The 80mm f1.9 for the Mamiya 645 is the shallowed medium format standard lens there is. It’s also the go to lens on IMAX cameras on Christopher Nolan movies.
I have one of the older M645's (without the interchangeable backs) and it's a lovely little beast, hard to argue with that glass, and honestly don't think the negative size is that much of a deal breaker (if I want bigger I'll just...do 4x5).
Recently purchased a Mamiya m645 1000s, its my first medium format camera. Awaiting the test roll, but excited to see the results. Love ur vids, keep up the good work
I owned 2, with 5 or 6 backs and 2 Polaroid backs way back in the early 00s. Only issues it would sometimes have is that the shutter would get stuck. Other than that, best medium format camera imo.
One word of caution to be cognizant of with the 2nd generation of Mamiya 645 cameras is the weak mirror stop. The mirror stop is made of plastic and could break at any time. Make sure to check from time to time that it has not broken; especially when changing lenses so you don't lose the spring or screw on the mirror stop itself. There are 3D printer schematics to remake it but the screw and spring are essential for the operation. And if it does break, the mirror has to be re-calibrated for proper focusing after replacing the mirror stop.
Yup, I subscribed and hit the freaking bell icon. You gotta admire that you put yourself out there with basically no filter. .We see you for what you are, a crazy man with a good channel. Keep'em coming.

I couldn’t decide for a while which 6x45 camera to go with and seriously considered the Mamiya 645, but ended up going with a Bronica RF645 because it’s very compact and I get 16 shots per roll. Maybe I’ll pick up a Mamiya 645 in the future. 🤣

I think the Mamiya 645 is my favorite camera. I have three of the older model without the interchangeable back. One standard m645 and two of the 1000s bodies. One I took a gamble on because it cost less than what the 80mm 1.9 mounted to it was worth- fortunately, the lens is great. It needed a little lubrication but no haze, fungus, or separation. EX+++++ for real. The crank advance and shutter slap are sublime. The waist-level finder with the 45 degree split prism screen is terrific. Nice weighty feel in the hand but not too heavy…. Just a joy to use.
Nice to hear the shout out for the Bronica system. I have several and love them. Great modularity, and a decent price. A bit of a dark horse in medium format.
It looked like a great place to shoot, I might have to visit on my next trip over to California. You mentioned the Bronica 645, but you forgot the Contax 645. Did you also know you can get a 645 back for your Mamiya RZ67. Look forward to the next instalment of Mamiya goodness.
So much Mamiya goodness!!!! Unfortunately the RZ is not mine it’s just on a very long term loan so I didn’t really wanna invest in that system all that much. And let’s be real the contact 645 is out of everyone’s price range. Hahahah let’s not get peoples hopes up! Haha
My 70mm 2.8 LS (yes, leaf shutter) is in my all time top 2 favorite lenses that I own for any camera system (including my blad). Check it out if you can find it. I also shoot the 55 and the 150. Another nice bonus is that I can adapt them to my Mamiya ZM which produces amazing results on 35mm (same designer as the pro and the rz). I'm a 1000s shooter for many years because I need the simplicity and reliability, but I wish you great luck with your Pro over your last choice.
The 646 Pro TL was my first medium format camera, absolutely great piece of kit, but in the end I found the 6x4.5 ratio just too close to 35. Once I got an RB67 the 645 would just sit on my shelf going unused for too long, and so I sold it. But dang what a great camera, so so easy to use, I may not miss the format but I do miss the usability!
Hey Caleb, like you I have the Mamiya 7ii an RZ67ii and a couple of M645 pro's - I love how small, neat and modular the 645's are, I think I actually prefer the aspect ratio as well (don't tell my 6x7's!) Take a look at the the 50mm f4.0 shift lens, it's a great lens in it's own right but when you use the shift for pano's (3 shots stitched) or architectural work it's just awesome.
You should do a video on the 35mm back for the 645. Because noone on youtube seems to have done it. Although I think the interest in the 35mm back is slim since it takes sort of a cropped panoramic photo (I read something about 13x36mm).

At first I was like "aw would have been nice to see a Bronica camera review". A few seconds after, your collection of Mamiya cameras appeared on screen and all I can say is: Understandable, have a nice day.
Bronica ETR and Mamiya M645, really different cameras. Using strobes or flash=Bronica. Less plastic=Bronica. Smallest size=Bronica. Lightest weight=Mamiya. Long lenses=Mamiya. Lens & accessory availability=Mamiya. I've owned both, think Mamiya has brighter prism, at least in Pro version. Which is better ? Depends what your needs are.
Heck yeah thanks, super 8 and it’s similar film options is my next venture although jason and yours large format videos really made a strong push to go in that direction also.
Caleb!! Has no one told you that you don't have to take off the entire filmback to load both the Mamiya 645 and RZ67? Just the magazine. Tha filmback can stay on.
Your some sort of voodoo mind reader as I have a browser full of open listings for a Mamiya 645, ill likely be opting for the 1000S just because i don't need the interchangeable film backs and current shoot with a Mamiya C3 so weight isn't a problem. Some fantastic images in there great video!
I actually want to buy a Hasselblad 500CM but to be honest $1800+ is a lot of money for a hobby so... I think the Mamiya 645 is a great, way cheaper option.
645 is such a nice middle ground format, also the Mamiya is a great platform to adapt lenses onto! That's why the RB/ZD67 sucks and the Pentax 67 rocks! :D
Funny story: a have a similar camera, except for the light meter prism, that I won in a raffle right in my birthday 🤩 Well, I tell this story in my channel, but in Brazilian Portuguese so... Be my guest if you wanna try your Portuguese skills 🤣 nice video, man 👏👏👏

@@BadFlashes 😝 Jason never replies so I have to make fun of him on here. He was wearing some High Water Pants (capris) in a clip. Jason is so cool. Sometimes after a few, okay, several Steele Reserves I’ll put of his videos on, squint my eyes, and pretend he’s Ryan Gosling from the latest Blade Runner movie. This usually doesn’t end well tho, as we only have one computer in the house and it’s in the dining room, so sometimes my mom freaks out when she walks and catches me doing this. Haha. I just a few years ago before I even got my Pentax 67… it was the second medium format I had ever shot.
At first I was like "aw would have been nice to see a Bronica camera review". A few seconds after, your collection of Mamiya cameras appeared on screen and all I can say is:
Understandable, have a nice day.
Haha Solid. Super clutch!!!!!
I can see that. I’ve held a Bronica before and that why I almost went with one. Maybe someday I’ll shoot one for the giggles :)
So what did you do with the Pentax, just wasn’t repairable?
Nope… the electronics were done for and there is no coming back from that.
DOPE VIDEO AND SHOTS! SUBBED!! KEEP GETTING IT!💪🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾👊🏾
Oh ya ya!!!! I’m so happy you found your way here. 🥳
would you reccomend the pro or the super?
I think they are about the same overall.
How is shooting vertical stuff with this camera?
I don’t find it a problem at all. So you can go nuts 🔩🥜
Whats the super 8 camera model?
It’s a Bolex macro zoom 160 I believe
Heck yeah thanks, super 8 and it’s similar film options is my next venture although jason and yours large format videos really made a strong push to go in that direction also.
Follow your heart!!!! :)
Sorry it took me this long to realize I had not subscribed! ........I am now lol.
Oh my God how dare you 😆 🤣
I can’t be too mad now I guess haha
Where is the Mamiya C330 in your Mamiya Family?
I know! I’ve just never been presented with the opportunity… I mean I have a yashica
neck strap optional?
They have lugs on the side but I usually don’t use straps for cameras like this.
Caleb!! Has no one told you that you don't have to take off the entire filmback to load both the Mamiya 645 and RZ67? Just the magazine. Tha filmback can stay on.
Haha I know. 😂
Aw thanks!! I’m glad I’ve really tapped into my mind reading abilities haha
Nick Carver has one of these badboys, and Imve been desiring one ever since… that Mamiya glass…
Lol I get that. They are great!
What are the odds! I just got a m645!
Oh yeah!!!!! Nice that’s great. Ahead of the curve 😆
I actually want to buy a Hasselblad 500CM but to be honest $1800+ is a lot of money for a hobby so... I think the Mamiya 645 is a great, way cheaper option.
It really is! I just shot an engagement session on mine and loved it !!!!!
You’re like if Deadpool owned a Mamiya 😂
100% into that!!!! 😝
@@BadFlashes The Merc with a Mamiya!!!
yes!
Hells yea
645 is such a nice middle ground format, also the Mamiya is a great platform to adapt lenses onto! That's why the RB/ZD67 sucks and the Pentax 67 rocks! :D
I love my Pentax 67!!!
@@BadFlashes don't see why anyone wouldn't :D
DUDE, hOq dIs yOu FiNd ThAt CamErA eQuIpEnT.... on the fly?
Haha why the weird camel case????
That's a shame. I vastly prefer my Pentax 645N to my Mamiya 645 but then again my Pentax didn't unalive itself within the first months of owning it.
Haha fair. I know plenty of peeps he do love them. I’m glad yours is still kicking :)
Hey, you forgot to post the link for the film daddy adoption papers... dm me? Also would that make Baxter my film grand dad?
Haha oh DMAN, that’s right I’ll get on that 😝
Funny story: a have a similar camera, except for the light meter prism, that I won in a raffle right in my birthday 🤩 Well, I tell this story in my channel, but in Brazilian Portuguese so... Be my guest if you wanna try your Portuguese skills 🤣 nice video, man 👏👏👏
Hahah glad you like the video! Also that’s awesome you won the camera on your bday!!! That’s some good vibes right there.
A Mamiya 645 1000S was my 2nd medium format camera and it was a great camera. I took some of my favorite photos with it. Congratulations and I hope it's as reliable for you as my 1000S was for me.
Aw thanks! It’s been good to me so far!
Bronica!!!
hahah someday ill try it
@@BadFlashes If you do, try to find an ETR and the 135W back, it's my favorite budget hardware for 35mm panoramas. I just love the camera, it's super versatile!
Oh that’s what I totally wanted to do if I got that camera! Glad that’s what you suggest
Join the darkside and go for the Kiev 88, the hasselbladski never does any wrong
Haha never tried it. Maybe someday
well you've done it again first i bought a Canon EOS1n after watching you video now ive bought a Mamiya 645 Pro TL with grip waist level finder AE finder Power grip and 2 lenses a 80mm and 45mm you are a bad influence
hahaha ... yeah I don't refute that
@@BadFlashes did you ever get round to buying the 80mm f1.9 lens im considering getting one along with the 35mm f3.5 and possibly the 50mm f4 shift
No, but I am borrowing an 80mm 2.8 … 80 is not my jam though
@@BadFlashes ive spent so many years shooting with a 50mm on 35mm film the 80 on the 645 just seems natural to me now
Do you like ska?
I definitely did in high school!
@@BadFlashes fasho
Did your BF accidentally bring his GF’s capris instead of his jorts
So confused by this statement lol 😆
@@BadFlashes 😝 Jason never replies so I have to make fun of him on here. He was wearing some High Water Pants (capris) in a clip. Jason is so cool. Sometimes after a few, okay, several Steele Reserves I’ll put of his videos on, squint my eyes, and pretend he’s Ryan Gosling from the latest Blade Runner movie.
This usually doesn’t end well tho, as we only have one computer in the house and it’s in the dining room, so sometimes my mom freaks out when she walks and catches me doing this. I just end up looking at her with my squinty eyes and start impersonating Jason. I have several of his videos memorized.
We like tiny things cos we can control them. We don't like big things cos we can't control them. Like my

nah fam
Aw fam
Mnamamiya 69420
That’s such a different experience. Lol
the clip of the 645n dying in your hands will never not be funny im so sorry
Haha no no… at this point it’s legend. Haha
That’s why I keep using it 🤣
A pink toilet on black and white film?! Shame on you.
Don’t worry you will see a color version soooon
