It is such a relief to hear other moms talk about this. I am expecting my 3rd baby this summer and my oldest will turn 9 at the exact same time. For 9 years I haven't had any other identity than being a mom. I just stopped being ME. Learning to ask for time for myself has been difficult. It's so easy for my husband to say he's going out to do things with his friends or by himself, but it's not the same for me. It can be so hard to remind yourself that sometimes you need to come first and that doesn't make you a bad mommy or a bad wife or bad person in general.
Is it weird that this resonates with me so much. This exact sentiment, those exacts questions flood my mind currently. I've been a mother & someone's significant other for so long, that I find myself drowning in a sea of familiarity & im struggling to stay afloat. It's crazy. I have literally had an honest conversation with myself about who I have become & how I got here & I'm still searching for answers. Vanessa, thank you for posting this because it shines a light on feelings that almost feel taboo. I actually broke down in tears listening to you because this is me. & it's been me for years now. I've taken steps to find myself again & it's been a hard road because sometimes, it's so hard to give up the routine of yesterday (even if that routine didn't truly make me happy). But with some clarity & putting myself first, I am hoping to find the things that once again make me happy (outside of being a mommy & wife). Wishing you love & light V.
Hey Vanessa my name is Dieree I live in Brazil and I must say that is very important wht you're saying in this video because I can see this behavior in ma own mom, since she had me and my brother she never done anything for her, and today I'm in college and she have to live by her own and she just don't know how to have fun, or do something for her time, and it's very frustrating for me as a daughter to see it, so If I could say anything for mothers in the future you'll have to be complete to be happy without your kids, and it means Melanie too of course, but being a full person with hobbies and your own personality is a matter of happiness, yours and of your kids in the future.
I love you four very much. I even have your picture in my notebook. I love Jax and Eron a lot, Melanie and Vanessa. Every day I pray for the family of you. My dream is to meet you . ♥♥♥♥♥♥

I'm 29 with 3 kids on my own and this signs to me. I have a career and that's my only escape. my goal is to take up yoga and soulcycle.
