Some fun fact about Jasmine: According to her Pokemon Adventures GSC Arc, she was formerly a Rock-type specialist, using an Onix as her ace, then her Onix evolved into Steelix, a Pokemon that, at that time, was not documented anywhere by anyone. She handily defeated Brock using this unknown Pokemon in the Johto-Kanto exhibition series, prompting Prof. Oak to introduce the new Steel type into the mix.
I always wished Gym Leaders were based on Type Moves, so you can only make a team that can resist specific moves. Like Brock prefers Pokemon that can use Rock type attacks, so you get Pokemon that use Rock Throw(Gen 1) or Rock Tomb(Gen 3), so any Pokemon that can learn it can be on his team. Or Stat specific, like Brock is Phys Def, Misty is Spl Def, Lt Surge is Speed, Erika is Phys & Spl Def, Koga is Phys Def & Spl Atk, Sabrina Spl Atk & Speed, Blaine is Phys & Spl Ark, Giovanni is Phys Atk & Def. That way Brock has an Onix Kabuto, while Misty has Starmie & Omanyte

With Norman, I think it'd be cool if his second type was grass, fire or water, depending on which starter the protagonist chose, being the same type as said starter. Thematically this works with him being the protagonist's father, and - if we are allowed to break the regional dex rule in this instance - it could be one of the Johto starters, either in middle or final form, to reflect the character's Johto regipn origins.
personally i'd have him use the type that's super effective against your starter; this adds more challenge since it effectively cripples your ace and forces you to use a more type diverse team rather than relying on your starter as a crutch, but it also works since he literally tells you in-game that he won't battle you until you've become stronger and makes you come back to his gym later after getting your first few gym badges. that would make it all the more satisfying to finally beat him imo since he initially turns you away for being too weak to battle him, and then he'd be incredibly difficult to defeat once you do finally get to him since he uses the powerful Slaking and other strong normal types (like Belly Drum using Linoone, for example), plus a strong Pokemon that's super effective against your starter. that would really ramp up the challenge of Norman's gym battle and make it really live up to the in-story hype, making the player defeating their father in a gym battle seem like an even bigger achievement while also giving you the satisfaction of coming out on top after an intense battle.

next video idea: If Every Gym Leader Have Their Own Additional Rules, e.g. permanent Sandstorm in a Rock Gym Leader battle (inspired by Radical Red and other difficulty ROM hacks)
Morty hot fix: He literally says he has Psychic powers in HGSS, give him Psychic types. Misdreavus, Haunter, and Gengar stay, but we also add Xatu and Drowzee. The Drowzee nods to his friend Eusine, who uses one. Jasmine, I think would work better as either Rock or Electric. Rock cause she used them before Steel type was discovered in the manga, and Electric because of both her Magnemite and because of the Ampharos she cares for. Pryce could be Ground because of Piloswine or Grass cause his middle name is Willow. Water still works best though.

The idea of Fairy being the additional type for Sabrina just feels fitting, imo, what with Valeries's fairy gym also using a warp tile puzzle and the otherworldly fae eeriness that Pokemon occasionally touches on with the type. (Plus, Valerie's gym being based on a dollhouse... Sabrina's whole thing in the anime... It's not so much a reason as a fun parallel but it's cool!)
I love korrina having pawniard because a) it matches her colors, and b) the previously mentioned Helmet particularity, but mostly because it's so funny for her as a skater who is wearing rollerBLADES to have a pokemon covered in BLADES
Awesome video! Fun fact 33:23 Giving Steelix to Raihan was also a choice made by Zactoshi, in his Pokemon Journeys rewrite to he focused instead on galar rather than spanning every region
Definitely she should be Steel Electric, it matches the magnetons and that Ampharos is iconic, plus many steel types learn electric moves and vice versa
Yeah, pretty much all media except her regular gym battle pairs her with Ampharos (who is recovering from illness and is busy working at the lighthouse).

Altaria, Skarmory & Tropius still on her team + Gloom [before her gym & Safari Zone] & Shiftry [Learn a lot of wind move, flying type like whirlwind, tailwind, hurricane]
I am once again here to reiterate the fact that the Elite Four of gen 1 use the four types with the least amount of Pokemon in the gen. There are exactly five Ice-types one of which is Articuno, eight Fighting-types five of which are fully evolved, three Ghost- and three Dragon-types.
Switching Turtwig for Bulbasaur wouldn't have annoyed me as much, but yeah Turtwig to Chimchar is a wild change. Anyways Gardenia as a Grass/Poison makes way more sense, between her ace Roserade, her love for the move Toxic in the rematch, the fact you can catch Stunky nearby, and the fact she uses Bellossom in the rematch so she could easily have a Grass/Poison Gloom. Maybe even throw in a Carnivine, who is pure Grass but does learn Sludge Bomb (as a TM in DPPt, but as a level-up move in LA). Tangela also learns Poison Powder by level-up (in at least some generations) and is in the Pt Pokédex.
Fun fact, Volkner actually has a Pelipper in the BDSP rematches, and in general seems to have an affinity for Water types since he has quite a few of them on his teams in the Battle Tower.
27:47 Glossing over the fact that the literal Sun and Moon pokemon do not appear in the Pokemon Sun and Moon games. (Also bellossum/vileplume, which my friend assures me are sun/moon themed)

i don't *know* if i'd want a permanent switch into that for gym leaders, though it's not a hard no from me, but at the very least i'd love to see a gen where they do pull that kind of thing and give every gym leader two types or just a general theme of pokemon
I love these kind of videos where ya go threw each gym leader/Elite 4 and just talk about them. Also probs to Katie, the editing this video was amazing
15:46 at least in the Anime, Byron was the Oreburgh gym leader, and presumably a Rock specialist, before being asked to become Canalave' Gym leader and leaving Roark behind as Oreburgh's Gym leader
I've always wondered if Tulip was originally designed to be a Fairy specialist, but they decided to change her to Psychic when they wanted to have Ortega be the region's Fairy specialist instead.
I think the reason why Pinsir isn't used by any Kanto gym leader is because it was a Version Exclusive and in the remakes they just forgot about Pinsir.
@funnyyoshi The reason Pinsir isn't used by any Kanto gym leader is because there are no Bug specialists, and Pinsir doesn't have a secondary typing. There are no Kanto/Johto gym types that overlap. That's because you take all 8 types from Kanto, and all 8 types from Johto to give you 16/17 of all known types back then (Dark excluded). It is intentional game design, because Kanto and Johto are directly connected by geography, so players should encounter every type of gym after traveling through both regions. They threw a bone to Dark types by making the strongest Elite 4 member (Karen) a Dark-type specialist. If Bugsy had been a late-game gym leader, he might have had both Scyther and Pinsir, but since he wasn't, you couldn't justify giving him both.
Pinsir is rather forgettable tbf. I watched a YT video during the covid lockdown where two coworkers tried naming all Kanto pokemon and couldn't remember Pinsir.
This video must of taken a lot of time and work. The effort put into making most, if not all, of your videos really shows and I for one appreciate that.
As a kid I always justified this as them being such good trainers that they were specialized in two types. Whereas most trainers have to specialize in one. This also explained why the player is considered so good, we can use every type equally!
Can i just say i love all of these thumbnails? The high quality pictures of types on the white backyround just really does something for me. Idk what it is but i love it. Please keep making these.
always love these videos where you go through hypothetical team changes for gym leaders, and i sympathise with the extreme abundance of repeating type combos... but cmon mikey not every fighting specialist needs a machoke
Uh, Jasmine with ground type? Couldn’t it be better with Electric? With Ampharos and the whole light house thing and the two magnemites already on the team. Could also stretch it a bit with her visiting Sunnyshore, the city with an electric gym leader specifically hahah
Impossible to avoid is very true, I saw someone attempt to do it where everyone got a different type but it was done poorly since no gym leader could share a type, this is much better and on the expected quality from the great leader of team sky!
I have came here to tell you that i figured out some people have psychic powers and others don't.(I have dug way too deep into this) So to be clear I'm refering to how some trainer and other people can levitate their pokeballs and stuff while most other people don't. My original theory was that either they learned it later on or were just born with them. Sabrina claims on her gym dialogue that she has had it since she was a child. Which you would THINK that would mean that some people are born with said powers, however in her ending dialogue she mentions that "Everyone has psychic powers, they just don't realise it". Which further adds to the confusion. And ok, maybe Let's go isn't Cannon, there are some Inconsistencies with the lore and the fact that red is not the champion and instead your rival while Red is still known has the champion of Kanto. So let's check her dialogue in Pokemon Yellow, the most "cannon" Kanto game. Oh wait IT'S THE SAME DIALOGUE. So, this could only mean that Sabrina was either trained to use her psychic powers at a young age. And assuming her end dialogue is accurate, that means that people can learn how to do psychic stuff wenether they want. They just don't do it for an unknown, and honestly dumb, reason.

I remember Crasher Wake using a dedicated rain team in the Gen 4 remake rematch battle and being probably the hardest of the eight because of it.
Jasmine would be rock and steel as she used to be a rock specialist
Physical types: Fighting, Ground, Rock, Steel.
Magical types: Dark, Fairy, Ghost, Psychic.
Tactical types: Bug, Electric, Flying, Water.
Special types: All!
34:55 Somehow I can picture her doing that if she was a gaming streamer and it wouldn't even feel out of character
Katie's editing has gone so much better now
Katie didn’t edit this video though 😭
@@finchieee😅💀
Kyle is crying rn
I love these kind of videos where ya go threw each gym leader/Elite 4 and just talk about them. Also probs to Katie, the editing this video was amazing
15:46 at least in the Anime, Byron was the Oreburgh gym leader, and presumably a Rock specialist, before being asked to become Canalave' Gym leader and leaving Roark behind as Oreburgh's Gym leader
I like the idea for norman, other than the fact that adding a dusclops would make him broken for newer trainers
I've always wondered if Tulip was originally designed to be a Fairy specialist, but they decided to change her to Psychic when they wanted to have Ortega be the region's Fairy specialist instead.
Another type that you can give to Ramos is probably ghost because Ramos is old.
Bro 💀
I think the reason why Pinsir isn't used by any Kanto gym leader is because it was a Version Exclusive and in the remakes they just forgot about Pinsir.
Didn’t stop Blaine from having both Ninetales and Arcanine.
Didn’t stop Erica from using Victreebel and Vileplume
Okay, I take that back I forgot about those.
Great video, it was really fun!
On a side note, Clemont using a Luxray would be pretty weird since it’s not in the Kalos Dex.
It feels satisfying to see a team with both Espeon and Sylveon.
This video must of taken a lot of time and work. The effort put into making most, if not all, of your videos really shows and I for one appreciate that.
Its wholesome that both brock and jasmine have onix as their aces idk why , i just find it sweet
As a kid I always justified this as them being such good trainers that they were specialized in two types. Whereas most trainers have to specialize in one. This also explained why the player is considered so good, we can use every type equally!
12:35 Whiscash should stay as it handles electric, poison, and steel types
Can i just say i love all of these thumbnails? The high quality pictures of types on the white backyround just really does something for me. Idk what it is but i love it. Please keep making these.
5:30 I like Morty's scarf too! Adding a scarf to any character design will immediatly make them cooler!
36:36 "Refined Fairy type". So we're just gonna ignore the fact it's a ruthless predator then? As it is EXPLICITLY stated to be in the Alola Dex?
Idc it's cute
it's ok they're just quirky :)
Rotom Dex loves to exaggerate
My favorite lil fairy is both cute and a menace to dragon type society and I love it.
always love these videos where you go through hypothetical team changes for gym leaders, and i sympathise with the extreme abundance of repeating type combos...
but cmon mikey
not every fighting specialist needs a machoke
Honestly tell that to Pokémon themselves.
Gyrados, Machoke, Geodude, and Magnemite. The 4 horsemen of forcing their way onto gym leader teams.
It is the most flexible, though. Its BST is fitting for most of the midgame.
After 25 years, I JUST now realize Whitney's gym was in a shape of Cliffary. Wow
4:14 "and frankly it's weird that they don't end up in his final battle."
Yellow: Am I a joke to you? Persian exists on his Gym Leader team.
I love your "What if" Pokemon videos. Always a fun thought project. As always, very creative logic with the intrest of fun in mind over balance.
Holy crap the editing for these videos leveled up. Anybody else seeing this!?
I noticed it too, yeah! His past videos were never what I'd call bad in that regard, but his editor's stepped things up here!
Uh, Jasmine with ground type? Couldn’t it be better with Electric? With Ampharos and the whole light house thing and the two magnemites already on the team. Could also stretch it a bit with her visiting Sunnyshore, the city with an electric gym leader specifically hahah
She never uses Ampharos for battle
@@shelbybayer200she still could’ve done it
@@shelbybayer200that argument falls apart when you watch like...the entire rest of the video lol
4:50 damn, not the boot 😂😂
31:10 he’s very proud of himself for this
Replace koga's pinsir with Scyther. They make a big deal how it uses all these ninja techniques
Its ironic how aquatic Claire’s team is when her whole gym is full of lava
@@sooqible It's why the anime switched it to a pool of water instead 😆
This is such an insane video idea! I would love to see this implemented into an actual game!
16:47 Candice uses Glaceon when you battle her in the Battle Area in post game Platinum.
I really like you using Gen 5 animated sprites. Props to Kaite!!
Katie went hard on this
EDIT : WHITNEY SHOULD BE NORMAL,DARK
so real because she’s evil
5:00 Whitney, URGHHHH got me rolling hahahahahahaha. I love how Mikey often expresses obvious dislike for Whitney it’s so funny
Who wants mandjtv to play Pokemon Xenoverse, Like Here!
I love Xenoverse.
I'm re-playing it right now with my sister
Yeah i miss when mikey would do playthroughs on here but i get that they don't get as many views
Always liked Xenoverse
Wanted to do a playthrough, but interested in what Mikey gets for his team
21:00 Beheeyem can also learn Steel Wing, which while not exclusive to Flying types, usually is on at least flying things or birds. Thematic link!
4:59 was the most genuine “ugh” I’ve ever heard lol
Loved how many great, incredibly well thought-out ideas you suggested in this video (and that was possibly the best sponsor segment ever)
8:47 it's ironic he likes to surf since he is played by the same guy that voiced Sonic lmao
Jason Griffith who also voices Cilan my 2nd favorite gym leader in the anime after Brock
@@Rainbow_Blitz I didn't know that that's awesome
Impossible to avoid is very true, I saw someone attempt to do it where everyone got a different type but it was done poorly since no gym leader could share a type, this is much better and on the expected quality from the great leader of team sky!
It's pretty inevitable considering with 8 gyms, you'd need to use 16 out of 18 types.
7:12 I like seel! Look at his face! He's so playful!
EXCUSE ME MICHAEL, SEEL IS ADORABLE
Seel deserves respect!
People definitely like Seel more than Dewgong lol
@@netheriteswordstudios6178 after the tragedy in the first movie?I don't think anyone likes Dewgong🤣
27:49 "since there not in the game "
Me: the literal sun and mood pokemon not in sun and moon .
Great modern game design. 26:50 BTW.
I have came here to tell you that i figured out some people have psychic powers and others don't.(I have dug way too deep into this)
So to be clear I'm refering to how some trainer and other people can levitate their pokeballs and stuff while most other people don't.
The editing is really on point here Kyle!!!
23:37 Grant is an athlete, like Marlon, by your logic he should be a fighting type...
4:00 Magmar and Electabuzz are named Magboo and Eleboo inn Japanese, the similarity is more than passing.
Actually magmar is boober
Juan is real, people don't complain about him enough
Jasmine:
1 steeling and 2 magnemite....
Is gamefreak telling us something?
