In the past when I was less experienced, I would watch videos like this on how to create a more elite release and so that's what I thought I needed to do, but as I got more experience, I realized that the release is more of a function of creating better timing and being able to get the body into position in order to be able to create a better release, and as you create better more consistent timing you will have the ability to create different kinds of ball roll and be more versatile with the release. So timing first in my opinion.
I agree. timing = position at a certain time, position at a certain time = release. Often people try to force a position at the wrong time but that's an uphill battle. Fix the timing, the position comes easier.
I appreciate the content, training, and tips. I'm especially grateful to Andrew-I trained with him a few months ago, and his advice and direction have significantly improved my game. Thanks, Andrew. I'm looking forward to the next video!
Ok so I have watched many videos on the release, and how to properly release the ball. By far Andrew this is one of the best on the topic slowing it down and showing the hand position all the way through the routine is spot on to what was needed to truly demonstrate a solid practice routine. I must have watched this video at least 30 times the day it was released, my wife took my phone at dinner lol. The only thing is camera angles were a little off to high or too low but you were spot on the subject, simple not over the top, easy practice routines, and to the point! Keep up the great work and can't wait to see more from you.
I agree. I've known for awhile what I need to do to improve my release , but I've never seen it broken down in a such a simple and clear way. With my work schedule its hard to find extra time outside of league bowling to work on technique, and its hard to work on technique in league without tanking your scores. The drills you can do at home might be game changer for me.
Great video Andrew! Would love to see VISUALS of lane transition. We talk about the oil but we really cant see much of it past the arrows. For example, what is happening to the lane the first game, maybe showing a visual of what is happening. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th game etc. And then as the lane breaks down, what does that mean to me as a intermediate bowler. Should I move? Should I stay and switch balls? Do I move and switch balls? How do i stay ahead of the transition? What does a lane that has had urethane thrown on it look like? What does that mean if I am not throwing urethane? What does that mean for the next 2-3 games i am bowling on this pair? Your a natural at this keep it up! You and Kris should come back and visit Kyle and I in Oregon this winter!
Andrew - you have given us some great informative videos so far. Suggestion for a future video, something along the lines of a tournament/league VLOG or a "day in the life" video so we can get to know the man behind the foul line.
Your videos are great brotha! I must say of all things the liquid bandage under the tape hack is 👌🏼! Haha it’s the little things like knowing your tape isn’t gonna move that make a difference in replicating shots!! Keep it up bud!
Hey camera man, when he is showing and talking about his hand position could you pan down please? haha. Awesome vid. Super informative. You are an awesome teacher. I love the way you explain things.
Same thoughts here. Maybe my eyes aren’t as sharp as they used to be, because I couldn’t see the difference in roll between his two shots, even with the tape. I’m wondering if I were able to see his hand position if it would make a difference?
@@andrewjohnson6921 Both of you are absolutely right, and there's nothing wrong with your eyes. I had the same thought. Anyway, couldn't believe the one long delay where he's talking about hand position, and the camera is showing nothing of that.
ive been working on my release to for a while / i heard of the ball drills b4 but never heard of the type on the ball to help see how it rolls ill have to try that next time i head to the lanes . thanks.
How do you decide when you want more forward roll vs side roll? Is it a length of pattern thing or just when you are playing certain parts of the lane?
One question I always have in watching pro releases like yours, is that at some point in the release and follow through, your hand seems to go left. I assume this dips to get the axis rotation without a lot of axis tilt? How does that part work. I tend to just pull it over my left toe and miss left.
Can you do a video with all of your interchangeable thumbs, and show how to properly decide which one fits best. Then explain bowling tape techniques to help if you thumb falls out too quickly, or gets hung up and causes a loft? Been having a hard time with this, and there isn't many in-depth videos explaining the thumb specifically.
hey there andrew, spoke with you about youtube channels during the demo day at junior gold today! really high quality video man, are there plans to do tournament vlogs when the pba tour season starts up again?
One thing I liked about this video is that it shows that Andrew's release doesn't have a bent elbow. He simply comes from behind the ball. Sean Rash has a similar release.
Hook your hands in front of your chest so that they are pulling against each other . They should be hooked so that they are only touching at the pads of your finger tips. Now pull your throwing hand against the resistance of your opposite hand and cup your wrist like you would a ball. In this fashion work on both strength and flexibility.
I feel like alot of these release videos actually confuse people even more. Using a toy ball or football actually teaches you to hit up on the ball with your fingers to create revs. In the modern bowling release it's more about coiling and uncoiling and rolling the ball down the lane. I feel like I would have learned that alot faster without alot of these drill videos. With that being said your foul line drill was a good example that I haven't seen before by not having a swing
All true except that most people bend their elbow when they're trying to practice their release and they also bend their elbow when they're bowling. Bad habit.
@@ripvanrevs Nope. The bowlers who invented 700RPM+ are one-handed bowlers who use their thumbs and do not bend their elbows. Watch video of bowlers like Robert Smith or Rudy Kasimakis. Bending your elbow is how you create an inconsistent release, unless you are Earl Anthony.
this camera guy is useless, doesnt film you using the training board for ages and then doesnt show your release when youre doing the up the back shot and the round the side shot at the end on the lanes

Yeah everybody thinks it's the release but without timing and foundation you will flounder.
Gotta say, you have been killing it with your recent videos. Well done, keep'em coming

Thanks, Andrew. This video has one of the best explanations and demonstrations of this subject, which can require a very subtle understanding.
You literally changed my entire swing . I will forever be grateful to you and this video man

This is probably the best "release" video I have seen from one of my favorite bowlers. This is something I am always working on. Thank you.

fantastic video, thank you! any tips on an effortless downswing? i have a tendency to pull down in my downswing.
I think you are pulling down because your timing is off. Your feet are ahead of your swing so you pull down to catch up.
@@TerryPullen thank you, i'll take a look at that!

Man I needed this video yesterday I just finish practicing
Thanks for the tips. I am going to try them.. THX
Thank you bro for this video, I'm gonna get it one day and be proud!
usually pros keep their release videos behind a paywall. thanks man.
Where can I find one of those boards you're rolling the ball on
Also wondering

Whats the blue tape or whatever around your wrist? I got wrist pain. Tfcc
Andrew, ¿Can you plase share the name of the tool (mini table) where you spin the bowling ball?
Thanks!

I bowl one hand no thumb and my elbow is always bent. That's how you keep your hand more under the ball to create more revolutions.
