Nice review of the 17R. I wish it had been available when we bought our 17B. I can understand how you might not be comfortable storing the sewer hose in the bumper for fear of losing it. The caps on the ends just do not seem dependable. I have also heard horror stories of people losing their hoses on the Interstate. I will, however, say that storing your sewer hose in some place near other items will probably become yucky to you. No matter what you do, it becomes very gross. The bumper is preferred to us because it means that it has a separate place where it touches nothing else. We have solved the issue of possibly losing the hose by installing a hitch pin through the bumper. Some other people suggest that using a PVC pipe under the camper is the best way to go. I agree, it might be. We have recently purchased a full size queen mattress. Sure, it takes in 4 inches of the shelf at the end, but it is mostly worthless anyway. We will subscribe to your channel so we can watch your progress and experience.
Love your camper! I would add the stairs to enter are actually quite sturdy as far as campers go. I am a plus size person with bad knees and I was comfortable getting in and out of your camper!!! Great review!!
Awesome to see a real-world review of one of these. I hope to get one soon! Gonna be my house, rent is too expensive if you can even find a place available.
good video for helping others in buying their trailer...note: just remember there is no bathroom sink, no spare tire, no front stabilizer, no hitch, air conditioner leaks water on the outside (leaks inside if the trailer is not level...no porch light...kitchen table is rather flimsy...if you get the bunkbed model, the top bunk does not have a window (maybe claustrophobic for some)...need to buy another foam padding for the bed for comfort...one person added a max fan...do not know if tv antenna is included...there is no tv...single axle is okay just remember the recommended speed is 55 mph for single axle...did i leave anything out?...i am looking at buying this trailer...
@@melvinbbgrantaia114 i can only guess...on the net, there is a three year structural warranty...but they make money on extended warranty...but guess what, like my son's trailer, he has to take it to the dealer for routine maintenance costing $$$...cost of a new heater, refrigerator and air conditioner is $$$$...but hey you get to go camping several times a year...
Good points. The power TV antenna has worked well for us. Except for the most remote locations, we often get more than 40 channels. At one place we got over 100.
I live in mine. Do not use butane stove so I have a topper that currently covers sink and 2 burners overhangs 8 inches. My sink window is like your bedside window, an emergency exit. I've done bunch of little things too many to type out tho.
The only real advice would offer is to get a Battery cut off switch. it is destructive to run your battery down to nothing. They cost only $15-$20 and that is much less expensive than buying a new battery.
Great video! As a single who is going to retire in a few months this is definitely on my radar! I'm from Michigan so didn't even notice your accent! LOL
I'm hoping someone can answer my question. I'm looking at buying a camper and noticed in other videos the Lantern 17R & 17B under the mattresses is particle board. Particle board is known to release high levels of formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. In 2015 a few companies started making a formaldehyde free particle board. Does anyone know which particle board is used in the Dutchmen/Coleman campers? I have had some medical issues and would be spending close to a year in the camper while building a home.
You should have looked at a wolf pup a lot more camper for not much more money. Zinus has a 6 inch memory foam mattress I love mine and it was only $220.00
Hi there Just bought this camper last week and it was a great little weekender for us with two dogs . Question to anyone …. The fridge is running still and we are done using . Anyone know how to turn it off ? Sorry we are new to this I turned down the cooler portion but it’s still running
Nice, thanks. So no screens on the windows that open? The toilet, how does that work? Does it draw fresh water to flush it all into a black tank to be emptied later?
Correct on the toilet. It's a pedal flush you push with your foot. You can 2 of the 3 windows but cannot open the screens. I wouldn't want to though with all the mosquitos we have in the summer!
Hey! I was wondering if you know how the electrical is set up inside the 17R. Do you have any insight regarding hooking up an outboard generator to charge the battery?
@@MNcamperfamHello what state are you in? Ours was around 20k with that warranty that we had to buy. California. $15,999 + $2000 warranty plus tax and license.
Is it a gas fireplace. Do you have to be plugged into shore power to use it. I hear the fridge it battery power only. How lone does the battery last it not plugged into shore power.
Doesn't come with a spare tire or rim. Air conditioner is 5,000 BTU it's installed up high and the vents only aim to ceiling didn't keep trailer cool at all, no sink in bathroom, cousins on booth and bed very uncomfortable felt like I was sleeping on cement, I'm tearing out the booth it's too big and uncomfortable and putting a love seat in, this will open more floor space, gas stove on HIGH is extremely low flame, flame so low forever to boil water, I felt pans on stove would melt switchs on top, fridge works electric and house battery only not on gas, I turned on all lights and used the fridge only and battery lasted almost 4 days keeping fridge cold that's not bad, the freezer so small onle one ice tray can fit, not worth mentioning, things I would have liked, the trailer to be all electric and battery operated stove, water heater and heater and do away with gas. Get rid of booths most people don't like them, take bed out and put couch with fold out bed would make more floor space, only one step outside needs two, the last step to ground is like 12 inches no matter age to easy to hurt your foot and leg, has built in enetena for TV one of the best, works great and no it's not a wifi booster people keep thinking it is but it's not, it's just for TV, they could have given us USB ports in all the outlets for a few dollars more

Very good review. Thanks for sharing. It's been hard to find any videos not done by CW on the 17R.
I love your Minnesota accent...!
Best real overview. Thanks for sharing!!
I was looking at getting this camper but at 6'3", I'm afraid I wouldn't be comfortable on that bed. Thanks for the review.

No oven either.
Easy to get a small microwave though and for me when camping that is more than enough along with the stove. @@onemangangomg241

Wish it has a hood and open-able sink window. It doesn't make sense for such a small space.

Sorry nothing is marked on the board under the mattress so I don't knowq
I'm from Minnesota as well.
Great video. Thank you. I subbed. Good Luck with your channel.
Hilarious about the accent disclaimer. 🤣😂
It was the first I noticed. 😆
Look like if the ac blew out you could get one replaced easy. Roof top ac goes out it's a huge pain to fix and cost alot.
Is this an Amazon commercial or coleman lantern review? Thanks for the video. It comes in handy to see one used, instead of the camping world vids.
Yes, we use Amazon often. With a disabled toddler, you can't beat the convenience instead of rummaging around at multiple stores.
Great Review!

Can the microwave be taken out and a bigger mini fridge with freezer in it
Is the hot water heater electric? Also is that a plug in where the trash goes?

I like this but I know my wife will want a bathroom sink for her nightly bedtime routine.. 😖 What are you doing for spare tire?
you need to buy a spare tire and bracket to put on the rear bumper...
Like your trailer how much was out the door? Thanks
Around 16,000 dollars from camping world. We opted for a warranty so ended up paying more.

Sorry I don't know anything about that!
How is the off gassing? The chemical smell? I keep hearing the formaldehyde is from the wood because it’s part of the processing
To me it smells like a new car. Not bad.
Where are the light switches? I haven’t seen my friend’s 17R, but she can’t find a way to turn on lights.
Push on the actual lights on the ceiling. Each one has a button in the middle
Hello,
Can you tell me is the shower stall bigger not just in height but all dimensions vs the 17 B model shower. Thank you
After looking at both the floor plans, they appear to be the same size.
I really like your camper. How much did cost out of th door?

it's barebones but msrp is fifteen grand so
Any problems with breakers tripping when you use multiple appliances?
We've used our coffee maker with the AC running and didn't have an issue!
Hello I just bought 2024, 17 R how do you turn the fireplace on dose it need battery for the remote control.
There is a touch panel on the actual fire place or use the remote
Forget about the camper i'm going shopping.
Is it a gas fireplace.

The fireplace is electric. I don't think your fridge comment is accurate. Our fridge had only worked when we've been plugged in.
@@MNcamperfam good to know. So the heater and the fridge is A/C (shore power) only. Definitely not going to work for the type of camping I do.
I would have liked it better if you would have kept the same view. Flipping it made it hard to see.
Nice! is this the 2023?
Yes!
Is that car of yours a V6? What's the towing capacity of it if you don't mind me asking
Yes V6 and 6,200
I actually love your camper ,too late. Now bought the wrong one
They say this camper is solar ready. I know this is a line of crap but, what are the solar options with is camper.
Don't know this one sorry!
No furnace?
The fireplace is the heater. It's electric and kicks out heat very well
No spare tire?
Nope, you have to purchase your own
0:57 does it come with free beer?
I wish!!
Spare tire & jack location?
This model does not come with a spare tire. We need to purchase one. There are 2 manual rear stabilizer jacks.
