stock spectrum. Futaba etc and they can cost upto 600 dollars. A giant scale plane can cost upwards of 10 thousand dollars and while transmitters like this are capable. There is a disconnect between the quad world. Club world. And giant scale world.

    Its my daily driver. No issues so far. The only thing I do not like is that I can not charge the batteries via the USB. Combined with the cheap tray thats a turn off for me. Buuuuuuut the upcoming v3 version will have USB type C with internal charging. And the thing I absolutely love about the T16 is that you will be able to upgrade your current version.

    I completely disagree with Phil regarding mode 1 and 2. Imagine a table balanced on a ball, and the table has a pole sticking out of it from the center, and your right thumb on the end of the pole. moving your thumb, you control the left to right, and the front to back, but not yaw or up and down. It feels completely natural to someone that isn't trying to make mode 1 work lol.

    • @friendlyfire01
      @friendlyfire01 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, real world, an airplane's stick controls like the right stick of mode 2, and the left stick operates like throttle and rudder pedals.

    'The only other Mode1er' in the UK'? How dare you? Glad to see you've finally discoved the YAK (discontinued). I think Saranrap is heatshrink. This isn't.

      a joke of course. But yes very naive view. wheelspin models still sell it. I think the previous version is discontinued but this one very much alive? Cheer Dave.

      @@AndyRCchannel I accept your apology. Wheelspin don't list it. Horizon only list the replacement aitframe. It is easy yo turn off the AS3x, you replace the receiver with a standard one.

      Saran Wrap is the American version of what we call Cling Film...So it's not Saran Wrap as I'm guessing it has pressure sensitive adhesive..🤔🤔

    • @daveday5507
      @daveday5507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EnglishTurbines The adhesive is applied to the airframe. There is no adhesive on the film. The UK equivelent would be cellophane.

      @@daveday5507 You may well be right, but Saran Wrap is just American Cling Film.

    Jumper T16 is nice. Here is basically what is an upgraded T16. Can charge without removing the battery and a few other "improvements". www.hobbyporter.com/radiomaster-tx16s-16ch-24ghz-multi-protocol-opentx-radio-system_p2164.html Edit: Then you start talking about it after I post above. LOL!

    love my new Jumper T16 Pro . Had it a couple of weeks now, and its great. Here's a link to a battery mod which allows you to charge your radio with a charge port, and two battery size options. Thanks for the video Andy (www.rcbatterykit.com/index.htm)

    Stop talking about modes, lol,...it is never too late to learn a new one in addition. I startet with M1 in the 70s and after a hobby break, 2013 I had to learn M2 ( instead M3) for helies .. and quads. Well, I changed 2016 even for my planes into this mode and it feels completely natural for me now. On real planes ail and elv are on the same stick, aren´t they?

      If you go on the Jumper T16 Facebook group, you will see what Andy means. QC issues are well known, with ribbon cable unseating being the most common. It's not hearsay, it's common knowledge. And yes, I had to re seat a ribbon cable after about 2 weeks use, the roller stopped working.
