Grand Seiko for under $1000?! | Second-hand watch shopping in Japan

- Today we're doing something a little bit different than usual. We're going shopping! Japan is a great place for second hand shopping, especially for watches and in this video we visit BookOff, a chain of second-hand stores that buy and sell pretty much everything.
We'll see some very unique, rare and interesting watches but are the prices right? Watch and find out.

That was fun. Some very nice pieces there. Think I liked that vintage Omega Seamaster, several vintage Seikos along with a few Grand Seikos. I don't think I could have walked out of that shop without buying something.

Where would you recommend to look for gs and ks vintage watches in Tokyo?
Nakano Broadway is definitely worth a visit though they won't have so many vintage pieces. Ueno has quite a few little vintage shops

Generally no, they don't negotiate
Do they have an online shop? Do you have some recommendations for online shops for watches in Japan, which ships internationally?
Bookoff only sell books online, not any other items. You can check yahoo and rakuten, though they are marketplaces rather than shops

I'm not too sure. You could try Nakano Broadway since there are lots of shops there but most are higher end. Depending on how long you're staying and whether you know any locals, looking online at yahoo auctions or rakuten might be an option too. You could also try your luck at places like Bookoff and 2nd street

Would you say Seiko vintage watches like the Panda, Kakume, Pogue etc. cost less in Japan?
Maybe a little bit less but they are still quite expensive here too

I will be living in Tokyo soon and I am looking for a specific Seiko, that has been mostly made for the asian market, so I believe I could find it somewhere :)

It's called Bookoff. There are also Hardoff and Hobbyoff shops too. Some have lots of watches, others have none so you just have to check

are these watches from bookoff quaranteed genuine?
Japan in general is usually pretty strict about fake stuff and at bookoff staff inspect the items before they buy them so while it's possible to get a fake, chances are very low and you'd be able to return it if it turned out to be fake

I'll be visiting Japan from the US in March. I admittedly don't know much about BookOff. Are all watches legit? I was shocked to see speedmasters for about $1400.
Yep, they're all legit. Since recording this video the prices have probably gone up just like everything else. Also if you're in the big cities like Osaka and Tokyo the prices will be higher in general compared to the less popular places like Nagoya

Thanks for subscribing! In Tokyo id recommend going to Nakano Broadway. Prices aren't super cheap but an amazing selection at a range of shops including Jackroad. In Osaka try Watch-Colle. It's a little shop that has some interesting second hand pieces. Otherwise just look for Bookoff Bazar or super Bazar locations, they're the ones with lots of stuff, not just books

2. There's a big watch market in Japan

buying a $1000 GS is like buying a quartz royal oak...leaves a lot to be desired
You never know what you'll find at these places. I've heard about some pretty good deals
I disagree. I don’t like the new pieces with to pay their price. I’ll take GS finishing at a fraction and save for some other grail pieces

I'm not that familiar with all the different speedmaster models, was it a moonwatch? Bear in mind this was a few years ago and prices will have gone up since then also

They are there but I'd say the risk is generally pretty low. Japanese shops are pretty strict about that kind of thing
