The Nation of 38 People (& the Criminals who Founded It)

- In the middle of the Pacific Ocean lies a small island country known as the Pitcairn Islands. Although there are four of them, only the titular Pitcairn Island contains people; 38 of them, to be exact. Equally as strange as their current existence is the story of how they ended up there. In 1790, a mutiny on the HMS Bounty led to the first settlers finding their way to Pitcairn. The descendants of those settlers are still living there, after going through a slave uprising, decades of total isolation, and a horrific court case which tore the island apart. Now the Pitcairn Islanders are attempting to get people to move there... before their little territory becomes too small to save.

Anyone tempted to move to Pitcairn after watching this video? They could always use some extra hands
Hey man, I love your videos and I’ll always watch em’
My first video was the North Korean tree one ;)
I would like to move to Pitcairn Island. I just hope that they are still accepting immigrants.
@@BryanChandler1905 As far as I know, they're still desperate for new company! Let us know how it goes!
@@A-Grain-of-Salt Funny love your channel
Can’t believe diddler island was discovered by a boy on the HMS Swallow…
Kind sounds like an episode of flapjack
"Diddler Island" makes it sound a lot less appealing to me.
Disclosure: the video just got to this part, about sexual assault trial.
Love this channel so much this man has never missed
Thank you! I think I've definitely missed once or twice but I appreciate the support!
Always happy to see you release a new video!
I sincerely hope you continue making videos and gain the recognition you deserve! Your work is on par with that of creators with hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
One of my new favorite channels. These are informative yet not dead ass dry. Love it.
Man, those times were wild. Kind of shame, that we live too late for geographic exploration, but too early for extraterrestrial exploration.
Here before this video has 100,000 views
Already know all about Pitcairn islands thanks to Extremities (Wendover productions channel/podcast), but your retelling of the story/history is glorious 👌
Love Wendover! Never watched the Extremities episode on Pitcairn but I'll check it out!
Ah yes, the Pitcairns. The territory that made the UK eligible to join the Pacific-centric CPTPP even though it represents almost no economic presence in the wider Pacific trade network.
And that's why they keep 'em around!
Anyone remember the Cartoon Network show 'Mike, Lu, and Ogg' about a girl from New York who becomes an exchange student on an island?
And all the natives have British accents and European names and adopt a few British customs despite still being stereotypically 'native'?
And the reason they're like that is because the original inhabitants were Brits and Pirates who crashed landed there?
And all the inhabitants are related to each other?
Yeah, it seems the real life inspiration for that is a LOOOOT darker, huh?
I would like to immigrate to Pitcairn Island. Do you know if they are still accepting immigrants?
Children require special entry clearance from NZ because of a "child welfare charter". Even still they say they encourage families with children to settle there, although the school closed in 2023 according to Wikipedia.
8:16 They have their own TRAIL OF TEARS?! 😭
Deary me, that’s fcked
I didn’t notice that thanks for the laugh
It's always the British man I swear.
Apparently this island was important enough for it to have its own flag emoji 🇵🇳
I lost it at 6:06 the delivery 😂
Have to assume yt won't be monetizing this one, given the mentions of adolf & various horrible crimes lol
I genuinely don't know why your channel hasn't blow up more. Maybe people think its related to Summoning Salt speedrunning channel? Anyhow I think every group of drunk guys has thought about taking over a micronation at one point and this is probably a great candidate.
Idk. Israel is getting closer to that every day.
If I had to guess, that settlement won't exist in 50 years. They're not replacing themselves. They'll eventually die out.
Yeah that's looking like it'll be the case. From my research it seemed like a lot of them had kind of accepted that it wasn't going to last too much longer
Enjoyed the video. Only thing is …ain’t nothing nearby Pitcairn!!
By Pitcairn standards, anything closer than 4000 miles away is nearby
Hey man! Is there any way i can contact you?
Yes there is! I've just added an email address to the channel's bio, you can contact me through that.
Im sorry, its not in your bio.
@@Justsollie Sorry, it might only be visible on certain platforms. You can just email occasionaleclectic@gmail.com, the original name of this channel
Its just so wild to think of just bringing 11 women you just met on a ship with you for sex. How does that conversation happen? Is this just passport bro ing 300 years ago?
Great video as always! May I suggest adding music on the next ones to help entertain the modern day ADHD brain?
There actually is background music! But clearly it's too quiet haha, I can turn it up

Also I've read that Tahitian girls killed some rebelled Tahitians during the "slave rebelion", so I guess they were fond of Christian and others.
