  • Welcome to Addicted to Watches, today we’re looking at a watch that is pretty special. I know I’ve said that pretty often on my channel but it’s definitely the case here. The watch we are looking at today has a dial that is handmade by a master craftsman. It is a black lacquer dial that is in the traditional urushi style which you can see on display in tableware and other items from Japan. They often contrast the deep, rich black colour with gold and this watch does too, but in a more subtle way. This is the SARX029.

    I got one of the urushi lacquer dials from the 1970s. (Seiko U.T.D.) The dial still looks pristine today, eventough its a watch with 0 water resistance

      That's awesome! There are some beautiful watches in that utd line

      @@addicted_to_watchesthe urushi also seems to be quite tough. My U.T.D. lived a rough life. Definitely try a U.T.D. someday, they are incredible watches.

    Another great review. I really like that you try to find interesting JDM watches or unique pieces for review. Keep up the good work!

    It’s a stunning watch. I’m not really a fan of dress watches nor Roman Numerals, but it works well here. Thanks for the great review.

    As I was watching this, I wondered to myself, wouldn't it be also beautiful in green. And than you mentioned that there is! It's a pity they don't make it anymore.

      There is one currently in production. Have a look at the SPB407

    I have this JDM piece. A rich and deep beautiful black dial. IMHO, and as you mentioned, my critiques are the indentations for the pinion and date window which interrupts the glass dial.

      To be honest I kind of like that about the dial. It gives it a more handmade feel. It could also embody the Japanese idea of "wabisabi" which is about finding beauty in imperfection

      Hmmm, IDK about that. It must be the OCD in me. Curious to know if the GS version has has the same indentations as I cited.

    The clockmakers four is not any more or less correct than the subtractive four. Both were used by the Romans, and the subtractive four actually came later.

    I own this watch. I’ve had it for about 3 years but it just sits in my closet. Unworn. Still pristine. I love it but now think I want to wear it more. But I rarely wear suits and almost never go out to nice places that require a dress watch. I should probably sell it while it’s as-new but as I said, I don’t think I can. It has a hold over me. 😅

      Just call it an everyday dress watch and start wearing it ;)

    Could of given it a clean before doing the macro shots, looks like it has dust particles all of the dial

    • @addicted_to_watches
      @addicted_to_watches  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately a fair bit of that dust is under the crystal, likely from when it was last serviced, so getting in there to clean it out will take a bit of effort

      @@addicted_to_watches that's bad, obviously had a really dusty work area and no blower was used before putting it back together. It's a easy job, I've done a few of my watches when I've spotted dust inside. Have a go yourself.

      I will definitely get around to doing it soon!
