Our visit Wrocław travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting castles, churches and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Wrocław tourism brochure, Wroclaw itinerary or Wrocław, Poland city tour.
10 Things to do in Wrocław, Poland Travel Guide
In today’s video we’re taking you around Wroclaw. This was the second stop of our month-long trip through Poland, and we liked it right from Day 1. Our visit to the city was spent wandering through the University Quarter, cruising down the Oder River, stumbling into a secret courtyard, and enjoying a tasty meal or two along the way. The following is our travel guide to some of the best things to do in Wroclaw, Poland:
The University Quarter is located in the north end of the Old Town and it’s worth visiting even if your days as a student are over. Here you’ll find the University of Wroclaw, which is one of the oldest academic institutions in Central Europe. The architecture is also stunning! I mean, could you imagine being a student here?
Since we couldn’t visit the interior of the university, we stopped by the university church, also known as the Parish of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Admission is free of charge, though donations are welcome, and once you’re in, don’t forget to look up!
Continuing our random wanderings through Wroclaw, we reached the Ossolineum, which quickly piqued our curiosity. Once a hospital and convent, and later a college, today it houses one of the largest scientific libraries in Poland as well as the national archive. We visited the courtyard surrounded by mirrored windows and hydrangeas, and if felt like a secret garden.
Cathedral island is the oldest part of Wroclaw. It was formerly an island that sat between two branches of the Oder River, and while that’s no longer the case, it still has a cathedral.
With much better weather, we then followed the previous day’s path back to Cathedral Island. Along the way, we visited the Silver Arch, which is a pretty cool sculpture on one of the smaller islands, and then it was time for a river cruise.
Our next stop was Hala Targowa, or Market Hall. It’s a nice spot to hit up to get your daily supply of fresh fruits, deli meats, cheese and pastries, for a delicious yet affordable do-it-yourself meal.
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Wroclaw! As always, if you have any places to add to this list or any tips for fellow travellers share those below. Until next time and happy travels!
This is part of our Travel in Poland video series showcasing Polish food, Polish culture and Polish cuisine.

It's all German architecture in Breslau and also all of Silesia. The Polish ethnically cleansed over 4,5 million of the 4,7 million inhabitants of Silesia. 620,000 Germans were ethnically cleansed from the city of Breslau alone, that's over 98% of the population.

+Robert S That area was a part of Prussia/Germany for hundreds of years before WWII. After the war it was given to Poland even thought it had a majority German population. This was after the Germans had improved it with all its great architecture. Thanks for the reminder.

It's not quite like that. The oldest parts of Wroclaw originated during the reign of the Piast dynasty (Polish royal dynasty). In the fourteenth century, it passed into the hands of the Czechs. In the 16th century, Wrocław and the Kingdom of Bohemia became part of the Habsburg monarchy. In the 18th century, after the Silesian wars, the city, along with the majority of Silesia, was captured by King Frederic II and became part of Prussia.

Well the Polish had to ethnically cleanse 4.5 million Germans from Silesia to make it Polish. 600.000 from Breslau/Wroclaw alone so it should be pronounced BRESLAU in the first place. It was renamed to hide it's previous Silesian inhabitants and the largest ethnic cleansing in History.

    • @tomaszk9210
      @tomaszk9210 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

More interesting is that how many Polish citizens was killed in IIWW, just before relocation of Germans (your "etnically cleaning" is moving to the other place, Poles and Polish Judes were murdered and enslaved). 6 millions? Oh, wait, that's nothing to you. Anyway, do You think Breslau, Lipzig, Berlin and other are German names? Germanised maybe, but nothing more.

When you were up on the tower, you may have seen a mountain on the horizon. This mountain is called Ślęża, it is also called the Slavic Olympus. The Slavs worshiped this mountain already before our era. There are still statues there, a bear, a maiden with a fish and other obelisks, the age of these statues is unknown and they are associated with Celtic culture because it comes from there. In the Wrocław market square, in the town hall, there is the oldest restaurant in Europe, called Piwnica Świdnicka. The Świdnickie beer, known in medieval Europe, was served. It was the favorite beer of the then pope. Unfortunately, the recipe for this beer has been lost. You didn't show Wrocław's dwarves, there are over 300 of them hidden here and there in Wrocław. I watched your previous vlogs from Poland and it was really nice to watch.😄

Interesting fact from the market square: there is a fake/painted window on one of the buildings, which tourists are meant to spot. It's purpose is mainly for maintaining symmetry in the composition but it's an attraction too. Another thing you should definitively do next time is dwarf hunting - I think there is around 500 gnomes hidden across the city and you're meant to spot as many as you can. And the last but not least is the Zoo, which in my opinion is one of the best ones in the world.

    • @samuelandaudrey

Any point anywhere in the city which requires attention from the Mayor Office? How did you communicate with locals ? how it is easy to get a ride on a taxi, tram, train.. How did you feel every evening walking down the City Market and been touted/hunted by girls with umbrellas? What do you think about cleanliness of that town? Restaurants? bars? nightclubs? tnx
