Here are timestamp for the video
00:02 Difficulty in focusing due to constant distractions
00:38 Obsession helps your brain decide what is important for your survival
01:09 The prefrontal cortex helps sustain attention on important things.
01:48 Obsession is a state where your mind and body are in sync, fully focused on a single goal.
02:28 Obsession is a state of enthusiastic committed focus over a long period of time.
03:06 Obsession brings the ability to work hard towards a goal without feeling like you have worked hard.
03:40 Focus is driven by a change in value system in the brain
04:19 Detachment is easy, but obsession is difficult.

That is so true! Whenever I really focus on just one thing, it feels like an obsession and during those moments, I do way more than I thought I could like when I'm studying

Dr. Sid is on the money with giving a detailed description of his choice of the word obsession in his presented context : enthusiastic, commited, focus, over long period of time ( a state of mind ).

Thank you for making this video.
1:49 how to increase the understanding of whats important? To get that state of obsession.
Suppose, I have defined whats important to me, my goals. But there is no energy/motivation for execution. Whats wrong here?
How to deepen the understanding of whats important?
Also make a video on "questioning". That would be greatly appreciated.

The correct word is commitment, not obsession. Committing to something takes conscious effort and decision-making; it is a conscious choice to choose something despite all odds.

Hey Sid, i discovered you some time back and honestly, my raw thoughts and burning curiosity about wanting to know about myself, found a meaning in neuroscience, thanks for delivering such cool videos ❤
Apart from that, not sure if its approporiate word, came across another similar term but less intense than obsession, i.e. BELONGINGNESS, a state of identification with something or someone, that should be a part of us but isn't currently, correlates us thinking as need for survival and an extension of ourselves. Gives reason why we seek some things direly.
I would love if you could comment on what you think ❤

Lately I've been obsessed over a person and I kinda tend to disagree that we can't be obsessed over something in modern world. I constantly find ways to detach myself but over and over it sounds impossible and full of misery/pain.

    • @Sidwarrier
      @Sidwarrier  ปีที่แล้ว +3

This raises an important point. Because obsession is such a powerful tool, we must be careful what we obsess over.
The most transformative love stories we’ve heard are about people obsessing over each other and helping each other grow to their limits.

I think any obsession can never be fully healthy like in Harvard say you have to only work on 2 things. You can't manage it all we are not fully optimised being so i think its better to destroy some aspect of life in some period of life like a deal with a devil and be wary of your choices
