Do you have or could you do a comparison of Satisfied, the first fast rapping verse? I am amazed at how Renee handled this and it would be interesting to hear how other performers handled it too. Thanks
I think Renée was great too, but I try not to compare them. Each actress isn't trying to recreate Renée's performance, they're their own Angelica. They're all incredible!
Everyone's saying that mandy wasn't good, that girl played one of the most challenging roles for 8 shows a week while fighting breast cancer, she's a fucking hero
Most challenging roles? In this? Not even close. But the fact that she could be up there at all during her battle with cancer is just incredible. And we’ve all seen the goods from her. So we know she can, she just had POISON in her. 😩😩😩
Nothing compares to Renee’s performance for me. Renee didn’t try to be make dramatic actions or faces and I think that’s what is satisfying about her performance compared to others. You can just tell she’s in pain through her singing because realistically if you were making a toast to the groom and bride you can’t show that you’re heartbroken about it.
The fact that Emmy was apart of the original cast ensemble and then went on to play Angelica and now is apart of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix is amazing
Since I see everyone bashing Mandy, let's take some time to realize that that clip of her might have been filmed when she had just been diagnosed with BREAST CANCER. She was doing treatments and still doing the show every night. I don't know for sure the date of that clip, but looking at the cast present it lines up with when she was diagnosed. So, keep that in mind while you sit there and criticize her.
Renee is not remotely the best. Original Broadway Cast makes you the first not necessarily the best. Anyone who knows anything about theater understands this. 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽 I have seen Hamilton personally 14 times and have seen way better Angelicas, especially the fabulous Ta’Rea Campbell.
Renee played Angelica as nerdy, intense and prideful and she never played Angelica as someone who sees herself as tragic, a victim or an unsung hero because the character had dignity and she stood by her decisions. All of the others see her personally as this tragic, selfless character and put their personal feelings towards the character and that’s why they don’t have the same strength as Renee.
I’m completely biased for Renée. I’m sorry. There is just- the way she performs. Something about it is just the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in an Angelica. She is the OG and the absolute best. There is no other Angelica like her.
I really like that Renee sang it so naturally. I feel like everyone else was trying so hard to belt, and I don't think this song needs it, it's powerful enough on it's own. Renee has this natural ease about her. I just wanted to say to everyone else, "Okay, we get it, you can sing" lol Marsha Songcome was the only other one who I felt wasn't overdoing it
Yes, honestly the vocals on all these women are amazing! But I feel like the belting bits were just so much. I don't know why but I feel like it takes away from the emotions that the song represents, that love for someone so strong you wish them well despite the devastation it poses on your heart. It shouldn't be an attack, nor a sing off. The kind of clear, straight forward vocal that Renee presents gives us that sadness, that regret and that longing without overplaying it and making it too fierce and too angry.
When Renee sang this song she didn’t have to scream or do all those runs to be impressive. She just had raw emotion and was controlled just perfect. Just beautiful. I am am completely satisfied... I had to 😂
COMPLETELY agree. I'm sure this is not the case, and just because we know her as the original, but I feel like all the others were just trying to outdo Renee 😝
Renée and Emmy are my personal favorites but Rachel (ESPECIALLY Rachel because holy shit), Julia, and Cherry also knocked it out of the park. They all portrayed the right emotions for the song while also showcasing their own personal vocal talents.

Lets be honest they’re all fantastic, but for me Renee stands out. When I first saw Hamilton I remembered being mesmerised by her, even in scenes where she was in the background.
The other thing I’ll note: “Satisfied” is a vocal and ACTING feat. It’s one thing to hit the notes, but it’s also another to convey the complexity of Angelica’s emotions in the moment.
Could not have said it better myself! I wish we could of seen the acting chops of the woman that performed this, I feel my judgement would of changed a little seeing how they interacted with those vocals and emotions.
In my opinion, Renee is the GOAT of playing the role. Honestly, Renee portrays Angelica amazingly. Everyone else did a great job playing the role as well, though.
Hmm...trying not to be bias but Renee still takes the cake for me. She has a perfect blend of soul and classical. It’s not all over the place but stays in a sweet spot but still let’s it rip! Renee for the win, but respect for the other ladies

I think most of them don't realise the phrases "to the groom, to the bride" are not meant to be shouted. It's supposed to sound like a semi-disappointed voice.
Couldn't this be one of those things that's interpreted. Like, we now know how Angelica's feeling, but she refuses to ever let her true feelings show. Personaly, I agree with you. I like the semi- depressed shout more. It holds more meaning, but this is just a thought.

Renee 100% she is the GOAT and she sang it the best and had more emotion than the others, I wish they could keep the original cast cause they were amazing ❤️❤️❤️
The other actresses are amazing but I feel like they are trying too hard or trying to just show off their (incredible) vocal range. Instead, at least for me, Renée is capable of conveying Angelica's own painful decision to choose her sister's happines over her own. Congrats to all of the Angelicas, but Renée is the best one for me.
It seemed as though some didn't connect with their Elizas as Renee did. The song is partly about Angelica giving up her happiness because she loves her sister the fact that some don't even seem to make eye contact with their Elizas throws me off.
I like the different ways in which they hold the note but honestly, the one with Renée is bone chilling because she doesn't add variations and it just somehow makes the song better because it's supposed to be like that. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
A lot of the others have great voices, in some ways it does seem like they’re tryina outgrow living in Renée’s showdow, like outdo her. A lot of the newer girls did fancy runs etc but it’s Renée’s CONTROL for me that wins be over, & really brings out the character.
So true! Definitely like the ones who didn’t go all out to “outdo” Renèe (good luck with that anyway), you can tell some where just trying to belt out the highest and most prolonged notes. I think that takes away from Angelica’s feel of “conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know” if you get what I mean. She wouldn’t be that obvious.
At 00.18 seconds in, Renée gets kicked in the head by the dancer behind her being lifted! She’s such a pro, carries on like nothing happened. Voice wavers just slightly but you wouldn’t even notice. I only noticed the kick because it was as though she suddenly flicked her head back in an unnatural way.. I love her voice and poise. Nikki is great, but none is better than the outstanding Renée.
Musically, each one of these singers brings their own strengths. It's insane how talented they all are. I wish there were video of more to see their acting. I think Renee's acting fits Angelica perfectly. She is sad, but says in control of her emotions and collected. I don't see Angelica as timid at all. Renee pulls it off perfectly.
Each Angelica brought something different to the role and played it in their own way and are all very talented I will always love Renée because she is the original Angelica and her belt just sounds amazing in the song compared to some of the others where it seems like more of a yell
Emmy is by far my favourite, but they’re all incredible. I just like how she riffs and belts and it always adds a nice touch to her characters. I really hope she gets a main cast spot one day
Emmy Raver-Lampman is incredible, and the only one who comes close to Renée. To me, she’s the only one who stands above the rest. That said, any actor who creates a role has a special connection with it that anyone who comes after just doesn’t or can’t have
I think Renee is really good because she doesn't get caught up in the sound of her own voice and therefore doesn't over-elongate phrases. Thus procuring a beautiful note, a steady tone, and keeping the audience wanting more.
Just to clarify I think ALL the women sang it AMAZINGLY but Renee will always win because I just think she connected with angelica on another level than the others!
They are ALL talented. They put their own stamp on the song. Renee just has a powerful, clear voice that can knock down a building. I am just glad they didn't try to replicate her. Sing it your way!
Satisfied aint a contest for vocal belting even with the high parts of the song, there still needs to be that "shit I gave up my happiness to my sister" emotion. Other than Emmy (mostly the part before her "may you always-"), the others felt like they were just covering a song and not a theatrical performance. Then again, we are given the satisfied climax part idk bout the rest of the song.
emmy and rachel KILLED it i mean FRICK!! probably my other favorites besides renee which says a lot. i’m super picky about this song tbfh cause it’s one of my favorites BAHAHAHA.
Renee obviously is the best. in addition to her amazing voice, Renee is an amazing actress. She's performed probably more straight dramatic roles than musical roles. Satisfied is both a song and a scene, Angelica has to act out the lyrics. Renee does both beautifully.
Renée will always be the mvp for this role, but can we talk about Emmy tho?😳 Also cherryyyy! Idk why but the run they both did at the end from {Union} to {Provide} to {Always} hits different. Such insane talent.
I think come members of the original cast have been topped by others. The only cast members i think could never be topped from the original cast are Leslie Oden Jr. and Daveed Diggs. I'd also rather see Lin play Hamilton considering he wrote it and plays Hamilton with such personality. But there have been others who sing and rap better than him
@@danculbert6349 I'm heavily biased to the original cast, but watching the other casting, yeah some of them are a bit better. Like, i love Philippa Soo with all my heart, but Rachelle Ann Go sang Helpless with the giddiness and brightness of a Disney princess and it was amazing. But i don't think i'll ever prefer another Hamilton other than Lin, he brings so much personality to him. Considering he wrote the entire musical and read Hamilton's entire biography, i can't think of a person more qualified to play him. The way he delivers lines such as "I was chosen for the constitutional convention~" and "As long as i'm alive Eliza swear to god you'll never feel so-" were some of my favorite line deliveries in the play Also agree about Daveed and Leslie. Watched others but they are unmatched for me so far
@@wuttatota148 Yeah Lin is delivers the best performance of Hamilton by virtue of the fact he created the character and has real love for his Hamilton that shines through. His emotional performance feels so real too. I've just seen better singers play him, and some actors that embody some of the other traits of the character that Lin wrote in the character but didn't embody. The way I see it, Lin plays a more convincing second act Hamilton. The older, wiser and emotionally broken parts of Hamilton, Lin absolutely nails. But I've seen younger, more handsome actors play a more convincing young Hamilton. Who embody the cocky, energetic and determined side of Hamilton in act one a bit better. I mean when Eliza sings "Oh look at those eyes!" I'm always like..."whats so great about his eyes? 😅
Renee's voice tells a story and has developing emotions. The others sound like they are in a singing contest trying their hardest to stand out in a room of women singing the exact same song but not really paying attention to the meaning of it.
Damn y’all are really putting down the other Angelica’s? They’re not supposed to be the “original”. They all are their own interpretation of Angelica and are singing in the way they think suites her. Saying stuff like “Oh Renee is the only one that doesn’t scream” or “Renee is the only one for that role” is pretty disrespectful to the other actresses considering that Satisfied is already an extremely difficult song to sing due to its high vocal range. Its okay to have preferences and favorites, I also really like Renee, but all of these women put a ton of effort and emotion into their performance. It’s perfectly okay to not like someone’s performance, but don’t invalidate them or put them down just because they aren’t the same as Renee.
What an amazing bunch of women with amazing voices. I mean I have a favourite, but they all deserve praise for their awesome performances. I think being so familiar with the soundtrack means I love the original best, but wow, the talent in this video is breathtaking.
In my opinion, the climax can be sung well by most good belters, but what sets Renee apart is how well she does the rap portions - her cadence and ability to emote while performing a lyrically heavy portion of the song/scene is what makes it my favourite rendition.
All of the angelicas are great, but I feel like some of them get super showy and instead of showing how angelica is feeling, they just showcase their voice and range.
Very true. They all have excellent singing voices but it does come down to who portrays the role the best and the emotions. Didnt think of it that way when listening to them.
It’s amazing to me, Lin wrote the role with Karen in mind, and you can hear that influence when she sings it. It feels made for her...but yet Renée did such an amazing job making it her own and making it shine that it sounds more natural coming from her.
1 renee - the OG the benchmark or emotions n delivery 2 cherry - she delivered the 2 best rendition of the emotions incthe song 3 mariam - both technique and emotions 4 marsha - closest rendition to renee, she gave her own spin but did not go over the top to prove she can one up the OG 5 emmy - technique, amazing delivery
Renee will always hold a special space for me; her version of satisfied is why I listened to the rest of the musical. I must say based on these clips though, Emmy hands down was the best. I also enjoyed Allyson’s richer, heavier tone. They all got the job done though.
Ive got two things to say, and i understand no one asked for it but 1. Emmy was one of my favorites on this list!!!💕 2. I wish we'd get out of the mindset that "the og cast is the best cast" and actually be able to appreciate the different people put in those same roles. When we say things like that, we overlook the fact that someone worked hard to get that part, tony won or not..
People focus too much on the fact that certain actors are the original cast, and that they've formed an emotional connection to the voices, faces, and people behind them. Alot of people's reason for liking the original version the most is BECAUSE it's the original singer, and I just think it's unfair
First off, I really like how almost everyone in the comment section is critical at their performances haha. Some here probably only heard the OG, thanks to Disney+. So having that said, Renée was the OG and became the standard, and yet no one was able to 'best' her in the role. To be a successful Angelika, you have to not overdo the riffs in your singing as possible cause that's where the emotions will be conveyed to the audience, the other half will be from your movements and interactions. Not all in this compilation had footage of the plays so it's hard to rank them up in total in this specific scene. 1:25 Mandy mixed in a unique take by focusing her portrayal to Eliza, rather than her secret affections for Alex. She stuck to the classic tonal shifts mostly 2:10 Karen was, I think, better than Mandy. Her singing was ok but her attention to both Bride and Groom was balanced. She felt devastated. It sounded like she was crying out loud inside. A nice take on the scene 3:09 Emmy was, wooo. Either she's that good or the audio was very clear. She probably started that new change on the 'provide' part. It was a strong start and then a sudden, very sweet drop to the 'I know' part.. Brilliant 4:15 Rachel was kinda all over the place. She sang well, but I don't think it suited the emotion the song and the scene was demanding of her. Her riffs were for crowd-pleasing 5:00 Julia followed on Emmy's footsteps but didn't change much of the song 6:06 Wow, Cherry sold it! Her emotions were so... sad. It was so in the moment, and her singing was guiding her emotions rather than forcefully taking charge. She was happy for her sister but she was reaching out to Alex.. with her eyes.. when he went away. I felt that. She did it better than Karen. 7:20 I hope Miriam portrayed Angelika well on stage because she sang it very, simple. The previous Angelikas added unique but strong takes on the song. Miriam's was underwhelming. She had a bunch of moments where she wanted to add cool changes but fell short. It wasn't classic and it wasn't unique either 8:00 Marsha sang very close to the notes Renée did, so she was very classic. I could feel she didn't intend to add riffs and it was still good. I see from the pic that she was the previous Eliza and the other one was Peggy as well. The song was clear but the bass was way too loud, maybe the person was near a speaker. 8:59 Ta'rea was the complete opposite of the others with live video. She focused solely on Alex. It was almost like Eliza didn't exist in her take of the scene. 9:53 This was a weird one. Allyson sang it classically, but she changed the entire mood of the scene as Angelika, like, entirely. She stared dead ahead, towards the crowd. She wasn't in the ballroom, grabbing a toast, congratulating the newlyweds, and celebrating with the guests. She was telling a story, face-to-face to the audience. "Wanna know what happened? This is what happened, boom, here you go." She didn't snap out of the storytelling mode since the rewind, up to the very end. Props to her though, it was a fresh point of view, but I prefer Renée's interpretation. 10:53 Nikki's and 11:50 Sabrina's was ok
Also, Marsha Songcombe was the understudy for all three understudies, then left the show for a few months and came back for a few weeks where she finally made her Angelica debut and I‘m pretty sure that was her only performance in the role of Angelica☺️
all of them are great, but only a few hit the "to the groom" right... in the proshot you can see that when you do it in a sad and almost crying ver is a little more impactant than if you just screms yk
Renee wins. It is just something about her. Out of the various replacements I have seen, Javier Munoz as Hamilton is the only one who overcomes my original cast bias.
Emmy was Angelica when I saw Hamilton for the first time in San Francisco and lord I will never forget that riff she does at the end. Literal definition of singing to the back row

Okay but let's be real here, we didn't search for this video, it just came to us lmao
Uh where’s the comments about Emmy? She’s literally so amazing and clear, plus that riff on provide? AMAZING my god how does she do it
Emmy is by far my favourite, but they’re all incredible. I just like how she riffs and belts and it always adds a nice touch to her characters. I really hope she gets a main cast spot one day
emmys Performance gave me chills, Jesus christ she's so good
Emmy Raver-Lampman is incredible, and the only one who comes close to Renée. To me, she’s the only one who stands above the rest. That said, any actor who creates a role has a special connection with it that anyone who comes after just doesn’t or can’t have
Pls listen to the german version with chasity crisp - she SLAYS the high notes and she does a similar opt up to emmy raver lamp man - ill drop a link

Renée hands down, her runs are unmatched!
0:00 Renée Elise Goldsberry
1:02 Mandy Gonzalez
1:51 KO
2:55 Emmy Raver-Lampman
4:03 Rachel John
5:01 Julia K. Harriman
6:03 Cherry Torres
7:02 Miriam Teak-Lee
8:05 Marsha Songcome
8:55 Ta'rea Campbell
9:52 Allyson Ava-Brown
10:50 Nikki Renée Daniels
11:51 Sabrina Sloan
My personal favourites are: KO, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Rachel John
Satisfied aint a contest for vocal belting even with the high parts of the song, there still needs to be that "shit I gave up my happiness to my sister" emotion. Other than Emmy (mostly the part before her "may you always-"), the others felt like they were just covering a song and not a theatrical performance. Then again, we are given the satisfied climax part idk bout the rest of the song.
The emotion from Renée is out this world... Emmy is okay but all anyone hear from her is the belting note
emmy and rachel KILLED it i mean FRICK!! probably my other favorites besides renee which says a lot. i’m super picky about this song tbfh cause it’s one of my favorites BAHAHAHA.
Renee obviously is the best. in addition to her amazing voice, Renee is an amazing actress. She's performed probably more straight dramatic roles than musical roles. Satisfied is both a song and a scene, Angelica has to act out the lyrics. Renee does both beautifully.
Renée: I am an inimitable, I am an original.
Underrated comment
Renée will always be the mvp for this role, but can we talk about Emmy tho?😳 Also cherryyyy! Idk why but the run they both did at the end from {Union} to {Provide} to {Always} hits different. Such insane talent.
Whoever got to see the original cast of Hamilton is very lucky
Ikr
Right I’m jealous of them
I think come members of the original cast have been topped by others.
The way he delivers lines such as "I was chosen for the constitutional convention~" and "As long as i'm alive Eliza swear to god you'll never feel so-" were some of my favorite line deliveries in the play
Also agree about Daveed and Leslie.
Ya
jackeduprecruit period
PeriodT indeed.
Hey I mean you can’t change other opinions
finally someone said it omg
I think they mean that in their opinion nothing can compare to the original and they were trying to one up Renee
I’m sorry the rest of them just sounded like they couldn’t hit the notes and yelling to the groom
Emmy and Renee were my fav
Emmy's gives me literal chills
What an amazing bunch of women with amazing voices. I mean I have a favourite, but they all deserve praise for their awesome performances. I think being so familiar with the soundtrack means I love the original best, but wow, the talent in this video is breathtaking.
Thanks
In my opinion, the climax can be sung well by most good belters, but what sets Renee apart is how well she does the rap portions - her cadence and ability to emote while performing a lyrically heavy portion of the song/scene is what makes it my favourite rendition.
Exactly.
That is why I was upset this video didn’t include it.
Emmy's is insane, the opt up's are beautiful
I have a single word for this. DIVERSITY
The entire Hamilton cast except for members of the ensemble and people who play British people are POC ☺️ America then, told by America now
For me it is this order:
1) Renee Elise Goldsberry
2) Emmy Raver Lampman
3) Cherry Torres
4) Nikki Renee Daniels
Bro, no one can beat Renée’s pacing through this song.
renne is the best no matter all the vocal runs you do in my face
Emmy and Renee were the best in my opinion by i like Renee he most
All of the angelicas are great, but I feel like some of them get super showy and instead of showing how angelica is feeling, they just showcase their voice and range.
Kitty Love wed that’s what I’m saying
@@Quinn-ug4ce Sorry, I didn't see your comment before I made mine
Well said!
Very true. They all have excellent singing voices but it does come down to who portrays the role the best and the emotions. Didnt think of it that way when listening to them.
Kitty Love it’s okay I agree
It’s amazing to me, Lin wrote the role with Karen in mind, and you can hear that influence when she sings it. It feels made for her...but yet Renée did such an amazing job making it her own and making it shine that it sounds more natural coming from her.
Nobody can top Renee.
AND DATS ON PERIODT
I'm not really here to compare things. I just want another reason to listen to Satisfied on repeat.
...and that's valid as heck!
1 renee - the OG the benchmark or emotions n delivery
2 cherry - she delivered the 2 best rendition of the emotions incthe song
3 mariam - both technique and emotions
4 marsha - closest rendition to renee, she gave her own spin but did not go over the top to prove she can one up the OG
5 emmy - technique, amazing delivery
EMMY ATE THAT UP!! 👏👏 god they’re all queens I am so overwhelmed
Renee will always hold a special space for me; her version of satisfied is why I listened to the rest of the musical. I must say based on these clips though, Emmy hands down was the best. I also enjoyed Allyson’s richer, heavier tone. They all got the job done though.
Ive got two things to say, and i understand no one asked for it but
1. Emmy was one of my favorites on this list!!!💕
2. I wish we'd get out of the mindset that "the og cast is the best cast" and actually be able to appreciate the different people put in those same roles. When we say things like that, we overlook the fact that someone worked hard to get that part, tony won or not..
Agreed
renee hit it emotionally the other angelica’s were just playing a part
i agree
BUT EMMY THOUGH- SIS BROUGHT THAT NOTE HIGHER AND IM LIVING FOR IT!!! Renee and Emmy are my favs😌❤️
People focus too much on the fact that certain actors are the original cast, and that they've formed an emotional connection to the voices, faces, and people behind them. Alot of people's reason for liking the original version the most is BECAUSE it's the original singer, and I just think it's unfair
Exactly
Yeah, I unintentonally do that. I try really hard not to though. Every Angelica was great and was chosen for a reason.
I like taera i butchered het name sadly i had her as my angelica when i saw hamilton on live
Ya but Renne and a couple others are the best :p
I heard a rumour that Emmy slayed this
Love that
First off, I really like how almost everyone in the comment section is critical at their performances haha.
She stuck to the classic tonal shifts mostly
2:10 Karen was, I think, better than Mandy. Her singing was ok but her attention to both Bride and Groom was balanced. She felt devastated. It sounded like she was crying out loud inside. A nice take on the scene
3:09 Emmy was, wooo. Either she's that good or the audio was very clear. She probably started that new change on the 'provide' part. It was a strong start and then a sudden, very sweet drop to the 'I know' part.. Brilliant
4:15 Rachel was kinda all over the place. She sang well, but I don't think it suited the emotion the song and the scene was demanding of her. Her riffs were for crowd-pleasing
5:00 Julia followed on Emmy's footsteps but didn't change much of the song
6:06 Wow, Cherry sold it!
It wasn't classic and it wasn't unique either
8:00 Marsha sang very close to the notes Renée did, so she was very classic.
Lmao Nikki was ok
Btw Emmy is that good, I saw her live and GOD the talent
Rachel John didn‘t normally sing that many riffs, this was her last show☺️
Also, Marsha Songcombe was the understudy for all three understudies, then left the show for a few months and came back for a few weeks where she finally made her Angelica debut and I‘m pretty sure that was her only performance in the role of Angelica☺️
Ok but Emmy really decided to give us those beautiful high notes!
She slays!
She was Angelica when I watched Hamilton and she was truly amazing
I fell in love with Hamilton largely because of Renee. The control on her vocals is amazing. Marsha was good too
all of them are great, but only a few hit the "to the groom" right... in the proshot you can see that when you do it in a sad and almost crying ver is a little more impactant than if you just screms yk
It's Renée's part through and through. She's the best and deserved that Tony so much.
Renee wins. It is just something about her. Out of the various replacements I have seen, Javier Munoz as Hamilton is the only one who overcomes my original cast bias.
Renée paved the path for them so they could walk.
Renee & Emmy for sure
Emmy was Angelica when I saw Hamilton for the first time in San Francisco and lord I will never forget that riff she does at the end. Literal definition of singing to the back row
