What I find funny is that team rocket tries the Ralts evo line disguise TWICE! Once in hoenn and once in kalos. The first time was a little more believable, seeing as the second time they made wobbafet Ralts just by painting him white and adding a green bowl on his head.

One of the disguises that actually fooled me was when Ash and Co. arrive in Saffron City in Abra and the Psychic Showdown. Team Rocket is dressed as hawaiian hula dancer's oddly. Never realized it was them tip the reveal.
I think in #1 Team Rocket really didn't give a crap about their disguises anymore because they knew that no matter what they did they hardly ever would be recognised anyways (and then they basically only put on costumes anymore as a hobby or something).
The picture you showed close to the end of them as punks is actually one of my favourite best disguises. They even changed their hair for that which else hardly ever happens.

i remember a disguise from x and y actually stumped me, and when they were revealed to be jesse and james, i was suprised.

I won't mind Ash or Misty falling for the disguise... But Pikachu, being based on some sort of mouse, not recognizing the distinctive smell of one single cat?
Well, the entire national police force including a huge dog squad falls for it, knowing there's only one talking Meowth in the whole world. So yeah, ACAB (all cops are bidoofs) and Pokémon can't smell confirmed.
