    Hi Will, great video as always :) just thought I would let you know you don't actually need to press the lens release button while mounting the lens, only when removing it. Came into an amazing deal for a Mamiya 6 MF a couple weeks ago but prior to that I shot with a 645 Pro and Super and the 70mm f2.8 and 150mm f3.5 lenses are stunning, absolutely my favourite MF camera (except for now the 6)

    • @willysheepskin
      @willysheepskin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ohhh nice catch Dylan! I figured that might be the case but didn’t want to risk snapping something by not doing it so just did it as a precaution haha. Thanks for clarifying! Congrats on your Mamiya 6 btw! I know a guy that’d been looking for a good one for ages after letting his go and finally settled on a Hassy system recently haha. Glad the only thing from the video that stuck out to an experienced user such as yourself was my lens release comment! Gets quite tricky explaining stuff from memory in one take ahaha

      @@willysheepskin you do a great job mate, and you basically always have the correct info so ☺️ it’s really just a small thing, I just thought I would mention it so that people aren’t cramping to do mount the lens ahaha your mamiya 7 video actually convinced me not to bother getting the mamiya 6 but it’s a dream camera so I had to. In any case going to have to upgrade my scanning setup now :)

    • @willysheepskin
      @willysheepskin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dylan.thissen for sure man now I can safely do it without tweaking any fingers either thanks to you haha! The mamiya 6 actually seems nicer than the 7 in some ways tbh, the fact that it can get even more compact is something I'd love to have on the 7. The lenses are also still super good, I scanned a bunch of Mam6 stuff for someone and the negatives were super crisp. I look forward to hearing how you get along with it! Make some money with that bad boi and use it to pick up a nicer scanning situation! Best bang for your buck would be a DSLR setup but if you're brave and save the lower end imacons are still wonderful haha ;)

    • @dylan.thissen
      @dylan.thissen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willysheepskin I feel insane for it but I've not really made much money with my photography honestly, I've done some portraiture on the side and made some money from that but chasing after people for money and stuff just didn't feel very gratifying and my heart wasn't really in it. I prefer landscape and nature photography mostly, I'm actually an environmental research biologist as my main job but I take photos of my friends and work life on the side as my passion :)
      I might give some commercial portraiture a go again though, feel like the Mamiya 6 isn't just a casual camera in the way I got my previous M645s at really low prices and I need to get some money back on that investment. Definitely love how compact it gets for when I'm hiking and climbing in the mountains. I think I'll probably go for a DSLR scanning setup as it wouldn't be hard, I already have a macro lens for work and a digital camera for that side of things and an old beat up light pad for looking at negatives so all I really need is a copy stand and to purchase negative lab pro or some other inversion software.
      You seem to manage a really good balance between working for yourself and working for others, how have you managed to do that?

    • @willysheepskin
      @willysheepskin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dylan.thissen ah dude there’s nothing wrong with making photos for the love of it and earning a living elsewhere - it’s probably a lot more fun that way and being an environmental research biologist sounds pretty rad haha!
      I’m terms of balancing things out, I’ve just ended up in a position after years of working purely out of passion where I have a skill set that people are in need of so I get to scan/color grade stuff and assist photographers for money which is pretty much the bulk of my income especially in the slow season. I do the shoots I’m keen on on the side but am still trying to mainly work on my body of work as a whole and build a photographic identity before I push too hard to be 100% full time earning a living off just my own images. If that does happen I want to have a monumentally strong portfolio haha!
      I’m eternally grateful for being able to do things the way I do at the moment though cus it’s what I’ve wanted for yeaaars so being super happy to be doing the work is always a plus!

    Awesome video!! I have a Mamiya RB67 Pros S with a WLVF and 127mm F3.8 lens on the way, I’ve been shooting a Pro S with a 90mm F3.8 that I borrowed to see if I would like it, from your experience is there a big difference in framing between the 90 and the 127? I enjoy the 90 and worried I might not like the 127

    • @willysheepskin
      @willysheepskin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Travis! Congrats on your purchase! The 127 is a really nice lens, it might feel a bit zoomed in compared to the 90 though. I’ve personally found the 90 to be great for general use but the 127 is more suited to portrait/ fashion stuff. You do get better background separation with the 127 and it can definitely still be used as a walk-about lens cus I did that for a few months, but I think you’ll notice the difference between it and the 90 - not to any extent that it’ll ruin things for you though!

    • @willysheepskin
      @willysheepskin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The precision’s are great to get into cus they’re for sure going to be the best priced ones and can still scan up to 4x5, you’ll just need to be ready to do some maintenance on it cus they’re pretty ancient at this point for electronics haha!
      I don’t reckon I’ll ever do a color process video cus I try to put stuff out there that I can offer some insight on and my color workflow is pretty much the same as any yt film color editing tutorial except I’m working with Imacon scans lol! The Imacon pretty much does all the work and one just has to get rid of the casts to have a glorious image!
      Do shoot me a message if you pick up that precision and I’ll happily help you out - I’m going to do a workflow/setup video on my scanner for sure at some point so maybe that’ll be useful!

      Ahoy! I've only ever owned the M645 and played with this Pro TL. Both of those are nice to use - The M645 I think was a bit heavier since it was made of metal but being made of metal it was also more likely to last. This Pro TL is really nice ergonomically and has some great features, like the removable film back, motor winder and hotshoe etc but being plastic it's less durable.
      If you look towards the bottom of this comment section there should be a comment from a user called "Pain" asking about the 645 vs the RB67, and a user called "plasticpaddy" responded giving some further insights into the differences across the 645 range!
