The islanders were evacuated to a small village (barely a village really) called Calshot. I grew up down the road from there. There's a cul-de-sac named Tristan Close in honour of the islanders who lived there. Knowing the area as I do, I can assure you they didn't live a "busy life" in Calshot. It's the last stop on a road to nowhere with very few people and very little traffic, so it was an ideal place to put them. It's also a tiny village of just a couple of cul-de-sacs. One on side is farmland and forest; on the other is the sea. The people just wanted to go home, though a couple did stay behind and marry locals. Interestingly, nearby Southampton is also home to the largest Falkland Islander population outside the Falklands. It has plenty of links to the BOTs.
I really enjoyed that Josh. I knew a South African couple, the male worked on Tristan for a while, and they had a son born there. Josh, In the pub someone was speaking Italian and also in the souvenir shop there was a piece of paper with the name of a small Italian town written on it: Camogli. Did you notice it?

You missed the Cat-shaped lake on the south end of the island. Return trip in '25.
What a fascinating video. So interesting! I look forward to viewing more of your presentations.
Josh, In the pub someone was speaking Italian and also in the souvenir shop there was a piece of paper with the name of a small Italian town written on it: Camogli. Did you notice it?
The Italian speaker is from the cruise ship. Definitely not a local.
@fabio55m
There are historical bounds between the island and Liguria.
After a shipwreck in 1892, two seamen from Camogli settled on the island.

@@fulvia1454 Yes, I then read the history of the island, two Italians named Repetto and Lavarello originally from Camogli landed on the island in 1892 and never left.
@@fabiom55 Gibraltar has a large number of people of Genoese origin, and there are some people called Lavarello, but none called Repetto. Others are called Pitaluga, and some of their relatives in Gibraltar moved to the Falklands.
Seems it could get quite cold there
Wow, wow Josh! Your visit to Tristan da Cunha tops all the places you visited from highest airport in the world to the worst airlines in history but this one tops everything you did !
I always wanted to visit this island!
Congrats Josh!
I thought the Falklands were remote, but Tristan takes the cake. It's like living in pre-historic times with modern add-ons. Fascinating place. Thanks for sharing. I think that's where the Air France flight from Rio to Paris crashed some years ago.
AF447 crash was nowhere near Tristan da Cunha.
@@QueenKennaofStormholt I stand corrected. It was near Fernando De Noronha
Such a remote place! Incredible that people are able to live there. Videos about such places are really fascinating!
surely you have to visit Jamestown in Saint Helena now! I hear the flight in can be a little hairy........
Yes. You must do it!
A,axing video! I love to see and hear about these isolated island communities. Pitcairn island is on my bucket list.
what did you do for 14 days each way on the ship? you should make a video about that!
What I was thinking too. What was the ship like?.
@@Ryanhothersall Same here.
Thank you Josh. I really have enjoyed your videos over the past few years. I think the travel adventure videos are my favorite.
apart from the aviation stuff , this type of content is valuable for anyone.Never knew this kind of a place existed
What a treat this was! I really appreciate the questions proposed to locals. Every time we travel, we travel to learn about another’s culture. Thank you for taking all of us to Kristan Da Cunha!
Hi Josh, have you heard of Saint Helena remote island New airport? this will make a GREAT episode since this airport is unique in many ways, do some research about it and you will come to find out it makes a Great video, specially if the airplane have to divert to the military base on another island! The airport itself have a unique story to come to be what it is today...Can't wait to see that Video!
It is so fascinating and refreshing to witness the life of a pristine island such as this.
Thank you for making this video. Josh. I've never heard of this British overseas island, Tristan Da Cunha and I'm a Brit', lol 😅
You certainly learn something new every day 😊 x
Interesante video! Abrazo desde el Paraguay .
Thank ypu for taking us to Tristan da Cunha! So interesting. It would be great to also see a video from Pitcairn, which I understand is also a very remote place with even fewer inhabitants.
What a fantastic video Josh ! Absolutely fascinating! Thanks for making this trip for the rest of us !
Excellent presentation. Compliments to Josh Cahill from the U.S.A..
You make every place sound like a magical destination worth visiting

I give you mad props. This is a fantastic and very well put together video. Most are shoddy footage and bland. You included the history, the landscape and locals. Great video.
Josh, your videos NEVER disappoint me. Thank you so much for traveling to such remote part of the world and sharing your experience with you. I feel like you do all the hard work and we enjoy the fruits. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your next videos!
What a wonderful life time experience. I would love to visit Tristan Da Cunhan
I imagine time passes slowly on Tristan, but what an amazing place far away from the maddening crowd !
I love it! I’m sure that there are hardships but the beauty, ruggedness and simplicity are quite alluring. The only thing I’d suggest: cheerful colors on the buildings.
Josh, this was absolutely brilliant, fascinating, beautiful and serene! Just lovely. Thank you so much for taking us along with you.
Probably the most interesting video by him IMHO. I had no idea that this island existed. It helps also when Josh isn't as snarky, haha. Keep it up!
Hi Josh, it's good to see you getting away from aviation for a change. This was probably one of your best videos ever, fascinating place and you gave a great insight to life there
Thank you for taking us to places that most of us are not privileged to visit. I really appreciate your videos and the opportunity to see these places. God bless you!
