As a client if you have a housekeeper or anyone come work for you, you should treat them well. We always provided drinks and food. Our housekeeper knew she could get any drink in our house she wanted whenever she wanted. We also provided snack. She worked til noon. We live far out in the country. We provided lunch for our housekeeper before she went to her next house. Sometimes she would decline and sometimes she would accept but that option was there. They are doing a service for you. Treat them well and you will get better service.
This is true, I had a lady who would make an entire meal at lunch with sides and we’d sit down together and eat. I’ve had some clients who wanted to work right beside me so we cleaned those rooms together. This is usually when they have a lot of personal items in the room they need to go through. I currently only have clients who would provide lunch and businesses that have drinks available. Were people and we do appreciate the client treating us kindly. Many of my clients don’t know that I’m actually an MA and previously worked in healthcare, I chose to clean because it pays over double and sometimes triple and I get to set my own hours. The number of previous clients that treated me differently until I told them that when it came up is a little sad. I think people have this idea of a person that works as a housekeeper and it’s almost always lower than themselves. We’re educated. One more thing is to be patient. The first few times we clean for you it does take longer than others might take. I take my time and get everything the first time so the next time it doesn’t take hardly any time. I won’t give a job my seal of approval if it’s not done to my standard and sometimes that takes a while. I had one client tell me they didn’t want me to come back and I could hear them talking about me in the other room saying “she’s still in the bathroom” when their whole bathroom was covered in thick dust. They had COPD and I wanted to get all the dust wiped down from the ceiling to the floor. I took that long because I know it’s not good for them to breath that in. I was working so hard to get it done faster after I heard them saying that, that I was crying from the fumes being inside the glass shower and sweating so bad. I couldn’t open the window at all to vent the room and I couldn’t breath. These jobs take so much out of me, I’ve handled black mold without gloves for around 20 min before I realized it was black mold and couldn’t breath for a week, caught so many viruses, worked so hard that I’ve thrown up because it was too hot, and pulled so many muscles. We’re trying our best, I promise. This isn’t directed to you personally, just a few insights I thought I’d add if anyone reads them.
i cleaned my floor on my hands and knees recently. It was a good clean, but I suffered from knee pain for a week. Angela is right, "it's not scalable."
A few years ago I hired a twenty-something who worked as a friend's part-time nanny to help me with housework. She "mopped" the kitchen by spreading cold water with no soap or cleanser of any kind across the floor with my mop & bucket, leaving behind a room-sized 1/4 inch deep puddle of cold, dirty water. I was shocked. Because she was so young and apparently clueless, I explained to her that the point of mopping was to clean the floor, and leave it nearly dry (to finish air-drying quickly) and not to create a puddle. She had no idea. None. We started over with very warm, clean water in the bucket, with a little Murphey's soap to saponify any grease or oil. I showed her how to rinse & squeeze out the mop every few feet, and how to dump out the dirty water and refill with clean, hot, lightly soapy water as needed. Finally, we did a quick all-over rinse with plain hot water, regularly rinsing & squeezing out the mop as we went. It was an epiphany for her. It may seem silly to put that kind of detail into a video, but there are quite literally grown adults out and about who have NO IDEA how to mop a floor.
Thanks, Jean for bringing this up. Because we train house cleaners I spend time each day with cleaners who grew up in homes where parents did all the cleaning for the kids, never gave them chores, and never showed them how to clean (for themselves or anyone else). The cleaners as adults are embarrassed, don't know how to clean, don't know what tools and equipment to use, don't know how to ask for help, and don't know the right questions to ask if they did. Thank you for your patience and kindness and for being willing to take the time to show the cleaner the proper way to mop. 🙏
@@alonzo4164 Same. I know the basics, but there is always more to learn from experienced professionals like this. I’ve been picking up some great tips on this channel - and I’m nearly 55 years old. 😄
@@AskAngelaBrown You are absolutely right about people growing up not doing chores or learning to clean. I hired my friend’s housecleaner while I was completely helpless after shoulder surgery. She was a young woman. She did not know how to clean properly or take care of things. The first thing she did was march in and put her huge sports bottle and huge bunch of keys on my antique wood coffee table! I told her not to let the vacuum touch the baseboards or furniture but she banged everything up. Down in the basement laundry room, she bashed the vacuum wand into the lower edge of the melamine cabinets, which are on legs, trying to reach as far underneath as possible. She chipped all along the lower edge. She scratched my shower doors scrubbing them, even though I told her not to spend time on that because the window cleaner was coming and he does them. She probably spend an hour on that, and was charging me by the hour. I even went upstairs and told her again not to do it, but she said, “This is just what I do.” She put elbow grease into everything, even though nothing was dirty, and even if was, you must let the products do the work so as not to scratch. She pressed very hard when dusting. She scratched absolutely everything in my home. She scratched all of my stainless steel appliances. She left sharp nicks in the handles of of the refrigerator, dishwasher, and oven. She was wearing rings and must have gripped the handles very hard. Again, for no reason. I have never had anyone in to clean since. Years ago I hired a cleaning service. The third time, two people were supposed to come. They were very late, so they sent three, then even a fourth showed up. That doesn’t work in a 2+2 condo, and I didn’t want different people all the time. They were on top of each other, then spread out all over so I couldn’t make sure they were following the instructions I’d given at the outset. I tried not to hover. but I heard too much suspicious scrubbing in the bathroom. Three of them were in there. One was using my toilet brush to scrub the outside of the toilet. When I reacted, she said in broken English, “Oh, ‘cause bacteria.” She knew very well what she was doing. When I left the room after telling her to sanitize with bleach, she ridiculed me in Spanish, which I understand. One of them, who was a college girl, corrected her, saying, “She’s paying.” I went in and told her I understood, and as a matter of fact my grandparents on one side were Mexican farmworkers who sacrificed so their kids could go to school and succeed, and I didn’t appreciate her resentful attitude and conduct. I never had the service again. In my area they charge too much, and they all do damage. Show less
@@alonzo4164If you have a hard time with mirrors or glass I’ve found the best product I’ve ever used. It’s Beta Clean Dow GC-800 industrial. It is flammable when you’re spraying it but once it dries down it is not. When you use Windex you usually have to go side to side in the same direction or you’ll have streaks. This cleaner it doesn’t matter if you go up down, side to side, or any direction you want and it repels dust. I do not sell this cleaner or am affiliated in any way. It’s just a really good product that I found cleaning for my favorite client. She’s so sweet she even tried giving me a bottle to take home but it’s expensive and I had already ordered one. Change mop water often! I had a housekeeper that would use the same mop water through out the house & it was so nasty! Now I clean houses & I make sure to change it often!
Exactly! If I mop a normal-sized kitchen, after it is thoroughly vacuumed, I might rinse & refill the mop bucket three or four times just for the kitchen. The point is to clean the floor, right? Not just smear around dirty water!
Yes the mop water should be changed for every single room and start by mopping the cleanest area first and the dirtiest last. You would mop the kitchen before you mop the bathrooms. In our house it was kitchen first, then living room entryway and fireplace tiles, hardwood floor in music room, laundry room and last the bathrooms.
@@jeanvignesYou’d be surprised the amount of clients that don’t want the water changed that often. I worked for a lady that wanted to clean beside me and we were shampooing her carpet, she had around 30-40 free roaming cats that couldn go in and out whenever they wanted. When you shampoo over carpet with hair on it, it clumps. I went back to pick up the clumps of hair and she acted like I was crazy and wasting time picking it up. It was white carpet and the hair was grey to black. One client wanted me to work on her dirty clothes but her bathroom was covered in pee so I went over it while the clothes were washing and drying and the next day, it was covered in it again. It was like her bf didn’t care that she was trying to get the house clean.
@@AskAngelaBrown Thanks for the educational videos! I am only learning now--at nearly 47--that I lack solid housekeeping skills. My mother was not a talented cleaner so I did not pick up good habits (i.e. circles instead of S pattern). But better late than never!
I knew a neighbor who had a cleaner, and wanted her floors washed on hands/knees. Of course she never washed her floors that way. I asked. She was very heavy. No way she could have done it physically. I thought she was nuts expecting someone else to do it. I did it and it hurts your knees week in/out. The neighbor was complaining after she saw the cleaner mop it. It hadn't been discussed upon start up. Expectations vs reality. That would be a deep clean, not maintenence, and way more $$$ I think. If cleaner is doing several houses her knees would give out quickly.
What a good question and answers! I don’t do floors on my hands and knees after 25 years! Too hard on my knees all these years later. I don’t want to blow my knees out before I’m 45. I do the same about mops, even in my own house. I use separate pads or mop heads for kitchens and bathrooms. Each client, I buy one for their house only, extra mop heads or reusable pads. Swiffer sweepers with disposable clothes is good for sweeping also!
I use Swiffers for houses that have big mirrors or windows. I use a glass cleaner that truly will not streak no matter what you do so it works fine on the Swiffer with a micro fiber cloth or paper towels on it. You can’t mess it up. I’ll never buy Windex again and even though it’s my personal bottle, I keep it in my car just in case they expect me to use Windex. I won’t even touch it anymore. I swear they put oil in it to make you need to use more so you have to buy more.
I just started a cleaning business and I use the client's household mop and vacuum. This way I don't have to dismantle a vacuum between every customer, especially if they have pets. Less wear and tear on tools as well.
As a customer, I would only want my. own things used. Mop, vacuum, and cloths. I don’t want germs or hair from other people’s homes brought all over my home.
I use the client’s cleaning supplies too. I offer the option to provide cleaning materials but that costs more and I always discuss this with the clients when I go out to offer a quote. I do quotes in person and it helps with advertising and marketing. I put that first in the ad. Now accepting new clients, free quote with first time clients, experienced in commercial and residential with references upon request.
I Recently found this wonderful channel scrolling through professional cleaning videos. I am sold. What a great channel to now that I’m breathing life again into my past maid business.
House cleaning is more personal than office cleaning. Some people initially seem real friendly at first, but can become anal about anything, and everything. Sometimes business owners develop a customer's always right attitude. Having boundaries is important. Don't be afraid to cancel difficult customers. Many potential cleaners, and cleaning companies. If their difficult people chance are they've had several cleaners. Hands, and knees floor cleaning is a good example of going to far for the customer.
I change my mop water 3~4 times per house . I use spin mops in my business the o cedar brand. I buy my replacement mopheads on Amazon so they only come out to about $1.50 a piece. I’d bring a clean one every time I come to our house. And you’re able to wash those mopheads about 10 times before you throw them away. When I wash them, I wash them in bleach. So that they are thoroughly disinfected. And the vacuum I use is the Oreck commercial vacuum. I use a brand new vacuum bag for each home. The vacuum is thoroughly disinfected from the cord to the handle to the bottom to inside where the dirt goes every single time. So that when I bring my vacuum to someone’s home it is fresh and sanitary. If I catch one of my employees not cleaning their vacuum each time, I do write them up. I take it very serious and I make it clear that this is something that I take very serious when I hire my staff.
I’ve been looking for people to help me and one of my big irks is the base boards. The base boards tell if you’ve done a good job cleaning. I worked for a lady a long time ago that had me unscrew each cent cover in each rental and bleach the inside of the vent.
I got hired by her by mopping the floor on my hands and knees 😂. People really love that for some reason. I’m not as young now and I don’t offer that anymore but sometimes I will sit down and mop around the baseboards and behind the toilet.
@@AskAngelaBrown Angela how I mop my light color porcelain tiles? I used a towel every 2 days (sweep daily) cause all the mops I try leave streaks and dull ugly marks, I’m exhausted!!! My legs gets a workout when I “mop”
As a blind homemaker, in experimenting with various mops, since I'm on the other end of the mop handle, and can't see my results, when I check hands-on, I find I don't get quite everything, so I do prefer the good old bucket and rag method to know I get and cover everything.
I do hands and knees is the way, but for some jobs I get the right equipment for the job. I do not agree with taking one mop to each individual home so I have one left there onsite for or, I get one with pads that can deep clean well. So this advice was perfectly on point as always "Angels for president"
That sounds like a neat idea. That is a great way to prevent cross-contamination and start each clean with a new mop head. Thanks for sharing this tip. 👍
Great video Angela.I have removable string mop heads.so use one fresh mop head per house. They all come home get sterilzed in disinfectant and rinsed and dryed at the end of the day but I usually only have 4 clients a day.If the mop isn't always dry it is always clean and sanitised.I find that clients use their own mops and dont clean in between, same with not maintaining their vaccumn cleaner, not replenishing their products and cloths some of which are useless so I take my own.Saves me a LOT of problems.
It sounds like you've got a great system in place that works for you. I love how you have a system with separate mop heads for each home. Nice move. :-)
Years ago when I had a small cleaning business I always mopped floors on my hands and knees. As I did it at home too I felt that I did a better job that way. If my knees would cooperate I'd still do it that way. 😂
Hello Angela and everybody else never use rubbing alcohol in your washer here's why: Rubbing alcohol is very flamable your washing machine has motors that get hot while running to make your washing machine work if that rubbing alcohol touches the motors which it will it will literally start a fire hope this helps you all out
We do not currently have a house cleaner but we have in the past. From a client perspective I would want the housecleaner to use my supplies, chemicals, mops, brooms etc. I would not want even the reusable washable pads from someone else’s house. I would not want a house cleaner to clean my floors on hands and knees. That takes longer then a mop. If I am paying you by the hour I would tell you not to clean that way. Another thing…..if you are going to overcharge me for the first visit then I probably wouldn’t hire you. Our house cleaner was expected to do certain things every week. Then when she got those done we added one extra thing to the list each time. Maybe one time would be living and dining room curtains, one time would be ceiling fans, etc.. the first time you come to my house you wouldn’t do more cleaning then you would the second time. Also if I was a house cleaner I would expect that the client would provide certain supplies. Whatever cleaner they want used in floors, counters, bathrooms etc. as a client I am allergic to many chemicals including anything with bleach or aerosols. By the same token if I had a cleaner that my housekeeper said she was allergic to then we would discuss and find something that I provided that she is not allergic too. We fixed a bucket for our house cleaner. Inside was all the cleaners she would need. Also papertowels and cloths or anything else she might need. When she came all she had to do was grab the bucket with the supplies. Our house cleaner said she preferred using newspaper to clean the windows. Worked great so we agreed. Together you should decided what supplies are to be used or not to be used.
Congratulations on your beautiful porcelain tiles! I understand your frustration in not knowing how to clean them properly. Don't worry, I'm here to help! Cleaning porcelain tiles is actually quite straightforward. To begin, start by sweeping or vacuuming the tiles to remove any loose dirt and debris. Then, prepare a mixture of warm water and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as they can harm the tiles. Next, gently mop or wipe the tiles using the cleaning solution. Remember to wring out excess water from the mop or cloth to avoid over-wetting the tiles. For tougher stains, you can make a paste with baking soda and water, apply it to the stained area, let it sit for a while, and then gently scrub with a soft brush. After cleaning, rinse the tiles thoroughly with clean water to remove any residue, and dry them either with a clean towel or by allowing them to air dry. Lastly, it's always a good idea to check the manufacturer's guidelines for any specific cleaning recommendations tailored to your type of porcelain tiles. Enjoy your beautifully clean and shiny floors! 🧽🌟 #TileCleaningTips #PorcelainTiles
You could also have multiple mop heads for each home so you use a new and sanitized mop head . Some are washable and can be sanitized to use again. I always have clean water for each home and a new sanitized mop head.
This is a great idea. Back in the day when we used string mops, I did the same thing. A mop for each home I cleaned. That way I could prevent from cross-contaminating in various homes. With flat mop heads we can machine wash them between jobs, or do like you mention.
My hardwood is starting to curl up on the ends . I think it’s because my wife is using a steam mop on the hardwood floor or my cleaner is using too much water with her mop???? What do you think would cause the hardwood to curl up ?
You're right! Excessive moisture is the enemy of hardwood floors. Steam mops can be risky because of the high volume of water vapor. If your floors are well-sealed and in good condition, professional cleaners might use a steam mop very carefully for specific situations. But for everyday cleaning, a damp microfiber mop is the safest bet to avoid warping.
Personally I'm not a fan of the squirt and smear method. A damp cloth with a pH neutral cleaner should be all you need. Be careful of the products that leave an uneven buildup of product on your flooring.
As a housekeeper, I prefer using my steam mop on my clients! I worked for a cleaning company ad they only did bathrooms on hands and knees....ABSOLUTELY ABSURD! We had huge homes ranging from 7500-13,000 Sq ft, with bathrooms to match. The time and energy spent on floors was outrageous, and it it physically taxing. This is why I use steam mops to mop ad sanitize the floor
Thanks so much for leaving a comment about steam mops. They are great for tile bathrooms. I actually made a video about scrubbing floors on hands and knees. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/3vti3MIxveo/w-d-xo.html
I've purchased about 10 mopheads that are cleaned in disinfectant every wash. Yes, I put them in the washing machine with disinfectant. That way, I have a clean mop head as well as clean disinfected cloths for each and every house I can every day.

My ex sister-in-law has a housekeeper/maid that takes her mop from house to house and one time I was house sitting for my brother and her and the housekeeper came to show me she had found a maggot in their bedroom. She acted like I had put it there somehow but she was the only one who had even been in their bedroom while they were gone, then she brought the same mop to my house to clean and we started finding maggot larvae at my house where she had mopped. The only thing I can think is that she had that mop somewhere there was rotten meat growing maggots and she got them on her mop then started spreading them around. So gross. Needless to say she doesn’t come to my house anymore since my brother is divorcing my sister-in-law, and I am doing my own house cleaning now which is why I watch your channel until I can afford to have someone else come do it professionally. I clean this little pre school everyday. And i can’t figure out what to do about my mop situation. It doesn’t dry over night and ends up smelling. They won’t let me rest it by the radiator, what can I do?
Hi Angela. I have a question. My mother been mopping the floors. And once she done mopping. And she grabs a towel & she begins to dry the floor with a towel. Is that a good thing to do. Because I have told my mom that when you dry the floor with a towel. And the floor won’t be be clean of because you grab a used towel
She probably did it because the floor was too wet and she was trying to remove standing water. Towels are used to dry already clean things so I don't know what types of germs she transferred to the floor. Maybe she needs a different mop.

Oh no....that stinks! It may be the cause of a dirty mop or water pooling under the floor tiles and drying up there. Maybe bring it to the janitors attention.
I use a clean swiffer with boiling water and flash to clean my customers floors the pads go in the wash with my cloths. If they want it mopped, they need to supply one.
Your comment about telling clients about wet floors reminded me of a time I was mopping and my client came home early. I told them "please be careful i just mopped so the floor may still be wet". To which they replied "oh ok so if i fall i can sue you." I was really taken back by this 'joke'. Can a homeowner sue you for them falling on their own floors?
If a customer made that joke I would not clean their house any more. That is not a funny joke at all because they could very well sue in that circumstance. If they are already talking about it even if joking about it, I would terminate any future services with that client.

Hello, wanted to know how often should we mop our own house. I sweep every evening because I have dogs. My have my helper mop once a week. She thinks should mop two times a week. It’s no extra charge. I would pay her more because she’s my arms and legs, when I can’t. I don’t want to over work her.
Hi Lisa, It's a great question and you have to decide what is right for your home and living arrangements. Lots of people don't mop at all. They do daily chores and wait for the cleaning service to come mop every other week. Some households spot mop every day in the kitchen and high traffic areas. With dogs or kids you may have to mop more than the average household.

Another thing…the first time you clean my house is like your job interview. If I don’t like your price or they way you did something I wouldn’t have you come back. As a client we always paid our house cleaner extra each time because she did such a good job. If you are coming or my house to clean for the first time it will take longer because you don’t have a routine and you don’t know where everything is. I would prefer you charge me for three hours but maybe stay for four. I’m going to feel like you really want the job and are not just trying to get some fast money. Chances are I will end up paying you extra each time if you do a good job. We paid our house cleaner for 4 hours. We had a list of things we expected to be done every time that usually only took 3 hours. Then the last hour was the extra for that week. Don’t charge me twice as much for the first visit because there won’t be a first visit.

There may come a time 20 years down the road when standing while mopping with a mop will assist in balance issues. Food for thought. :-)
Can i ask what to add in water when mopping the tiles to not be sticky? I always add multi purpose cleaner and little vinegar but still after dried it is sticky
I watched this video on Moping and I feel the same way about vacuums....I don't like cleaners coming into my home with their vacuums.....I always tell the cleaners I have two vacuums one for detailing and the other for regular vacuuming.....I do have a question though. If you supply all cleaning supplies " from cleaning agents, mops, vacuums and cleaning clothes to your cleaner should the price of the cleaning come down.....I hope you can get back to me on this one Angela....
John, House cleaners are trained to clean with products they are familiar with. If you change the products they are comfortable with it could cause problems and a liability issue. Check out this video on that same topic: th-cam.com/video/8bkJxhPOFKA/w-d-xo.html
One thing I noticed about this job is that it is just as dangerous and heavy as any other job.The people you have to deal with daily and the environments you have to be aware of.
This refers to running a cleaning business. For example, a person may want to mop the floors on their hands and knees and maybe they are in shape enough to do that. If they are an equal opportunity employer they may not have the luxury of hiring only people willing and in shape to get on their hands and knees to mop. Can you grow and scale a business with techniques that exclude the majority of your workforce? No, therefore that should not be the company's standard operating procedure.👍
I do have mopping question, for you. I have a stick swifter mop will post a dry cloth and a wet cloth. How often should I DRY mop my wood flooring? The wood flooring is original from the early 1970s and it dominates my small apartment. I have a laminated kitchen floor, too. I'm trying to develop a good cleaning routine and need to know how often I should have won the dry mop over the living room and two bedroom. I come also have a dust devil vacuum cleaner for use on bare wood floor. I'm talking about the $40 job for small apartment.
Thanks so much for leaving me a comment. You should take a few things into consideration when determining how often to dry mop your wood floors. How often does it look dusty/dirty? How much foot traffic does it get? And who’s walking on it? (pets? kids?). I hope this helps : )
There is probably a way, but I don't have enough information to make a recommendation. What type of laminate flooring and what type of streaks? Are they water streaks or chemical streaks?
@@AskAngelaBrown Thanks Angela. The Laminate wood are thin inserts that appear to have a rich medium brown stain to it. The streaks may be water, however, my initial mop was with murphy's oil mixed with water as per instructions. Subsequent mops were just plain water. The mop head is like a microfibre mop chenille. Wonder if the mop may be causing the streaks.
I only use the Libman's Wonder Mop with a few drops of natural (less sudsy) dish soap, and that works great for laminate floors. Every other cleaner I've tried has left streaks.
Oddly enough I have found that extremely light use of water does not leave streaks. I have also found that streaks on my laminate floor disappear with constant walking especially when socks are being used. In short, it isn't permanent, thankfully.

Thankyou for writing this! You are very kind, kudos to you for doing this!! 🙌😊
That is so kind and thoughtful of you ❤️

i cleaned my floor on my hands and knees recently. It was a good clean, but I suffered from knee pain for a week. Angela is right, "it's not scalable."
Oh no, I hope you're feeling better!
I’m an adult that does not know. I am learning. That’s why I’m looking for these videos. 😔
I even went upstairs and told her again not to do it, but she said, “This is just what I do.”
She put elbow grease into everything, even though nothing was dirty, and even if was, you must let the products do the work so as not to scratch.

Thank you for sharing your experience. And thanks for watching. 🙂
Jeez- I mop twice because my moms house is pretty small-
I would not feel comfortable seeing my housekeeper on her hands and knees on my floor. Just doesn't feel right.
Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙂
@@melissahollowell7255 my mom would make us go play and clean. So I never learned. Or learned a good weekly system for an entire house vs a bedroom.

"Always vacuum first. Sweep or vacuum first.": glad you mentioned this important point.
Glad you agree, thanks for watching!
Thanks for your feedback and thank you for watching.
That sounds like a good plan. Keep me posted on how it goes. And, Congratulations on your new business. 👏👏👏
I started recently too and have been using the owners vacuum
As a customer, I would only want my. own things used. Mop, vacuum, and cloths. I don’t want germs or hair from other people’s homes brought all over my home.
I use the client’s cleaning supplies too. I offer the option to provide cleaning materials but that costs more and I always discuss this with the clients when I go out to offer a quote. I do quotes in person and it helps with advertising and marketing. I put that first in the ad. Now accepting new clients, free quote with first time clients, experienced in commercial and residential with references upon request.

Some people initially seem real friendly at first, but can become anal about anything, and everything.
Sometimes business owners develop a customer's always right attitude.
Having boundaries is important.
Don't be afraid to cancel difficult customers.
Many potential cleaners,and cleaning companies.

Great point! Thanks for sharing this. The string mops are also great for cleaning the baseboards as you mop.
I do hands and knees is the way, but for some jobs I get the right equipment for the job.

I’ve been cleaning on my hands and knees because I don’t know what kind of mop to use. And the last one broke 🤦🏾♀️. But this needs to change.
Give a new mop a try and give your kneew a break.
Great tips, I appreciate you sharing them : )
Hello Angela, I have just had porcelain tiles installed, but no one can tell me how to clean them. Please help me with this situation.

Hi Angela from 2018, I'm from the year 2022. In the future, you look even better and younger. Peace
Thanks for your kind words of encouragement and support. I appreciate you stopping by.
Can I put down mop and Glo with the wet swiffer wipe need to know ASAP
Personally I'm not a fan of the squirt and smear method. A damp cloth with a pH neutral cleaner should be all you need. Be careful of the products that leave an uneven buildup of product on your flooring.
Thank you Angela! 🌏

As a housekeeper, I prefer using my steam mop on my clients! I worked for a cleaning company ad they only did bathrooms on hands and knees....ABSOLUTELY ABSURD! Hi. What kind of mop and solution can you use for slate flooring that's not sealed
A squeegee deck broom would be my answer amzn.to/35hBZMW and the solution would be a pH neutral stonewash amzn.to/3xkxD3B
Other types of mops will shred on the stone.
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you kindly 🙏😊

You're so kind. Thank you 😊
yes , I 'd do floors in my home on hands n knees because my back would ache ....but now that my knees are shot....I do use a mop and do what I can
Mopping on your hands and knees does a number on your knees. Do waht you can and keep those knees strong and healthy.
I ask my helpers to use a rag in the corners where the mop cant reach and a mop on the main floor.
Should I be charging extra for green cleaning?
Angela Brown thank you. I started out in commercial cleaning so I'm used to using the heavy duty stuff.
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you that is very good to know :) I want to start a professional cleaning business once I finish college and being environmentally friendly and sustainable is important to me. I'm glad that this is already the standard.

How do you clean the hardwood floor with water without getting water down in the cracks?
Thank you for your question! I suggest using a damp (not wet or dripping) microfiber mop. Hope this helps!👍
What do you think of schmop? I love mine!!!

You got that right. No sense in getting in hands and knees to Mop unless it’s especially bad in certain places or specialty flooring.
I think the only time I still mop on my hands and knees is the area around and behind the toilet. I'm on my hands and knees anyway and your average mop can't do as great a job as I can while I'm down there. 😆😆😆
@@AskAngelaBrown for real! Most people don’t clean behind there. When I was a resort manager I had to pay attention to stuff like that and it would make me boil when toilets were dirty behind and under. No one cleans there! I would always carry a mini spray bottle and napkin for times like that

Do you used two buckets, one for dirty water, and one for the soapy clean water?
Someone here may help me.
So here is my problem.
Every time the janitor mops my classroom it leaves a very nasty smell. I don't know if it is due to a dirty mop and I don't know how to solve this. I tried to mop the floor again but still, it doesn't smell good.
Thank you for sharing your approach
Your comment about telling clients about wet floors reminded me of a time I was mopping and my client came home early. I told them "please be careful i just mopped so the floor may still be wet". To which they replied "oh ok so if i fall i can sue you." I was really taken back by this 'joke'. Can a homeowner sue you for them falling on their own floors?
Why not use a floor fan
If you don't warn them, then yes they can sue you
It’s sad but that is the world we live in today!!
If a customer made that joke I would not clean their house any more. That is not a funny joke at all because they could very well sue in that circumstance. If they are already talking about it even if joking about it, I would terminate any future services with that client.
Could you please share tips on how to thoroughly clean a very dirty floor? I've tried spin mops and a carpet cleaner that also works on hard floors. I just feel like the floor is never truly clean.
Is it a hardwood floor?
I recently started my own home cleaning business and I would like everyone’s feedback. How much is too much or too little to charge? I have 4 appointments booked, and I charged $185 for deep cleaning / initial cleaning service.
Hi Laura, there are so many variables that go into pricing. We've got dozens of price, pricing, bidding videos here on this channel that help you narrow down your pricing. We also use tools like Compass Wave svy.tips/compasswave-home that allow you to plug in the details of a home and it will spit you out a price. Try it using your own home to see how much you should be charging. (You can also try it for the homes you are cleaning to see if you are undercharging as well. Let me know how it works for you.)

I have a question: I sweep and or vacuum prior to mopping, however, the human hair and dust seem to show up as I am mopping and it is so hard to get rid of them. How do you get rid of human hair and dust so it doesn't come back when you mop?
@@AskAngelaBrown
What's the link for this solution?
@@AskAngelaBrown Please do! I have this exact problem. Usually I use a spin mop for the initial mop, then I use a dry mop (acutally dry) to drag everything to the front door. Once it's all in a pile I pick it up with one of my dirty microfibre cloths and then shut the front door. I find that this has been my solution so far. What do you do for this?
I use dry swifffers, especially in bathrooms for that. They are truly amazing.
I had this same question. I know sniffers work wonderfully but should I vacuum then swiffer then mop?
Get the swifter dry cloths and handle. After I mop I go back over the floors with the swiffer.
VERY NICE to the point *

The majority of my home has carpet (yuck but I am a renter) so I scrub my own floors on my hands and knees and get the baseboards at the same time. Although, if I were a house cleaner, I would definitely use a mop. I loathe carpet due to my chronic allergies but my landlord won’t allow me to remove it and replace with linoleum at my own cost.
I am so sorry you are suffering from allergies. Sending you hugs. 🤗
Vacuum daily , invest in a good air purifier . Change bed linen twice a week if possible and take a Claritin anti allergy every day . ❤
Excellent! Thank you!

I wouldnt have my cleaner mop my floora on her hands and knees. Way to tiring for her. There s no need for that.

Hi Angela My Husband I have been cleaning houses for over 10 years now I get a lot of customers that come and go but then I try to get customers back by putting flyers out doing things on the internet and no responses. Can you give me an idea of what I am doing wrong. Because we need a couple more people. Thank you
Hello, wanted to know how often should we mop our own house.
How do you get pet stains out of carpet?
Enzymatic cleaner designed for pet odors and stains will be helpful in this case. I use this one: OdoBan Professional Cleaning and Odor Control Solution - amzn.to/3Ok5rZu (affiliate link*)
Thank you for sharing!

I hadn't thought of that before, but Angela's videos are extremely well done.
I am interested in the process itself? Pros and cons for tile? thank you so much!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write me a comment. Do you mean pros/cons for different mops on tile?
Me too! I moved from a house with hardwood floors, now I have textured tile with grout. I love my new (older) house, but I have a lot of cleaning to do. So many questions coming, lol! Thanks 😊
Don’t use a swiffer wet jet, I used one on my ceramic tile kitchen and bathroom and it left so much buildup it started becoming sticky. Took me several days hand cleaning with diluted white vinegar and hot water to remove buildup. I now mop with hot water, witch hazel and a few drops of lemon or orange essential oil. No buildup and leaves my house fresh
What about a swiffer wet jet?
It's great for homeowners who have quick clean up jobs. It will make you really mad if you're a professional house cleaner because it's not the right tool for all-day, every day cleaning.
I CANNOT IMAGINE MOPPING COMERCIALLY ON HANDS AND KNEES! You can simply use a clean mop head in every single house
Yes, that's one of the ways to do it
What about micro fiber mop heads
I like using microfiber mop heads - they are gentle and pick up dirt really well👍
What kind of soap/cleaner should I use to mop ceramic tile?
What do you recommend for an apartment with vinyl floors they are annoying to clean...ours are just cheap I think they even get dents with furniture and they have the protectors underneath so I don't get it.
Thank you!! 0:30 I will list my services!
Awesome...thanks for watching!
I mop an extremely large bar floor 3x a week. No vacumn but spit sweep visable items like popcorn, broken bottles etc. using a spin mop between chair and table legs and a microfiber push mop on large open areas. I do not have a mop, So I just use a rag with my hands & So on . Maybe one day I'll buy a mop but Im 55+ now :)
Do you have a large area to mop or is it a smaller floor that can easily be done with a cloth? How about a cloth on a flathead mop so that you can do it while standing up? There may come a time 20 years down the road when standing while mopping with a mop will assist in balance issues. Food for thought. :-)
I like hot water, vinegar, and my Magic Erasure mop, but I'm only cleaning my own house.
Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm so thrilled you found a system that works that you enjoy using.
Can i ask what to add in water when mopping the tiles to not be sticky? I always add multi purpose cleaner and little vinegar but still after dried it is sticky
What type of surface are you cleaning? When not sure, a neutral pH floor cleaner is your best bet.

@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you Angela for getting back to me on this one I appreciate it.....
One thing I noticed about this job is that it is just as dangerous and heavy as any other job.The people you have to deal with daily and the environments you have to be aware of.
Thank you for acknowledging the importance of our work!
but is it scalable?
I like Me clean lemon product . What's your thought on this product?
If it works for you and your type of flooring then I say - awesome!
Hi Angela, love your cleaning tips. Q: I have laminate floors that have water streak marks, is there any way to get rid of the streaks?
Brava Angela, well done.
