Hey Emmy, I can't believe that something from my childhood is considered genius 😂 I'm in my 50's and any poor little black kid from the Southside of Chicago made this when we wanted ice cream but our parents were like wait til the weekend. Or we had to wait until payday, in our family in particular 😁. We also froze Coca-Cola and Kool-Aid until they were ALMOST completely frozen so that we could have Icee's. You are right that the longer the milk is completely frozen the better it is to make ice cream. It wasn't soft serve then, just homemade ice cream from a blender 😅

Blenders are a one time purchase that lasts forever. They also sell them pretty cheap at the thrift store. It isn't rocket science how someone could get a blender for cheap or even free if it's handed down to you without having the money to buy ice cream ever month.

I'm also in my 50s and as a poor kid from Appalachia we also did the same thing. We just froze the chocolate milk in a plastic cup, then used a spoon to scrape and mix until we got a soft consistency. We never had a blender. We'd freeze all sorts of stuff from pop to juices and do this for a summer treat.😊

Very thick and rich-tasting, but it needs an emersion blender, or just a spoon and elbow grease, to get that texture, otherwise adding enough liquid to blend it in a blender can make it icy.

I've made frozen popsicles with freezing pudding. My favorite 'I need a milkshake NOW' but don't have ice cream at home is just putting milk (1%, 2%, or whatever) in a food processor and whipping it full blast. Near the end I sprinkle some instant cocoa powder and quickly pulse that in. It is a large 'imitation' milkshake that you have to drink immediately because the whipped up bubbles turn back into flat milk. It probably works in a blender too, but only tried it in my processor. Yum.

Do you think this would work with oat or nut milk? I loveee Planet Oat Oat Milk and I feel like their chocolate milk would be delicious in soft serve form 😋
Also, Wright's Scoop in North Smithfield...their black raspberry oreo is to die for 🤤

U could do this n put heaving cram or whipped topping instead of chocolate milk use it to thin it down n it would come out creamier

Ooh i bet the chocolate milk cubes and the coffee milk cubes would make an amazing ice cream. I'll have to try that. ❤

Try the Ninja Creami if you can, I think you will love it (I am not related to them in any manner but I had one for two years, broke, replaced with a new one under warranty, I use it a LOT).

Another thing about most ice cube trays is that you can often just pour into one (sometimes works better at an angle), and it’ll spill over into the next one that isn’t completely full (it does usually mean interstitial ice between the cells, but usually not a problem)

adding cornstarch slurry may help in preventing the icy crystals :)

There’s a few farm stores in my area that make their own chocolate milk. I’m tempted to give this a try.

I've done a version of this since I was little, except that I'd just put the glass of chocolate milk in the freezer, and pull it out after an hour, stir, then wait another hour and then eat it with a spoon. Its delish.

Blending frozen chocolate pudding without liquid makes stretchy ice cream.😊

There's a lactose free chocolate milk at target! It's the fair life brand. I'm the same as you where I don't get sick sometimes from dairy, and other times I do. I don't tend to get sick from that brand of milk though!

I've made 1 ingredient Icecream from flavoured yoghurts and custards (vla in Dutch is a prepped custard with flavorings like chocolate, vanilla p.e.) Did is not creamy enough in my opinion, but glad you tried it
