  • This is the kickoff video for the Lionquest Exercise Channel. This a simple way you can enhance the self-resistance exercises found in the Charles Atlas course. Recommend sets and repetitions are 10 reps of light tension, 8 of moderate tension and 6 of heavy tension with isometric stops. You can do these two to three times a week.
    The Give-away: When we hit the hundred subscriber mark for this channel, I'll take the names of all of the entrants and draw a winner for a set of Countdown Cards with Gary Bowe's course on the cards and how to set up workouts with them. The rules are simple, subscribe, like and comment on the video. The key word is "Charles Atlas."
    You can find out more about Charles Atlas and the Charles Atlas course which is still being sold today at www.charlesatlas.com

    Ingenious. I've been doing Harry Wong's Dynamic Strength for awhile (highly recommended) and he uses basic curls for both biceps and triceps. You're versions of those arm exercises will add more tension to them!

    Posted this on a van dwell's channel. They were doing a live chat about exercise and I remembered my Dad showing me resistence exercise back in the 50s. He was a boxer and wrestler and was as fit as you are. It wasn't until my later years I ran onto Charles Atlas, and realized where Dad got his exercise ideas.

  • @lazur1
    @lazur1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Dynamic tension enables otherwise unheard-of ranges of motion. Example: the ultra-full range biceps curl + triceps extension. The biceps have three functions: Supinating the hand/wrist, bending the elbow, and assisting the front deltoid to raise the arm in supination. No device can properly work all three in one movement. Because the triceps are the resistance, the negative biceps rep is the positive for the trceps.

But, U tend to always go back to the tension/isometric exercise just because it works better for my age (58), as far as keeping my joints healthy.

    Here's one more exercise that will really reveal weaknesses in the shoulders. As with the biceps exercise, place your right hand over the left hand then raise your left hand while resisting with your right hand. Raise your left hand way up and over your head. It's amazing how the shoulder strength diminishes the higher up your hand goes. Then, of course, reverse hand positions to exercise the other shoulder.

    Dear Greg, I'm a 78 year old Australian, who until the Corona Virus, worked out 6 days per week at the gym. I (unfairly and selfishly)went into meltdown when the gyms were closed. By a stroke of luck I was listening to a tape by Norman Vincent Peale, who spoke of Charles Atlas - I googled him and bingo. I have of this morning, with absolute enthusiasm, begun doing the exercises. I shall update my progress in a couple of weeks. Interestingly, speaking of medication, I underwent an emergency appendectomy last May, before which I was asked numerous times what medication I take. "Nothing," I replied. The first enquirer, then said, "Perhaps you don't understand the question!" This was despite the fact English is my first language. I again repeated my answer, after which she silently observed me as one would a freak!!! Linette Reynolds

    I found performing dynamic tension exercises compliment overcoming & yielding isometrics. Doing overcoming isometrics 1st in the stretched position, then negative reps afterwards at a 3-7 second tempo finished off with dynamic tension exercise works best. Negative reps are done in ascending ladder rep scheme (EG: 1, 2, 3; 1, 2; 1) for no more then 3 reps maximum per set & a total of not more than 10 reps done in this fashion. Dynamic tension is done last to polish it off. You'll feel fantastic afterwards! Oh yes......this routine shouldn't be done more then 2x per week. Your CNS will burn out over any muscle soreness.

      But as I said before your fist in palm replacing the hand holding wrist method takes the Charles Atlas course to a whole new level.
