You don't have to follow DI with Meta Knight's ladder combos, especially when the opponent begins to tumble. The only type of DI'ing involved is when the opponent suddenly shifts to the opposite side of where you're laddering them to, but by that point, they're usually at up b kill range in all my experience and from MK gameplay that I've seen, so that info in the video is false in my opinion. Other than that, the most complex thing about ladders are whether you should short hop or not, and I think you showed that off well for people wanting to pick up the character and practice ladders. I hope that in the future, you also talk about Bridge Combos, which involve the use of Dair. We don't get to see many Meta Knight guides so I hope you guys can keep this up! ♡ Edit: One more thing. Up tilt > Up air isn't true unless you're up tilting at 0%, but you're not gonna get a ladder at that low a percent and knockback. If you get an up tilt, you can certainly set up for one, but characters like, say, Luigi, Yoshi, etc. can nair and possibly break your up air attempt after up tilt. Another edit, I apologize. You didn't cover Ladder Resets, where is when you begin a Ladder Combo and fast fall to the ground while hitting another Up air, and then hopping back up to continue the ladder after reseting your jumps. It's useful for stages with platforms or if you think the extra height is enough for shuttle loop to kill. Oh, and you didn't talk about how Up air > Nado is a true, but tight combo ender if you if you wanna kill but not suffer the consequences of up b'ing offstage and sd'ing as a result. I know this is a beginner guide and that I'm being too nitpicky, I apologize.

I might get Discord just because of this thread. Been an MK main since Brawl. What they did to him is really a shame, especially with the derpy new Final Smash. Would like to learn more as I mainly have a strategic button-mashing technique (I know, stupid, but I generally get second to my Toon Link master friend), and would totally love to develop in my strategies and tactics. I love the series (still hold Brawl as my fave) and want to get better. At this point, I would be totally crushed by any experienced player (especially a heavy damage heavy knockback fighter). People like you two could really advance my game skill. I just have to get a system to play any smash game on first... and a Discord... I just recently got a phone, so I've got some ground to cover. It's encouraging to see cultured, strategic players out there. Keep up the good work. I would love to see some character-specific strategy videos. Congratulations. Yes, you do have to follow di with MK’s combos, if you just keep going in one direction, and they go the other way, you will miss, also, tumble makes them escape if they di, they will drift too far and get out. But it’s completely true when not in tumble(even if they sdi), but tumble is not terrible, because if your opp is in tumble you will be able to connect nado. A good guideline for this is if the last 2 u airs in the combo connect, nado will be true Ladders work even with di out there is also a third option other than sh or fh, you can also idj, which is important sometimes when you need to get in between sh and fh height. U tilt > u air doesn’t even work at 0%, it most of the time just doesn’t work period, when it does work, it works around 20-40%
Avakrr I was playing MK from the start but honestly I’ve dropped him in favor of my secondary dark pit. I love MK but he feels like discount smash 4 meta with a worse neutral and combo combo game. Mad respect for you keeping with him though. I really hope he gets buffs. If he does I’ll probably try my lot with him again.
Avakrr same used him in brawl (didn’t know he was broken I wasn’t into competitive and didn’t really notice his Op-ness) and will keep on using him, his nice recovery and his jumps help me go back on stage every time and don’t get punished when I go deep for edge guarding
I’ve always wanted to learn this character but there was no good guides on him. The next guide that would help me a lot would be a guide on his neutral. I hope the meta on this character gets pushed to the max!

if u want to know how to play mk neutral it like how bayo plays her neutral. ur job is to move around and pressure the opponent with movement like pretending to walk away then punishing them, overshooting, taking advantage of stage control, and just general walking. Then u want to punish them with a combo move like dash attack, dtilt, grab, or jab for early tech chases. The main ways ur getting kills is either ladders or edgeguarding. Also why i said just use jab because jab is broken on mk because it completely safe on some char shield, set-ups up well into tech chasing, can set-up edgeguard, catches jumps and landing it just the end all be all

the best dash attack to get is tipper dash attack because the other dash attacks get more heavily influced by di making it harder to get the first up air
Dude this helped me so much and it’s really easy that’s to you cause I never knew there where different hit boxxes in his dash attack and that’s what I was doing wrong the whole time

Down throw does work for starting ladded if they di in fullhop up air If they di away dash forward shorthop up air, you can also get a forbidden reset if they do di away
Meta Knight mains: I feel rewarded for putting up all my time and effort into these ladder combos. Next smash game: replaces current up air with Star Allies up air. But in all honesty, I don't care if Meta Knight is the worst or best character in the game. I just want to see his moves align more with his canon moveset. The canon moveset has a projectile, a low-lag side-b, and a counter instead of a teleport. Might I mention that his canon up-b is like Brawl's?
Personally I like to do this combo with Tap Jump on, but that's because I use Tap Jump since Brawl, basically 10 years. That's also the reason why I don't play certain characters like Yoshi.
Nice video but you really should have mentionned the sweetspot on the first hit of shuttle loop because it helps a lot when you want to kill without platforms extensions which is important because the ladder isnt safe on hit most of the time if it doesnt kill. (to get sweetspot upB 1 you need to be close horizontally to your opponent and around the same height so its usually just one double jump in and upb, this kills MUCH better than an additionnal dj uair->upb)

If anyone wants to practice using fast fall for meta knight ladder combos, just go to training and make your cpu donkey Kong. Put him at 20 % and practice your ladder. You’ll have to fast fall to complete the combo by using this.
Okay, so meta knight is a good character and I main him. I do agree that his timing for the combos is very hard to learn. I’ve been playing him since Brawl and had to learn how to play a whole new character. If you do decide to play him, I suggest you do training a lot to get the timing right. Meta knight is a fun character, but very hard to use.
After the first two up airs when you fast fall you can go to the ground and get a full combo. Btw you can also finish with make or neutral b if you are far off the stage.
Thanks so much. But I would like to point out that shuttle loop has like the worst aerial drift in the game so if you use it off stage you will die. No question. That is why the tornado finisher is so important. Because up special does not really kill and if it does not you die.

I recently get used so much to Up-/Down Air combos with him. Honestly the pure Up Air into Shuttle Loop combo is too niche and unreliable while dragging off stage and finish with nair, fair or tornado feel significantly more consistent.
@@MetaTrixx I shouldn’t have to cancel a move that’s unblock-able over and over and over lol I know how to cancel it, its just that grabbing is such a take over move that it should have some sort of punishment or limit if that’s all your do for 3-5 moves in a row. FIrst of all great video. I'm planning to purchase Nintendo Switch and SSBU soon and therefore I don't have any experience with the adjusted mechanics or the heavily nerfed Meta Knight since I've only played Brawl for 5 years. But with this I would be able to execute the ladder combo more quickly. Controller cam and everything else was pretty helpful. But I just can't understand how I am supposed to fast fall while holding the jump button. I understand that in order to avoid buffering you must hold the control stick upwards(in order to jump) but doesn't fast falling require you to tilt the control stick downwards for at least a moment? Then how am I supposed to hold the control stick upwards when I have to fast fall in order to adjust my position to the 45 degree line???
Oh meta knight, I really like meta knight but he reeeeeally frustrates me in smash ultimate as opposed to smash 4. He does practically no damage. He’s like sheik with a worse neutral. I’ve tried my damnedest with him but it’s always felt like my attempts are for naught. Especially when compared to other characters. For example, one of meta knights biggest combo starters, fair, does 3% when canceled for combos while young links down tilt does 14% while still leading to follow ups. Seriously, wtf? Ladders are cool and all but they’re much more difficult and lead to much less rewards than what characters like fox, falco, young link, zero suit and especially pikachu are capable of doing. Even the samus’ and pit’s who aren’t super combo heavy have higher damage combos, a better neutral and easier kill options. His great recovery and disadvantage state doesn’t really make up for it either, it just keeps him from being low tier. Rn he just feels like discount smash 4 meta knight in a bad way.
Tbh it's very nice to see videos about exotic characters like Meta Knight or other mid tier everybody forgot !
I feel like meta knight is rarely used because of his hard to master game play. If you play meta knight well he can become a quick finishing machine.

MK is always who I return to in my times of character crisis, but most of the time he feels like dash attack the character

I’ve mained Meta Knight since Brawl. but even though he’s nowhere as good as then and his hitboxes kinda suck now, I still main him out of respect
I really like using Meta Knight but I hate how his hitboxes are so miserable, I can't even sometimes connect down air and back air sometimes whiff.

@@MetaTrixx I shouldn’t have to cancel a move that’s unblock-able over and over and over lol I know how to cancel it, its just that grabbing is such a take over move that it should have some sort of punishment or limit if that’s all your do for 3-5 moves in a row. Canceling isn’t hard, but this game is a combo game, not a grabbing game. Nice try tho 👍
When you fast fall do you let go of jump?
Bro you completely forgot about the other possible finishers to his ladder combos.. sometimes neutral b or nair are much more optimal to go for at th end of the ladder
Man no wonder people don’t play him he actually requires skill and effort😭 I’m a hero main just trying pick up a secondary against my bad matchups. I’m used to killing people at 30 and using my large hit boxes and disjoints to do massive damage! This guy is the complete opposite I actually gotta put in work with him

Yes you need to do one double jump though first. If you just full hop and hold it down, it won’t work

How long does it take to learn the combo?
FIrst of all great video. I'm planning to purchase Nintendo Switch and SSBU soon and therefore I don't have any experience with the adjusted mechanics or the heavily nerfed Meta Knight since I've only played Brawl for 5 years. But with this I would be able to execute the ladder combo more quickly. Controller cam and everything else was pretty helpful.
But I just can't understand how I am supposed to fast fall while holding the jump button. I understand that in order to avoid buffering you must hold the control stick upwards(in order to jump) but doesn't fast falling require you to tilt the control stick downwards for at least a moment? Then how am I supposed to hold the control stick upwards when I have to fast fall in order to adjust my position to the 45 degree line???
이민재 you assign the jump option to another button (like x, L, ZL or any other confortable option for you.)

Oh meta knight, I really like meta knight but he reeeeeally frustrates me in smash ultimate as opposed to smash 4. He does practically no damage. He’s like sheik with a worse neutral. I’ve tried my damnedest with him but it’s always felt like my attempts are for naught. Especially when compared to other characters. For example, one of meta knights biggest combo starters, fair, does 3% when canceled for combos while young links down tilt does 14% while still leading to follow ups. Seriously, wtf? Ladders are cool and all but they’re much more difficult and lead to much less rewards than what characters like fox, falco, young link, zero suit and especially pikachu are capable of doing. Even the samus’ and pit’s who aren’t super combo heavy have higher damage combos, a better neutral and easier kill options. His great recovery and disadvantage state doesn’t really make up for it either, it just keeps him from being low tier. Rn he just feels like discount smash 4 meta knight in a bad way.
