    Thanks for the video, Colion! We're a small company making our products here in the USA, and we appreciate the support. A few comments:
    1) This video shows two separate products by Mantis: the Blackbeard (BCG + mag) and Laser Academy (targets + phone app). They can be used together or separately, but they don't come as a kit. So when you buy a Blackbeard, don't expect the other stuff to come with it, unless you buy the Laser Academy as well.
    2) Colion mentions the trigger feel being a tad bit heavier. We don't modify anything about how the trigger functions. We don't get in the way at all. When the trigger breaks, it's releasing the hammer, and when the hammer hits the Blackbeard, it pushes the hammer back into place. There is no pre-break contact with the trigger system at all. Sometimes it feels a bit different in dry fire than live fire because the recoil impulse pushes the gun backward, there is extraneous movement, and we don't recognize the hammer being pushed back over the disconnect. It's there, but we don't recognize it in live fire.
    3) For those that buy the Laser Academy kit, it comes with an unlock code so there is no app functionality that is behind a paywall. It's all free, no subscription, no upcharges. If someone just downloads the app to use with an existing laser trainer, there are a bunch of free drills, and some behind a paywall. This funds the continuous development and support we provide (we are always adding more drills and features monthly - for no extra charge).
    4) If there are target detection issues in Laser Academy, hit up our amazing support team (support@mantisx.com, 630-551-8171) and they'll help you out. You can easily make setting adjustments in the app to make a world of difference if you are experiencing any issues.
    Train on!

    • @neobaggins3718

      They are behind a paywall with the Blackbeard which I feel like should be handled as a more robust version of laser academy. But still, a minor complaint considering how revolutionary Blackbeard is. I find myself wanting a different solution to Laser Academy too, since it’s slightly annoying to set up each time and you can really only have one target position, unless you have several newish phones and tablets lying around.

    For dark walls: try cutting out a piece of white paper that's 1-2" wider and taller than the target square and tape the target on top of the paper in the center. That should help the camera identify each of those squares in target corners. Those squares are too close to the edges, so unless you're using an 8k camera, the little bit of white in-between the black corner squares and the black (dark) backdrop the target is mounted to, will pixilate slightly turning the white into a grey. By adding more white in-between the 2 black colors there will still be slight pixelation at the edges, but the center of the added white space will register as white not grey allowing the camera to identify the targets corners. It's using the same concept as QR codes.

Unless you have fired ammo can after ammo can with your firearm and are completely confident in your capabilities to perform accurately even while under duress, this is a good option. Since I solely am a handgun man at this point this makes me consider owning a long gun sooner in the agenda than previously planned. The best range in my area is basically handgun only. It's only 25 yards and is for static paper only so I figured buying a long gun (except maybe a shotgun) would serve me no purpose without being able to train with it. This I could use at home, and still get used to the recoil of the rifle on the range at least. If anyone could tell me, does my ability to handle pistol recoil affect me ability to handle a rifle with no previous experience? I've fired thousands through Glocks, but never a rifle.

    • @patrilea8216
      @patrilea8216 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mojaxon23 pistol and rifle recoil are two separate feels. If you buy a bolt action 7mm magnum then you're going to be hurting after a few shots. A typical 5.56mm (or .223 cal) is nothing because it's buffered by a recoil spring and you can be behind it all day (I speak from experience). If you want to a decent defense weapon that isn't going to create a ton of collateral damage then a .223 or 5.56mm is the way to go. Just remember, you can shoot .223 from a 5.56 but you can not shoot 5.56 out of a .223

  • @gameragodzilla
    @gameragodzilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The necessity to reset the trigger is why I love training dry fire with my SPAS-12. It can go both pump and auto, so at home, if I want to practice with snap caps for a “dry run” (appropriately enough) for a drill, I can train in pump mode at home before switching to semi-auto at the range.
    The pump mode is slower than semi auto but live fire has recoil, so I think they even out enough to be good practice. And this allows me to identify and correct any other errors in weapon manipulation first before going to the range.

    Curios if any Blackbeard-Users have bought two magazine/battery to simulate reloading drills. I tried the Blackbeard at local Range and found the Reload Drills is what's missing vs SIRT AR-Bolt. If folks didn't like the finicky app, then, you won't like the 5 minutes wasted setting up the SIRT AR-Bolt. Once set up, you can do Reloads. Price difference is the lack of app with SIRT. Blackbeard completes the Dry Fire Training. It's like having a coach at the end...that is when I got to try it at local Range.

    went to the Mantis site almost in fear of their prices, while still a bit steep for my budget its much better than I thought it would be. I have a "budget" AR-15 that eats the cheap ammo amazingly well and has chewed through any type of ammo including the ultra cheap steel cased surplus. even with that I would be able to practice and hone my skills and quickly save money. so as soon as I can save enough money (tough in current economy) I will be picking up the AR and the handgun versions. this will help my mother in her training as well.

    I've been wanting one for a while so I finally "pulled the trigger". I received it today and tried it out for a couple hundred reps. It's exactly what I was hoping for. It reinforces bore offset every trigger pull. I already feel myself adjusting my poa without thinking about it. Obviously I can't speak to durability but so far it's 10/10. EDIT: A month of almost daily use, thousands of reps, and no issues.

    Great video! A+ filming! I was a skeptic at first and really like it after seeing how the system worked in person. I also like how you can pick a green or red laser. And I liked the slightly increased trigger pressure. Once you get on your real trigger, you should be able to pull it quicker and steadier.

    I have the Mantis X10 and LOVE IT!!!!! Like you said the only issue I have, is the having to rack the slide after each shot (pistol). I use a laser round that is held in place with o-rings, so you have to use a chopstick to push it out, but it won't eject when you rack the slide. Plus it's cushion for the FP to land on. I know you can dry fire, but I still like to use snap caps or other dummy rounds.

Only problem I had was being addicted to it and three hours later realizing I was 0n,y going to get 5 hours of sleep! Very well worth it. What works for me is a quality gas blowback airsoft gun. Not only are you shooting real projectiles but the gun functions exactly like the real thing. And if you're not a cheapskate and buy a quality gas blowback airsoft gun you also get recoil. No apps no phones just targets wherever you want to put them and you are free to roam anywhere.

    • @cordcd7

      I've thought about going the high quality airsoft route, especially since a good friend of mine showed me his collection back in the day. I forget the brand but he had the Japanese made models that were pretty much a 1:1 with their real pew counterparts. The thing about the Mantis that's nice is you can use it in your own gun. Though, getting those fundamentals down regardless of the actual firearm is very important. I'm back to being stuck on a decision to make. Having said that, now I want to drill through my house with an airsoft.
      Edit: Just remembered that Garand Thumb did a video about training with airsoft, I have to watch it still. Will check it out tomorrow.

    When my Blackbeard works as intended, it's AWESOME.
    The problem I've found is, which might be my particular unit or rifle configuration, some times I have to drop & load the battery mag a couple times before my Blackbeard wants to cycle properly.
    Beyond that, the only other complaint I have is that the initial laser adjustment is goofy AF. It would be so much easier to adjust if it moved on a vertical & horizontal axis instead of the X diagonal adjustment that it has.
