My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

It always warms my heart everytime I see you with little B. You're a loving father and always take the opportunity to patiently teach your little girl everything she needs to know. You consistently engage her in play, creative activities and introduce her to the joys of camping and travel, creating memories she will always look back on with immense happiness, remembering fondly her beautiful father and his unwavering capacity for kindness. Matthew, you truly are a very special human being!🥰
You SHOULD be proud of yourself. You are making the best life for yourself and for your daughter. A bike ride in the park together while dinner cools off - who else has the time or energy or proximity to a park to do that with their kid? Bravo, Matthew!!

Matthew logic is one step removed from toddler logic, and I love that. Pitching the uncooked pasta box into the fridge...LOL. Watching Brooklyn choose her colours was great. AND she was correct that 5 cookies worked. You have built a wonderful home for yourself and Brooklyn, and you have built an amazing community of Nomads. you should be very proud of yourself. Hey Matthew, you can eliminate the seasoning extra step. Cool the macaroni, drain thoroughly, then put in the Mayo and seasoning and just mix in the macaroni. Save the extra bowl cleaning mess.

To ripen fruit/avocado, place it in a paper bag & put it in a warm (not hot) place. Usually, it will be ripe by the next day

I feel your pain, watching hubby recover from 2nd hip surgery in 6 months. He forgot what the first few days were like. You could buy your cousin a dehydrator for Christmas 😂😂. Make your own mango slices and fruit roll ups.
I had a hip replacement in January, I can't imagine going through another one that close to the first!! I hope he heals quickly!
Well by the time his bad hip was healed, his good hip was the bad one with a cyst ready to burst on top of it.

Matthew - my dad had a huge back fusion back in the day. Not to worry you but there were certain things he never really got back to (like a good golf swing). That said, he was pain free afterwards once he recovered. It’s probably going to need a mix of realistic expectations and the belief you can be pain free. Good luck!
