  • In this video, Ionization potential of mercury (ionisation potential of mercury)is discussed with experimental apparatus. How to find out the ionization potential of mercury. The electrons from the heated surface of cathode emits and reach upto the plate which is at higher potential, so all the electrons are attracted by the plate....but due to space charge all the emitted electrons can not reach upto the plate...now we increase the potential of the plate as a result electron get accelerated and ionize the mercury vapor. The mercury ion move towards the cathode and neutral the space charge....also the electrons release from ionization of mercury reach upto the plate in addition to the electrons emitted from cathode and as a result current increase suddenly. this is the point of ionization potential. One can find out it by plotting the graph in between the plate current and applied voltage.

    I’m from the United States and they no longer teach the use of vacuum tubes as the vapor mercury diode is only something in history books. I very much would like to construct a power supply using a vapor mercury diode vacuum tube. I’m teaching myself how to build vacuum tube stereo amplifiers. I have an unusual application low-voltage 24 V DC 5A for an amplifier project I just finished building. I would like to construct something nobody else has made or has access to lost art of building vapor mercury rectifier power supply high current. Do you have a schematic or plans for building such a device. This should surely get me an a in class on our chapter of building power supplies I’m 100% guaranteed no other student in the United States would build such a device.

    Is ionization of mercury easy, mercury is in gaseous form. Is that possible to ionize mercury " when mercury is in gaseous form and Here high voltage electric field work around their."🧐
