It has slapstick comedic elements very much like Trains, Planes, and Automobiles, and it was written and produced by, you guessed it, John Hughes! Definitely another good one to watch.

I was 8 when the 80's began and 18 at the end of the decade. To say I grew up with most of the films you're watching is an understatement. No internet, no cellphones, we had no computer at home the entire time, I lived breathed, eat and slept these films. I vividly remember Rocky IV and Top Gun in the cinema just as I was old enough to go on my own, and then into the 90's I would build my VHS collections of all the films I saw and missed.
The number one lesson to learn from having seen Uncle Buck (you've already learned that John Candy is a LEGEND), is that John Hughes kind of knew what he was doing when it came to making movies. (I'm being sarcastic of course). The fact that he wrote, directed, produced a film that hits so many of the right notes, and then look at the casting, and then how the film has stood up so many years later.... and I've limited this comment to just the films in the 80's, there are many more in the 90's and 2000's as well.
So, take a look at the other John Hughes films and there are many more gems to be found. A 'few' that are some of my personal favourites and would be in my all time top 100, many in the top 20:
In no particular order: The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, She's Having A Baby, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Some Kind Of Wonderful. For several of these, be sure to have the tissues at the ready. The scripts, drama, writing, and film making, just brilliantly done.
Of particular note The Breakfast Club, referenced heavily in Pitch Perfect and no doubt many other films, this is one of my all time favourites; and Some Kind Of Wonderful (another film very dear to my heart), whoever was responsible for selecting the music for the soundtrack, one of the best soundtracks of all time. They assembled some really seriously good tracks, often from obscure and unknown artists, many of which nobody will have heard of, which are now iconic because of the film.
The casting, well it's difficult to know where to begin. Molly Ringwald (several films), Andrew McCarthy, Kevin Bacon, Matthew Broderick, Mary Stuart Masterson, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez.....
Great to see how much enjoyment you get from discovering these films. I could easily give you a list of 100 films everyone should see before they die, a bucket list if you will, of all kinds of genres, and eras. It's a Wonderful Life is definitely the oldest in the list and it took me a long time to realise I should see it. It kept coming up on these top 100 lists and I looked at the year it was made and was (very wrongly) dismissive of it. What a huuuge mistake that was. So invested was i in the characters that I was a complete mess by the end. Definitely one for the bucket list if you haven't already experienced it. Schindler's List was another film that I knew it was important that I saw and it was a good few years after it was released that I made the time to get a copy and ensure I wouldn't be interrupted. I'd heard of friends reactions when they saw it, and I sobbed for minutes as the credits rolled. I've only ever watched it the once, and it is high on my all time best list. It's one of those films that you just have to watch to understand why it is so important as a film.
Keep enjoying what you do and good luck on the channel growing and growing. All the very best.

"Only the Lonely" (1991) is probably John Candy's best movie. It allowed him to stretch his range and do dramatic acting in a few scenes. Better yet, he had to do drama with the legendary Maureen O'Hara, who could dominate a lesser actor. John Candy held his own and their dramatic scenes are amazing. It gives you an even deeper look than "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" at the kind of dramatic actor he likely would've eventually become. I highly recommend this one; comedy, drama, and a love story, even if it does leave you with the bittersweetness of what might've been.

"Stripes" from 1981 with Bill Murray, Harald Ramis (remember ghostbusters), and John Candy. A very funny film that I think you'll really enjoy.

Oh and sticking to the war comedy film John Candy steals the show in a few important scenes in the film "1941" or as I call it "Animal House goes to War'

A great movie and role, although worth noting that on his part it's pretty much a non-comedic role, even though the movie overall is probably rated as a comedy.

Probably the BEST, most honest John Candy movie is “Only The Lonely”, with Maureen O’Hara playing his well-meaning Mother. It’s always interesting to see two great Actors from different Generations acting together, for the first time; in order to truly appreciate Maureen O’Hara in her beautiful prime, you NEED to see her in “The Quiet Man”, opposite John Wayne; that will end up being, probably, one of the VERY BEST MOVIES that you will ever see, Darling Ashleigh. (“Hi” to Beans...really big fan of your work❗️) 💜🍸
