The thing I love about the 6 x 4,5 is also the ratio aspect that is very close to the 35mm. I do not feel like a lost sheep when I switch from my 35 mm to my medium format
It's not a rare moment, not a rare composition and no rare light. I'm not seeing it either. The same photo has been taken a thousand times with an iPhone and I see the same thing when I walk outside in the evening. But I came to accept TH-camrs handing out handjobs to each other in comments. It comes with the territory. Bad for quality though.

Fyi, at 4:12, you can do long exposures with bulb mode and the shutter set to self-timer mode. First button press opens the shutter, then a second button press closes it. Not sure about the Super, but that's how it works on my Pro!
OMG this is a dream film camera. I love watching this kind of content the learning is genuine. Thank you so much. You're truly an artist. Wish I can afford film photography.

Hey Willem! I just recently bought my first film camera, and I am really loving talking photos with it! Your videos are awesome and very helpful! Thank you!!!!!

The photo at 7:19 has some sort of light leak. I have the same struggle with my Mamiya RB67. It's not there the whole time. Some rolls have it and some don't. Did you figure what happend? Do you know what it could be?
same, though i usually dont mind it. its probably old/damaged light seal on the film back. also keeping the dark slide in white you rotate the back from landscape to portrait helps prevent it as well
this has nothing to do with the miyama 645 (because the camera is dope!), i truly appreciate your videos. you always go straight to the point and talk in very details about the topic, which has helped me a tons in learning about film photography! truly appreciate your channel!
man, it's so cool that you're doing this! i've been a photographer for 10 years now and got so hyped looking at your videos in regard to film!. keep up the good work!
Rz67 does have mirror lock up functions. Screw in a cable release into the side of your lens. The mirror is locked up in position after you fire the main shutter, and then you press on the cable release to make the extra exposure. I’ve been doing this for a while and it works very well. You don’t need the “double cable release” thing.
5:30 Total noob here. When he underexposes it by 2 stops, is it implied that the shutter speed is longer to compensate? Or is it done in post? Or development?
It gives them contrast and blueish fade shadows. When you underexpose film it usually give you these kind of results and sometimes it will look great and other times it will almost ruin a photo.
The Mamiya 645 Super is prone to the mirror box damper snapping off, rendering the camera inoperable. Some internal plastic parts they used in the 80s are now deteriorating. I recommend the Mamiya 645 Pro or Mamiya 645 ProTL as they used newer plastics.
Hi Willem. Couple of questions: 1. Could you share your method of archiving your work? 2. When you see an interesting location for a shot, do you list it down somewhere? And of course, thank you for another great video :)
Willem Verbeeck The 120 film was originally designed to give eight 6X9 negatives (8-on-120), to give compactness and greater film economy, cameras were made with two red windows giving 16 6X4.5 negatives (16-on-120). With a more modern camera like this, there's no need to use red windows to locate the frames, but Mamiya (along with others) decided to take 15 exposures on each roll, to give greater spacing between the frames. For mounted colour transparencies it is all very well, but it can make negative filing tricky: a negative filing sheet made for 120 cut into four lengths would easily accommodate each length with two 6X9, three 6X6, or four 6X4.5 as long as the 6X4.5 is shot as 16-on; but each strip of Mamiya 645 negatives, if as four frames, would be too long to fit comfortably, a factor to consider.
I love my 645 super. Mine came with the 45, 80 2.8, 150, 2 film backs, auto winder, and some extention tubes. Focusing is so easy with its big, bright viewfinder. Love your channel.
Just bought a Mamiya 645 Pro TL and LOVE IT! Thanks for the inspiration and great photos! Medium format is making a comeback, BABY! Well, we'll see ha ha...
I have been looking for more videos on this camera as I bought it literally 2 days ago, and you post this? Wow, what a blessing you are Williem. I just realized I know your pictures from r/analog. You are an inspiration. Gotta say.
great video, i found one of these in a box full of abandoned camera gear, now i just need to clean it up and try it out, this will be my first 120 camera
RZ67 does have mirror lockup, once you screw the cable release into the socket on the lens and then press the shutter on the camera, the mirror locks up.
Hey man just thought I would give you a shout and let you know that the RZ67 can mirror lock up, it’s done through attaching a cable release to the lens, then firing the trigger on the body, you then can activate the leaf shutter with the cable release making the camera have a “mirror lock up”!! Literally got the RZ67 because of your videos keep up the insanely high quality of work your putting out!!!!
the RZ67 has a mirror lock up feature put your cable release into the lens. if you turn it in, there will appear a red ring around the insert. now you can press the normal release at the bottom left in the front to lock up the mirror. then you can take the actual photo by pressing the cable release.
Never having owned anything but Hasselblads, I am intrigued by the 35mm-like moves you're pulling while taking portraits. As much as I love my Hasselblad-setup, I still feel my movement is restricted when using it. Probably partly down to the WLF, partly the inflexible format and perhaps partly down to the lack of internal meter... Interesting video. Food for thought for us medium format shooters.
@Arildhgs I had used a Hasselblad 500 C/M for decades. The best thing about shooting with it was that one didn't have to not hold it differently with portrait and landscape shoots. DIY grid on focusing screen with artist translucent tape would help in cropping. I also had a set of useful accessories such as meter prism, Polaroid Back (for preview), meter knob, quick winding crank and quick focus handle.
A 35mm film cam would be better if they haven't already got one, otherwise yeah this would be a great further introduction into a different format of film photography.
It's a small detail, but I love how you describe photography as "making photos" not "taking photos". I think it's what separates "just anyone with a camera" from a true artist like yourself. Thanks for the great review, keep up the good work!
