Best lubrications I have ever used in my firearms is believe it or not good old fashion motor oil. Discovered this on a deployment to Iraq in the Army( 11 B - mechanized) . The environment was horrible on our weapon systems and personal M-4’s. The CLP we used burned off to fast , mixed with the sand, and really did not fight the carbon. Dry graphite lube was useless. While maintaining our vehicle ( M2 -A2 Bradley) we ran out of lube for our coax. Well use what you have , engine oil. To our surprise this worked great no burn off, no carbon buildup, and the fine sand would not mix with the oil but stay on top of it. Cleanup was just a good wipe down. Our whole company started using it, on weapon systems and personal weapons. I still use it on my civilian firearms now. Just some info from an old soldier in the field.

Yes, long cleaning is not necessary but I enjoy it so much. The smells take me back to childhood when our dad taught us to shoot and clean our guns. It was an activity where we had dad completely to ourselves. Growing up on a ranch gave us almost daily opportunities to use our guns for fun and for work. One Sunday afternoon a month was my dad’s routine for firearm checks and maintenance for our family and the ranch hands. Nice memories.
Great video. Ever heard of the “Filthy 14” rifle? It was a BCM carbine used by Pat Rodgers in his training classes and as an extreme test case was only lubed regularly. If you put some cleaner on the front end of the bore snake and over the brush then skip about 5" and apply lube to another area that cleans and lubes all in one or 2 pulls
I like the video because that's how I pretty much clean mine except for two things. 1. I wear rubber gloves because I don't want to take any chances with long term exposure to the oils 2. I just use a vacuum cleaner with the brush attachment to get the dust off. As soon as I can afford ammo again I'll have to figure out where I put all my actual cleaning stuff.
Good basic cleaning. Cleaning after every session is the way to go. With that said, I would take the BCG apart though. It only takes maybe 10 seconds to strip it and another 10 to put it back together. I don't use cleaner anywhere except the barrel. I have found that generally most of the fouling will wipe off with a rag unless it is heavily fouled and very dry. I will also add a CLP to the front and end of my bore snake so it cleans a little as it goes through and leaves a little oil in the barrel as it comes out. Even if I deep clean and use a cleaning rod it only takes me about 15-20min though.
I use a bore cleaner for the barrel, run the boresnake till the barrel is dry. Then I'll run a patch with a little Ballistol on it, then run a dry patch, just leaving a slight sheen. I use Ballistol like this on all metal parts. Wipe with a little wet patch then wipe clean. Helps prevent rust, keeps all the metal smooth. Over time, Ballistol absorbs into the metal, giving it a seasoned iron skillet effect. I use M Pro 7 oil on the areas that get more stress.
I’m new to the AR platform. Went out Saturday in the desert had a great time. Now I have to learn how to clean it. Thanks for the video Colion. Any serious suggestions are welcome.
I use a CLP product to clean and lube. On the sliding surfaces, I use Lucas Red and Tacky. Bore snakes are great for barrels and mascara brushes are a good disposable brush that can be bent and get anywhere.

It is very simple and mostly common sense. At some point you'll need to take down and clean the bolt carrier group (BCG). There are plenty of videos on YT for that and it's easy too.
Great vid and good point. Besides, every time I completely take my bolt assemply apart I break the firing pin clip trying to force it back in when I really didn't even need to remove it for general cleaning. I used to pay to get my gun cleaned and lubed until I learned to do it myself saved soooo much money these last 5 years because I go to the range a lot and was needing a cleaning quite often
I’m guilty of doing a white glove cleaning after every trip to the range. Only because I don’t know how long it may sit up in between the next trip to the range and I was taught by the old school and was always told to clean it like your life depends on it
I only do deep cleanings on my antique firearms after shooting them. On modern guns, i do just like Colion does. The amount of cleaning involved with an AR15 is based primarily on if you have a blowback or a piston gun. My piston gun hardly ever needs cleaning.
DD Mk12 is one bad mamajama!! Don’t shoot mine as much as the mk18s but when I do get it out to play it’s just beautiful. Especially when you run it suppressed
This is useful information thank you. I go shooting about every weekend and have been cleaning every nook after every use. I will give this a go. I also “Will not comply!”
Saw a video the other day stating that bore snakes should be taken straight out of the barrel, not sideways. Bore snakes should also be replaced after 100 uses or if the fabric is coming loose.
Just spent 5 hours yesterday cleaning .300 blackout pistol, MP5, Walther P99, Kriss Vector, Shield plus. I don't shoot very often so I won't have to do another deep clean for a couple of years.
Great video! I do it the same way and use the same lube... But a few years back I went to a piston upper and the nickel boron BCG. And I've never looked back since. Everything is much cleaner and cleanup is much faster.
Same. I just keep it lubed ,a bore brush 2-3 times and run a few patches through the barrel. Every several hundred rounds. My workhorse is over 50k down range (obviously have replaced the barrel ). And it works for me🤷♂️
Thanks Colion, this is exactly the kind of cleaning advice I was looking for. I didn't know if I needed a barrel bore guide to clean the barrel. I'll just get the right sized snake. Keep on spreading the truth my American patriot brother.
This is basically how I clean all my firearms. After each time at the range, quick bore snake, quick lube & cleaning of metal-to-metal contact areas, etc.and done. A little cleaning every time and you shouldn't have any problems. Rifle, pistol, shotgun, whatever.

Well thank you for this. I have always done a complete breakdown and cleaning no matter how many rounds. Even my Nephew that did 2 tours in Iraq says you don't have to do that uncle. I think I'll chill on the obsession cleaning, the finish will last longer.
I am so glad to know that I have been cleaning my AR even my AK in the same basic way, lube moving parts and a bore snake.
These videos should get moved to bitchute and odysse so you can get some monetization for this awesome content.
Ive never cleaned mine because im still a novice and it seemed intimidating. This is so simple and straightforward
It is very simple and mostly common sense. At some point you'll need to take down and clean the bolt carrier group (BCG). There are plenty of videos on YT for that and it's easy too.
Had to change it from AR-15 to rifle to keep it from being censored 😂🙄
Great vid and good point. Besides, every time I completely take my bolt assemply apart I break the firing pin clip trying to force it back in when I really didn't even need to remove it for general cleaning. It's a good idea to keep extra firing pin clips if you plan to do detail cleaning all of the time...
Interesting, thanks Colion
I just finished my home defense Ar-15. Have a couple things I want to upgrade still. Just wanted to say I love your videos and thank you for posting them!
Beautiful content!!! Need more Colion!!!
Mr. Noir is inspiring to all for the second amendment. Thank you sir, keep up the good work.
How I clean my AR-15 -
Buys an ak.
I've finally perfected cleaning pistols, drawing from the holster & hitting controlled pairs in decent time as well as a 12g. Now that I have enough 223/556 to practice with, I can finally get to know that bad boy I've had tucked away for 6 months unfired. Color me skeered 😬
“You don’t know how much I love sexy “
Best thing I’ve heard today 😂👌🏾
Absolutely! :-)
I am glad you made this video because I would never spend more than 10 mins cleaning my AR a deep clean for me is usually every 2k rounds
ARs can run for quite a while being dirty. Most importantly, they need to stay lubed.
A simple wipe down helps.
And my wife’s booty still works after two weeks without showering but that don’t make it right.....
I'm a brand new AR-15 owner so this video was actually really helpful, thanks Colion.
COLION: I think we are all curious. Did TH-cam ban the first video? If so, did they say why? Also, has THIS video been demonetized? Thanks,
I used to pay to get my gun cleaned and lubed until I learned to do it myself saved soooo much money these last 5 years because I go to the range a lot and was needing a cleaning quite often
Lol glad you’re not that guy anymore
haha had to re-upload with the term "rifle" because the last one got taken down.
Thanks for everything. I just got my first AR 15. Ive owned other guns for years but im new to AR 15s
Added to liked videos to see if TH-cam censors this video again
Bro I enjoy every video you do! Thanks for being our voice and in all honesty.... COME AND TAKE IT.
I’m guilty of doing a white glove cleaning after every trip to the range. Only because I don’t know how long it may sit up in between the next trip to the range and I was taught by the old school and was always told to clean it like your life depends on it
This man didn't have to flex his mancave of a safe like that... but I appreciate it.
I just put mine in the washing machine.
Two years ago and still a great video with an important message.
Shout out to all of us who can’t afford the offset red dot let alone the whole set up
45 irons and dot! lol
I only do deep cleanings on my antique firearms after shooting them. On modern guns, i do just like Colion does. The amount of cleaning involved with an AR15 is based primarily on if you have a blowback or a piston gun. My piston gun hardly ever needs cleaning.
Wait y'all clean your guns?
I know, right? I've always just thrown the dirty ones away and by new.
DD Mk12 is one bad mamajama!! Don’t shoot mine as much as the mk18s but when I do get it out to play it’s just beautiful. Especially when you run it suppressed
So in the last year I've seen maybe 10-11 vids on "How I clean my rifle" and now seen 10-11 different ways to do it......
Thanks for sharing the knowledge you have of cleaning and showing me how to clean my AR!
Meanwhile AK users just spray it with water
lol...
Yup, water is good; 44 Mag, 45-70, both black powder, 'cause I can't make nitro.
I like how Colion spends a day at the range.... I spend 45 minutes if I’m lucky. I just jelly. Cheers to mr. noir. You’re a good fella.
What happened to the other one? I guess it had AR-15 in the title
This is useful information thank you. I go shooting about every weekend and have been cleaning every nook after every use. I will give this a go.
I also “Will not comply!”
They don't like "AR-15" just say "Armalite 15" 😉
Thats the correct term for it. Doesnt mean assualt rifle. Thats the maker of the rifle
@@Theman20008 yep educate em bro 👏🏾
I love it, get the parts that move and don't fuss over the little stuff like the outside of the guns.
I remember when I could clean my guns. But unfortunately I lost all of mine guns in a boating accident.
And it works for me🤷♂️
Not the tutorial I was looking for but I appreciate it
Thanks Colion, this is exactly the kind of cleaning advice I was looking for. I didn't know if I needed a barrel bore guide to clean the barrel. I'll just get the right sized snake. Keep on spreading the truth my American patriot brother.
Music is definitely something I could listen to cleaning my guns.
Here in 2023 appreciating the quick clean and the gun room.
This is basically how I clean all my firearms. After each time at the range, quick bore snake, quick lube & cleaning of metal-to-metal contact areas, etc.and done. A little cleaning every time and you shouldn't have any problems. Rifle, pistol, shotgun, whatever.
